Congress: Libya under consideration

Per the New York Times, “The House will vote Friday on two measures that are strongly critical of President Obama’s decision to maintain an American role in NATO operations in Libya, reflecting increasing disenchantment among elements of both parties about the United States’ involvement in the conflict. The decision to put the resolutions to a vote came after Republican leaders earlier this week postponed consideration of one of them, which would direct the president to end American’s military involvement in the operations. It was sponsored by Representative Dennis J. Kucinich, the Ohio Democrat who is one of the most liberal members of the House.”

I don't like that we're spending money we don't have on Libya either but we're their in support of our NATO allies. NATO is about the only workable mutual defense treaty we have left and to abandon our allies and break our commitments under the treaty and the UN resolution that brought NATO there would show that we cannot be depended on.

Goucho,

The USA IS NATO! We should not have gotten involved PERIOD!!! Germany did not get involved and no one is saying THEY abandoned us or any other Ally. They were just smart enough to make the right decision. The war machine loves people with sheep mentality, it's what keeps the machine oiled & rolling. USA needs make it's OWN decisions NOT let NATO make decisions for us!

HAHA Congress, what makes you think Obama will want to hear what you have to say about Libya now? He did not listen to you or the constitution when he got us involved in the first place!

Congress can and should cut all funding for the Libyan operation. There are only about 4 NATO countries participating and you can bet that the U.S. is paying the majority of the bill. The President violated the law by not getting congressional approval, and please don't give me this 60 days without congressional approval BS, because the United States was not under immediate attack. Obama admitted, during his campaign, that the President did not have the authority to commit military personnel without congressional approval, unless the U.S. was under immediate attack. I know most presidents and a lot of so called constitutional scholars believe the War Powers Law is constitutional but until they file a law suit to void the law it is still the law and must be complied with.
