Here is something I am curious about: let's see if I can express it in a question that you can answer. Normally, the economy would play a HUGE role in the 2012 elections. But, in some of the battleground states, Florida, Ohio, add to that Wisconsin and Michigan, there appears to be voters' remorse with the agenda of the far right Governors and their perceived attacks on the middle and working classes. How do you factor that in, or is it important?
Good luck sussing out the question, Mark and Domenico! That's as good as I can make it!
While I like newdayDAWNING's question, I also have one. BTW newday is a gal, not a guy.
The Republicans are trying to tie the debt to changing Medicare. Do you think the Democrats will draw a line in the sand and say Medicare is off-limits? If Republicans don't get their way to destroy Medicare, will they really vote "no" on the debt ceiling. Doing so would cause great issues and that too would be the fault of the Republicans.
NDD, to answer your question you have to accept the premise and I don't.
There has been a lot of noise about governors falling in polls. I would expect that given the hard decisions they made. Rick Snyder in Michigan passed a budget last week that had a couple of very hard choices, but overall was applauded by the masses. One for actually getting it done, something Jennifer Granholm could never do, and two for having a plan. I believe, when the masses start to see the positive results of balanced budgets and help to small businesses that will start hiring again, remember the government creates a climate for hiring, but does not hire, the "resentment" as your friend called it, will pass and acceptance will set in. The enacted cuts in the Michigan budget will barely be noticed by the majority of the people. It's just that the minority is awfully loud right now.
Within the context of the mid east and north africa why has the focus turned from US (Obamas) policies to one referring to NATO? Is Obama no longer willing to answer directly for his decisions?
american, that is too easy of a question to answer. The Libya action happens to be a NATO action, NOT a US one. The US is a part of NATO and so is under treaty regarding aid and assistance with regards to NATO exercises. Thus it is NOT a matter of US policy in that matter, but of NATO policy. As far as places like Syria, it has been abundantly clear for anyone actually following REAL news that the US has placed economic sanctions on the ruling class there and has been applying diplomatic leverage on the other nations in the area concerning democracy and the rights of the peoples.
I see you question as a lame attempt to take the focus off from OUR problems here in the US, to whit, the irresponsible ways that the Repubs/TPers are blackmailing our nation with regard to the debt limit in exchange for over-massive cuts in spending while at the same time refusing to remove the subsidies given to corporations that do not need them, removing tax deductions or towards raising responsibly raising taxes on those who can certainly afford to pay while at the same time trying to destroy the safety nets that so many Americans are now dependent on since those with the money are NOT hiring OR paying their fair share of taxes here in the US. You are trying to purely deflect the people's awareness of what dreadful damage the "Ryan Plan' actually does.
B honest - Don't buy your excuses. Iraq and afganistan have persistently been referred to as bushes wars, even though NATO forces were also involved. As for Libya you seem to forget that during the first week it was obama (re US), england and france initially involved in in releasing 100 + tomahawks towards targets in libya to enforce the no fly zone to protect libyan citizens for "humanitarian" reasons.
Within the last week it is now karsai telling NATO to cease attacks on houses, not him telling the US. It appears that the media has ignored the US role (re: obama) in this geographical area. It was also Obama who ducked and covered the US involvment in Libya within the first two weeks of NATO attacks.
If you were really honest with yourself you would know that that we live in a trully global economy and that the US actions abroad are just as important to our economy and recovery as domestic issues.
It appears that your argument is that our POTUS is not capable of providing the leadership to address both our foriegn and domestic policies.
Your argument of what you want to portray the right as destructive, ignores the real issue that the left has also played a role in making our current budgetary outlays unsustainable. I have no problem in raising FICA taxes accross the board to address future shortfalls.
You on the other hand believe that many don't pay their fair share. You as well as other FR liberals have yet to say what "fair" means. If you want to think about something why not review the following data supplied by the IRS on what income levels contribute the most to the US treasury. A study of where rvarious revenues make up our total revenue stream.
There are other sites as well that use government supplied numbers. I believe that wkipedia even has pie charts on the matter.
Obama wants to create an atmopshere where the future "innovators" can innovate new products and services. Haven't heard that obama also wants to deny them of all of the rewards that can come of those innovations. It seems that you would be happy if all they got was a "certificate of merit" from the government for their efforts.
FYI - The FR editors asked for questions, not you. If you desire to to ask a question then ask it of the editors.
I'm interested in newdayDAWNING10's question, I'd say collapse RVZ555's BS question, although I would like to know who's been watching Trig while Sarah's been on her cross country vacation.
I didn't vote for Rick Scott, I voted for Alex Sink. Is it possible for Florida to split into two different states like Texas could split into different states (not succeed like Perry says)?
Us in the Democratic South Florida are embarrassed with Rick Scott and his kill jobs for teachers, fire fighters and police officers agenda.
My question would be this: With the growing realization of the public that the GOP/TP does NOT have a real plan to reduce the deficit in a responsible manner, is actively trying to destroy Medicare/Medicaid and have their eyes set on destroying Social Security; with their blackmailing the Administration over extending the Debt Limit by demanding severely damaging cuts while refusing to raise taxes on the wealthy and corporations (who are profiting very handsomely presently and still not hiring), with their record of blocking a record number of Bills in the Senate that would have greatly eased the recession and now trying to dismantle everything that actually Has helped as well as pushing for severe deregulation of any and all industries by cutting funding for the regulatory agencies, along with the various Repub Governors who are taking axes to their own State's laws and regulations, giving huge tax breaks to corporations and then blaming the shortfall on State Employees and their Unions, and America PLAINLY Seeing ALL of this for what it is: What are the chances of a complete turnover of ALL Repup/TP seats in the House and Senate that are up for re-election in this next election cycle?
There has been an interesting show on the History channel - "How the states got their shapes" Started watching it the other day before I switched on the NBA finals, was pretty interesting.
Obviously you all would need to pry yourself away from either MSNBC or Fox.
"We are so familiar with the map of United States, but do we know why our states look the way they do? Every shape on the map tells a great story about our past. Why is California bent? To cling on to gold. Why does Oklahoma have a panhandle? Because of shifting borders for slavery. Why does Missouri have a boot? Because of a massive earthquake. This special examines how every state is a puzzle piece ultimately revealing the unique geography, political and social history of America."
It seems RVZ Feisty as an excuse to prove how much of a racist bigot he is. He cant help himself since he resides in a sewer, and wont even take the time to remove some of the caca from his mouth before speaking.
"Manufacturing, one of the U.S. economy's bright spots, is losing momentum.
Private employers added just 38,000 jobs in May, down from 177,000 in April, according to payroll processor ADP. It's the weakest result since September. The report may offer a preview of Friday's more comprehensive job report from the Labor Department, which includes hiring by both private employers and the government."
"Private-sector payroll growth slowed sharply in May, coming in far below expectations and falling to the lowest level in eight months, a report by a payrolls processor showed on Wednesday. "
So, in light of this, where is all the hope and change? My leg is stiil not tingling.
Hey guys. With this renewed interest in Christie, I wonder what role you think his weight will play in a general election and effectiveness as a potential president?
Below is what I know about the recall in WI. Do you have any better information or projections?
Wisconsin Recall Petition Update
As of yesterday all petitions to recall 6 Republican State Senators have been verified and will be on the July 12th special election ballot. However, with the verification deadline two days away, none of the petitions to recall the 3 Democrat State Senators have been verified.
The Wisconsin Government Accountability Board (GAB) will be going to court today or tomorrow to ask for a one week extension of the deadline claiming they don’t have sufficient time to complete the verification by Friday’s deadline due to the sheer number of petitions. If the delay is granted the special election date will have to be delayed by at least one week.
The GAB has also voiced concern about the remaining petitions that they have just started to verify because of the how they were filled out and that they have already found fraudulent signatures.
I don't live in WI, Ohio or Florida... if you can, answer a question.
When all the chaos was going on in WI, what is it that public union workers need protection from... is it the government? If not, what then? They have a job for life, most will agree that many are hard working but when there is no pressure to perform - as compared to the private sector, you end up with a % that are in it for a free ride.
I could but I won’t because that debate has been discussed in length on this board. What I will say is that it is clear the Wisconsin voters are clearly upset with what happened so much so that they filed recall petitions on 6 of the 8 Republicans that were eligible and on only three of the 8 Democrats that were eligible.
Right, the issue has been debated and I've asked that question a number of times (because I really want to know) but I have yet to get an answer. It's just a simple question...
At this point it is pretty obvious that the State, County and City workers are needing protection from the Republican Governors and Legislators who are removing rights, lowering wages and firing Government workers at all levels through defunding.
Since we will travel daily, over the next 18 months, to rightwing fantasyland and watch the parading quest for THE ONE to lead them out of their self imposed wilderness we now call the killing field for Medicare, I'd like to hear your thoughts on the following secondary fantasy in case the TP does not like who the GOP ultimately chooses:
Will there be a third paty candidate in the 2012 general and will it come from the right or left. Also will it be spoiler or real.
My top pick IF there is such a development: Independent for President...A late entrance by Palin/Perry 2012
I don't live in WI, Ohio or Florida... if you can, answer a question.

They need protection from anti-labor Republican governors/legislators! They DON'T have a job for life and there IS pressure to perform! Clues for $1,000 Alex!!
Yogi Berra famously said, "it gets late awful early around here". But with the 2012 Presidential election, it may be that it stays early, awful late, leading to my question:
Besides Palin and Christie , are there other possible entrants to the GOP race no one is focusing on, who may have a chance? If so, who?
America"s Mayor Rudolph Giuliana is testing the waters. He seemed to do real well in one of the latest polling results. I want to be President. 911. I will cut spending 911.
This field is so lackluster, it's no wonder the GOP leadership is looking for a candidate to inspire their base.
Groucho, the field will always be lackluster to the regular posters here. I said it yesterday and I will say it again, no matter who FR puts in the headline, the vile, nasty comments flow from the usual posters. Whether it is about their appearance, thier children or their policies. So why bother bringing them up here? You along with the regulars will always think the field is lackluster at best, incompetent and evil at worst.
I've posted a few of things I agree with regarding President Obama, is there really absolutely nothing about any of these potential candidates that is worthwhile? Are you all that jaded?
".no matter who FR puts in the headline, the vile, nasty comments flow from the usual posters. Whether it is about their appearance, thier children or their policies.'
Especially, if they are one of those 'telepromter-reading, socialist, foreign-born, terrorist-pallin-around-with, Kenyan commies', huh, White Collar Auto?? Yes- we see what you mean.
Newday for sure, w/ an assist from BHonest. Not only do the Repubs not have a real plan, a reasonable plan; but they are clearly using the whole financial woes issue (debt ceiling, deficit, debt, jobs, etc) as a distraction from their efforts to complete an agenda that has lasted over the ages - kill Medicare, kill Medicaid, kill Social Security, kill unions.
And on top of that the Repubs themselves caused the massive debt problem in the last Admin, and have been very adamant about NOT getting to the real root causes: Lowered taxation and unfunded programs that were never budgeted as well as real job creation.
Is Iowa a must win for Tim Pawlenty or can he survive a close loss there and move on? It would seem that a win there would generate the contributions he needs to be competitive. If he loses, seems he might just drop out.
country/no party.i would ask.if the rich white man in D.C. [ I AM WHITE ] takes my medical away.were is my money that i been paying ever week from my pay-check.could i sue .to get it back.or is it lose to the oil companys.the banks, wall street. etc to all that got a bail out and bonus.thks 2012
My Question is . Will you be Calling for a Weiner Probe.. I mean after all if this had been a Republican Congressman you would be calling for him to Resign already. If it had been a Republican and he had Come out and Said No thats not me.. (which Weiner hasnt) Asked for law Enforcement to Investigate (which Weiner Hasnt) .. you would still be calling for the Republican to Resign. but low and behold Silence from you far Left liberal journalist.. How About it lets Hear if for a Weiner Probe.................. What do you say..
Thanks for considering our questions, Mark & Domenico. Do you hear any kind of "off the records" remarks from Republican sources about their primary system and the fact that it skews to the right wing of the party, pushing candidates further right than they would probably prefer to go? Probably too late for 2012 but are they considering reforms for 2016?
The less conservative candidates (Romney/Huntsman) will not win in the republican primaries, The more conservative (Palin/Bachman) ones will have a difficult time in the general. How do republicans overcome this dilemma?
Why does the gullible News outlets(ABC,CBS, NBC, etc.) continue to give SLP free publicity? At this moment in time she is being very "Mavericky" and not telling the majors what or where, but she is talking to FOX! She's not going to run. She is taking all the wind out of the other candidates sails. and she knows it.
My question is pretty simple. Is this the new economic reality? Although officially out of the recession for more than 1 1/2 years why are the economic indicators like jobs still lagging? At this point, although both sides will blame who is at fault it really doesn't matter if things don't get better.
I was never one to believe that employeers would willingly hold off on hiring to try to discredit a politician ie. (Obama) or his policies. Neither do I strongly believe that another jobs bill will magically turn unemployment around. I guess a job infrastructure bill could be the only thing that could help the economy start humming again. However, could it be that all of our good jobs are gone due to outsourcing, shipping jobs overseas and ever decreasing manufacturing and use of increased automation where it does exist.
It will be a long slow grind, but I believe that the instant gratification crowd will use this next election to vote for anyone but Obama. Whether the opposition has a plan or not people will not vote for democratic incumbents if the economy is still in poor shape come 2012. It doesn't make me happy to say it.
In the 2008 Presidential election, we did not have an incumbent President or Vice President in the running. However, 2012 will feature an incumbent. Generally, this type of election centers around the record of that incumbent. What policies / results / decisions produced by the Obama Administration are likely to be seized upon by the GOP to illustrate that he does NOT deserve a second term?
Voters Do you realize money was found that makes the whole union thing a non-starter? And if so, do you also realize even without that newfound money, the unions had voted to give up the money to help with the (perceived) budget problems in the first place? And do you further realize the union busting was so the wealthy could have even MORE? And do you remember the Governor campaigning on that issue in the first place? " Hmmmmm can I sign that recall petition??"
Could NBC/MSNBC be the first national network to STOP covering anything and everything Palin does? If mics and cameras were not covering her every move, maybe only then would Palin leave us alone. The majority of American simply don't care and are getting quite tired of seeing Palin. Thank you.
Here is something I am curious about: let's see if I can express it in a question that you can answer. Normally, the economy would play a HUGE role in the 2012 elections. Good Question NDD...
All one has to do is look at the poll numbers in states like FL - WI - OH & WI to see there is plenty of buyers remorse going around!
Will voter resentment play a role in the 2012 elections?
Thanks, Feisty! I knew there was a question in there somewhere!
Feisty- the short answer is 'yes'. The long version of the short answer is 'HELL yes'.

I got your weiner probe right here!!!!!!!!
First read hosts,
My question is pretty simple.
Thanks as always guys!
It's all how you ask the question for instance:
Voters Do you think the Gov of WI was correct in taking away bargaining rights for public union employees? Hmmm NO.
Voters Do you want the Gov of Wisconsin to balance your budget by getting rid of bloated union pensions? Hmmm Yes.
Like I said it's all about how you ask the question:
Do you support Public Employee Unions? Yes
Do you want to work until you are 70 so your teachers can retire at 50? No.....
Could NBC/MSNBC be the first national network to STOP covering anything and everything Palin does? If mics and cameras were not covering her every move, maybe only then would Palin leave us alone. The majority of American simply don't care and are getting quite tired of seeing Palin. Thank you.
I have a Boiler Room Question:
Can either of you think of a President that has faced as many or more challenges than President Obama in U.S. history?
Has any other President accomplished as much legislatively as President Obama in such a short time?

Two come to mind very quickly, Lincoln and FDR.
