Obama lauds Bryson's private-sector experience

Calling him a man of integrity and vast experience who will play important part on his economic team, President Obama named John Bryson as his choice to replace outgoing Commerce Secretary Gary Locke.

A Yale Law School graduate who has served as chairman and CEO of utility company Edison International and on numerous corporate boards, Bryson also co-founded and served as attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council, a leading national environmental organization, according to a biography on Edison's website. He must be confirmed by the Senate.

"John is somebody who will bring to this job a wealth of experience in the public and in the private sector," Obama said during the brief State Dining Room remarks. "In this new role, John will be able to draw on decades of business experience across a range of industries from his role on the boards of major companies like Disney and Boeing to his leadership in the clean-energy industry; that's the expertise that will help us create new jobs and make america more competitive in the global economy."

Bryson is just the latest addition to the Obama team from the corporate world, as the administration attempts to strengthen its ties with the business community. Earlier this year, the president named former Commerce Secretary and J.P. Morgan executive Bill Daley as chief of staff and created a new jobs council headed by GE CEO Jeff Immelt. He also delivered a speech before the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

The president made a point today of highlighting Bryson's status as a promoter of clean energy, a field he has consistently argued the government must invest in to keep America competitive and spur the growth of new jobs and businesses.

"John understands this better than virtually anybody," Obama said. "Throughout a distinguished career in which he's led non-profits government agencies and large companies, he's been a fierce proponent of alternative energy."

Among the many posts Bryson has held is senior advisor to KKR -- Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co -- chairman of the board of BrightSource Energy, the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC), and the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC) Board of Overseers, co-chairman of the Pacific Council on International Policy (PCIP) and a trustee of the California Institute of Technology, according to White House release.

Locke has been nominated to serve as ambassador to China.

Although I hope John Bryson is given an up or down vote, republicans--who demanded it during the Bush years--have sytematically blocked or put on hold or filibustered nearly every Obama nominee. If republicans can't find a legitimate reason to filibuster or block John Bryson, they will simply make up something.

Apparently, hacking into someone's Facebook account and posting a lewd photo is a joke to the right just as long as it isn't done to a republican. Somethings just aren't funny because it could happen to anyone, or to anyone's son or daughter--suddenly it isn't so funny after all.

....and created a new jobs council headed by GE CEO Jeff Immelt.

Obama: Hey Jeff...thanks for raising all that campaign cash. We don't currently have a post open for you, but wait! I'll create a new department! Who cares what it costs? It's only taxpayer money.

The president made a point today of highlighting Bryson's status as a promoter of clean energy, a field he has consistently argued the government must invest in to keep America competitive and spur the growth of new jobs and businesses.

Once again, why is this clown insisting that it is the government's job to pay for this research? Will the government be the ones billing the consumer for the energy and making a profit? Of course, why would I expect different from a president that put $2 billion into his budget to pay for a zero-emmissions coal plant (which the technology doesn't even exist for).

Obama just doesn't get the concept of fiscal responsibility.

Results official in Wis. judge race

      May 31, 2011 01:07 PM EDT

JoAnne Kloppenburg will not challenge the results of the Wisconsin Supreme Court race, bringing to close an election that had become a referendum of sorts on Republican Gov. Scott Walker’s controversial law restricting collective bargaining for most of the state’s public employees.

Kloppenburg had until Tuesday to decide whether to file a lawsuit challenging the election’s result, a recount by the state’s Government Accountability Board that had conservative incumbent David Prosser leading by 7,004 votes. The recount was finalized early last week.

“David Prosser has won this election and I congratulate him,” Kloppenburg, an assistant state attorney general, at a press conference late Tuesday morning.

Sales in real estate are now in the double dip recession range. There is no bottom to the bottom.

The following article sums up the main stream media very well. With Obama in office, the media is always shocked by the continued bad news in the job market, the real estate market, and with oil prices. Predictions of 4% growth by the Obama administration are followed by $1.8 real growth. Unemployment "unexpectedly" climbs. Real GDP growth is always "worse than expected".

But now we have a "pro-business" Commerce Secretary. So how's that going to work when he has a boss that is totally confused and baffled as to why businesses just aren't hiring these days?

        1. Franken had won the election before Coleman dragged things out forever. He already had all the votes he needed, and the delay only served Coleman's and the Republican's purposes.

        2. After the Supreme Court decision cancelling the recount, all of the Florida votes were actually counted and Al Gore won. There was no cherry-picking involved.

The crooked GOP in Wis had to hide votes and steal the election from Kloppenburg! That was real easy to do since they had an executive in charge of vote counts in that district with a loooooong history of vote count mismanagement! It won't matter though for too long in Wis. because the GOP is about to be recalled out of office soon enough for screwing over the citizens of Wis with ridiculous and extreme right-wing BS policy. Even life long Republican voters are on board with booting the bastards! So, enjoy your theft of another election bro. Bush stole 2000 so we know you're used to it. It's ironic how the party that's always crying about voter fraud is the one always committing the fraud and stealing elections! I guess when so much of your Greedy Old Party is similar to the Nazi party of Germany, you have to lie, cheat and steal your way into power as Hitler did 80 years ago! BTW, you should change your name to Bitter in Albany! How's that Democratic Blue dust taste, loser?

UAW -- you can remain a dinosaur if you want. The FUTURE of economic growth is in the areas of alternative energy. Germany has announced that it is phasing out nuclear energy, and Japan is questioning whether it wants to remain dependent on nuclear energy -- so what will fill the gap? Fossil fuels? Nope, it will be alternative forms of energy: new plants, new parts, new technology. If you really want private sector leadership, then a representative democracy is the wrong government for you: find an oligarchy.

The act of not taxing someone more while expecting the other 98% to make up the difference, to take reductions in pay and benefits, in services, poor roads, fewer teachers is subsidizing the wealthy. For decades the right has been using the "poor rich" argument to convince voters of something that just isn't true and their supporters believe it. The current high-end rate for the rich is 35% yet they pay a lower actual rate than most middle class citizens. Big oil gets $4 billion in subsidized tax breaks a year while earning $36 billion the first quarter of 2011 and then we taxpayers pay federal and state taxes on their gas--they get us from both sides. Republicans constantly claim that American businesses pay the highest taxes in the world--yet most of the really big businesses pay zero or almost zero. The possible tax rate is not the same as the actual tax rate paid by businesses and people. I'm all for making as much money as one can but if we want a sustainable country with modern infrastructure, great schools, it is only fair that the sacrifice be shared and those who have more can afford to pay more; the wealthiest 2% have not been sharing the sacrifice since Reagan.

            #5.7 - Tue May 31, 2011 4:07 PM EDT

Jody if you do a little research on gas and oil they pay over 40% when you figure income, sales, leases and royalties, one of the highest rates paid of any industry. The tax breaks they get are the same as manufacturing and most other industries. Green energy (GE), farming and others get MORE tax breaks.

If Obama got his tax increases passed it would get around 100 Billion extra tops, assuming sales of all goods stayed the same. They usually go down with tax increases. His deficit spending is 1.6 trillion now so the extra taxes would make his deficit spending 1.5 trillion .... then what?

I looked up revenues as a percentage of gdp (gross domestic product) over the last 60 years and was very surprised to find that it is almost a flat line on a graph. Meaning .... no matter what the tax rates are we have revenues of around 18-19% of gdp. As a percentage of revenues collected we actually got more under Bush (upper 18%) when the tax rates were 35% than in the 50's (17.3%) when the tax rates were in the 90% range. Over the last 30 years i believe the average was 18.3% collected.

No matter what you do with taxes you are going to bring in about 19% of gdp tops on average. I looked this up when i heard someone mention limiting govt spending to 18% of gdp. Which is what we take in on revenues on average for many decades regardless of tax rates.

Spending/investing behaviors change as tax rates go up and down. Bush was spending 20% of gdp is why he had deficits. Obama is spending 25% of gdp is why he has deficits. End of the day if whomever is spending our money in Washington can't stay in the 18-19% of gdp spending range we are screwed. Doesn't matter if taxes are 20% or 45%.

One example.... capital gains under Bush went from 25% to 15%. Did we lose 10% of revenues??? No, the revenue taken in more than doubled in just 3 years. Investor behavior changed. Raise the rates 10% and you will get the inverse reaction.

Modern conservatives have a twisted sense of successful businesses and people. Wall Street deserved the harsh criticism they received by the WH and most people felt the same way--it was Wall Street that caused the housing bubble and ultimately collapsed the economy.

Stop it yourself. You need to read up on what a "split derivative is." It's a cute little product designed to produce maximum profit, which, unfortunately, nearly took down our whole economy.

              #6.3 - Tue May 31, 2011 7:29 PM EDT

The housing "crisis" was caused by people not making thier house payments.

Not really, but anyone who thinks it's that simple, is probably too simple to understand what really happened. But I'll try to explain it in the simplest language possible:

Basically, the housing crisis as it currently stands is the result of unemployment. Unemployment, in turn, was caused by the financial crisis of late 2008 from which we are still recovering which caused businesses to be unable to get funding from their banks. The financial crisis was caused by unregulated derivatives based on an unregulated mortgage market that allowed rogue banks to give away mortgages to people whom they knew weren't qualified but whom then convinced otherwise. Long after those mortgage brokers were gone, when the teaser rates on mortgages they deceptively sold to admittedly naive customers expired, the buyers began to default. The defaults on mortgages triggered the collapse of the derivatives market which caused credit markets to seize and led to the financial situation we currently see. So, banks stopped lending money to anyone, including each other and other businesses, who had to cut back and lay people off - and hence, unemployment skyrocketed. It was the lack of adequate (or any) regulation of derivatives and mortgage markets. It was the lack of regulation, a.k.a. deregulation.

So, as I said, blaming it all on people not making their house payments is extraordinarily simple-minded, and inaccurate. This didn't just fall out of the sky because a bunch of miscreants defaulted on their righteous obligations. That's just self-righteous, simplistic nonsense.

UAW....People like you remind me of the Islamic extremists in Afghanistan who are so stuck in the past that they hinder the future of their own people and country! You moronic righties think this is the year 1770 or something because all of your agenda is based on the old colonies. The GOP is against taxes, voting rights, abortion, immigration, women's rights, trade, new technology, regulation, etc, etc! What are you idiots FOR other than the right to do whatever the Hell you want to do, regardless of the consequences to the public? Righties like you want to eliminate all the regulation the govt used to save your monkey azz from corporate greed and bad business decisions. Who cares if planes fall out of the sky or if food and water have killer bacteria in them, right? Do you realize that without regulation we wouldn't have a population or economy to worry about because we'd all be sick or dead? What you call "big gov't" actually prevents harm thru regulation or promotes good thru constitutional amendments for all of America, such as:

YES, you have to pay taxes to pay for more than just the military!

YES, the Government will help take care of all our citizens in need because like the Marines, "We never leave a man behind!!" That includes disaster relief, Social Security, Medicare, etc.

YES, the wealthy need to pay more in taxes!! With greater reward comes greater responsibility, period! It's not punishment, it's a duty to support the system of capitalism that provides the opportunity!!

I still can't understand how you nuts think taxing the wealthy a fairer rate to pay their share is a bad thing? The GOP created or at least excelerated this disasterous economy we're in. The economy imploded on Bush's watch during his last few months in office! After 8 stupid years of tax cuts for the wealthy, the loss of 8 million jobs and 50,000 factories, two unpaid wars and prescription drug bill, ALL UNDER BUSH, it baffles me how you nuts blame Obama and the Dems for this crap? You're beloved millionaires and billionaires need to pay up!! THE FREE LUNCH FOR THE WEALTHY IS OVER!! If the Dems were giving welfare to people with a good job and benefits, you'd be screaming bloody murder!! So, why is OK to give BILLIONS TO RICH AND PROFITABLE OIL EXECS?? That's the epitome of HYPOCRISY! If more of you GOP, corn-fed, Bible-thumping, gun-polishing fools were educated in a normal school instead of a right-wing leaning, Creationism teaching , don't say the word "gay" school system or at home by "Ma and Pa", then you might catch up to us and the rest of the world to move the country forward in the 21st century!! Catch up already! We're getting tired of dragging you fools forward kicking and screaming!!

Community reinvestment act also played a big part in the housing mess. There was a group that used to go around picketing banks that would not write a certain percentage of loans to low income people. Banks always caved to make the bad press go away.

I was building houses in the last decade and was SHOCKED at some of the people they were qualifying and putting in homes. No documentation loans were rampant. Very little if any money down. I can remember talking with my partner and banker in 2004 about how this was going to be a mess at some point. Banker actually agreed with me is why it made an impression. Underwriters were throwing money out the door at people.

One in particular at an open house guy was telling me foreclosure and bankruptcy 1 1/2 years ago. Walked him through just trying to be nice figuring no way this guy qualifies. My originator got him in and my jaw dropped to the floor.

Come on guys let's stop promoting the idea that re-distributing someone elses wealth via taxes is going to fix this country. That isnt fair to let the poverty lobby to believe that and it isnt fair to the working man. Let's get someone in office who can stir the American spirit of helping one self before burdening others. I'm sure the people of Greece and Portugal wished thier leaders convinced them 20 years ago that living like a grass hopper would someday mean living off what ever hand outs from the rest of the EU decides is fair. We can control our own destiny, the USA is a great country. Let's prove to the world we are worthy of thier admiration.... VOTE FOR CHANGE IN 2012!

Redistribution of wealth from the middle to the rich is what we have going on today. One only needs to look at our history. It is exactly what happened during the gilded age, the age of robber barons and it ultimately led to the Great Depression. Since Reagan began this trickle down process, wages for the middle and low wage earners in this country have declined and stagnated while those who are in control of the businesses paying those middle and low wage earners less are making more and more. Conservatives often argue that 48% of Americans do not pay any federal income tax yet they never bother to ask why that happens. It is because 48% of Americans live at or below the poverty line which is something that makes America anything but "exceptional". I doubt there are many of those 48% would not be happy to pay federal taxes because that would mean they are earning a living wage.

Taxes can be too too high but they can also be too low as they are today. If America is to remain "exceptional" it means that those who have more must pay a little more so that those with less are given a helping hand to achieve. If America is to remain "exceptional", it must invest in itself through collaborative public and private enterprises which means tax dollars combined with private dollars. If America is to remain "exceptional", there must be shared sacrifice and ultimately shared prosperity.

Jody let's stop promoting the "I'm a Victim of someone else's success" mentality. It certainly isnt helping the percieved victim. After 2 years we really need a new message to move this country forward. Of course we have to get past the damage Obama did to the Healthcare and the banking industry with those 2 ridiculous bills. New leadership in 2012 is needed. Like I said this is a great country but we make poor victims. We are at our best when everyone pulling thier own weight.

Nebo, Let's say an 18 year old couldnt get a govt grant or a $200k govt backed student loan, payable over his life time. How much do you think it would really cost to send jr. to college? Let's say instead of medicare getting the bill the patient got the $32 bill for a Tylenol pill? Would it really cost that much for healtcare? See what I mean let's get the government out and start using common sense when we purchase items. Get it your money-you decide what is fair... I call that real fair trade not subsidized inflation....

UAW...You're a GOP lemming and sad joke of an American! For some unbelievable reason, you righties believe that all or even most people requiring the assistance of social programs like Medicare, Social Security and Food Stamps haven't worked to help themselves first! WTF are you talking about?? Seniors have worked their whole lives paying into the system to support Medicare and Social Security! Now you want to cut them off after decades of building and defending the very country you live in? You pathetic ingrate and disrepectful GOP stormtrooper!!! How dare you attack the hardest and bravest Americans ever? Where do you people come from? JFC!!!Do you know many MILITARY FAMILIES and members of the NYC POLICE FORCE are on FOOD STAMPS right now because their wages are too low? The GOP is quick to scream "Support the troops and first responders!" Sounds good, but they need more than your moral support and a bumper sticker, loser!!

Also, you right-wing M/F's fight tooth and nail to eliminate unions which help workers get better salaries, benefits and retirement in order to take care of themselves, then chastise them for "not taking care of themselves" when you cut their benefits! WTF?? Do you think EVERY American can be an independent business owner all at the same time? Please tell me you're not that God damn stupid, pleeeeease!! If the GOP wasn't bought and paid for by Pharma lobbists and the banking system, then perhaps costs would be more manageable for seniors today! To add insult to injury, you GOP-fed idiots continue to fight for banking de-regulation, eventhough the very FACT of poor or missing regulation caused the loss of TRILLIONS in 401k accounts, retirement funds and home equity for millions of WORKING CLASS AMERICANS TRYING TO TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES VIA HARDWORK AND INVESTING!!! You igorant loser, PLEEEEEEEEASE SHUT THE &%$^ UP!! And you wonder why we call you idiots HYPOCRITES??

The problem with communism is eventually you run out of other people's money but IF you're Obama you hire Geithner and Bernanke to PRINT TRILLIONS and INFLATE GAS, FOOD prices and DESTROY OUR PRECIOUS SAVINGS.

The limosine to which you refer was ordered and built prior to President Obama's election in November, 2008. President Obama had nothing to do with it just as he had nothing to do with the planned upgrade of the presidential helicopter which had not been built and President Obama stopped it.

Please explain communism to us Madison because obviously you have a different definition from what it is. Bernanke was first appointed to be Fed Chair by President George W. Bush. It is Wall Street commodity speculators that are driving up the cost of gas and food--or did you claim it was Bush's fault in 2008? Goldman Sachs said that about $.70 per gallon of gas is due to Wall Street speculators; the Big 5 Oil companies testified to that as well. You really need to get your facts straight.

Crack kills, so please stop smoking it!!! Gas and food prices are going up because the GOP won't allow regulation of speculators on Wall Street! Why not? Well, it's because those Wall Street buddies have sent tens of millions of dollars to the campaign funds of GOP and "friendly" Democrat congressmen in "oil country" to buy that support!! If fuel prices go up, then companies have to offset the costs by increasing the price to consumers. It's simple economics, eventhough I know you never took the course! Demand for oil went down, yet prices at the pump went up ALL DUE TO SPECULATION!! You need to ask your GOP Congressmen why they keep fighting for the speculators instead of you and average Americans! According to testimony to Congress by big oil execs, somewhere between $30-40 of every $100 you spend on gas is for market speculation, aka NOTHING!!! WHAT THE ....??Basically, BIG OIL IS ROBBING YOU WITH YOUR REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMEN'S HELP FOR NEARLY HALF OF WHAT YOU SPEND ON GAS!! Obama already past legislation to fix that in the Dodd-Frank bill, but your Greedy Old Party keeps blocking it from taking affect! So, why are you blaming Obama for trying to give you back your money? That seems extremely foolish to me!!

Now let's tackle your "destroyed precious savings", shall we? That ignorant, idiotic, "C" student, George W. Bush was on watch when the economy came CRASHING DOWN! The resulting TSUNAMI (yes, it's over used, but applies to this subject) caused the loss of 8 million jobs, 50K factories, trillions in 401k and investment accounts and the faith in the entire banking system!! THAT is what destoyed your precious savings, if you had one!! The blame rests with Boehner, Cantor, McConnell and the rest of the GOP prostitutes in congresses all across America who have been bought by big oil, trapped by a signed pledge not to raise taxes and/or too stupid to read the polls that say Americans overwhelmingly want to end oil subsidies, leave Medicare alone and tax the wealthy!! Ignoring those polls won't make them go away! Boehner claims they are there to conduct the "people's business", well then he might want to learn to read those polls telling him what the American people want, instead of what the "people" on Wall Street want! I thought he represented a district in Ohio, not lower Manhattan and the Gulf States??

There IS one little speech Obama could give this afternoon, and get us out of debt by THIS WEEKEND......

He could call a special press conference, go up to the podium and say:

"Hello America, I have called this special press conference, not to take questions, just to tell you about a few things that I have on my mind, and what I am going to do. Lately, I have been thinking real hard, and things are just not working out like I wanted them to. Not at all. The biggest overall problem I have to face every night that I look in the mirror before I go to bed is the huge national debt that we have, and how directly or indirectly people are suffering because of it. Yes, year after year I am having to present a budget that is nearly twice the size of the money that we bring in in taxes, and this is not right.

People, we are headed in the wrong direction, and as President of this fine nation, I am tired of seeing our people suffer, tired of all the political games, and tired of all the inaction that we have here in Washington. So, as of today, I am implementing immediate changes to this great nation of ours.

Effective immediately, I am fully opening up drilling and production of oil and natural gas reserves here in the United States. Yes, leases can be aquired immediately, to get our people back to work. Also, I am implementing a nationwide overhall of all our roads and bridges. Yes, our roads and bridges are old and falling apart in many places in this country. Also, effective immediately, I am decriminalizing marijuana. Our jails are filled up, many of whom are people who just got caught with an ounce of marijuana while driving home from work. Now they are in jail for two to three years. This is not right. After studying how Amsterdam legalized it, and the use of marijuana actually went down, I am quite confident that this is the right thing to do. It is one of the best decisions that I am making, to create more tax revenue for this great nation of ours.

Also, effective immediately, I am appointing a new committee to go after waste and fraud in the five main areas of government spending: Social Security, Defense, Unemployment/Welfare, Medicare, and Medicaid. This new comittee will report to me monthly on the waste and fraud it has uncovered. Yes, you will know monthly about your hard earned tax dollars that have been saved as a result of their work.

People, we need to get back to work, and make our economy strong again. And what better way for us to do this than to put our people back to work in a profession that they already know how to do. Do you realize because of my action today, how many people are going to come off of the unemployment checks, and get a job that pays a real check? All of these people that will be returning to the work force will be doing two things. They will be getting off of the government check and paying taxes to the government. This is a twofold way that will help get our yearly budget balanced.

Yes, all of these things that I have immediately implemented this afternoon will strengthen the economy by creating millions of new jobs, save massive amounts of money, and generate massive amounts of revenue for this great nation of ours. People, I promised you change. I have been going down the wrong track for quite some time now......... For this, I deeply apologize. Implementing these changes this afternoon though, is the right thing to do, and yes America ---- this is the change you can believe in!

                            Thank you"

Now go get the tissue and wipe the tears from your face, because THIS SPEECH WILL NEVER HAPPEN. THERE IS NO LEADERSHIP IN WASHINGTON.

WHEN ARE WE GOING TO ELECT PEOPLE THAT REALLY UNDERSTAND THE HEARTS OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, AND KNOW HOW TO REALLY FIX THE PROBLEMS?

The president made a point today of highlighting Bryson's status as a promoter of clean energy, a field he has consistently argued the government must invest in to keep America competitive and spur the growth of new jobs and businesses.

"John understands this better than virtually anybody," Obama said. "Throughout a distinguished career in which he's led non-profits government agencies and large companies, he's been a fierce proponent of alternative energy." Wonderful. The President just doesn't get it, or doesn't want to. We have more fossil fuel energy available to us then any other country on the planet, with the possible exception of Russia. Man made global warming is a hoax, and the whole world now knows it. We need jobs that can, and should be created by the Coal, Oil, and Gas industry and Obama brings in some guy who specializes in moonbeams and bird farts to power our economy. 2012 can't come soon enough. I would love to hear Obama debate his position with successful businessman like Herman Cain, Mitt Romney or Jon Huntsman.

How much more of the taxpayers' money should we spend pursuing a practical alternative energy source?

It was reported, and if true it borders on criminal, that less equivalent taxpayer dollars were spent on the combined Manhattan and Apollo projects than have been spent on the quest for an alternative energy source with no results to date that are a practical replacement for fossil fuels as our primary energy source.

As long as Obama is in office, he will continue to preach alternative fuel sources as the "source of jobs to spur the economy in the future." And he will be right. We may not live long enough to see these wonderful jobs, but at some point in time, we will have to start relying on "clean energy jobs." Meanwhile, back at the ranch, We're sitting on a 2 to 4 hundred year supply of cheap, abundant, fossil fuel that could be fueling our recovery. We need to get Obama's dumb, arrogant, butt out of Office and get someone in there that understands this. We are heading for $5.00 a gallon gasoline and he wants to raise taxes on oil companies so we can pay even more. You just have to love his logic.

Allan W...Dude, get a grip quickly!! You need to unplug from the FOXNonsense outlet a little bit! The question to all the categories you listed is WHY?

Why is the debt up to $14.3T? It was a over $10T when Bush left office at the beginning of the biggest economic disaster America has seen since the 1930's Great Depression! So, what raised the debt by $4T? The continuation of the Bush-era tax cuts fought for by the GOP, the extremely costly wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, unemployment for the 8 MILLION PEOPLE HURT BY THE RECESSION and the economic stimulus required to reverse the downward momentum of the recession! Why wasn't the GOP crying about the $4T in debt Bush added during his 8 years in office though? Hmmmm?

Why is gas at $4/gal and oil at $100 per barrel? Speculation!! Why did demand for oil go down and price still increased? Speculation again!! Why is speculation allowed to continue when Obama passed a bill to curb it already? GOP interference and Wall Street lobbists! Why is the economic recovery slowing down? High gas prices are stealing the economic stimulus to buy other stuff, increase demand and create jobs!! Why do the GOP faithful not challenge their leadership to fight speculation that's costing them too? Who knows?

Why does the GOP continue to fight against reigning in healthcare and insurance costs when those issues cause so much PAIN for people and our overall economic health? A: Rich lobbists and campaign dononations to the GOP!! Americans continue to go bankrupt due to these high costs and denied insurance claims, while Pharma companies and insurance firms reap high profits! Why do Republicans continue to try to shift that blame on Dems and Obama? Blind stupidity, factless rhetoric and profit motive!!

Why is the Housing Market and home values so weak? The housing bubble, which was over inflated by crappy and greedy lendors and investment firms, burst under PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH! The resulting pandemic of home foreclosures continues today due to a large surplus of homes of the market, inability to refinance crappy mortgages, high unemployment caused by the same crash and a complete and total lack of trust in the economy, banking system and job market needed to lure buyer into buying homes again. Why does all this still exist? The GOP won't allow finance reform to take affect, thus blocking the prevention of another crash! But WHY are they blocking reform? GREED, GREED, GREED!!

Even more surprising is the crazy fact that the GOP took 147 days after taking control of the House to submit a "Jobs Bill", but sadly all that bill called for was more tax cuts for the wealthy!! That's not exactly a jobs bill because the wealthy have had the Bush-era tax cuts for 8 years under W and 8 million jobs were lost! They were suppose to create jobs, right? In contrast, Obama's stimulus to companies who create jobs in AMERICA resulted in over 1.5 million jobs in about the last year and a half!! At the time BUSH left office AMERICA WAS LOSING 750,000 JOBS A MONTH!! Today due to OBAMA's policies, WE'RE ADDING 200-250 JOBS A MONTH!! THAT'S A SWING OF 1 MILLION JOBS IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION!!!

I am a lifelong Republican. O'Bama is going to be difficult to beat. There is no Republican candidate now in the race who has the skills, experience, ability to project a message and to raise the money required to win. O'Bama has made missteps. He has also been moving to the center. He got Bin Laden. Yes, there is a laundry list of issues he needs to address. But generally at the Presidential level, the electorate doesn't vote against someone as much as they vote for someone. That someone has yet to emerge.

Rick, you need to re-think that. Mitt Romney can buy and sell Obama out of his own back pocket. Money won't be an issue. As far as a debate. No tele-prompters involved. It would be a battle of wits and Obama is unarmed and has no record of merit to stand on. Look at Romney's business record and success record in Massachusetts working with the other party. I would pay to see that debate.

As a long-time resident of the Great State of Massachusetts, I can assure you that Romney doesn't have a prayer. Yes, he's rich, but he's not that rich. Eventually, you have to look at the candidates for who they are, what they stand for and what they've accomplished, and Mitt simply won't stand up to that test.

                                          The real story ...

(CNSNews.com) – John Bryson, nominated by President Barack Obama today to head the Department of Commerce, once said it was "incredibly important" that the United States pass cap and trade legislation and that America needed to become a global leader in combating man-made global warming.

"I regard it as incredibly important that the United States comes forth in this year with federal climate change legislation as a foundation for moving ahead,"

Hard to say that 2% are benefiting from 98% when those 2% pay 70% of the federal income taxes while nearly 50% pay none.

Actually, I think those 2% pay a little over 50% of the income taxes, but every year they take in 70% of the income of all Americans.

The point is that it doesn't matter how many people pay most of the taxes - it only matters how much of the income is being taxed - and that 2% is not actually paying their share.

The Global Warming Hoax. The central lie is that we are experiencing a known human-caused climate crisis, a claim based on speculative theories, contrived data and totally unproven modeling predictions. And the evidence? Much is revealed by politically corrupted processes and agenda-driven report conclusions rendered by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which are trumpeted in the media as authoritative gospel.

Another lie claims that there is a consensus among climate scientists that a known man-made global warming crisis exists. Official statements to the contrary presented by more than 650 international climate-related experts who presented contrary official testimony recorded in a 2008 U.S. Senate minority report suggest otherwise. So do petitions signed by more than 30,000 scientists that have challenged IPCC's 1995 procedures and report representations.

Those circumstances prompted Dr. Frederick Seitz, former president of the U.S. Academy of Sciences, the American Physical Society, and Rockefeller University to write in The Wall Street Journal: "I have never witnessed a more disturbing corruption of the peer review process than events that led to this IPCC report."

And now Obama wants to hire Professor Moonbeam. Wonderful. We need to get Obama out of there and get somebody that understands business. We need jobs, not rhetoric. Come on 2012.

The only lies being told are coming from the only ones with a serious economic horse in the race, i.e. the polluters. Sorry to hear you believe their rhetoric. Do you still think cigarettes don't cause cancer?

It remains a fact that the vast majority of the non-partisan academic and scientific community supports the theory of global warming.

Well tim, that was a cute little response about the "economic horse, polluters, and cigarettes." I don't know what you are backing your fact on, even though you believe it remains, so let's examine the economic part.

What redemptive solutions are urgently implored? We must implement carbon cap-and-trade legislation; give lots of money to the U.N. to redistribute, and empower them to preside over world governments; abandon fossil fuel use in favor of heavily subsidized but assuredly abundant, "free," and "renewable" alternatives; and empower expanding government bureaucracies to protect us from free market excesses. These include the same agencies that declared CO2 a "pollutant" (something rain forests certainly dispute), and that listed polar bears as a threatened species (despite expanding populations), presumably to discourage public support for oil and gas drilling in ANWR.

Corrupt climate science, upon which such fallacies are based, presents incalculably vast economic and social consequences. It provides justification and cover for gross regulatory intrusion by the EPA, DoE and other government agencies into agriculture, energy, transportation and construction industries; escalates food, fuel and manufacturing costs through unwarranted mandates and subsidies for otherwise uncompetitive "renewable" fuels; provokes legislation and legal suits that paralyze vital fossil energy exploration and infrastructure development; drives drilling operations and other job-supporting businesses overseas; politicizes and subverts science, education and media reporting; and defrauds hardworking taxpayers who pay many billions of dollars for honest information.

Seems like the "polluters" are not the only ones with a serious economic horse in the race. Sorry to hear you believe the tree hugger's rhetoric. Do you still believe the Sun revolves around the Earth, or Obama's Butt?

Ron...Do you think that industry will voluntarily govern themselves in a manner to keep people safe from harm? If so, then why did the government need to step in and create policies to protect the public from unsafe building codes, toxic wate dumping and nuclear regulatory controls? Why is it acceptable to you to allow those industries or any company to conduct business any damn way they choose, regardless of the consequences?? Also, since you're in the practice of disputing science, what manner of testing do you subscribe to when in comes to the crap you can visibily see pouring into the air, like fossil emissions, let alone the stuff you can't see like CFC's? Is everything all about making a buck for you moral-lacking fools? I can't stand the fact that the political theorists in this country call you ridiculous environmental rapists" conservatives"! You idiots can't get any further away from being conservative about anything! You can't even claim to be religious conservatives because if God created the Earth in seven days, as your Creationism crowd believes, then why do you nuts continue to try and destroy it and ignore all evidence that you are doing so?? Where do you think all of the pollutants we create from usage of the products we consume eventually go to? They have to go somewhere, unless you believe in a magic button that sends it all to another dimension or something? You don't believe in environmental destruction, SO WHERE DOES IT ALL GO?? I'd love to your "scientific" explanation of that question! After that, maybe we can have a debate, but somehow I know you'll never answer the question, IDIOT!!! How do people like you function everyday? Dems should be lobbying for guns to protect ourselves from you ass-backwards folk!! GEEZ!!

Who stands to gain from the politics of corrupt climate science? There are many culprits, and they are becoming ever more powerful. Principal among them are certain agenda-driven federal government regulatory agencies; alternative energy and environmental lobbies; a captive multibillion-dollar per year climate science industry; cap-and-trade marketers; large, associated special-interest hedge fund managers; and yes, the U.N. and other organizations seeking global resource and wealth redistribution.

While it might be overreaching to bundle certain dishonest players within various categories into a unified conspiracy theory, many of these organs of misinformation clearly do appear to be joined at a common colon. Either way, the end results are much the same.

To answer your question. "Where do you think all of the pollutants we create from usage of the products we consume eventually go to? Mother Nature has been burning fossil fuel for years. Forest fires, volcanic activity, etc. Far more than man ever dreamed of. She takes care of it. "SO WHERE DOES IT ALL GO?? I hope not in Al Gore's pocket. Or Barrack Obama's

                                                          #18.4 - Wed Jun 1, 2011 4:14 PM EDT

The Obama administration has repeatedly said job creation is a top priority, but apparently the memo seems to have missed the bureaucrats at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

This became evident when EPA Assistant Administrator Mathy Stanislaus testified before an Environment and Energy subcommittee hearing that his agency does not take jobs into account when it issues new regulations.

“We have not directly taken a look at jobs in the proposal,” Stanislaus said, referring to a regulation that would govern industries that recycle coal ash and other fossil fuel byproducts.

Stanislaus made his comments in response to questioning by Colorado GOP Rep. Cory Gardner looking into whether the EPA is complying with a recent presidential executive order and considering jobs in its regulatory regime. The EPA issued a April 30, 2010 statement in the appendix of its regulatory impact analysis for proposed regulation under the Resources and Recovery Act (RCRA) of coal ash.

That statement said: “The [regulatory impact assessment] does not include either qualitative or quantitative estimation of the potential effects of the proposed rule on economic productivity, economic growth, employment, job creation or international economic competitiveness.”

The statement contradicts Executive Order 13563, which President Obama signed in January requiring rules to take job creation into account when federal agencies issue new rules.

IDIOT!!! How do people like this function everyday? Americans should be lobbying for guns to protect ourselves from these ass-backwards folk!! GEEZ!!

So, Ron, your rationale is based on yet another conspiracy theory. Ok. Got it. Mine is a little more factual. To wit:

                                                            1. Cap & Trade was a Republican invention as an alternative to further direct government regulation. In fact, it was implemented in the 80's to solve the problem of acid rain. You remember acid rain, right?

                                                            2. It worked. Emissions were dramatically reduced and the problem of acid rain went away.

                                                            3. It didn't require regulation but it still cost industry some serious money to retool. C'est la vie.

This seems like common sense. Emissions, pollution, large-scale environmental impact - seems pretty obvious. Funny how common sense only makes sense to some folks when it suits their agenda.

However, it's perfectly obvious that the cost of fixing this problem to industry dwarfs some imaginary economic benefits of some kind of global conspiracy in the world-wide academic community. The argument that it's a conspiracy of corrupt academicians is silly to the point of being laughable.

                                                            Thank you for smoking.
