2012: Bachmann, Palin compete for the same space?

In his latest National Journal column, NBC’s Charlie Cook breaks down the 2012 GOP field. On Huntsman: "[I]t’s awfully hard to see how this candidacy works." On Romney: "Although he enjoys national name recognition and an impressive network of supporters and donors remaining from his 2008 bid for the GOP nomination, Romney carries burdens that may limit his ability to expand his current levels of support." On Pawlenty: "At this stage, Pawlenty’s strength is more theoretical than real, but when you work through the challenges that each of the other candidates faces, he seems to have fewer problems than the rest."

BACHMANN: Politico’s Jonathan Martin points out that Bachmann announced she was likely to launch a presidential bid, “hours after Sarah Palin announced a bus tour.” And: “The Minnesotan called Palin ‘a friend,’ but quickly added that no two candidates ‘are interchangeable’ and then touted her resume as a tax attorney, education reformer and former state senator. Bachmann declined to say if she would announce in time to participate in a debate on June 13th in New Hampshire, but said she would decide soon.”

Proof the Bachmann people know they’re competing for the same oxygen as Palin… The New Hampshire Union Leader writes of Palin’s trip to New Hampshire and then adds, “Coincidentally, late this afternoon, the point person for Minnesota U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, a potential presidential candidate who, like Palin, is a champion of the Tea Party/liberty movement, released details of Bachmann's aggressive schedule in New Hampshire this weekend and early next week.”

“Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann told reporters tonight that she will travel to her hometown of Waterloo next month to announce whether she will run for president,” the Des Moines Register writes.

The Des Moines Register’s Obradovich: “People don’t come to Iowa to announce they’re not running. If she actually schedules a speech, that’ll be pretty big tip-off that she’s jumping in. She touted her fund-raising, including a 30-hour effort that her staff said raised over $260,000.”

“Tea Party favorite Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) on Thursday night spent five minutes on the House floor in an attempt to justify her vote for the Patriot Act, after admitting to receiving significant feedback from her supporters urging her to reject it,” The Hill reports.

CHRISTIE: The Bergen Record: “Governor Christie said this morning that he will pull New Jersey out of a regional cap-and-trade energy program.” GOP 12’s Heinze writes that the move “will encourage speculation that he might run for president in 2012.”

GINGRICH: The Comeback Kid? In New Hampshire, “[T]he crowds heard Gingrich declare at nearly every stop that his campaign is alive and well, casting himself as a ‘comeback kid’ — a moniker once widely applied to his old nemesis Bill Clinton,” the Washington Post writes. He said, “Look what happened to me over the last 10 days: We had every Washington analyst, except one, explain that my campaign was dead. I just relaxed. They were in a feeding frenzy, they had to get it out of their system, and I knew they would eventually calm down. The trick is, we need to stay focused on talking about what matters for America.”

“Republican presidential hopeful and former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich is heading to Columbia,” the AP writes. “Gingrich will speak at a Five Points Rotary Club luncheon Friday at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. It will be Gingrich's first visit to the state since he criticized GOP plans for a sweeping overhaul of Medicare, and his first visit since officially launching his candidacy for the Republican nomination for president earlier this month.”

HUNTSMAN: Demon RINO: A Christian conservative blog, Verum Serum, makes this video taking aim at Huntsman’s moderate positions.

While on his California swing, the Orange County Register’s editorial page writes, “It's too early to make any meaningful judgments about Mr. Huntsman as a presidential contender but his credentials, particularly the economic stability of Utah and his unique foreign policy experience, make him an intriguing addition to a Republican field of candidates that needs some pizzazz.”

PALIN: On the news of Sarah Palin’s reemergence, The Chicago Sun-Times’ Steinberg writes, “As if the death of Osama bin Laden weren’t enough good news for one month to offer the once-sagging political fortunes of the Obama administration — the terrorist mastermind was killed May 1, though it already seems like a year ago — when you include the failure of the Republican Medicare overhaul to pass in the Senate, plus indications that Tea Party darling Sarah Palin might actually run for president, the mood at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue must border on unbridled jubilation.”

PAWLENTY: “In his first foray into New Hampshire since becoming an official candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty yesterday denounced the federal stimulus program, even though under his leadership his state benefited from billions of dollars of the aid,” the Boston Globe reports. “Pawlenty met with reporters and the public and toured Cirtronics, an electronics manufacturing company that indirectly received $935,000 in federal stimulus money.”

“Promising honest debates about the nation’s most serious problems, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty paid a visit to Cirtronics Corporation on Thursday afternoon,” the New Hampshire Union Leader writes. (But check out the photo accompanying the story…)

ROMNEY: The Des Moines Register tees up Romney’s trip to Iowa today, his first trip this cycle, and it’s not glowing: “Many of Mitt Romney’s key Iowa backers from four years ago have scattered or have so far declined to commit to support the potential presidential candidate, partly because he has campaigned so lightly here so far… Several Iowans who were gung-ho for Romney last election argue that given the current circumstances, he has few excuses for avoiding Iowa.”

“Republican Mitt Romney is returning to Iowa to begin what his aides promise will be a leaner campaign for the state's leadoff nominating caucuses than the expensive juggernaut he assembled here in his 2008 race,” the AP’s Beaumont reports. The former Massachusetts governor plans to officially announce his second bid for the presidency next week in New Hampshire, the state around which he's built his 2012 strategy.”

The Boston Globe’s headline on Romney’s trip: “For GOP moderates, new hope in Iowa.” From the story: “[S]plit loyalties within its ranks could improve the chances of a more moderate GOP candidate like Mitt Romney, who stumbled here in 2008 and has spent little time in Iowa since. The former Massachusetts governor, who makes his first 2011 visit to Iowa today and will formally announce his candidacy Thursday, is up against the fact that, over the past quarter-century, highly motivated Christian conservatives have played an outsize role in a presidential selection process here.”

RYAN: Dick Cheney, according to the Houston Chronicle (via GOP 12) says he hopes Ryan doesn’t run, because “that would ruin a good man who has a lot of work to do.” He also said (really, he said this): "I worship the ground the Paul Ryan walks on.”

What I find funny is the article stating that the two would be fighting over the same oxygen...heck, they have been squabbling over the same helium for a while now and with all the other Repub/TPer 'candidates' in the game they are now fighting over pure vacuum. The right wing is in the process of imploding as EVERYBODY can see their lies for what they are: The right wing is actively working to totally destroy the middle class and poor and make sure that the top 1% has a full 99% of all wealth not only in the US, but the rest of the world as well. We do not need them nor the thieves and con-men that they represent anywhere near the levers of power and now that they have shown their hands, the ones that they have been bluffing on, they are Not going to be dealt into the next round.

The right-wing's oath to Grover Norquist's demand of Not Raising Taxes is not only an oath to suicide, publicly and messily, it verges on a conspiracy to commit treason against the People of the United States. I, for one, would enjoy a Justice Department inquiry into just that!

Wouldn't it be funny if they joined forces. And decided to run as President And Vice President. I think I would like it because the left wouldn't take them serious until it was too late.

Hey! Mr. B. Honest: Name one thing that Obama has done for the poor and middle class. I'm dieing out here because of that idiot. If your talking about the so called federal union workers being middle class. You couldn't pay for their wages or retirement without the private sector. And all he's doing is destorying us.

Phil, actually the HCR is a help for the middle class, as was making sure that Unemployment payments were extended and Paid For, even though he had to go along with the Repubs on the tax break thing in order to get the. Also, do remember that there are OVER 400 bills that the Repubs filibustered, mostly through use of their arcane Rule 22, that would have helped the middle class and poor tremendously. These bills were blocked by the Repubs SPECIFICALLY because they would have helped the middle class and the poor and thus made Pres. Obama look good: something that they just CANNOT allow and have so avowed repeatedly. It is NOT that President Obama has done nothing, it is the fact that the Repubs have blocked anything and everything that they can so as to make people like you blame Pres. Obama when in fact it has been the Repubs that deserve all the blame and shame. I too am suffering from what the Repubs have done, not only during the Bush years and prior, but how they have been acting to derail proper Governmental function over the last 2.5 yrs and how they are acting now in their direct attacks against us. Their actions, attacking Americans who are supposed to be represented by them, is tantamount to treason against us. Economic warfare is still warfare and people are dying because of their extreme intransigence. Do NOT blame President Obama, place that blame and shame where it properly belongs, on the heads of the extremely radicalized Repub party and their TPer wing.

    Be Honest:

Since 2006 The Democrats had control of the House and the Senate. And your trying to pass all the blame onto Bush. Just one example. He was called a racist when trying to put the brakes on Freddie Mack and Fannie Maye. You have no blame on Chris Dodd or Barney Frank? And I can name plenty more Dems. And your pushing this all off on Bush? The Democratic Senate is still playing games with our lives. Lets Be Honest.

      #1.7 - Sun May 29, 2011 2:40 PM EDT

Just because the Dems have had a majority does NOT mean that they have been able to pass the programs needed since the Repubs have been able to block anything and everything in the Senate with the Rule 22 'filibuster'. The Repubs have stated, time and time again that they will NOT work with President Obama and the Dems, that it HAS to be Their Way or No Way: they are doing their damdest to make sure that the Obama Presidency is seen as a failure. America can see this very plainly, especially with the present, bald-faced attacks on Social Security and Medicare: We Will Not Be Fooled Again, no matter what they say, their ACTIONS speak much louder than words.

The Repubs are TOTALLY to blame for the Government not being able to do anything to help the Middle Class and Poor, just look at how the Repubs have consistently held out for MORE tax breaks for those who are Already-Too-Obscenely-Rich-To-Fail, the Ryan 'Plan' that cuts programs that are desperately NEEDED by Millions of people now and then giving ALL the savings made to those same rich, a few thousand of them, who certainly could live VERY well if their income was cut off completely and they had to live on just what they have now....they would be able to spend the rest of their lives and their children's lives it the total luxury that they enjoy now. Why should 400 families have MORE wealth than 155 MILLION people. That is just plain obscene, especially when these people sequester their money and DO NOT HIRE: They get almost all of their money from manipulating stocks and money markets, and then do not even pay all of the taxes owed on it by shipping said money to overseas tax shelters.

And YES, Bush, Cheney and the Repubs are TOTALLY to blame for the present ills of this Nation, they changed the laws that regulated the financial industries and Corporations and spent like there was NO tomorrow, they destroyed over 50,000 companies and threw tens of millions of people out of work and now are trying, just like you, to pin the blame on the Dems. America is seeing through this screen of lies and re-writing of history and WE WILL NOT STAND FOR IT ANY LONGER. The way that the Repubs/TPers have been acting is going to give President Obama a second term VERY easily and most likely return control of the House to the Dems and on top of that give the Dems an unfilibusterable majority in the Senate. The Repubs/TPers ran on the premise of JOBS and "Death Panels" and NOW they are showing their true colors by ignoring unemployment entirely, except to defund it, and attacking Medicare in ways that are MUCH worse than the so-called "Death Panels" that they tried to scare America with.

The Repubs/TPers are toast and are slitting their own political throats with their lies, misdeeds and blocking EVERYTHING that would actually help get America back on their feet.

Your own lies just do not meet the smell test, nor do they fly!

      Lets be Honest:

That's why you got slamed dunked during last election. And when you read 99% of the polls you find that even though they like Obama. They don't believe he's going in the right direction when it comes to running this country. And let's be honest. Rule 22 is no more than the right for unlimited debate from 2006 the democrats still had the overwhelming majority until they got spanked at the last election. They still had the majority of the votes. But their own party couldn't hold together for fear of the repercussions of the next elections. As President Obama said to the republicans. YOU LOST. You have to deal with idea that this Administration dosen't have a clue. If you elect him again do you think you might put some of the responsability on Obama another five years from now. By then it would be total chaos. Then it will be your fault.

Palin is much sharper, more experienced, and definitely more aware of the problems we face than the current occupant of the White House! Her problem is that she's been so viciously maligned by the liberal media that many uninformed or partially informed voters (and contributors to this blog) believe the media lies. So based on that garbage, I don't think she could overcome the media bias to get the word out to the majority of voters that are simply unaware of who she is and what she has to offer. My suggestion earlier was a bit tongue in cheek.

The current occupant of the White House got elected based on reverse media bias! The media orchestrated a magnificent campaign on behalf of a guy with no experience and a questionable background. A guy that wasn't properly vetted by his own party. If was a fluke and the timing was perfect in the country for him to win! Most of his votes came from people who hated Bush and went with a different party... and many first time voters got swept up in the fervor over electing a black man for President for the first time in history! I too got grabbed by that excitement and voted against the Republican candidates, but I now realize that was a mistake and it was more important to elect someone who could get the job done! I don't know if McCain would have done better, but I can't believe he would have put us in a worse spot that we're in today!

BTW Sarah Palin was viciously maligned by her own unscripted answers to simple questions such as "what newspapers do you read". Her phony image was viciously maligned by her very real stupidity, she is polling in the basement with republicans, so is she now being viciously maligned by Fox. She has her own forum, no attack dogs like Katie Couric (hahaha) to ask her tough questions like what did you eat for breakfast, and she continues to lose popularity with republicans. You are one of the very last members of her fan club.

I think Palin and Bachman should have an elimination mud wrestling bout with the winner to take on Rick Santorum in a cage match to see who will get the vote from the lunatic wing of the Republican Party.

I can't believe how many libbies at this blog are so very afraid of Sarah Palin! But really folks. let's move on and figure out why anyone (I mean anyone who really knows what's going on in the this country today) would want to give Obama a second term? This is hilarious.... I wish Trump would jump back in to give you guys someone else to come up with equally lame insults.... meanwhile the country is in the toilet and you seem to be in denial.... or don't read!

Actually this is not funny at all, but thankfully I know you guys only represent a very tiny part of the equation, so it doesn't mean squat. Enjoy an Obama joke from me and much more clever than any Palin joke you have been able to come up with .....:

                    Q. How does President Obama intend to fix America's path to citizenship for illegal aliens? A. He's going to add high speed lanes. or this one:

                    Q. Why did Obama wait so long to release his birth certificate?

                    A. He didn't have a registered copy of PhotoShop

Seriously though would someone please tell me why we should reelect Obama? ..... please!

And don't send me a list of bills he's signed that came across his desk from the equally culpable House or Senate!

People will learn exactly how unknowledgeable Palin is of government affairs when she's required to debate her own party constituates. Palin wants the GOP nomination for the wrong reason(s). She idolizes Reaganomics, which is where Capitalistic Greed raised its hungry head for Republicans. You'd think, after 5 terms under Republican "trickle down" and their raising the Nat'l Debt by over $11 trillion, Republicans would find another mainstream platform to run on. Afterall, their whole purpose of canning entitlements for the middleclass is to free up more money from taxes with more "tax cuts for the wealthy". But, this is their ideal and Palin is into it up to her greedy neck. Bachmann seems to be more knowledgeable of government affairs; I imagine she at least knows there are 50 states and not 48-49. But again, Bachmann seems to look for a debate or argument with the opposite party.

I hope they both run ... nothing like a "cat fight". Women tend to fight pretty dirty ... but I don't think the Republican Party is in any position right now to toss dirt at its own party members. But a Palin/Bachmann ticket ... no way that will happen! If it did, 2012 would be as big of a landslide election as the Reagan vs. Mondale, and it wouldn't be going the GOP's way, either.

Then explain to us Obamanomics. He put 87000 people out of work by putting a moratorium on offshore drilling. His green jobs programs hasn't created one iota of profit. he's doubled our national debt. And he proposed to double the debt again in the next ten years. He reduced the retirement plan holdings stock of GM by 90% and gave the unions the majority stake of GM and you approve of this type of Government? He's filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to current in their income taxes. But their idea to fix our debt problems is to tax us and if we can't pay it we'll be penalized. What other President has orderd the fireing of the CEO of a major corporation even though he had no constitutional authority to do so. He has 32 Czars who report directly to him, bypassing the House and Senate on much of what is happing in America. And if you ask Obama theres 57 States. And if you need more information just reply.

If Salazar declared today that all exploratory wells needed to have a relief well being drilled simultaneously, which would increase employment of oil workers, you would scream to high heaven about the cost. Hypocrite.

I will bet you a BBillion dollars that if we ask Pesident Obama how many states there are in our union he will not say 57...............put up or shutup. And I'll bet you another $BBillion that he says 50. Dumbass.

57 stops in 47 states was what he was attempting to say 3 years ago.......you should let it go. It is only making you look like you are "stuck on stupid".

                                Hey! Paul:

Ken Salazar is a lair for Obama. Here are the facts. The forcast for the Federal Energy Administration said that oil production is expected to decline by 250.000 barrels per dayover each of the next two years due in part to the moratorium placed on deep water drilling and the subsequent slowdown of the issuence of new permits. And if Salazar would give us some relief it would save Us money. Take a math class Paul. About the 57 states like all Democrats it took quite awhile to come up with that explaination. And again. Without the facts all you guys have is name calling. Paul your intelligence shines. Have a great day.

President Obama decided to do one of his public addresses against the backdrop of an American farm, but the ceremony couldn't get started because of all the flies buzzing around his head. Obama demanded to know why the flies wouldn't leave, so the farmer explained to him, "Well, those are called circle flies. They always circle around the back end of horses." Obama angrily replied, "Hey, are you saying that I'm a horse's ass?" The farmer answered, "No Sir, Mister President. I would never call someone a horse's ass. It's hard to fool them flies though."

It was recently reported in the news that the President had been accidentally locked out of the White House. For that one panicked moment Obama thought that they must have found his real birth certificate.

Both Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann are favorites faces of Fox News and the TEA party, and are capable of raising huge amounts of money online. Both are polarizing to the nth degree. Neither have laid the ground work to run but both will slay the middle road and take further right the already extreme faction of the TEA party. Both are indeed unique in their respective methods, but both will radicalized further those most gullible. Michele Bachmann is a federal tax litigation attorney who touts herself as knowledgeable and serious. Sarah Palin is known for her short nonsensicalness and inarticulate non-substance answers to Katie Couric. Both camps view each other as incapable of winning any primaries. Senator Kent Sorenson, who will reportedly serve as Bachmann’s political director, stated that Palin “doesn’t seem like a credible candidate,” The word is: “Every time Bachmann gets some press, Palin will get herself out there a little more,” said one well-placed observer. “There’s a little jockeying going on.” They attract the same people – social conservatives and tea party activists.” The definition of a social conservative is: a political or moral ideology that believes that government has a role in encouraging or enforcing what they consider traditional values or behaviors. The question is who are they to force their Social conservative values on the American public? Others who are considered Social Conservatives are Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain and Rick Santorum. Who do these people think they are to shove their agenda on the American public? Another definition is "It is the persistent image of society as a command structure in which the responsibilities of leadership can be exercised within the framework of a strong state manifested divine-right royalism.
US president Ronald Reagan, who was a self-declared conservative, is widely seen as a symbol of American conservatism. In an interview, he said "I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism." Here's a known individual who openly stated the virtues of Libertarian conservative. While many religious conservatives believe that government should have a role in defending moral values, libertarian conservatives such as Barry Goldwater advocated a hands-off government where social values were concerned.
Libertarian conservatives support strict laissez-faire policies such as free trade which is what Rand and Ron Paul adhere to to the point of discrimination and bigotry.
Laissez-faire an environment in which transactions between private parties are free from state intervention, including restrictive regulations, taxes, tariffs and enforced monopolies, thus allowing discrimination and bigotry as seen ab ove..
Religious conservatives principally seek to apply the teachings of particular religions to politics, sometimes by merely proclaiming the value of those teachings, at other times by having those teachings influence laws. This allows one person to force his religious beliefs onto others whether they want it or not!
Fiscal conservatism is the economic philosophy of prudence in government spending and debt and a government does not have the right to run up large debts and then throw the burden on the taxpayer. This is the ultimate denial that there are: those who do not have the capability to earn for their keep, those who have outlived their usefulness and can be thrown under the bus and those who are SOL.

                                                            Hey Rudy:

You sound like a real smart Mexican. I guess you could say I'm the Religious Conservative. And what your saying is. Now the Court, supposedly on Jefferson's authority, absolutely prohibits students from being exposed to the concept that liberties are a gift of God. The court prohibits the very activities that Jefferson promoted and enacted as President. (ie reading the bible in the schools) In his notes to the state of virginia He said, And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with his wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: That his justice cant sleep forever. As far as Jeffersons statement of church and state . It was in response to the Danbury Babtists in a letter he wrote Jan 1st. 1802. Thirteen years after congress passed the First Amendment. Jefferson was not a delegate to the 1787 Constitutional Convention, nor was he a member of congress in 1789 (Which framed the First Amendment), nor was he a member of any state legislature or ratifying convention at anytime relevant to the passage of the First Amendment. He was serving as Minister to France throughout this time. If you need any proof of this check Jeffersons writings in Virginia. And checkout your history. Rudy I'll continue this dialog in a few minutes. I'll post what I have for now.

                                                              Rudy:

Back to the dialog. In the first part of your banter you have alot to say about your idea of what the possible Republican Presidential candidates are all about. Let me just talk about the One candidate you have. Obama. We can start with something we know about. In front of the Mexican Ambassador when it was the 5th. of May He was so spanish illiterate as to refer to Cinco de Cuatro instead of Cinco de Mayo and continued to flub it when he tried again, He has no idea of protocol when it comes to our foreign dignitaries. He get's schooled by one, He dosen't know how to shut his mouth when it comes to God Save the Queen, He bows down to lesser leaders. He's the only President who has visited all 57 states of our country. He's doubled the national debt, He criticized a state law that he admitted he didn't even read, He pronounced the Marine Corps like Marine Corpse, He put 87000 working people out of work by arbitrarily placine a moratorium on offshore drilling, He's the only President to need a telepromter installed to be able to get through a news confrence, He made a joke at the expence of the special olympics, He went to Austria and made reference to the nonexistent Austrian language, He flew to Denmark to make a five minute speech on how the Olympics would benefit him walking out his front door in his home town, He burned 9000 gallons of jet fuel to plant a single tree on earth day, Rudy! I can keep on going I have at least another seven items right off the top of my head. Like I've said before. If it wasn't for double standards You wouldn't have any stantards at all. That's why Republicans get whiped when they do something wrong and nothing happens when it's a Democrat. And with that list I can start with Barney Frank , Chris Dodd, Charlie Rangle, My explanation of that will be four times as long as Obamas. See you later Rudy. Have a nice day I'llbe happy to read more of your banter.

The Teleprompter again..........really? Do you think the teleprompter is magical and provides Obama with the answers to questions that no one else would be able to see? Dumbass, Phil. Answer that question without using the teleprompter. Bet you can't and won't. Pussy.

                                                                  #16.3 - Sun May 29, 2011 10:10 AM EDT

The teleprompter has no magic. You have to tell Obama that. He uses it to ramble on so as to not answer a specific question. Are you ok today Paul? You seem a little off. Maybe you ought to take a nap and then get back to me with something more inspiring. Take care bro.

                                                                    #16.4 - Sun May 29, 2011 1:56 PM EDT

I asked if you thought the teleprompter provided "answers" to questions; that it would magically know what questions were going to be asked ahead of time, and in what order, and that only Obama would be able to read the text of the answers provided.

The teleprompter is only employed for prepeared speeches and opening statements, it plays no role in how Obama answers questions in any news conference.

                                                                      #16.5 - Sun May 29, 2011 8:11 PM EDT

It's writing comprehension not reading. You have the reading problem. I said he uses the teleprompter to ramble on to avoid the question. Paul maybe you, me, and mom ought to go out for coffee sometime so we ca figure out why you are so upset. (was that an ok you're for you?) Paul. It's not about you and me. It's about politics. Let's figure out why the back of your brain isn't working right. And get back to some real dialog.

Go ahead and explain, the mechanics of "rambling on" while employing the teleprompter, to the class. You're not discussing politics, Phil. All you are doing is regurgitating "talking points" and repeating the FAUX NEWS lies. You are apparently Proud of being "stuck on your brand of STUPID".

I'll tell you what I am. I'm broke living off the good will of my family. About two years ago I had $14000.00 in savings. Making what I'm sure is well over what you're making today. I'm living in a garage Not because of Bush. But because of Obama. I don't want a hand out. I want to get back into the business that made me able to take care of people instead of people taking care of me. We have social programs that allow illegals to take advantage and live a life they haven't earned but they believe it's owed to them. I was in the grocery store buying myself some hot dog buns. And in front of me there were two mexicans not speaking english with three full baskets of food I haven't been able to afford for months. Yet they had drywall mud all over them like they just got off work. And they paid for their food with a food stamp card. I can't get a food stamp card. Not that I would want one. But this is the type of crap this Administration is bringing to this country. My eyes have been opened up alot latley I'm 58 years old. I can't get back to my field of employment. But I can't get anyone to invest in me mainly because no ones sure what the hell this guy is doing. I can get a great amount just on my word. Lose it and not even worry about paying it back. But why? you tell me why. I'll get back on my own feet and not because of takers like you and Paul. (Paid by the word.) You guys are a joke.

                                                                          #16.9 - Mon May 30, 2011 3:57 PM EDT

                                                                                    • A new Huckabee-free poll shows her two points behind the frontrunner Romney (if she's out of the running, Romney's lead widens).
                                                                                    • The other GOP candidates are really weak.
                                                                                    • The hardcore tea-drinking party base still loves her.
                                                                                    • She can raise money.
                                                                                    • She can draw a crowd.
                                                                                    • She is releasing her self-serving movie/infomercial in Iowa.
                                                                                    • She took a Middle East trip which she could use to burnish her flimsy foreign-policy credentials.
                                                                                    • She is launching national bus tours starting Memorial Day weekend, bringing family members along, visiting primary states including New Hampshire.
                                                                                    • She said she has the fire in the belly several times.
                                                                                    • Her presidential potential is what drives her career, such as it is: if she walks away from the 2012 race after walking away from the Alaska job, she could be one step away from selling floor wax in infomercials.
                                                                                    • It really doesn’t cost her anything except a year of effort.
                                                                                    • If she gets in, and the race doesn’t turn out to her advantage, she can always quit.
                                                                                    • Unlike the other candidates, she doesn’t need to win the White House, in order to get what she really wants – enough attention and cred to go back to her nonpolitical career.

Signs that suggest she will take a pass are not totally convincing:

                                                                                    • Preparation. She is quietly building a bit of a network in Iowa, but she has made little effort to visit the early primary states, or make preparations there, or recruit donors or staffers. But that may not mean much: she has her own notion of launching a career without following the normal rules or touching all the bases, which has political professionals watching in bewilderment. Palin thinks rules are for other people.
                                                                                    • Money: she would give up financial opportunities if she ran, but she could go right back to the money well after the race, assuming she lost, and make even more money.
                                                                                    • Family: the protestations that she is worried about her family's privacy sounds absurd in light of the way she has exploited her family already, to include taking them on the bus tours; at best she'll play the privacy card if she needs a face-saving way to quit the race.
                                                                                    • Moderates and independents don't like her, a lot of Alaskans dislike her, and party regulars are concerned about her behavior and her electability, but does she care?
                                                                                    • Fox doesn’t seem to think she’s running, but how many times has Fox gotten things wrong?
                                                                                    • She is actually the youngest contender, so she can wait. It seems that we’ve been hearing her name since the Third Crusade, but she’s only 47. Obama is 49. Huntsman, Pawlenty, Santorum and Bachmann are in their fifties. Romney, Gingrich and Cain have few chances left because they’re in their sixties, and Ron Paul is in his seventies. But does she want to wait, and let her name fade from our memories?

All that said, as I mentioned, the normal rules don’t seem to apply to her, and if we’re trying to use the rules of logic to predict her behavior, we can easily become lost. As she marches through the summer, watch to see if she does things that only a genuine candidate would do, as opposed to someone trying to attract publicity or to participate in the election in some other capacity like fundraising. If she does run, she could damage the GOP cause by driving the GOP presidential field to the right, and by driving up Democratic donations.

Huntsman has little form, Pawlenty and Romney appear to be runnuing in a different race than the others and I'm fairly certain the track vet for the equine version of mad cow disease. You have your not very bright religious loons like Palin and Santorum, Rightwing idiots who appear to have never had a US history, Civics or Econ class such as Perry and Bachmann an old time libertarian crazy in Ron Paul and John Crazy as a Bedbug Bolton whom you have to get to the t in Bolton before his name comes up on a search ending. God I'm dying to see the debate they will be talking about Noah and the flood and beastiality and the homosexual menace, Washington and Jefferson and THe Emancipation Proclamation, legalizing drugs, eliminating public education black helicopters and withdrawing from the UN, Global Warming is caused by God and it can be prayed away. At the end Rick Perry can announce the secession of Texas and his invasion of Mexico. Get out the popcorn.
