The New York Times: “President Obama tried to marshal global economic support for Egypt and Tunisia at a gathering of industrialized countries on Thursday, even as some European allies were privately urging him to increase the United States’ role in the military campaign in Libya.”
In Florida, President Obama has a 51% job approval rating, according to a Quinnipiac poll, and leads a generic Republican contender 44%-37%.
President Obama is going to visit Puerto Rico June 14, the first U.S. president to do so since 1961, the New York Daily News writes. And speaking of Florida, “Obama's visit is aimed more at the U.S. than the island… Perhaps the most important state is Florida, which has outstripped all the others in the growth of its Puerto Rican population and is the biggest battleground state in presidential elections,” the Daily News writes. “The 2010 Census counted 848,000 Puerto Ricans living in Florida. That's a 76% jump from 10 years earlier. There are almost as many Puerto Ricans in the Sunshine State as there are Cuban-Americans.”
Folks, all politics is local: This might have something to do with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s stance in appearing defiant to President Obama: A Jerusalem Post poll shows that by a 40%-12% margin, more Israeli Jews think President Obama is more Palestinian than Israeli; 34% were neutral, 13% had no opinion. (Hat tip: PoliticalWire.)
And a new Haartez poll, per PoliticalWire, shows Netanyahu got a bounce from his trip to the U.S. His approval jumped an astounding 13 points from just 38% to 51%. Five weeks ago, his approval was just 38%/53%.

If I were Puerto Rican and unemployed, I'd be living in Floriday too! The government handouts are wonderful! It ties in to the liberal's basic rule "It is much better to spend other people's money". Not sure why Obama would worry about getting that vote, but for a vacation Puerto Rico is very nice, and that is always a priority concern when the Obama's travel! The golf is amazing there too! I've been there!
That comment was so inane..not worthy of a reply.
I know it's been a political axiom for years--"All politics is local"--But I submit that does not hold this time. Trump, Palin, Bachmann...they never bring up local issues. heck, they don't even bring up he economy (another axiom that doesn't apply this year). All they do is wrap themselves up in a flag and pound it into potential voters heads that they're the "Real Americans"...a vote for them is a vote for the Constitution, family values, and a vote against that Muslim in the WH. Birthers don't care about their local politics--they care about getting rid of the Kenyan.
The albatross around the GOP's neck (the kill Medicare plan) has, and will continue to, galvanize the seniors. That's not a local issue, it's a Grandma & Grandpa issue. Unless you live in the Hamptons, taxing the rich is not a local issue. Getting OBL is not a local issue. This election will be about national concerns. And there's nothing wrong with that.
I agree with mydodgson. The right-wing doesn't offer ideas on tackling issues because they have one solution, and one solution only: leave it all up to the free market. Never mind that the free market prefers young people over older folks, urban dwellers over rural citizens, students from wealthy families over kids in poorer neighborhoods, profits over environmental protection, lower wages over good salaries and benefits; the free market solution to healthcare, education, job creation and the environment is always the right one. That is the Republican message these days.
The negative reactions to President Obama’s Middle East speech are ridiculous and unfounded! First of all, leaving off “with mutually agreed land swaps” and going with just “based on 1967 borders” is completely misleading. But you’d think he’d broken a long-standing peace between Israel and Palestine. Everybody wants to give their two cents on what Obama should or shouldn’t have said, but the facts are, if any of them knew how to broker peace between Israel and Palestine, don’t you think that would’ve been accomplished a few decades ago?
Just more reasons that Obama and Hillary should not mess with foreign policy.
Neither of them have any background in this area and can only cause damage. Obama is better off treating foreign policy like he treats our financial budget crisis....do nothing.
If peace is still elusive after decades of back-and-forth, why do you think the current administration is any less effective than all its predecessors? Did you just wake up this morning and decide you know exactly how peace should be achieved? Well, share the wealth! I'm sure your expertise would be valued!
"Bitchy Bachmann" and "Puppet Palin" think that G8 is a Bingo Number. If you see these two mental patients going around yelling "Bingo!" You will know what they mean America. The "Bimbo" and the "Bitch" Bus Tour think that G8 is an highway exit number. "Bitchy Bachmann" has difficulty reading a Road Map much less a World Map. "Puppet Palin" can see these different countries for her house. This is a very funny fact America!
