In DC yesterday, Republican presidential hopeful Tim Pawlenty called the House GOP budget plan -- which phases out Medicare in its current form for those under 55 -- "positive," but said that he'd be unveiling his own plan soon.
But while in New Hampshire today, Pawlenty went a step further, saying he'd sign that House Republican budget plan into law, if given the choice.
"As president I'll have my own plan," he said. "If I can't have that, and the bill came to my desk and I had to choose between signing or not, Congressman Ryan's plan, of course I'd sign it."
Later in the day, Pawlenty fired off this Tweet on Medicare:
@BarackObama sorry to interrupt the European pub crawl, but what was your Medicare plan?

Pawlenty, who?
That's 'Mr. Good N. Pawlenty' to you Buzz!
Sorry, I couldn't resist! ;o)
PS: Good thing I picked up my haz-mat suit last night! Sure came in handy today!
Exactly.
But it is an interesting addition to this years "Republican Pander Off." I thought Romney would take it again easy but he is really falling behind.
Feisty (Feisty? lmfao!) let me put Obama's budget plan in perspective. (see below) It is explained in the simplest terms I can make it so you can understand. Simply stated it sucks .... we should all encourage BO to back off and give the Republicans a chance to balance the damn thing! Because the democrats don't have a clue! This isn't funny anymore, because millions of Americans no longer have confidence in this administration!
Barack Obama's Budget Rules
1. If Obama calls deficit spending an investment, then it must not cost anything.
2. Cutting a billion dollars from the military justifies giving a trillion dollars to bankers.
3. When Obama sends a spending proposal to Congress, it doesn't count if they want to spend even more.
4. If Obama reduces a proposed increase in spending, he counts it as a budget cut.
5. When Obama eliminates our deductions, the higher payments we make aren't a tax increase.
6. Obama's budget is like his golf game. He eventually winds up in the hole.
7. Higher taxes are Obama's way to stop you from thriving too fast.
8. Reading an omnibus tax bill before signing it is bad luck.
9. If an entitlement program is off budget, it's free.
10. Back room deals rock
Potus is not a Job-in training position....!
miked, good points!!
Like they did LAST time they were in charge? LMFAO!
Not a chance..
Obama and Michelle Antoinette are too busy play "Rock Stars" to give a dam about the deficit, the Economy, Gas, unemployment!
WHY? Because WE pay for their 40 worldwide trips in less then 2 yrs. I'll bet Martha's Vineyard is already booked for the 3rd year in August, and Hawaii is already booked for the 3rd year at Christmas!
Feisty........glad you are so happy! Lucky Girl!
Miked and Patty, you two are idiots who have nothing but hate in your hearts. I pity the people who have to be around you two.
Tim Pawlenty is the kind of brave, innovative, serious leader that will never raise taxes on the rich, or corporations but will make the hard choice of turning his back on the old and sick. Tim Pawlenty is the kind of republican candidate that will have his head handed to him by his own dear grandmother. What does he not understand about 80-20 polling. Go for it T-Pot like I said see if you can even get your old aunt Tilly to vote for you.
Gov. Pawlenty's mean-spiritedness will certainly cost him the election. Does he really think a meeting of the G-8 members is a pub crawl? Medicare is already a plan. Does Gov. Pawlenty mean "What will you do about Medicare," and if so, he should start reading the Affordable Care Act. This is also the governor who won't cut defense spending, only wants to "slow its growth." Perhaps if the Republicans could start cutting some of their own favorite spending it would encourage the Democrats to do the same.
Why don't you start by actually reading the Act. You and no one else knows exactly what he will do as POTUS. It is amazing how so many Liberals are experts on Conservatism.
Unlike you, who claims to be an expert on EVERYTHING! LMFAO!
What profession are you impersonating today? DO tell...
Why should liberals figure it out when "conservatives" can't figure out what conservatism means to them.
Doesn't the PPACA actually defund Medicare by a half a trillion dollars?
Feisty (Feisty? lmao), you really don't have a clue about the conservative effort! However, you do enjoy using smear tactics, mean spirited comments, and name calling... and anyone who happens be slightly right of your far left wacko political stance are your targets! Your attack on In The Middle is just more evidence! With friends like you Obama can now understand why the country has become so poloarized....
What a sorry, bitter life you must live! I think a nickname like snarly, may be more appropriate for you than Feisty (Feisty?)
What's up with THAT? Stutter much?
One more time to YOU & the rest of the wingers - IF YOU DON'T LIKE WHAT I HAVE TO SAY - DON'T READ WHAT I WRITE!
Capiche?
My point exactly Feisty (Feisty? s/b Snarly!). Thanks for making my day. Il tuo ego e fuori controllo, capishe?
Although 'touchy, quarrelsome' could be a good definition of Feisty! lmao!
T-Paw McGraw had a plan but it was panned. From lack of detail, it was derailed.
Now he'll vote for this concrete boot of a bill that will sink a campaign that was already in the sink from lack of personality. No good policies and a record of financial gamesmanship in MN that would put Bernie Madoff to shame IS the cause of their current deficit. You just can't give away the store and float a state's business on a promise (lie) and a prayer. That's his reality and he has to live with it; not run from it.
Truth T-Paw, Truth. Isn't that what you're about?
T-Paw McGraw.... luv it
Slow-draw McGraw?
Outlaw McGraw?
Notaclue McGraw?
Hasn't he changed his mind several times on this. The last time I heard him talk he would not commit one way or another but kept saying he will have his own plan.
Somebody must of tweaked him a bit - Rush? Hannity? O'Reilly? some other GOP??
Hi Elise,
NIce to see you here, hope all is well in one of my favorite cities. This Tim Pawlenty is really a dumb son-of-a-gun (cleaned that up nicely, but you catch my drift) he either is not interested in winning, and if I had his poll numbers, I'd a quit already, or he thinks we are stupid. How could anyone, serious about the Presidential Election make such a statement?
That will be another out of the running, oh well, Sarah is gearing up to entertain us.
Keep posting Elise, have a great weekend, hope you have some extra time off to enjoy it.
well, there goes his chances of being elected. ooops.
Another Republican lemming volunteers to jump off the cliff!
Are they all goofs ???? or are they just pretending to be complete idiots???? Just a thought.
Is he a complete idiot or what. The so called courageous plan, Ryan must have drew the short straw to put it out, maybe Pawlenty did not get the memo.
But it's so easy to be courageous when you pass the 10billion dollar price tag on to another generation.
Barb you got me laughing now. There is a Woody Allen movie where they plan a jailbreak and at the scheduled time the Woody Allen character is out there all alone and of course gets caught and dragged back into prison. Later he says "where were you guys" and they tell him "we forgot to tell you, we called it off" Woody Allen and Tim Pawlenty I'm having fun now!
10 billion no problem, piece of cake, that is just 5 weeks worth of our wars. 5 more weeks of war or 10 billion dollars, its that simple, you won't have a new generation in 5 weeks I guarantee it Frank.
Silly me, I'd forgotten how simple math can be when using the conservative method.
These people are totally clueless. They absolutely don't care what the people want. Time to get out the tar and feathers.
Tar and Feathers, Oh I've always wanted to try that. - David Vitter
Forrest Grump==But wouldn't that make a mess of my diapers? David Vitter
Medicare is running out of money...to wait until the whole program goes belly-up because there are no more revenues to pay for it, those that receive Medicare benefits might have to come up with a little more money to pay for their healthcare. Otherwise, Medicare will no longer exist. The problem is that many people think that someone else should pay for their healthcare. Personal responsibility be damned.
juanita, we would probably have enough revenue, and certainly wouldn't have near as much Nat'l Debt if Republicans would give up on Supply Side "trickle down" economics. Up until Obama, only Republican Presidents Reagan, and the Bush family have added to the Nat'l Debt in the past 70 years. Take their Nat'l Debt away and suddenly we're at $4.5-5 trillion instead of $14 trillion. Why don't you do a search on Supply Side Economics and ask the search engine if good ole Trickle Down really works?
Also, it wouldn't hurt if about 15 million illegals would elect to return home and quit using Medicaid as their primary health insurance.
Muy Bueno Juanita,
Tim Pawlenty is one of the responsible adults in the room. he sees, like so many of us, that doing nothing about our financial crisis is not an opton. (unless your a delusional liberal).
We need a real Leader in our White House. Tim Pawlenty is looking more and more like THE ONE.
Hey Eddie: WHY are you guys always complaining about debt/deficit crisis that the GOP DELIBERATELY created????? Remember, in 1981, the debt was less than $1T! AT the end of bush's last budget, it was $11.9T!! That shows that the last 3 GOP presidents signed TWENTY deficit riddled budgets that added over $11T to the debt. Hell., Bush left Obama with a $1.3T deficit BEFORE he was even sworn in!!!!!
The GOP is complaining about balancing the budget without EVER having produced one........ or even PROPOSED one!!
Ryan actually did the country a service. It exposed the GOP as the party that endangered the national security of this country by running up a HUGE amount of debt just so they take away benefits from the less fortunate and give that money to the MOST fortunate-- the corporation, bankers and Wall ST. moguls!!
That is the most treacherous plan Ive EVER seen!!! I think republcians have forfeited their right to participate in the political affairs of this country for a very long time by deliberately putting us in mortal danger of financial collapse!
Thank you , Pawlenty ... now I can strike a line through your name as well ... another Republican volunteers for Kamikazi duty.
Next?!
Ha ha , Good analogy Mac
The democrats have not put through a budget in OVER 755 DAYs! Where is your budget senate,,,house....hussain obama? You lie that the ryan plan wants to eliminate Medicare but no WORD from you socialists libs about how he cut 500 billion from medicare for unconstitutional obamacare ! Where are your budgets or are you afraid to show your true intentions before an election?
Thunder, Ryan's plan effectively privatizes Medicare, something the GOP has been planning to do since the reagan years! That is why adopted the strategy of "starve the beast" in the early 80s and deliberately create this debt crisis! Their goal is to privatize ALL entitlement programs and funnel all that money into the hands of bankers, Wall ST and corporate interests! How can you support a party that endangered national security just so they could take benefits FROM the less fortunate and give them to the MOST fortunate???
thunder:
[...ryan plan wants to eliminate Medicare but no WORD from you socialists libs about how he cut 500 billion from medicare for unconstitutional obamacare !]
First, "Obamacare" as you so lovingly refer to it is not unconstitutional, and hasn't been deemed so by SCOTUS. Just because you think it is, or Newt Gingrich says it is, does not make it so. Newt Gingrich will tell you he has a 12 inch penis just to get elected...
If you've been paying attention, the information readily available to all of us says that the $500 billion in cuts are due to reducing, and eventually eliminating, Medicare fraud and by doing away with that corporate welfare program known as Medicare Advantage, as well as Medicare part D, which was nothing but a boon for the pharmaceutical companies that have been ripping us and the insurance companies off for decades.
It would seem, given these easily verifiable references, that eliminating any type of fraud and doing away with a welfare program (albiet a corporate welfare program) would be widely accepted?
mickey......
1) NO benefits were cut from Medicare!
2) Obamacare has not been declared unconstitutional!! Interestingly enough, neither had Romneycare, after almost 5 years, which has the very same "must buy" provision. Now dont go on about states being different--- NO state legislation may violate the US Constitution! BTW, when Obamacare does reach the USSC, you can count on at least one thing: Scalia and Thomas are bought and paid for by the ring wing extremists.
The Affordable Care Act cut money from Medicare Advantage. Those who thought they were getting better coverage by paying more to Medicare Advantage found out that this was not true. Medicare Advantage was a subsidy the federal government gave to the insurance companies.
That is what is cut form "ObamaCare." Just as the subsidies for oil companies should be cut.
When I think of Pawlenty, a vision of a bridge laying in a river with thirteen people dead crosses before my eyes. Did Pawlenty save money by not doing maintenance on that bridge? I think so.
Hey thunder, it's time for your meds. Then you can go to the tea bagger meeting.
job1,,,class one again from a socialist lib(never expected anything different)! Would rather be a tea bagger,,,then a teabaggie!!!
"The democrats have not put through a budget in OVER 755 DAYs!"
The only politicians with courage, leadership and Truth on their side are Repubs like Paul Ryan and Tim Pawlenty. The American people spoke in 2010 and we will again in 2012.
President Obama wins again in 2012.
The 2012 elections are going to be like 2008, with a very large record group of Democrat Progressives voting.
So, this will be a great opportunity to get rid of the Tea People –Republicans in office.
People have to remember that only 37% of the eligible voters voted in 2010 and that is not going to happen in 2012.
I just love watching you lie to yourself job1,,,say it enough times and you will really believe it!
"The problem is that many people think that someone else should pay for their healthcare. Personal responsibility be damned."
Hey Juanita, you said it with common sense. Bravo. Simply put and to the point.
["The problem is that many people think that someone else should pay for their healthcare. Personal responsibility be damned."]
And this statement is simply not true. Everybody will pay something, and if you bothered to do some basic research you would know this. The statement is knee-jerk reaction that most people barely know anything about, except what they are being told. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH. You owe it to yourself to understand the bill enough to make an educated decision.
MIckey, guesss you're not a Romney supporter eh??
And while Obama is paying for all my health care, he can buy my gas, and pay my rent too.
I'll vote for the hand that feeds me.....pure and simple.
Mickey, So true.
Ryan's Medicare Plan Would Be a Windfall for Insurance Companies

Yes America! Progressive Power is not shocked by "Timmy!" He grew up in South Park, and moved to Minnesota to become Governor. "Timmy!" Has no poltical need to support the elderly. His record is very clear, and can be read on line at anytime. Medicare in the economic eyes of. "Timmy!" Should be handed over to the for profit large insurance companies. If "Timmy!" Becomes President he will bring all his friends from South Park to join his Presidential Cabinet. I wonder who "Timmy" will pick for his White House Team?? Any ideas America? I wonder if. "Timmy!!" Will have to give up his position in the band??
