Palin to embark on bus tour this weekend

Sarah Palin announced an East Coast bus tour for Memorial Day Weekend, raising questions about whether it's a prelude to a presidential run. NBC's Andrea Mitchell reports.

First came the news that Sarah Palin purchased a home in Arizona. Then came word of the glowing two-hour documentary about her record as Alaska governor. And then it was reported that she re-hired two key aides.

Now here's another sign Palin might be eyeing a White House bid: She's embarking on a bus tour this weekend.

A Palin spokesperson tells NBC News:

“Starting this weekend Sarah Palin will embark on a one nation tour of historical sites that were key to the formation survival and growth of the United States of America. The tour will originate in Washington DC. and will proceed north up the East Coast."

Of course, this doesn't mean she eventually will run. But it certainly stokes speculation about her intentions.

Does she even know of any historical sites? Maybe Bachmann can show her the way, she seems to know alot about history - not.

Feisty.....you are so funny and quick witted. It will be another shiny ball for the media to follow. They are tripping overthemselves trying to get out the news. She will laugh all the way to the bank.

Do you suppose this decision will create a cat fight between her and Bachmann, I'd pay to see that.

Karl Rove must be pulling out what's left of his hair. Here he thought he and his GOP powerbrokers had successfully gotten her off the stage and back to Alaska.

I don't think she'll run. She's just doing what she does best, stirring up things. Plus she loves attention and is in need of ga-ga media spotlight, money for her PAC, and to be back in the limelight which puts her in demand for high-paying speaking engagements. She's just using people again for personal gain. But with Palin, I wouldn't bet money either way.

A movie? "The Undefeated"? How does being on a losing presidential ticket (and being most of the reason for that loss), quitting halfway through your term as governor and then using Twitter to hide from unscripted media events qualify as 'undefeated'?

I like fictional movies as much as the next person, but I think this one may be stretching the concept...

I cannot image one person with a brain, who would take Sarah Palin seriously. She has the Tea Party, to follow her because what remains of the tea leaves, are incapable of an original thought. I did not agree with the the philosophy of the Tea Party, when it began its grass roots effort, I could understand their contention. I believe, they wanted less or no government and no taxes. But what remains of the Tea Party is a group of people who believe they have earned the right to have it all but want to deny a decent life, for anyone else.

Palinis a user. She takes what she wants, from whomever she wants and then, tries to destroy what is left. She is a parrot and a parasite. She is milking the system, even though her popularity is waning, some will continue to follow her because she is the basis for their skewed beliefs. She is not intelligent but she is sly. She is a cheerleader but her team is losing. She inspires no one but talks the talk. She will continue to say the same volatile, hate mongering words, receive her applause and then shake her pompoms and exit the room. She may inspire some to hitch their star to her wagon but I have never quite understood what that saying means. And if I do not understand, you can bet Ms Palin has not got a clue. Face it, she still want something for nothing. The something is money and the nothing is............ while Sarah!

As a resident of the northeast, that liberal bastion of non-Americans, I shudder to think what she will classify as historic sites. But she should avoid CT where I live all together. After she said real Americans aren't the liberal elites in the northeast, but rather real Americans according to her, only live in the Midwest, people here were very confused. Maybe she doesn't realize several towns, like the one I have lived in my entire life, were settled before there was a United States of America. My town was settled in 1709. The whole northeast is a historical site, so that might be very confusing for her.

Anyone wonder if folks like Palin and The Donald are intentional side shows, so that whoever ends up throwing their hat in the ring appears impossibly sane by comparison?

I hear a lot of republicans say that its democrats who are the only ones interested in palin, but if thats true...why do the republicans keep trotting her out at THEIR events, events WE are not at? If there's no appetite for Palin amongst republicans, there'd be no room for her on the stage...let alone in front of a mic and being PAID to be there.

Im sorry, but republicans need to own this one...she's a sideshow, pandering to the crazies...and drumming up fear amongst the sane in her party that she might represent them...and all the while, making independents think "what are they doing?" only to be assured with a more logical and sane pick in the primaries that republicans arent "that dumb".

It distracts from asking real question from the real candidates, which is exactly what they want. Less time for voters to know what they are actually voting for, all they'll really know is this "im just glad its not palin or donald trump"...

really, its a brilliant strategy considering they have no real plan on how to fix this nation, a nation they agree is broke in a variety of ways.

I am dying with curiosity over what Palin considers to be historically important.

Plymouth Rock?

The Pilgrims?

Powhatan?

Pocahantus?

Philadelphia?

I'll bet we hit the Boston Tea Party loud and long.

Ben Franklin?

Lexington?

Concord?

Bunker Hill?

Valley Forge?

The Alamo?

The Triangle Trade (Molasses, Rum, Slaves)? Huh?

The Iroquois League?

THE WHAT? THE Iroquois League? What's that? Triangle Trade? How was that important to the formation and founding of our country and our government?

I think it will be very interesting to see what she believes to be historically significant and exactly WHAT about those choices make them important to her? Should be very interesting. I guess there will be a two hour special on Fox.

You're completely missing the upside here.

Sarah Palin will finally get a lesson in American History . . . at least the trivia version. It's been fairly apparent up to this point she is totally ignorant of . . . well . . . everything and anything.

Maybe next she can have Jimmy Carter give her a physics lesson and a workshop on nuclear energy. Short version, of course. Beats having to stress her attention span.

Getcha Sarah Palin itinerary right heah:

Tour starts in Arizona. Once Mexican property, stolen by illegal immigrants. Something about Gadsden. Moves to New Mexico. New Mexicans legal. Old Mexicans illegal. Then to Texas for a history lesson that's being revised this very moment. Off to Louisiana, a very big place once upon a time with a big city that God hates. Heading north towards Oklahoma where nobody knows a damned thing about history. Very good, because by now Palin is on fact overload having crammed three or four facts into her head including the one that Indians gave away their oil-rich lands to white folks as a giant housewarming gift.

North to Kansas, a great free state where Separate but Equal meets John Brown and there really is a Bible and Rifle Church. Really, honest. Even Bachmann couldn't make that up. Then she goes east to Colorado. Nope, not west, 'cause Palin says Colorado is east over near the Brigham Young college and the Smithian Tabernacle and polygamists. Hey, this is about history. The salamander is in Pennsylvania.

Johnny Horton says, "North to Alaska", but Palin says you'd need to take the AlCan Highway and that's a damned socialist program. She'd rather die, so she goes to Minnesota to meet the great Governor Pawlenty and the world's most renowned historian. Need I mention her name? Then to Iowa to meet the world's finest extremists who historically haven't been doing too well picking the winner of Presidential contests. (I have it on good authority, Torquemada is only a few points ahead of Palin.)

Tour stops for 15 minutes here. Traditional family values must take precedence. Calls home and asks about Trig, Trick, Track, and Trump - who'd a thunk it? On the road again. Off to Ohio. Kasich heads welcoming committee, but finds legislature has stripped funds from tourism board. Same in Wisconsin.

Mainstream media at this point says, "Hey this is truly freaking lame. We're outa here.

Palin vanishes.

Tod,

You are so right about Fiesty, not an original thought in her little head. But she can sure demonize anyone who doesn't agree with the progressive/liberal mind set. Pretty sick isn't it? The typical progressive/liberal way is to not debate just demonize. I feel sorry for most Americans because we are going to see the left at their finest from now until the elections next year. NO SUBSTANCE just HATE. And when it is all over and they have lost their majority in the Senate and the White House it will get worse.

Stand back everyone, you don't want to be too close when this gets collapsed.

        lisa s,

I agree. I don't think Palin will seek the Presidency this go around - I think she is moving to Arizona to seek a U.S. Senate seat. (Remember Hillary Clinton did the same thing ... moved to New York and then ran for U.S. Senator and won, then later made a bid for the Presidency herself.)

This could all be a part of Palin's stategy. I think she knows she cannot beat Obama, but if she plays it right and can get voted into the Senate, then she will make a grab for the Oval Office in 2016.

Personally, I hope she doesn't even get elected to the Senate, and I hope Arizona remembers what Alaska already knows: Sarah Palin is a Quitter. When the game isn't going just the way she likes, she quits.

        #1.44 - Thu May 26, 2011 7:44 PM EDT

Feisty, so enjoy your barbs. Keep it up. As for Palin, who knows what that grizzly mom will do. It's hard to guess what way she'll jump. I wonder if she believes polls? She should. The ones predicting her DEFEAT were right on. Republicans, you had better hope she doesn't run. If she gets the nomination, President Obama will carry 49 states, which will be just fantastic.

Tod, the green color, I guess, would be for envy. You know, the saying "green with envy." Or it could be the color of someones face when they are really, really sick. Either one works.

However, it will be good for Ms. Palin to take a history tour. God knows she needs further education; just wish she'd take Bachmann with her. And would I love to see those two "debate" one another. That would be priceless, but I'd pay to see it if I had to!

One thing we are all over looking, Palin still works for FOX news. She cannot be considering running for president, while actively employed by FOX. I cannot call it a news station.) Roger Ailes had his other "political" hacks, resign when they said they were going to run. Sarah is still on the payroll and she is not about to give away the easy money. Heck, I would like to make some easy money like she has. All I would have to do is, repeat the same things over and over. Get this, I am willing to bet my experience as a nurse, would be of actual value, to FOX worshipers. Oh, I must confess, I was listening to Lawrence O'Donnell tonight. He actually made the point about Sarah, continuing to work for FOX. I would like to take the credit but this may be difficult to believe, I am an honest person. Will she actually be on the Bus, or Flying to the Bus & getting on it just before it arrives at that Location?

That way she can get off & embrace the LooneyTunes who Actually thought she was on the Bus for the entire ride!

No Andrea & Mark, what this stokes is the MSM's continued Ignorance to be "Carnival Barkers", as with your 2 threads already today about Man On Dog Santorum!

“Starting this weekend Sarah Palin will embark on a one nation tour of historical sites that were key to the formation survival and growth of the United States of America. The tour will originate in Washington DC. and will proceed north up the East Coast."

It will be interesting to see what sites she thinks are important. Ronald Reagan's birthplace might be at the top of the list. Her trip may provide much material for Steven Colbert and John Stewart.

Beverly, wouldn't you love to see her debate the other GOP candidates? I would especially enjoy her, with her tossed word salad, and Newt, who speaks 'in tongues' with references so obscure that only he can guess what he is talking about. I don't know if Sarah and Newt think in ways obscure to us ordinary mortals, or if they toss the words deliberately so that the words can be interpreted as whatever their followers want them to mean that day. Then the next day, when the political winds shift, Sarah and Newt can insist that what they ACTUALLY meant was something completely different.

Just for my personal understanding, why do Democrats hate Sarah Palin so much? She is far from the only conservative in the world, but in my adult life, I have not seen this level of hatred for any politician, Democrat, Republican or otherwise (and there have been sone real winners in my lifetime, too). Is there a logical reason for the hate? Lay some education on me, America. Just please keep the language clean. :-)

Hate? I see a lot of laughter here, not hate. She's no threat to Democrats. Come on...we're a big country...we've got problems, differences...but someone who is this ignorant of history, ignorant of her own country, is going to position herself as an actual candidate for national office in the 21st century from ANY party?? (Her own boss at FOX Roger Ailes said she was about the dumbest person he'd ever met). It's just embarrassing as an American...I get unsophisticated and not Ivy League and all that...but someone who doesn't even read a newspaper? Doesn't know anything about domestic or foreign policy? Hasn't even been that engaged in her own state? I don't care who you are. What other choice do you have but to laugh?

Well, I can't speak for the others, but for me it was the RNC convention speech. She enjoyed making fun of Obama W A Y too much. I know they all do it- it's normal for those settings, but she was way too over the top. That, and that damned sing-songy voice that drips with sarcasm. That, and her inability to take a hit and let it go, without constantly refering back to it and playing that 'poor me' garbage without end.

Honestley, I dont think anybody hates her, I am the most liberal old woman in S.C. and I couldnt hate her. I feel most people. think she is so unquailfied that it is a disgrace that she put herself out there to act like she knows anything at all about running a country like ours. Most Americans dont hate her, but it does make us ashamed that she thinks she could be President.

I don't exactly hate her. She drives independents to the Democrats.

However, I do despise her personally because she makes a mockery of my country, it's values, it's principles and she is so incredibly anti-thought, anti-thinking, anti-knowledge. She appeals to the shallowness in people, to greed, to foolishness and to returning to a nation that never existed and never will.

If you once thought well of her, perhaps you were fooled but if you still do, I think little of you. You are a thoughtless, mindless minion.

First of all, she is not qualified to be President of the United States.

Second, look at Sister Sarah's past interviews and non-factual statements (lies) she makes in every interview. (Fact Checks) Also, go to a Palin rally, which I have done and check out the signs and talk to some of here followers, who recite some of the most unbelievable garbage they have been fed. It’s scary.

Most of all she is a major contributor to the dumbing down of America.

When a political party says this woman and Michelle Bachmann are the best out there, it's totally humilitating to women. A large majority of us are smart and resent an idiot like Palin pretending to represent women. She is a joke at best and a very bad role model at the worst. Hated - no. A joke - decidedly.

GOP: Ok, you introduce yourself to a national audience as a VP candidate for the first time, sit for your first round of network interviews and you can not name a single, not one, US Supreme Court decision you object to after saying the Supreme Court needs an overhaul. Then you go on Glen Beck's show and say America need to stand behind "our North Korea allies". You tell a nation of 400 million Americans that the only "real" Americans are in pockets here and there in small towns in this country...You campaign against single-payer health care and then you admit that your own family traveled to Canada for it's treatments despite your denunciation of national health care as "socialism" that establishes "death panels." You tout your own "family values" as superior and a model for the country with a teen daughter who then launches a career as an unwed mother spokewoman for abstinence and a son in law that could rival any family member in history for being hell-bent on humiliating the family. You give birth to a son who you say you considered aborting and then CHOSE to carryfull term, then turn around and fight against women having any choice in their own pregnancies, since that decision is best left in the hands of the state....You call the current President's policy on Israel "abhorrent", not for it's political ramifications but because the President of the United States is failing to understand BIBLICAL Prohesy? No, this isn't about disagreeing with her politically, although that's easy enough. This is about a candidate who thinks she can be President who her own PARTY is running away from her in droves because of her stupidity.

Sorry GOP Undecided, I don't hate her, I don't dislike her personally. What I disliked her doing was her red-meat, prejudicial word tossing; her disregard of the truth. I'm female and feel that she isn't representative of the many intelligent women who could run for president and succeed. Palin is smart but incurious and much like former President Bush, she's mentally lazy and doesn't care about what doesn't interest her. There's nothing wrong with being disinterested or mentally lazy unless you want to be President of the United States. To be President it requires learning about and being willing to get involved even in things one doesn't find interesting. The Bush presidency is proof of why being mentally lazy can cause such harm to the country. I felt her selection as VP set the hopes of American women winning the presidency back a decade if not more.

If you can stand one more - at the risk of sounding like an echo chamber here, it's not hate to me, either - there's just not enough there to be worthy of hate. For me, it's always been a sort of incredulity that anyone so simplistic in her views and such an intellectual lightweight could ever have been embraced so much for doing so little. To this day, I can't remember a single policy she ever detailed on the campaign trail, just that she and McCain were all "mavericky" and were going to do stuff differently. And to follow up on what Jody said, in a way I guess I resent her for setting back the idea of women being taken seriously as candidates for high office, though in all fairness, I blame McCain for choosing her in the first place without knowing much if anything about her - as a woman, it seemed like a blatant attempt to pick up female voters disgruntled by Hillary Clinton's loss to Obama - as if we'd vote for any woman just because she was a woman. But hate? No. Total bewilderment? You betcha.....in any case, thank YOU for starting the discussion, and good luck with your decision. it's already been a looooong election year!

Marty - I felt the same recognition as Feisty mentions above as soon as I saw the name "Marty" - if that is indeed you, then welcome back!

I don't waste the emotion of hate on anyone. It's counterproductive to the naturally happy, well adjusted person I am. I can also assure you since I went all the way in school, I don't need to use derogatory language to convey my disdain for someone who hasn't contributed a single positive note to the political discourse in this country. If she offered solutions instead of hate, I might actually listen to her without immediately feeling the need to reach for my Excedrin.

I see you grappling with what exactly it is that triggers near universal negative approval figures for one candidate, while another candidate, equally partisan, is tolerated.

Most people recognize what motivates Palin is opportunism. Basically, she couldn't care less whether conservative policies are enacted, she is in it for her own aggrandizement. We have not fallen so far in our country yet, that we accept political leaders who are strictly in it for their own advancement. Every politician is ambitious, but only the most craven wouldn't care if their rhetoric leads to end-of-life talks, for instance, being twisted into the concept of "death panels."

I don't think "hate" is the word. Like the others, I feel ridicule is more appropriate. I can think of several reasons why Demoscrats -- and many Republicans I know -- alike, believe that Sarah Palin is a poor choice for President:
#1 She has encouraged/promoted hatred of people who disagree with her. How? By posting a map with actual shooting targets on them of folks she disagrees with. I hold her at least partially responsible for what happened to the people who were massacred in Arizona. I don't care if you're a Democrat or a Republican, encouraging other people to hate is unacceptable
#2 She is ignorant, thereforce inclined to bigotry and racism. The videos posted on youtube of her dealings with fanatics are telling
#3 She is an extreme zealot when it comes to her religious beliefs which she has tried to impose on others, like at the library in Alaska where she tried to get certain books banned
#4 She is not well educated -- she knows almost nothing of American history, not to speak of other countries. She would be a disaster as a president with her low level of knowledge of anything unrelated to Alaska
#5 She has a small-town mentality and it shows in almost everything she says or thinks
#6 She was trying to impose her beliefs about sexual abstinence on so many -- all the while her own daughter is an unwed teen

#7Her inflated ego prevents her from being gracious -- she is similar to The D in that way. Do we really want an egomaniac running our country? She is a poor role model for women and encourages the "women are ditzy" image held by some men, and her focus on appearance encourages the American public to pay more attention to the style of her eyeglasses than to her hatemongering actions

#8 She is a polarizing rather than a unifying force. Team play is some of what women do best: she is terrible at it.

Is there anything else that needs to be said to disqualify her from the Presidency? She has none of the qualities that one would like to see in a president. This is why she is not liked by Democrats, but it's also why she's not liked by many Republicans. I have to be honest, though: I would like her to run against Obama because she wouldn't have a chance in h... against him.

The woman is nothing more than an attention seeker; who get's off on people reacting to her off color jokes and bad humor.

This person couldn't even do a full term to lead the State of Alaska; for which it has the least population in our country.

So how in the hell will she be able to lead the most powerful country in the world?

No chance in hell will this person even come remotely close to being the POTUS.

She has to realize John McCain used her to get votes...not because she was qualified to lead anything.

Palins ego is much bigger than her ability- some one should explain that to her...so she can stay away and stop embarassing herself.

                            TRUTH- not Crap

Thank you and GOD BLESS AMERICA

Unlike Obama she seems to focus on this country. Where is he now... not sure but I am certain he is lecturing some where on how evil America is.

My memory is not what it used to be. Will you please post some examples of some of these lectures from the past couple of years? I mean the ones where he says we are evil?

                            Thanks in advance, navyvet.

Yup, that's right. That's why she is just starting to learn history and geography. A kindergartner knows more about this country than she does.

What's the matter is your FOX NOISE Channel not coming in? They monitor every move the President makes.

Sarah Palin focuss on herself and only on herself. She has not in her entire career said one thing that is helpful to this country, that is a good course or a good path by any conceivably rational concept conservative or liberal.

President Obama has worked hard and accomplished a lot. He would have accomplished more without the Republicans pointless interference. The Republican party has one focus only ... serve it's big business and wealthy masters. If you are a multi-millionaire, continue on your selfish course but if you are not believe me you are being tricked into enslaving yourself. It's really that simple.

Another Palin lie. Come on people wake up. She is not qualified to be President of the United States.

However, I could see her as a manager of a rest stop area.

Well focus on book sales and her own bank account, surely. Oh and Obama? He's at the G-7 summit. (by the time Palin understood what that was and where Europe was, the party would be over.)

Well, today happens to be the first day of the annual G8 conference...President Obama is meeting with Prime Minister Cameron of the UK, President Medvedev of Russia, Prime Minister Harper of Canada, President Sarkozy of France, Prime Minister Berlusconi of Italy, Prime Minister Kan of Japan and Chancellor Merkel of Germany. It's kind of a big deal.

The rest of the week was planned state visits to Ireland and the UK.
