Cantor wants Ryan in race for president

Despite Paul Ryan’s attempt on NBC’s Meet the Press to shut the door on speculation that he might run for president in 2012, he got one high-level possible supporter today.

At a press conference on Capitol Hill today, Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) said he’d like to see Ryan (R-WI) run.

“Sure, I think Paul is about real leadership,” Cantor said in response to a question of whether he would like to see the congressman make a bid. “I think that's what this public so desperately wants to do right now. They want to see Washington that will lead. They don't want to see individuals dismiss the current problems as something that we can sweep under the rug. These are problems that go to the very existence of programs that are so important to people. Yet, somehow the other side castigates, us for putting a plan out there that is responsible. What is the choice, their choice thus far has been bankruptcy of these programs and rationing of healthcare.”

Cantor’s comments come as many in the GOP are disappointed with the current crop of 2012 candidates. When asked about Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels’ decision not to run, Cantor said, “Certainly I think Mitch Daniels would have been a great candidate. He had his decision to make, and he made it.”

Cantor made sure to praise the current field as a “strong candidates” but mentioned it’s “early still.”

When asked whether any GOP 2012 nominee should totally embrace Ryan’s budget plan, a plan that includes a significant altering of Medicare, Cantor said, “I'm looking for the presidential candidates to embrace our formula in the Ryan Budget. I'm looking for them to embrace a leadership roles that makes tough decisions."

Cantor also made sure to point out he himself would not be a candidate for president in 2012.

I wonder if Eric Cantor is related to that comedian Eddy Cantor, that went around singing "Goody, Goody" Sounds like he might be.

The ONLY things on the Republicans' "table" are Social Security and Medicare which Republicans have been trying to do steal from and then, after they take all the money, shut it down without paying us our money back.

Ryan and the GOP have absolutely refused to tax the rich.

So, why is it that Republicans think that average Working Americans are the only ones who are supposed to pay taxes, and rich people and wealthy oil companies should not?

Because nearly 50% of those "Working Americans" are dumb enough to vote Republiclown.

And we should listen to this guy because....like most republicans he sees the US through his own ridiculous rose colored glasses, you know the ones where republicans control everything and the middle class is at the mercy of these guys. These republicans have no values and no morals. To imply that Paul Ryan is "courageous" is outrageous. He is ambitious. He saw a way to appeal to the lunatic fringe of the republicans and he took it. However, he stupidly didn't realize how many people believe in medicare. I hope this party self destructs. it is toxic to the American people. Americans need to listen to these guys and listen to the morning pundits. If you are watching a show that routinely brings one republican after another on their show to slam the President and the administration and never really gives time to the other side, please change the channel. I recently switched from cnbc from 6 to 9 to CNN's American morning. What a refreshing change. They certainly present both sides of the story. Americans need to stop listening to the Cantors and Ryans of this country and get both sides of the story and then decide who you believe. As far as i am concerned, Cantor is just another right wing lunatic, looking to pay back his corporate donors.

Interesting field the GOP is having to nurse. Soon we will hear the thundering hoofbeats of Sarah Palin. Hey, with this bunch, she's got a better than even chance. All she has to do is show a bit more leg and cleavage ~ and every old Republican lecher on earth will vote for her. Couple that appearance with a campaign song of "Climb Every Mountain" and she is a shoo-in.

I do admire Ryan for detailing a plan. Unfortunately it is one that furthers the Republican attack on what's left of the middle class.

Cantor...Ryan. Is it true man love or just an infatuation? They both look......you know like girlie men.

Ryan has zero chance of running , much less winning the primary...He's dead in the TEA...

          Cantor has less chance....

Maybe Eric Cantor should be his running mate. Together they can get rid of Social Security and public education and create a true libertarian country. Their financial cohorts would sure be happy about that possibility.

Just another attempt to distract Americans, another "Shinny Keys" ploy to change the conversation from anything but Voucher Care.

Same old crap from the party of CRAP.

Yeah, Cantor is dumber than I thought. How incompetent are you republicans? To come up with this Medicare proposal when you no longer control the government, means that you simply intend to make this your campaign position. The republicans were clearly winning with their lies and misinformation about "Obamacare, yet they present an untenable proposal for Medicare when they did not need to do so. Now they have to defend this plan as a party and Newt has shown how difficult that will be. They had the democrats on the ropes and now they are the ones absorbing the punches... I love it!

The Democrats believe they have found a "diamond in the rough" by attacking Ryan's budget and Medicare in particular. There you have it; a Ryan look-alike shoving grandma off the cliff to her death because Medicare would not pay for her care. Any Ryan Medicare overhaul proposals would not at all affect people over 55. But this is not mentioned in the ad. Furthermore with Obamacare, 500 billion is being cut from Medicare, no questions asked. Take it or leave it. The Republicans are desperately trying to come up with a plan to save Medicare so there will be some benefits left for people under 55 when they reach retirement age. For that effort they are being ridiculed, mocked, and called grandma killers. What a travesty! If the Democrats have their way, there will soon be no money left for those under or over 55.

Let's face the facts and stop putting lipstick on a pig ... On all possible indicators this country is swirling around the bottom of the porcelain bowl, needing only a deft flip of the handle to flush the entire mess into the sewage plant of history.... because we have not learned anything from it. If all our venerated founding fathers returned from their graves they couldn't figure out how to get the proverbial ship righted. With both parties gluttonously feeding at the public trough (our back pockets), and the Fortune 500 CEOs and corporate lobbyists buying every favor from our esteemed Congress, there is no candidate, no visionary, no saviour to lead us out of our current and rather desperate situation. Apologies for the moribund perspective but I'm a diehard realist, and can not see this in any other light.
