Pawlenty to make it official next week

First Read has confirmed the news that former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) will officially launch his 2012 presidential bid on Monday in Iowa.

The announcement, of course, is hardly a surprise -- given that Pawlenty has already formed a presidential exploratory committee and has been preparing for a run over much of the past year.

In addition to Monday's event in Des Moines, Pawlenty will hold a Facebook town hall and media availability in Coral Gables, FL. And on Wednesday, he will hold another media avail in DC.

That announcement sends 'tingles' up my leg - NOT!!! lol

T-Paw is about as exciting as watching grass grow...

Face it - the Teapublican's don't have a charismatic contender in the bunch!

Lot's of crazies but NO firecracker!

Feisty, I think T-Paw is trying his best to build a little excitement - it's just not working. People get excited talking about the likes of Trump, Bachmann, Palin - but not milk toast.

Don't know much about Huntsman - maybe that'll get a little spark...

Timmy and Michelle 2012! She could beat him up on the playgroud quite handily, methinks! Team player? NOT! Partner? I wouldn't if I were him but he may have to.

It would be a dream ticket.....For Democrats!

speaking of grass,

we have some outlets here for home and garden called The Grass Pad

their motto, "The Grass Pad's High on Life"

Perhaps TPaw can modify that into a winning slogan? nah,...he doesn't have the sense of humor for the task.

Yawn..... boring and trying so hard to fire up the TP, but they just keep rolling out clones with baggage. Tim nearly pushed Minn. over the cliff. Sarah has to be thinking she's the one to fire up the base again, although even the tea party doesn't give her a shot. Come on righties, can't you do any better than this? Bet Bachmann throws her hat in before Memorial Day. She has a real inflated opinion of herself. Besides, she would be so much fun

Just as I predicted, after yelping for years about not judging politicians based on shallow looks, but on their ideas, the Obama moonbats will soon be praising the charisma of noncandidate Sarah Palin, and bashing the looks of candidates like Mitch Daniels.

T-paw?? You liberals bust my gut! Lets see... You have a name for everyone on the right. It's a good thing those running on the right have already written off liberal votes which makes you people an island unto yourselves. I'm waiting on the candidate that makes you really squawk because that's the one that deserves the strongest conservative vote. The 2012 voting season is still early and it's been entertaining to watch the liberals sitting in their lofty perches feeding each other from the gullet.

As each candidate announces, says or does something, it makes feathers ruffle on the left. I carry an umbrella with me because one never knows what may fall from the backside of the perches. The one thing I know for certain is no matter what candidate may come out of the right, the liberals will chirp like birds in the morning announcing how much they hate that person... simply because they want their favorite vulture to keep feeding on the American people.

Unless the world ACTUALLY does end on Saturday the Republican candidate for 2012 will be Mitt Romney and he lose as badly as Bob Dole in 1996.

I'll take your word for it Kate. I just find it humorous that the liberals choose either nicknames or their spin on a persons name. I always call Obama by his name. I don't need to add a level of disrespect because I always remember that he's human first.

On a humorous note... the funniest twist on Obama's name I've heard so far is Obamalamadingdong... in reference to the early 60's song.

Brianb my own nickname for TPaw was "1 term should have been" Pawlenty (for the humor factor) but with that said, the boy hasn't got the first clue on how to run a single state- let ALONE the full country. Prime example is my favorite little gem he pulled- In a budget hole, and decides ok we need extra taxes.. hey let's add on $1 per pack of smokes.. we'll call it my "health impact tax". yay us! my budget will be balanced in no time! oh wait.. what? they went to court?

unconstitutional you say? and they WON the court case?

that was the ruling? hmm.. ok what to do what to do... oh I know..

we'll just change the name from Health Impact TAX to Health Impact FEE-- and LEAVE THE DAMN THING IN PLACE!

Constitutional rights be damned. That's the point he lost any credibility he had with me, and if t hat's the kind of stunt he pulls in charge of 1 state- I ask again what do you think he'd do in charge of it all??

HELL NO!

Stormshadow - Pawlenty will never make it out of the starting gate. He's missing one critical item. Charisma. There are a lot of republican candidates that have none either. A mildly likable guy/gal will never get to 1st base. So far I've seen no fire from any of the republican candidate hopefuls. This is very reminiscent of 08. McCain had no fire either. It is still early though.

Ya know, it's funny that the liberals have kept an arms length away from Herman Cain. I don't recall a feature article about his run for President. I wonder why. How would the liberals attack him? I sense a strong absence of comments about Mr. Cain. I personally think he would be a strong contender.

exactly right that he has no chance. (Personality-ectomy not withstanding..lol) Once little factoids such as the one I outlined there start coming to light, along with the fact that he claims he left us "balanced on the budget" yet we're still on the wrong end of a 6B deficit, should show nicely that he's clueless.

"Storm" you have not a clue do you other than anything unblue sucks. Get educated please before you stuff your foot in your mouth again.

The 6.2 billion is for the up coming 2 years not the past 2. It really scares the left when a man who will do as he states comes to the forefront. Unlike Obama who is nothing but the great Liar inchief.

You want a man who will be honest, hard working, not pissing off our closest friend in the middle east. Obama's inexperience is so blantently obivios it is the joke of the free world. Hey I know lets leak some more info on the seals so they can get even more security to protect them and their families. .

Hypocrite much? Here you are crying about names people call each other, yet you seem to call anyone who supports Obama a Liberal. There are a lot of us who are not liberals nor Democrat who not only voted for him, but support him. Even Obama himself has shown to be more moderate than liberal. I realize that your small mind forces you to narrow your focus and call everyone who disagrees with you a liberal, but the reality is far different.

True...but then look at WHO the governor was who signed that budget. Even MN Republicans are noting that he left a deficit. You've been faced with the facts about this before, caradjt, but you always choose to put your red glasses on and look the other way, as if it never happened. That he's no longer governor doesn't automatically relieve him of what he did. Wiggle away from that one if you think you can...but be warned, history is against you from the start.

I'm not to excited about Pawlenty. He is a pollitician, not an awful one, but, a pollitician.

      The ones I'm watching are

Romney - front Runner, not announced, but It's been over two years of working the system. Definitely better than a McCain vote, but not my choice. His handling of Massachussetts Care past and present is a bigger concern now than it was 2 years ago - otherwise a good candidate.

Gingerich - can't count him out. Dangerously intelligent would be the best way to describe him. Like Obama - thinks he is more intelligent, than he really is - making him do REALLY DUMB things. I'd love to see him in a debate with Obama. My guess - Obama would get a few good licks in but for the most part Gingerich would handle him like Netanyahu did Friday afternoon - may with not quite as soft of gloves.

Cain - sounds interestingly really strong and good - I'm not sold on the fair tax issue. Need more time to consider and will study him a lot closer, but definitely going to consider him.

Palin - just saw something leaving me to believe she will jump in soon. Her recent silence appears to have been more about her son getting married. Watch for another silent period - a weekend out in the wilderness of Alaska - and then an announcement. Better than Gingerich draw power. Also is the only candidate to be a head in at least one state in the south, west, northeast and midwest.

Ron Paul - great economically - his foreign policy statements concern me as much of many of Obama's. Isolationism is as bad or worse than using chicago politics on the international scene.

Michelle Bachmann - Only on here because of the Tea Party support. Michelle - go work as an undersecretary or be an executive somewhere before 2016 or 2020.

So feisty, the substance of the attack on Pawlenty is that he does not run a trickle up your leg, and is not exciting?

I always thought Obama was elected by a bunch of dimwits, but this seals it.

I don't know if Pawlenty is going to be successful or not, but I'd take a boring, trickle-less leader who is a man of his word and is not a serial blamer / ridiculer, over the exciting trickler currently inhabiting the White House.

          #1.32 - Sat May 21, 2011 11:57 PM EDT

Caradjt... ummm wake up and smell the coffee please? Pawlenty is "Honest, hard working and a true statesman with ethical values"? Lmao! Are you joking? Kindly reread that first post to show how "ethical" he truly is. Hello?? McFly? Are we paying attention now?

*sigh* Fine I'll give you another example of T-Paw's alleged "ethics". He's now crowing about "I never raised taxes", and yet (notwithstanding my previous example) every person living in Hennepin County is currently paying additional sales taxes to cover the beautiful new Target Field! Hell, even other Repugs are saying he left us in a LOT worse shape than we started!

Maybe if you were here IN MN, you'd know this already.. (pretty common knowledge to us) but with you cheering from the sidelines, not having all the information available, you MIGHT think twice before accusing me of putting my foot in mouth again, hmm?

Still can't come to grips with the fact that your boy signed for that $6.2B deficit in MN before he left the governor's office, can you caradjt? I told you history was against you, and so it is, no matter how hard you try to spin or revise it.

To date, I don't recall T-Paw having any original ideas on health care, so he'll just probably knuckle under like Gingrich and follow the Republican mantra with the fiasco known as the Ryan Plan. But then he's been all over the board apologizing to anyone who'll listen that he's now totally against "cap-and-trade" even though he was originally an avid supporter of the program. If he doesn't recant, get on his knees and beg forgiveness for his "transgressions", the conservatives and Tea Partiers will toast his buns but good. And that will be all that's left of him...burnt toast.

Your red blinders are much more encompassing than originally imagined...to the point of being blind.

One could wish for the repeal of Pawlenty and his new taxes disguised as "fees" mistake...but I doubt he'll ever get that far along in the process to have to worry about getting "repealed".

Seems that Republican Clown Car still has paw-lenty of occupants.

          Feisty:

I can't wait to see how he responds to his own Budget woes including using the Stimulus Money to shore up his budget problems instead of using it for helping the people of his State.

          From ThinkProgress:

When he did balance the budget, Pawlenty relied on budget “gimmicks.” For example, “He postponed school and other obligations, leading to hikes in local property taxes and strains on school districts as burdens shifted downward.”

Perhaps even more unforgivable to conservatives, Pawlenty was only able to balance his budget by relying on President Obama’s stimulus package — the same stimulus package he derided as “a house of cards” of borrowed money that was “misdirected” and “largely wasted”. In fact, stimulus dollars accounted for “nearly one-third” of his budget gap. This led to what a local Fox affiliate dubbed a “faux-surplus.”

This guy is a typical lying GOP/TP Governor.

          Here's more from Think Progress:

But not everyone agrees with Pawlenty’s fiscal bona fides. Pawlenty’s predecessor, Arne Carlson, a Republican who was governor of Minnesota from 1991 to 1999, recently told Time magazine of the presidential hopeful, “I don’t think any governor has left behind a worse financial mess than he has.” Carlson is an avowed fiscal conservative who, in his retirement, has led a “Paul Revere Tour” to raise alarm about the state’s finances. Carlson has been a frequent critic of Pawlenty’s fiscal mismanagement and in April, he told Minn Post that Pawlenty undid important fiscal reforms and is solely to blame for the state’s fiscal morass-

Feisty once again I must agree with you, I started researching these Tea Party people (mostly because of you) so I went to their main official page thing and read the about them and mission statement, and I thought to myself wow they think like I do, yeah until I went to their message forums, You are correct they are nothing more than an extended arm of the Republican party, one of them actually said to me, if you're not ready to vote for whatever republican makes it on the ballot then you're not sharing the tea party interest.

Of course I'm not a Democrat y'all know that, but I'm also not a Republican, so I had to say, well here let me copy and paste the conversation.

          what she/he said: to MzFitz:

First of all, we do not appreciate the propoganda for any candidate; your urls are just that.

Second, please feel free to vote for any Republican candidate and argue for him, like you did in your post.

Third, unless you are committed to vote for the final Republican candidate, and thus against Obama, you are not serving Tea Party interests.

My Response: propaganda? okay *insert eye roll here* yet it's completely okay for y'all to be misrepresenting and spouting outright lies gotcha.

I am arguing for someone who's running as a Republican, though per your mission statement you're neither Republican or Democrats you just want what's best for our country, well obviously neither one of those parties are that now are they?

I'm not committing to vote for anyone right now, I'll vote my conscience and what I think is best for this country, there are more than two parties you know. I will admit I voted Republican once (last election) I've also voted Democrat once- way back when I turned 18.

Y'all really need to change your mission statement to say you vote Republican that you really are another arm of the party (the whole reason I even started researching you was because of the Democrats drivel) I'm honestly saddened by this. So please for the sake of honesty and dignity stop preaching libertarian/constitutionalist views and just embrace what you really are.

          Good luck and Godspeed~

So knowing I will most likely never ever agree with most of your talking points, this is the one place you and I will be in agreement with.

Of course I'm not a Democrat y'all know that, but I'm also not a Republican, so I had to say, well here let me copy and paste the conversation.

1SGFitzsWife4ID - Thank you for posting this. I sincerely hope that others will follow your lead and do their own research and find out for themselves what these groups are touting.

Personally, my view is that you lay out ALL of the information - good and bad - and then make a decision based on what FACTS you have that are there. Sometimes you will see what you THOUGHT was 'good' really isn't.

I am glad that Feisty inspired you to do your own research. We may not EVER agree again on anything, but after this post, I will know that your position is reasoned and researched and it does carry weight when weare debating an issue.

Kudos to you for what you have done, and I hope you have a good weekend.

Why do liberals need to quote Think Progress opinions so much. Can't they formulate their own opinions? Guess they need others to think for them.

I don't know the whole thing just made me angry I guess, no wonder people think independent, libertarian, constitutionalists are crazy, I'm sure there's really good people in the tea party and I'm sure that the couple of people that attacked me might've just been part of the fringe, but considering it was the first time I ever posted in there and TOLD them I was interested in what they had to say, it just really didn't help their cause.

I was raised by both Democrats and Republicans, who taught me to think for myself, I'm all about agreeing to disagree and to state exactly why, I don't know I'm just tired of the childish name calling and attacks on people, I don't see how it helps create solutions to anything, if anything it creates a further divide in our country, it's obvious that the politicians on both side have gone completely insane, so I feel that it's time that "we the people" stand together no matter what side we're on and show the politicians that we are capable of working together one way or another. I am completely saddened by what I've learned in the past few days and I'm guessing that's why I was so put off by MSNBC calling Dr. Paul the Godfather of the tea party, they are not what he stands for, and I'm glad I got to talk to him to voice that.

Anyway I too hope y'all have a great weekend, See y'all on Monday (that is if the world doesn't end tomorrow lol *sarcasm*)

The true Godfather of the TEA party is Dick Armey... A political insider.. But don't tell that to its members, they think they are a grass roots organization...

And like all populist movements, you are going to have your wackos... The biggest enemy to the TEA Party cause are the screamers and hateful flamethrowers such as we see all over the vine here.. Most of them have no clue as how things work, they just know they aren't happy about something... And most of them aren't happy because someone with an agenda told them they weren't... Manufactured outrage... There are well meaning people in the TEA party, but their voices are drowned out by that faction within their group that screams the loudest, and thereby they are the ones that get the coverage by the media... The flamethrowers are hurting thier own cause...

My extreme solution to the problem?... A French Revolution type thing... Since the political process is broken so badly that absolutley nothing gets accomplished, and nothing will change until we can get leaders who actually LEAD, instead of pandering to their own self interests and the interests of their puppetmasters, there may be no other solution...

The seeds of dissent are sown... Shall we harvest the grapes of wrath?

Until we unite, AS A PEOPLE, and not a political party, we will continue down this path of our own self destruction...It may be too late, but I pray it is not... There may be time for us to stop our own internal bickering and face down those who are the true enemy of Freedom and Liberty...

lol Valor hubby was 101st too (I believe you were also?) Airborne baby! So he'd forgive you ;) He knows I love you I speak out loud as I type sometimes *blush* He's been on a video game kick the last couple of days thankfully they don't come around often.

Hey we're actually getting rain right now, of course it's a day late and too much too fast but beggars can't be choosers right? Though of course I need to go to the store and don't like to drive in the rain.

Fitz!...I'm happy I don't have to worry about that surgical strike!

I served as a medic with the 1/509th Airborne Infantry in Germany during the early 70s, and after a tour In Berlin, was stationed at Ft. Bragg with a Medical unit attached to the 82nd Airborne Division... 45 jumps and only two malfunctions!...I loved jumping out of perfectly good airplanes!

Tell Top hi for me... I look forward to reading more of your posts...Keep up the good fight! See you soon!

I asked hubby how many jumps he had and he said he ended up being air assault instead of airborne (my bad) I guess he tore some ligaments that kept him from jumping, I think y'all are crazy I would never jump out of something that isn't crashing! Heck I might not even jump out of it then! Yeah I'm a big wuss.

Both of my younger brothers were medics they're both out now, one got hit by an IED in Iraq a couple of years ago thankfully he's only got 70% disability on the left side (he walks with a really cool Dr. House cane) and the youngest of us is now an Occupational therapist in California, I'm very proud of both of them.

If leaving a fiscal mess was a dis-qualifier from elected office, most major east coast cities and states would all be Republican led. Good lord look at Philadelphia, Chicago, etc.. they are all cesspools because of decades of liberal chicanery.

One thing for sure, all you libbies are scared to death of a decent Republican candidate, as your empty-suit has made a big fat mess of his first two years.

The announcement, of course, is hardly a surprise -- given that Pawlenty has already formed a presidential exploratory committee and has been preparing for a run over much of the past year.

This is the understatement of the day. T-Paw has been preparing a run since he was elected governor. Seemed to spend his term more focused on using the job as a stepping stone to his future rather than actually governing the state.

Most governors think that way. Just because they can run one of the 50 states they have believe running a country is the next step in the career.

The problem with the Repub/TPer Governors running the States is that they are running them into the ground! Imagine how much worse it would be for the US to have one of them as President....it is just plain scary...no, Horrifying!!

You are right about governors. We had Jimminy "Cricket Head" Carter. He Sucked! And Bill "_ick Head" Clinton" He got SUCKED. And if you put them both together, you DIDN'T have a president worth the oxygen they waste EVERY day.

Dont get me wrong, I would still prefer a governor over a senator or a congress-person. You are right the Republican governors seem be focused on for passing laws that curb collective bargaining, stop funds for planned parenthood programs, show ID for voting etc. None of the Republican governors appear focused on creating jobs - the highest need on anyone's list.

                  And Bill "_ick Head" Clinton"

I've never understood the right's dissatisfaction with Clinton. Yes, he was disorganized and his wife's to blame for the first two wasted years, but business was booming in America for most of those 8 years. I believe most of that was due to GHW Bush's wise decisions towards the end of his term (the most underrated president of the past 100 years, btw) but Clinton learned and kept things going with a very hostile congress after him. I don't see how you could actively dislike him, that's all.

If you want to name bad governor/presidents, may i suggest Zombie Reagan? He didn't know what planet he was on towards the end.

None news! Here some good news!

WASHINGTON — Unemployment rates fell last month in more than three-quarters of nation's states, evidence that companies are feeling more confident in the U.S. economy.

The Labor Department said Friday that unemployment rates dropped in 39 states in April. That's an improvement from March when 34 states had reported decreases. Rates rose in three states and the District of Columbia. They were unchanged in eight states.

Employers added workers in 42 states. Only eight states and the District of Columbia lost jobs last month.

Nationally, businesses have added more than 250,000 jobs per month, on average, in the past three months. It's the fastest hiring spree in five years.

He further stated that under Pawlenty, "It became Deficit Heaven. All things we did were undone" He left office with a $6 Billion Deficit and higher Unemployment than when he became governor.

Actually, Pawlenty refers to himself a s "T-Paw". Not a nickname picked by the liberals, but by the man himself.

"T-Paw" reached his peak during the 2008 campaign. That is as far as he can go.

If all of the Republican contenders for Prez would give their campain war chests to the US Treasury, that might bring about the savings they say they need to not vote to default on the debt, har!

Some people like to get their ears tickled with unkeepable promises. The cycle of democracy just might kill us. We keep electing the ones that promise us the most unsustainable ear tickling promises. Pawlenty is a good man. Exciting? No! Leave that to Hollywood! Good parents and good doctors don't tell you just want you wish to hear, they tell you what you need to hear. A good government leader will tell us things WE DON'T WANT TO HEAR. If I want fun and games I will go to Disney World. If I want want is good for us, I will vote for a good man.

Seems to me that Obama has been telling us a lot of the truth. Not the lies that we were fed for 8 years with bushwhacker! Pawlenty is in it to give the right a rallying cry, but certainly not the know how!

Pawlenty isn't really running, or even expecting to be chosen, for the Republican nod; his only purpose is to give his TPers a good showing and hope he gets the nod for running mate with whoever really gets the Republican candidancy. The TPers aren't going to have a candidate of their own running for the Presidency ... no way!

Pawlenty just hopes his exposure will get him ready for the 2020, or even the 2016 Elections.

Why are there so many nuts from the right running for president from Minnesota? Bachmann is a nut case that belongs in a straight jacket in some institution. Pawlenty left Minnesaota in a mess and low approval ratings.

Our nuts here in MN are not just limited to the right. See Franken and Ventura.

Now I kinda liked Ventura ... wasn't he in that movie with Arnold Swartz ... Predator?

Think he was the one firing the mini-gun ... awesome!

I don't need "Think Progress" to let me know this stuff...I LIVE in MN, and I KNOW how Pawlenty balances a budget...We are at about a 5 billion shortfall this year, and most of that comes from IOU's Pawlenty handed out when HE was "balancing" the budget...Schools, Cities, etc., didn't get paid when they should have (when the budget was set in 2010) with Pawlenty saying they'd be paid when "times are better".

So, of course, cities and counties raise their taxes/fees, but hey, at least Pawlenty can get by with "I didn't raise taxes"...
