Subscribe to RSSFormer Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee announced late Saturday that - in a "spiritual" decision guided by his relationship with Christ - he will not seek the Republican nomination for president in 2012.
"All the factors say go, but my heart says no. And that's the decision that I've made," he announced at the end of his FOX News show.
The 2008 presidential candidate said that his final decision not to run -- which he arrived at "late this week" -- came in spite of donors' enthusiasm and robust poll numbers even in states outside of his native South. He also noted that his wife and children have been supportive of a run.
"I don't expect everyone to understand this, but I am a believer and a follower of Jesus Christ," he said. "And that relationship is far more important to me than any political office. For me, the discussion and decision is not a political one, not a financial one. It's not even a practical one. It's a spiritual one."
Huckabee, who snatched a surprise victory in the first-in-the-nation Iowa caucuses in 2008, has performed at or near the top of the GOP pack in several national presidential polls.
The announcement came at the end of an hour-long program during which Huckabee interviewed onetime Saved by the Bell star Mario Lopez about healthy eating and then played the bass guitar alongside a camouflage-cowboy-hat-sporting Ted Nugent. Huckabee said at the conclusion of his announcement that he will return to his primetime show - which he could not have continued if he pursued a run -- next week.
The FOX show was followed by a short "special announcement" by possible candidate (and FOX news contributor) Donald Trump. "A lot of people are very happy that he will not be running, especially other candidates," said Trump. "So Mike, enjoy the show, your ratings are terrific, you're making a lot of money, you're building a beautiful house in Florida, good luck."

I'm a democrat, so I wouldn't have voted for him anyway. However, I had always liked and respected him until a few weeks ago when he tried to equate Obama with being sympathetic to, and trained as, a Jomo Kenyatta 'Mau Mau' that supported the slaughter of white people. That was so far over the top that I lost any feeling of good will toward him and have wished him nothing but tough going since. I think he realized how wicked and evil these remarks were, and realized that the majority of the American people no longer took him seriously (just like Mr Barbor came to realize that most Americans simply wouldn't vote for a 'Boss Hawg' with a syrupy drawl either).
At least he was intelligent enough to understand this and not not give up a good thing for a lost cause. Wonder when the remainder of this pathetic field of Repubs will see the light..........

Probably a good idea to skip this one. I have a feeling this will be the most violent, mudslinging, lie and hate-filled, dirty secret delving adventure we have ever seen. A true Christian should not be able to sink that low.
He already did though. He works at Fox and lied that the president was brought up in Kenya and to understand him you must understand the "Mau-Mau" (kenyan nationalists that slaughtered white settlers and colonialists a half century ago).... When cauught, he LIED again and said he "meant" Indonesia which doesn't fly because he mentioned the Mau-Mau tyhe first time, and well knows the history there apparantly.
These kind of stuff is incredibly VILE, and his status as a "Christian minister" didn't keep him from uttering such FILTH to please the racists and the sheep that watch Fox "News".

Look at John Ensign and Tom Coburn....I sure hope those two get everything THEY deserve for the lying, scandalous, cheating, theives they are and the lives they've ruined but thought they can get way with it because according to Johhny Boy: "God heals, has shown me the error of my ways and he forgives....blah, blah, blah".

Of course his Willie Horton type decision that killed 3 police officers would have come up. Perhaps , not on FOX , but in other real news venues. Good Riddance........ "Christ" told him he'd make better money with his Fox TV program, selling Ronald Reagan cartoons to our nation's children and telling endless lies about President Obama. After all first the President was born in Kenya and spent all those "childhood years there but then it was in Indonesia" after he was caught in a bold faced lie so was he born in Kenya again?

I agree, one more we the people don't have to worry about, because YOU SEE, the conservative Republicans don't believe in government, they say there's nothing good about it. So why would we want them to form policy if they're lousy at coming up with policy. Taking their no govt. mentality to it's furthest extent they don't believe in taxes, so therefore municipal services don't exist, don't fix that pothole, there's no money fix it. Let's not assist seniors on the poverty line, no taxes, they can go to PetsMart, there's plenty of high protein dog food to help them eat.We must have some tax however, to fund the next 2 trillion of the already 2 trillion spent in Iraq & Afganistan!!!

You may well be right. The next election is Obama's to win or lose. If unemployment drops significantly (and not by people running out of benefits) but rather people finding livable wage jobs, gas prices drop to $3 a gallon or less, and Food prices drop then he will win hands down. However, if the jobless recovery rhetoric continues and unemployment remains in the double digits, gas hovers near $4 per gallon or higher, and people cannot afford food then he loses in a landslide no matter who is running. Blaming George Bush will not work after four years on the job and no significant progress. It is all about the economy.
Well if over 400 bills had not died on the Senate floor in 2 years because we needed a Super Majority on everything and YES, there were JOBS bills in there because your PARTISAN-(We must make Obama a ONE TERM President and will not cooperate with him from here on out), after HCR was passed, which took almost a year and was watered to down to death with GOP amendments so it lacked the muscle it needed to be the law it could have been, including having a public option to keep insurance companies from charging the rates they are now since becoming law, but hey, who has a memory these days other then when it's convenient?
That's basically why we have a houseful of ostructionists in DC now who are really going to make sure the economy sucks for the next two years so they can KEEP blaming it on the President when in reality, unemployment would far WORSE then it is now had he had not done what he managed to do with the stimulus and LOANS to the auto industry. They're being paid BACK and jobs are being created by them if you have not noticed GM is adding more hires here in the US AGAIN and are building cars which the repubs wanted to just say: "Let em burn....." and every job that is linked to that industry would have taken hits like there was no tomorrow creating MORE unemployment in the US but keep bailing out those banks, Wall St, handing out taxpayer subsidies to the oil companies, and tax breaks to the biggest profit making corporations that outsource, outsource, outsource or just keep putting that money in overseas accounts instead of investing it HERE.

Funny how the Democrats have the ideas and when the repubs get in, it's the same crap over and over: Dismantle the Democrat's policies that they put in place, promises of lower taxes and creating "all those jobs" like they've been doing since Ronnie ran up the biggest deficits in history while our manufacturing industry shed jobs by the thousands every year and it has'nt stopped, middle class wages stagnated while the big guys saw theirs go through the roof and places like MI, IN, OH, the textile industry practically DIED as Americans were convinced that those horrible UNIONS were to blame for this so WE have to make less $$$, share the "sacrifice" by paying more for our benefits, our pensions and oh yes, if we want to keep OUR jobs, take a pay cut but those guys in the IVORY TOWER or on Wall St? That's true Larry, but it's also true that the founders did not want the government to impose religious laws on anybody. They saw how badly that can turn out where they came from. Do you know why the Catholic church burned tens of thousands of heretics at the stake in Europe some 500 or years ago? (answer at bottom).
We can see how bad it is today too in those supposedly, ruled by God, theocratic countries like Iran. What a horribly cruel joke on the people of Iran to have a monstrous dictatorship pretending that what they do is God's bidding!
