Subscribe to RSSFormer Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee announced late Saturday that - in a "spiritual" decision guided by his relationship with Christ - he will not seek the Republican nomination for president in 2012.
"All the factors say go, but my heart says no. And that's the decision that I've made," he announced at the end of his FOX News show.
The 2008 presidential candidate said that his final decision not to run -- which he arrived at "late this week" -- came in spite of donors' enthusiasm and robust poll numbers even in states outside of his native South. He also noted that his wife and children have been supportive of a run.
"I don't expect everyone to understand this, but I am a believer and a follower of Jesus Christ," he said. "And that relationship is far more important to me than any political office. For me, the discussion and decision is not a political one, not a financial one. It's not even a practical one. It's a spiritual one."
Huckabee, who snatched a surprise victory in the first-in-the-nation Iowa caucuses in 2008, has performed at or near the top of the GOP pack in several national presidential polls.
The announcement came at the end of an hour-long program during which Huckabee interviewed onetime Saved by the Bell star Mario Lopez about healthy eating and then played the bass guitar alongside a camouflage-cowboy-hat-sporting Ted Nugent. Huckabee said at the conclusion of his announcement that he will return to his primetime show - which he could not have continued if he pursued a run -- next week.
The FOX show was followed by a short "special announcement" by possible candidate (and FOX news contributor) Donald Trump. "A lot of people are very happy that he will not be running, especially other candidates," said Trump. "So Mike, enjoy the show, your ratings are terrific, you're making a lot of money, you're building a beautiful house in Florida, good luck."

He's just putting it nicely. I think Huckabee's brain says no more than his heart does. No Republican candidate in their right mind is going to beat Barack Obama in 2012. Palin might be stupid enough to embarrass herself, but that election is already won.
That's becasue he knows Obama is the best for the job, but he's not telling anyone.

As long as we get the liar-in -chief, I really don't care which republican runs or wins. Cain, West, Palin, Bachmann, Trump, Pawlenty, Santorum, Paul, Daniels, Gingrich, who cares, they all beat what we have now.

I would pay to watch Newt wipe the floor with Obama in a debate. Regardless of what anyone thinks of Newt, he would slaughter Obama. One can only hope for a debate between the two.

The money at Fox must be sweet! Giving it up to live in the White House would probably feel like living on welfare to this guy...to think that Fox might be paying him six figure per good lie, why would anyone want to give up that gig...unless you are extremly patriotic!!

Pretty much all of the disasters Obama has turned around were from the previous administration. He didn't have the luxury of inheriting a budget surplus.

Yeah and I wish Gore had been President or better yet Obama in 2001 and see how his reading rights and all the rhetoric with terrorists would have been. Bush actually tried to get to a surplus in 2006 and Dem controlled Congress blocked everything, but hell, reelect Obama and only another 5 years of blaming Bush. Never seen so many people, including Obama, blame previous admins. Every other President takes the job and goes on. I didn't like Clinton and he didn't want to balance budget either, but Rep controlled Congress forced, but US was still $4 trillion in debt. Theirs a difference between debt and deficit. If we ever get back to surplus, then debt will go down. I actuall say tax the rich, take oil subisidies and all subsidies away, and watch countries move overseas and so will oil. Hope wind power and $40K electric cars work for you. Worked as engineer for 30 years and corporate world is what government needs to be run as a busiess.

Huck made the best decision he can make when God put that BlACK Dude in there because all you dumbies who werent smart enough to ask the question what are you going to change. Well every politician puts their foot in their mouth once in a while, and so Obama has too, but that statement suggests he does that as a general rule, and that seems to be a big exaggeration, especially when compared to the way Obama has been treated by the right wing.
So, educate us, pat, what disgraceful remarks? And, no Obama supporters don't hate America. You don't have to denigrate someone's patriotism just because they have a different political opinion. In fact, the reason we vote for Obama and Democrats is because we love our country and want to make it better.
