EL PASO, Texas -- Expect to hear a lot more about immigration in the next two years, but not because anything is likely to get done on Capitol Hill.
In a speech that had all the hallmarks of a campaign -- the hand shaking, the outdoor event, chants of “Yes, we can” -- President Obama sought to build a “movement” around comprehensive immigration reform.
“We need Washington to know that there is a movement for reform gathering strength from coast to coast,” Obama said here steps from the U.S.-Mexico border. “That’s how we’ll get this done.”
And there were plenty of political shots to go around, especially for Republicans.
"We have gone above and beyond what was requested by the very Republicans who said they supported broader reform as long as we got serious about enforcement," Obama said. "But even though we've answered these concerns, I suspect there will be those who will try to move the goal posts one more time. They'll say we need to triple the border patrol. Or quadruple the border patrol. They'll say we need a higher fence to support reform. Maybe they'll say we need a moat. Or alligators in the moat.
"They'll never be satisfied. And I understand that. That's politics."
The president, however -- in his first trip here to the border since taking office -- did not offer any new details on what he would like to see in an immigration-reform bill, nor did he press a timeline. (The specifics he offered today were similar to what was offered in his July 2010 speech.) Aboard Air Force One earlier today, NBC’s Athena Jones reports that White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said he would not preview their legislative strategy.
One thing is clear, pressing this issue publicly is important to Obama’s reelection chances. Hispanics are the largest-growing group in the country, according to 2010 Census data. They now comprise 16% of the U.S. population, yet they comprised just 9% of the 2008 electorate. And they broke overwhelmingly for Obama, 67%-31%.
President Obama also talked about how immigrants have made great contributions to the country – in creating businesses like Intel and Google, that they, for the most part, come to America looking for work and to help their families. But he tried to strike a moderate tone, again saying immigrants who came here illegally and broke the rules need to pay a fine, learn English and go to the back of the line.
“Everyone recognizes the system is broken,” Obama said. “The question is, will we summon the political will to do something about it?”
He blamed “politics,” “rhetoric,” and “Washington games” on why comprehensive immigration reform hasn’t passed in Congress.
“The question is whether those in Congress who previously walked away in the name of enforcement are now ready to come back to the table and finish the work we’ve started,” the president said. “We have to put the politics aside. And if we do, I’m confident we can find common ground. Washington is behind the country on this.”
He continued, “[T]there is a consensus around fixing what’s broken. Now we need Congress to catch up to a train that’s leaving the station.”
The president now heads to Austin, Texas, for two fundraisers for his reelection.

Why does everything has to be a campaign speech?
Does anyone of you Liberals like to challenge the mere fact Obama is just another politician and he plays to whatever group he is in front of ?
The man is a POLITICIAN......that is all.
ITM. Not sure what your point is. Sarah Palin, Newt, Huntsman, Paul, and the whole list of republican cadidates are all just politicians. So what?
Christ, even Saint Reagan was a politician! He never campaigned?? Really???
ITM...What are you trying to say.....................Every President is a politician?? Of course they are, was there another point?
I think InTheMiddle was pointing out that campaigning is ALL Obama does. Leadership? None..... Cooperation? Not at all....Specifics? Not one.....A Plan? Other than to blame republicans, no plan.
He's useless.
Joe. Try to keep up. He saved the country from a depression, he restored the worlds faith in America, he has begun the job of economic recovery, and he got Osama.
And he did moreto secure the boarder than his predecessor did. The GOP complain about boarder security so President Obama gave them everything they asked for. The GOP still stalled the Dream Act (even though the originally supported it). It did pass in the House and in the Senate but was filibustered.
Navy. Maybe the president should change strategy. Tell the media the opposite of what he really wants?
Everything they asked for? You are joking, right Navy?
You have heard about the newest ploy - the directive to the Border Patrol not to arrest or detain.
Yeah, that what we asked for all right.
Say Navy, was it only republicans against the Dream Act? Too bad it won't pass either house now.
The Repubs like the status quo on immigration just fine. Business gets a supply of cheap labor that will work under dangerous conditions, and the Republican pols have an issue they can demagogue to keep their xenophobic base in a perpetual frenzy. The fact that Obama has done more than Bush did to stem the flow of illegal immigrants is something they won't acknowledge.
Baseless, angry nonsense. He's provided plenty of leadership and led on issues across the spectrum from tackling the highest health-costs in the Western world, to leading on brokering peace in the middle-east (that ultimately failed as a result of Israel), to the war on terror by expanding drone use to Osama Bin Laden, repeal of DADT, attempt to pass immigration reform with the DREAM act, attempted to reform No Child Left Behind, led in renewed missile reduction treaties, financial sector reform, clean energy initiatives, and that is just what I'm able to think of in the few minutes writing this.
He's done more for the cause of reform, progress and innovation than any president since FDR... I don't know where you get this "lack of leadership", "lack of cooperation" nonsense.
You mean he is a liar, a conniver and a speaker of half-truths and false promises? Noooooooo,,,You meant just another CHICAGO politician,,Also even though I was educated in California , I was taught that ILLEGAL meant against the law, in essence a criminal act. Depends if you use the liberal dictionary of ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT (hurtful and insensitive words) or the conservative dictionary of ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT( a criminal act violating this country's sovereign immigration poilicies).
Deport all these illegal alien / invaders. If at every opportunity you enforce the law and deport illegal aliens from jobs, schools, and whenever they have contact with law enforcement, the word would get around and sooner rather than later self deportation would start occuring. The law is the law and sneaking in here or being here illegally is against the law. I wish I could pick and chose which laws I wanted to be enforced against me and you, but the fact is if you or I break the law, you or I have to pay a fine and / or penalty. I didn't write the laws, I didn't write the constitution, I didn't even ask the illegal invaders to invade my country, but I expect the laws to be enforced equally whether I like it or not. I don't care if your an illegal alien, space alien, or alien alien, if you're here illegally it's time to go back home and apply the right way....NO AMNESTY, NO AMNESTY, NO AMNESTY and boycott illegal aliens, anchor babies, chain migration, and anything illegal, including the "NIGHTMARE ACT".
There is no value in increasing the population of a dying economy, especially with unskilled masses.
What's the value of immigration?
In 2007, the President's Council of Economic Advisers tried to balance these gains and losses. They totaled all the gains, subtracted the losses and concluded that our present immigration conferred a net benefit of ... hold your excitement ... somewhere between 0.22% of national income and 0.60% of national income..
(And as economist George Borjas notes, the CEA could reach the higher end number, 0.6%, only by ignoring the economic harm done by new immigration to the immediately prior immigrants.)
That seems a poor payoff for the disruption caused by mass migration. Imagine if your kid's classroom went from zero non-English-speakers to 10 in just a couple of years. Then you are told that this turmoil is adding just fractions of a penny to the national income? Surely you'd ask: Why are we doing this?
It does not have to be this way. If we chose our immigrants differently, immigration would upgrade the average skill level of the U.S. population. (As is, 31% of immigrants have not completed high school.) If we chose our immigrants differently, they could contribute more in taxes than they require in benefits. (As is, immigrants are 50% more likely to be poor than the native-born.)
Back in the 1950s and 1960s, immigrants arrived with higher skills and soon gained higher incomes than the native born. That's how immigration still works in Canada and Australia. Their immigration systems are race-neutral and favor prospective immigrants who arrive with language skills, advanced degrees or capital to invest.

P.S.
Survey: 85% of New College Grads Move Back in with Mom and Dad
http://newsfeed.time.com/2011/05/10/survey-85-of-new-college-grads-moving-back-in-with-mom-and-dad/?hpt=C2
Democrats are willing to give everyone's future away (except for their families of course) to rule over a smoldering garbage pile, rather than work hard to fix a nations problems.
Even Canada is starting to review their immigration and visa policies. They are tightening up on giving their work visas as they believe they are taking jobs away from Canadians.
The legal term is "illegal alien". Obama keeps perpetuating the myth that the GOP keeps "moving the goalpost" on border security. Wrong. The GOP is like the vast majority of voting citizens who have consistently called to have the entire border secured. That remains the objective to be done first and the border remains wide open. Got that Obama?
The bottom line is that most illegal aliens here will never get amnesty. Ain't gonna happen so get use to that reality. All we have to do is clarify the law that if you came here illegally and then did anything else illegal, like use forged documents for any reason, then you are permanently barred from ever being a citizen. That alone gets rid of most illegal aliens here now.
Spanky, Navyboy wont answer you. He never does, he sits on his self minded royal throne and spits out love epitaphs at Fiesty and Bev and around 7 other liberal posters on this vine. The funny part is that they pretend to part of the elite educated liberal brethren, only they converse and write like 12 years olds in grade school! Case in point the following "And he did moreto secure the boarder" Was the boarder being unruly, perhaps the rent was over due! Or maybe I should say..... Over dew! lol its good for a chuckle!
I suspect that pjammed and KevinQQ like the current system only because it gives them a whole group of people they abuse, victimize, persecute, and dehumanize without being accused of being politically incorrect.
Republican politicians like the current system because it provides an entire class of 'untouchables' who will work for low wages but have no rights and can not vote. They also like the current system because it allows them to pander to the vote of every bigot in the country, and because there is a lot of money (and therefore campaing contributions) to be had by implementing expensive border walls, immigration prisons, etc. Not to mention the fact that it gives the drug cartels a second source of income, which also means more money (and campaign contributions) to be had by selling guns to the cartels.
Personally, I did not think the Obama proposals went far enough in ending abuses and providing justice, but at least he has a plan.
The Republican plan is 'keep things as they are, pander to bigotry and hate, and throw endless amounts of so-called enforcement money down a rathole, while doing nothing to end unauthorized immigration. Increasingly expensive attempts at enforcement can not unauthorized immigration, because so-called enforcement does not address the root cause, which is available jobs.
Besides TRUE immigration reform, the only way to end unauthorized immigration is to completely TANK the American economy, something the new Republican Party has proven itself quite good at.
End the idiotic, dysfunctional, and anti-American quota system.
How foolish, and what a waste of money.
Implementing immigration rules that are in our national self interest would cost nothing and eliminate the need to spend vast sums of money on ugly walls and other ineffectual, but collossally expensive methods.
My question has to do with citizenship. Doesn't the Dream Act mock the process of citizenship? It does to me.
Having known many people who entered the US through the process I can say that while the illegals are desirous of being citizens, the Dream Act is not the way to do it.
Yes, change the laws so that babies born on US soil to illegal immigrants are not automatically US citizens.
retired, your own views mock citizenship and the Constitution.
The DREAM Act acknowledges that those who risk their lives for their country ought to be accorded with citizenship. It would be disgraceful if it were otherwise.
No, I don't think that anyone should risk their lives for citizenship, when there is no war in progress. (The big wars come to mind with refugees, which is not the case, here.) They should go through the process.
Sorry, if that's what you think of my comment, but, why bother having any rules? Just open the borders and let everybody in.
Kinda seems like he had a couple of years to take care of business.
But you do have to love the laser like focus on jobs, the economy and energy prices.
Now way anyone could see this as mindless pandering. No. Way.
Just think how much more he could have accomplished if conservatives had put the countries needs first.
Sure, let's put 11 million illegal immigrants on the hiring line--think that'll help American citizens find a job?
I agree...this is trolling for reelection votes. Can't we declare a war on UNEMPLOYMENT? How's that for a focus?
Most of those came under the administrations of Reagan and Bush. Another fine mess the conservatives left.
Hey BlueBurner: Ask Boehner about that war on unemployment. GOP/TPers ran on that last fall and we've gotten nothing but Social engineering out of them since their 'landslide' victory Y'all keep reminding us of.
Hey Missy TX....go look at the unemployment numbers since the GOP/TPers took office. 800,000 private sector jobs created.
Joe. All thanks to Obama.
Yeppers to that one PSLC. Been looking at those numbers with pride Joe. Now if all the daddy Warbucks across the nation would get off their fat wallets and start hiring we all could get back to work. I won't hold my breath.
Every ethnic immigrant group that arrived on our shores took the jobs no one else would--Germans, Irish, Italians, Russians, Chinese, Japanese, Puerto Ricans, etc. It's in our history books if anyone bothered to read it.
Obama's or Boehner's?
Both, but Behner is focused on the debt ceiling fight. Oddly, Obama is out on the stump talking about immigration.
Cause you know, we totally have a shortage of unskilled, uneducated workers. Why they just hired 60,000 burger flippers at McDonald's. Wasn't that just peachy?
Say Jody, what was the unemployment rate beck when those groups came over? What was the cap on unemployment back in those days. So shall we notjust open up to all comers? You think there might be a slight problem with that approach Jody? Or do you think we should get no say in who gets to come?
Just silly Jody.
Give one policy that the Obama administration has enacted which has created jobs. There are none unless you have a very creative imagination.
I can give you one policy which has killed thousands of jobs in the gulf coast states alone. Energy.
Obama is a hindrance to recovery.
Obama - The GREAT DIVIDER - in a time and place where we need UNITY.
Obama is just pandering votes because he knows NO PRESIDENT has ever been re-elected when unemployment has been over 7% during thier term.
Hispanics make up a total of 16% of the US population for LEGAL residents. that leaves 84% non-hispanic voters.
America will revolt against Obama in the coming election if the unemployment rate is not lowered substantially. Thats a fact period.
Yeah let Obama preach Amnesty for ILLEGAL ALIENS with America is in a deep recession. He is killing himself pandering to the hispanic vote of maybe 8% of the voters while forgetting about the other 80+% of non-hispanic voters. 1 in 3 hispanics voted NOT for Obama by the way.
Arizona has it right. The far left radicals are preaching socialism, entitlements, racism, hatred, and more in thier everquest of rhetorical political gain, all in the name of AMERICAN FREEDOM
Almost time to do the liberal Cha Cha...... I know Mr Rove on tv this morning started you guys off on the wrong foot! Sorry!
Obama here is just catering to the Latino vote. If he was really serious about immigration reform, he would have done something about it when the Democrats held all three houses. Now that he no longer has the influence to initiate legislation, he suddenly becomes massively concerned about the plight of our undocumented population.
The president said, "We have gone above and beyond what was requested by the very Republicans who said they supported broader reform as long as we got serious about enforcement," Obama said. "But even though we've answered these concerns, I suspect there will be those who will try to move the goal posts one more time."
This is an outright lie or shall we call it rhetoric?
The right wants the president to enforce laws already on the books and secure the border! The president absolutely has NOT done that.
LOL!! You libs really are clueless aren't you? Do you have any idea how bad Obama's policies are for private sector growth? Didn't think so....go back to your overpaid, government union job.
getalifevirginia, I would bet my life that if that's what the Pres. said it's what has happened, no doubt. And if you think Obama lies, I can tell you that compared to our last Pres., Obama is a saint.
Again - I ask the question, WHY is this President held to different standards than his predecessors?
The political system today is set up as such that, once ANY of them are sworn in their back on the campaign trail.
Kinda like Bushie had 8 years to take care of business. 2, 8, who's counting, right?
Feisty. What was it McConnell said was his first priority after the 2010 election?
Why, wasn't it something along the lines of 'his' job was to make sure Obama is a ONE term President?
As you can see from the comments, the right wing nuts don't like it much when we fight fire with fire...
ONE TERM OBAMA was his battle cry. THAT is job ONE! NOT US All! NOt the economy, the deficit or the debt. Just beating OBAMA, abortion clinic shutdowns, killing Unions and 'protecting' marriage.
Economic Priorities are not their strong suit it seems; unless you can cough up gazillions to buy them that is.
Patrick, And following Rush's pronouncment on Jan 21, 2009.........I want this President to fail.
Lordy, they have selective and very short memories.....for elephants.
Feisty,Missy,Ginger. Spot on. Ginger, their memories are fine, they just have a problem with the truth.
Missy, dear, what part of immigration, and Obama's new/old fixation on it, related to "economic prioritieses?"
Do you find it troublesome that Obama is not focusing on jobs or the economy, but rather immigration. And wasn't immigration [and the whole Si se puede] his meme in '07 and '08?
You did fully support Bush when he tried to get amnesty through, right Missy. Bush was doing the right thing then , correct?
Missy, how are things in TX?
Spanky. you have it backwards, it is the conservatives who are not focused on jobs. Which is why they will lose in 2012.
Hey there Spank,
Things are hot and muggy down here. Thanks for being so kind as to ask. I know that is where the kindness stops so let's get at it.
First, we are ALL imigrants in that Native Americans are the only true Americans in the context of this North American continent.
Now that that fact is on the table. Another to add is that we are all tied, all issues are tied, all actions taken are tied together in our moniker; WE ARE The United States of America. We are especially tied together economically, ALL OF US! When I look at the jobs numbers I say "There but by the grace of God go all of us." That is protective collective thinking though and you aren't really into that are ya Spank?
And finally, yes, I supported Bush in his effort to get immigration reform done. We are a melting pot; always have been, always will be. By mere definition if by nothing else. Sad W couldn't get that done either.
That would be the strain on health and emergency services the conservatives are constatntly whining about. Or the education inequities. Or the inflated unemployment numbers. To name but a few.
All of these things, the economy, jobs, the deficit, immigration are inter-related. Which is but one reason why leaders need to be more than one issue, one dimensional figures.
Missy I do declare I cannot follow what you are trying to say. Maybe next time dear. I did get the melting pot comment. It sure was true - when the country needed workers. Now we don't - too many already unemployed. Plus all we get through illegal immigration is uneducated and low skilled, which just brings the economy down. Especially the middle class you all so love - it's their jobs that get replaces.
Not too many illegals practicing medicine, law, accounting, or acting as corporate managers.
Fielden - the illegals are a huge drain. Education inequities come from resource allocation. Take a look at LA - so much of the money goes to ESL programs. Plus illegals are a hot bed of poverty, crime and just not that focused on education.
So fielden why is it that so many democrats will not support immigration reform? Is it they don't want it/don't believe in it, or is it they just know it will get them un-elected real fast?
And which is worse?
Missy. Do not let Spanky get to you, he is being intentionally patronising. It is just a tactic.
No way I loves me some Missy. As evidenced by my trying to engage her. Sadly, she is only usually good for the initial comment, which is more often than not a swipe at conservatives, but not so much any measured or reasoned response.
But hey, she is trying, so there is that.
But tell you what Patrick how's about you [or that parakeet of yours] translate what old Missy was trying to say above? I especially loved the "protective collective thinking" comment. God only knows. Or maybe it's a Texas libbie thing?
Can you take a shot Pat? That would be great.
Oh and let me assure you it is not a tactic. Character flaw maybe, but definitely not a tactic.
Spank. Sorry you could not understand, it seems pretty self explanatory. Give it another try, like the nuns used to say, try, try, try, again.
Aw, come on Patrick, help a brother out. I just want to engage with Missy. She seems fun.
Although it did take me about a year to be able to figure Bev. out. So there is hope I suppose.
Spanky, You figured Bev out???!!! I've given up, her non-sensical rants just make my head hurt!
Feisty redhead. This president gets absolutely no criticism compared to what the left did to president Bush so stop your whining. Obama has his share of faults and has made his share of mistakes so in some things he should be criticized.
By the way, why does the left always whine and scream horrible names at those whose opinion differs from theirs?
getalifevirginia, you have to be kidding, omg, your last paragraph was silly. I have never in all my life seen a Pres. and even before he became Pres. the names and put downs thrown at Obama, one being that he is a terrorist, and according to Beck, the same as Hitler, and that he doesn't like white people (Beck said this, no lie). This was not politics, this was a personal vandetta.
Because the party of pale male & stale cannot stand to see a black man in the White House!
the names and put downs he is called are from the American people !!!not the media...They protect him...If you voted for Obama in 2008 to show you are not a racist..you better find someone else to vote for in 2012 to show you are not an IDIOT!!!
LOL Scrossusmc you said it perfectly
What do you mean "Campaign Like" This was a campaign speech. No substance, attack on the Republicans, Non't look at me I'm with you kind of speech.
It was nothing but politics! But Latinos are wise to him now. We have the ability to tell when we are being BS"ed.... Yes We Can. We also know how to say "Take a hike"..Yes We Can.
Why does something have to be EITHER a campaign speech OR something else. It can be both.
Reminding the people, to whom immigration reform matters, that he did exactly what the Republicans wanted as a condition for immigration reform and that they still have no intention of moving on the subject is something more Presidents and politicians should do.
I'd like to see politicians holding rallies informing their constituents of how certain groups of politicians are obstructing important issues through their refusal to work together.
The fact that that also works to enhance voting and popularity is a great benefit.
Lois: Thanks. Keep spreading this truth.
Comprehensive Immigration Reform, aka you can be a citizen as long as you Register as a Democrat. Who does Obama think he is kidding. He has -0- interest in securing the border. A moat with Alligators?????
He's authorized increased border patrol and INS hiring as well as ordering the deployment of National guard to the border. Additionally he authorized further construction of physical barriers. These were the things the Republicans requested before they said they'd come back to talk about immigration.
Do you even bother reading up on anything? Or just assuming that because its posted that he did something you must take the opposite stance.
Wow Matt...You must drink a lot of kool aid. Because Obama not cutting the increase in the number of border agents authorized by Bush is not the same as Obama himself increasing their numbers. Of course the directive issued by the Obama adminstration ordering those agents to NOT arrest or detain most illegal aliens undermines the positive effect of having more agents. Plus the Obama administration has ordered border agents to first use less than lethal ammo when defending themselves. If that doesn't work...THEN the border agents can use real bullets.
As far as Obama sending the National Guard to the border... big deal...so did Bush... and they both pulled the same worthless stunt by not allowing the National Guard to carry weapons or to be involved in the apprehension of illegal aliens.
Point out one additional inch of physical barrier that Obama authorized. The truth is Obama and the progressives stripped away all of the funding to construct the border fence.
But all is not lost......
In trying to protect the citizens of this country from the growing invasion of illegal aliens, Arizona has plans to build the fence despite the Obama administration defunding the federal project. Anyone can (and everyone should) donate money for the construction of the border fence here http://www.keepazsafe.com/ ... what better way to demonstrate to those in D.C. that they do, in fact, still work for us! And as their employer.... if we want a fence built to better secure the border...we will damn well build it!
I thought we all still had 1st Amendment rights; even the President...
Here is a thought, instead of a Moat with Alligators how about just stop suing the States who will secure the border! Vote for commonsense in 2012!
Unfortunately, commonsense is not on the ballot.
While they are supposedly in the back of the line, where is this line? Here in the US or their country of origin?
How would they enforce it? . Do you need to speak English before entering? People have been here for years and the only thing they can say is yes and no, not sure how that would work. Also, what about the ones that have been waiting for years?
Sounds like a boondoggle and not to fair. So many questions.
The back of the line starts in their country of origin and they need to know english before they can become citizens. As for the people already here as far as I'm concerned they lost their rite to citizenship when they illegally entered the country so they should be deported.
Businesses have to be held accountable as well if it wasn't for their love of cheap labor, these people couldn't get jobs. So you have to punish the Businesses as well with hefty fines at 1st and repeat offenders should lose there licenses to do business in the state they were penalized in.
Wow...pass the babies and let me kiss them, por favor ! His pandering is insulting.
Wow!! A politician who panders!! Can you say Trump?
I guess it's who is being pandered to that must matter more. We aren't dissing Bachmann or any of the other myriad of panderers playing to the Tee'd party on here now, are we?
Obama is "El Gran Simulador," among other things. This is the POTUS bungee jumping from Special/Black Ops getting Osama into Hispanic voting crowd...and trying to surf it.
Everything he says and does is for reelection. He came to NY last week for a 9/11 photo shoot. Today he is on the illegal immigration side. A president stands for election only, not American people. Go figure!
How is speaking about one of the most important issues to a large swath of the population purely for reelection? The fact that Republicans are blocking any attempt at reforming immigration is important and people should know that. Alot of people may have accidentally voted for a Republican, not realizing that they are a bigoted obstructionist.
Reminding people why they voted for Obama and how ideologically different he is then the conservatives is important, and so what if it happens to also be useful in getting re-elected?
Because that's the way he rolls.
Hey Mr. President keep up the good work you are a very very smart man. you did something none or the past President could do is to kill the most want man in the whole wide world WOW!!. Please don't worry about the Donald duck running for President he not a USA citizen you will fine here Birth certificate Russia. I guarantee!HA!!HA!! HA!!. Hair on his head is so heavy he will sank before he get started.HA!!HA!!HA!!
Obama showed great character and courage in his speech on immigration reform. The GOP is motivated by hatred and greed. They find nothing wrong with exploiting so called illegal immigrants, but everything wrong with granting these immigrants a path to citizenship.
This must be the backup squad of republican paid posters?
LOL - they've worn out their 'A & B' team and are now on the 'C' team!
It's not even challenging anymore! ;o)
RVZ. No he did not, he is asking us to vote for him as opposed to whoever the republican candiate will be. Not sure who the Anglo bastards are you are refering to.
Say, aren't you the whiny b!tch who's always raving about the race card?
Except for when it's convenient I see... lol
Feisty, which string of libbie hero are you?
my husband was deported cause he came in illegally. he has no criminal record. he speaks english. he is a christian. he has 2 handicap sisters, 1 paraplegic 1 mentally disabled. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE for a honduras citizen to get a visa to come to america, especially if they are poor. so people please stop saying "if they would just enter legally" and instead say "if the government would just allow latinos a fighting chance to even recieve visas". thank you and God bless
Nicely said, kalle.
Someone should totally file a claim with Holder. You can't just go and willy/nilly deport a Christian, can you?
But you know - you can't get deported if you don't come here illegally. Kinda like you might get thrown out/arrested if you break into someone's house.
I bet even Jody has a lock on her front door. Jody why do you insist on keeping people out of your house, and why is that different than us trying to keep out the illegals?
RVZ -- yes, she is saying something close to that. Look at immigation policy. Citizens of certain countries are favored (think Cuba, Viet Nam). People with money are favored (think of Rupert Murdoch, who got a fast-track citizenship so he could own FOX), people who can find family here are favored for relocation. People who have some "skill" we deem in short supply (educators, for example). But we don't allow people with manual labor experience in. If people could get a visa that way, they would. That's why we need immigration REFORM: as it is, immigration is a political tool.
So Kate do we need more manual laborers? Do we get to have a say so in who gets in?
We need educated, skilled workers. We do not need uneducated, unskilled workers.
We are not obligated to take all comers. The pie is only so big, and right now it is shrinking.
Oh and look at Murdock - how many people does he employ? That is a really good thing, right kate?
How much were you paid to marry an illegal so that he could stay here? ILLEGAL = CRIMINAL, PERIOD!!!
deborah z 1802803 i wasnt paid anything. me and my husband have been together for 8 years. if you read correctly you will see i said he is deported. me being married to him didnt stop that. it is a sin to accuse people. i forgive you and i hope God does also. God bless
Deport all these illegal alien/invaders. If at every opportunity you enforce the law and deport illegal aliens from jobs, schools, and whenever they have contact with law enforcement, the word would get around and sooner rather than later self deportation would start occuring. The law is the law and sneaking in here or being here illegally is against the law. Now let me go smoke this joint real quick and I'll think of some real cool stuff and be back later...NO AMNESTY, NO AMNESTY, NO AMNESTY and boycott illegal aliens, anchor babies, chain migration, and anything illegal, including the "NIGHTMARE ACT".
um i think the end of kevin qs comment speaks for itself. i will pray for you friend. God bless
Every country is like that. Try getting to live in Tahiti, Unless your a doctor or a Vet your stuck!
I'm sorry about your husband but he was here Illegally and should have been deported. Knowing he's illegal he probably only married because he thought it would keep him from being deported.
kalle-3452999, Start packing, I'm sure your husband will be glad to see you in Honduras when you get there. If you were a good wife, you would go to Honduras to be with him and help him take care of his 2 sisters. The law is pretty much non-existent down there so you shouldn't have a problem sneaking in and staying there. The law here says nothing about latinos or any nationality, it just says ILLEGAL. I don't care if you're green, blue, pink, or orange, or if you're Chinese, English, Spanish or whatever, if you come here illegally and get caught here illegally you need to be arrested and deported. If you don't like the laws here in the US, you are free to leave anytime and go where you want to go and break all the laws you want, when you want too. There is a system in place for him to come here legally and don't tell me you can't because in the mid 90's I sponsored a friend of mine and his family to come here from El Salvador. So unless you're too lazy to do that, it is possible. Your comment speaks for itself. I will pray for you friend. God bless!!
I still say, "NO AMNESTY, NO AMNESTY, NO AMNESTY and boycott illegal aliens, anchor babies, chain migration, and anything illegal, including the "NIGHTMARE ACT".
The world according to tea-publicans is that when former President Bush went to other parts of the country and gave speeches (which he did often), he was just dropping by to say "howdy".
How many citizens and FR posters who complain about illegals pick strawberries, lettuce, and other fruits and vegetables for a living? How many of those complainers eat those same strawberries, etc. and enjoy the relatively low price? It is easy to blame President Obama for the problem--while ignoring that Obama has actually increased the crackdown on employers which hire illegals and deported more illegals than Bush--than it is to ask why during the 11 years the GOP held the majority in the House and most of those years also the Senate plus the 6 years they held the House, Senate and White House the GOP didn't fix the immigration problem? Democrats were willing to work with them. The reason they didn't is clear and we see it in the conservative posts here--if the GOP had fixed it, they couldn't demonize a group that is exploited or make it a campaign slogan every two years.
It's time for both parties to simply get busy and fix the immigration system.
How many go the hospital, or use other services overrun by illegals Jody? What is the increased costs to the prisons and school systems Jody? How many Mexican gangs in your area?
Gosh Jody, just how did those berries get picked in the olden days?
Jody we have 9% unemployment. Would adding 9 million more workers help, or hurt that figure? Why do you want a flood of low skilled workers? Should we not strive to get high skilled workers instead?
And Jody did you forget Bush's push for amnesty? Did that fail because of republican backlash, or you think there was some democratic push back?
Jody?
Same as now. But in the olden days they didn't have immigration laws, so farms could hire all the immigrant workers they wanted.
Ah, good times. Plus no unemployment insurance. Course back then a teenager could get a job with no problem.
Now, not so much. Too many unskilled, uneducated illegals around.
Wouldn't it be more intelectually honest for the GOP to say, "If you're an immigrant, legal or not, you're not welcome here."?
Gosh Noid that's just silly. Or are you aware of some backlash against legal, skilled workers?
illegal is illegal.
Da Noid. The truth is, major tech businesses have asked for waivers to bring highly trained workers into the US. Two reasons. First, conservatives have decimated our school system to the point where we do not have enough qualified high tech employees. Second, but more importantly, foreign workers are cheaper.
So Patrick are you a math whiz, or did the mean old conservatives decimate your school?
So Patrick, you can agree that the Department of Education has been a complete failure under any Presidents stewardship and should be abolished. Then the money can be block granted to the states to be put toward education instead of bureaucracy.
Spanky. Nuns and Christian Brothers school.
Kirby. No
Well see there Patrick those evil bastards didn't do anything to your school. The good catholics paid you way.
That's great.
Well then, pray tell how the education dept has made our education system better?
And if the colleges and universties are so awful, why do other countries send their students to them?
The answer is simple. Other countries educate in their primary school systems and we don't. And it ain't money, eleswise Washington DC would have the best educated kids in the country.
democrats are idiots, and i hope a mexican takes their childrens jobs, and when the kids come crying and the debt is exuberrant you can say you did this
democrats are evil
Mass graves found with hundreds of dead bodies from drug cartel violence and O-Lame-a goes down and cracks jokes about the GOP. The "man" is a certified MORON.
He also has little or no common sense and is campaign mode.
Patrick, you have got to be joking. Do you believe everything you hear or read??? From your remarks you do, and you know, I have this great bridge for sale in San Francisco.
I have absolutely no problem with people immigrating to the US. Who in their right mind wouldn't want to escape grinding poverty?.
The problem is that when they come here they refuse to learn the language of commerce, English, and they refuse to assimilate. My view, you want to come to the United States, welcome, but be part of the US.
And no citizenship for illegals, not now or ever.
And no citizenship for illegals, not now or ever.
Amen!!!!!!
im sorry rvz555 im sure its not just latinos but i was just commenting on my families personal struggles. although, i do see latinos getting the brunt of this issue, ALL immigrants are suffering and i am so sorry for those suffering. i pray everyday it will get better. thank you and God bless
This was indeed a campaign speech and Obama should have to pay the expenses for the trip out of his war chest and not be a further burden on tax paying Americans.
thank you jody iowa, kate, and others for your support God bless :)
AMERICANS!!!!! After this speach today, it should now be crystal clear to everyone that Obama, does NOT understand the full consequences of the Illegal Immigration Problem in this country,.....OR,.....MAYBE he does,..... but he does NOT really care!!!??? Only about his Re-election!!! WE NOW KNOW, THAT IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT OBAMA AND HIS OUT OF TOUCH WITH REALITY ASSOCIATES NEED TO BE BOOTED OUT OF OFFICE SO WE CAN GET THIS COUNTRY TURNED AROUND AND PROBLEMS SOLVED!!! We can No longer afford to have a Out-Of-Control Idealistic Liberal as President!!! All informed Americans now know that the Illegal Immigration Problem is (1) One Of Two Or Three Economic Issues which is the Root Cause of our State Budgets Crisis, and Unemployment Problems and Crime related Problems,....all costing this country Trillions of U.S., Dollars each year that We just don't have, any longer!!!!??? OUT WITH OBAMA, AND OUT WITH THE 20 MILLION ILLEGAL ALIENS!!!!!! GH
Eight years of a Republican president and six years of a Republican Congress with no results on immigration. Hell he got Osama when you guys couldn't/wouldn't. The impossible takes a while, miracles take a little longer
Good God have you seen the current crop of Republican candidates? Yikes...Even as a conservative I wouldn't vote for any of them. They all represent the same old tired ideas and ways of doing things. Obamas not much better.. I liked his comment about the border being safer now than ever...what a load of BS...if anything that border is more dangerous than it has ever been. Kidnappings, murders right across the border there in Juarez.
