One day before the first Republican presidential debate, the 2012 field is still developing. Today, Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels (R), a potential -- but not yet declared -- Republican presidential candidate commented on the slow start to 2012 and the opportunity for more entrants to the race.
"I think that even people far more sage than I about our political process and presidential process are very surprised that on May the 4th, it's not already far too late, but for whatever reason it's not," Daniels told the audience gathered for his speech at the conservative American Enterprise Institute.
"I consider that from the stand point of the public a blessing," Daniels added, "Unless you're a political professional or running a bed and breakfast in New Hampshire, it's a darn good thing that we'll have a campaign measured in months, a nomination campaign measured in months and not in years."
Daniels' speech was focused on recent education reforms passed in his home state that expand charter schools and vouchers, aim to improve teacher quality, and limit collective bargaining to wages and benefits.
He praised President Obama and his administration on education policy. "Most of what I've talked about so far and much of what I will is strongly supported by the Obama administration. I salute the president, Secretary Duncan," Daniels continued. "They're right about these things. They have had the courage to, in many cases, irritate some of their allies."
On the death of Osama bin Laden, Daniels wasn't critical of the president, as some of the other potential presidential candidates have been over the past few days. "This was a very significant achievement, tremendously powerful from a symbolic standpoint," he said.

Please by all means jump in the cess pool with the rest of the clowns Mitch!
The Teapulican brand these days is as tainted as Chinese Dog Food!
Mitch, it will be if you keep waiting on the sidelines....and also, you are not being vocal enough... you need to rattle the saber cage... say Obama is a muslim, alien or something....you better hurry up buddy b4 you lose your base.
No kidding Tunde! lol
I commented earlier, that should Huntsman decide to run - he'll never make it out of IA!
He's NOT bat sh!t crazy enough to satisfy 'the' 'base'!
Run Mitch. We can decide if you or Pawlenty is the most boring.
Daniels has been posturing for the GOP/TP for some time with his political actions - it is a bit like a bodybuilder standing before a mirror checking how the oil looks when flexing the abs.
However, his national name ID is very low. He is becoming more vulnerable to an opposition campaign to "define" him negatively. About all he has going for him now is the continuing crazy clown circus with the other candidates - he may be able in some ways to set himself apart from the zanier nut jobs.
We shouldn't be complacent. The fiscal and social right, if it succeeds in developing a viable candidate, will absolutely make a hard run at President Obama. Right now, they haven't got such a person. Be assured they are looking high and low - is Daniels a possibility?
I may have a heart attack this year listening to all these nutjobs but Jon Stewart and all the other great commedians will help to keep me balanced.
Barb.H,
Did you see John Stewart's "Royal wedding and after party video" last night! I highly recommend it. Not for the faint of heart but very funny.
I'm stock piling *popcorn* as we speak! ;o)
Get more popcorn for this one. Very funny!

So another clown is entering the "Carnival OF Clowns" gathering under the big top for 2012. This just another "Super Spewer" with his newly washed clown outfit given to him by "Nutty Newt." This "Gross Odd Person" (GOP) is mentally ill to think for one minute that he can run against the President. Now "Dumpy Daniels" can lead debate with the other "Gross Odd People all he wants, and think that he is politically powerful. Everyone has to have a dream, and sometimes dreams come true. For Daniels his dream of his will have a polltically destructive ending. I wonder if he can hear the circus music already?? Can hear the poltical rantings of his fellow spewers under the big top?? I doubt it America.
A cheer to Govenor Daniels for his honest statement about President Obama's success in finding and killing Osama bin Laden and for praising our President and the Secretary of Education. It would be nice if Daniels could convince his fellow conservatives that education should be a priority and not put on the chopping block.
The candidates may not have officially declared but they've been filling the NH Bed & Breakfasts and Iowa Hotels since last fall. Santorum has been in Iowa more than 30 times since January. It seems to me there's plenty of candidates running but they they just aren't sure where they're going. Daniels is correct, it isn't too late for more entrants to run but what he's really saying is he hopes more viable candidates consider it. I doubt Mitch Daniels will jump into the 2012 race.
If he does jump in the Republican primary race, he should take the lead on the same day.
Three words:
Run, Mitch, run!
Oh look! No jo is positively swooning with the very thought that Mitch Daniels might run!
Not too late ... hmmmmm ...
Brilliant!!! He's clearly the front-runner. ;-)
Many thanks to all for your very warm welcome! I dropped out to go out for a short time and returned to what for me is a much appreciated entree to your group of undoubtedly accomplished posters.
From this reading: Real Clear Politics writes. “On one end of the spectrum is Huntsman, who has held a number of foreign jobs, and on the other is Michele Bachmann, who has just a few years of experience in the House and has been prone to gaffes. The rest of the field is somewhere in between, but they tend to fall closer to Bachmann's level of experience than Huntsman's.” new Quinnipiac poll shows that no potential candidates in the Republican presidential field breaks 20 percent, according to Bloomberg. Mitt Romney leads the pack with 18 percent. The Daily Caller has this tough headline: “Mitch Daniels isn’t ready to be president” I stand to reason that there's not many bright lights in the Republican party. And given the lower standards of the TEA party(ie:Palin/Bachmann) there might be real reason to worry. The sad part is there is the Toxic talking heads and their continued negative spewing may actually spur the really gullible to get out the vote. See this:
Mitch Daniels - Office of Management and Budget under George W. Bush. He had a lousy teacheer.
His second term as Governor of Indianna saw a large drop in State revenues, leading to major spending cuts to maintain a balanced budget. B
ills were enacted, creating a statewide school voucher program, restricting collective bargaining rights for teachers and instituting a merit pay system for public school personnel. A stronger abortion regulation law was enacted that outlawed abortions after twenty weeks of pregnancy, state funding was withdrawn from all healthcare providers that offered abortion services, and the corporate income tax rate was lowered.
The 'Cabbage Patch Governor' is simply saying that the Republican Party is still in too much debt (from the 2010 elelctions) to begin the launch of a serious candidate. Maybe they will send in Paul Ryan to 'straighten things out'. They can't raise taxes on the rich...they pay for their political campaigns!
And, all the other candidates say "Bush's Budget Director! Say, how did your cost-estimate on Bush's invasion of Iraq turn out, there, sport?"
