Subscribe to RSSNot one U.S. Senator has told NBC News that they have seen the official Osama bin Laden death photo. Many, who attended the CIA Director Leon Panetta briefings, say they were not shown in those sessions. Senate Intelligence Committee Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein says no senators have seen the photos. Feinstein adds she believes a fake has circulated.
Here's the confusion: Three senators -- Sens. Scott Brown (R-MA), Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), and Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), all Republicans on the Armed Services Committee, said they had seen a picture of the deceased bin Laden, but now are backing off.
Brown's office is backtracking and says the photo he referred to was not authentic. Brown agrees with President Obama and opposes the release.
Chambliss says he would make a judgment after he sees the picture but is concerned about the impact of distributing the death picture.
"I was shown a photo by an individual that was represented to be a photo of bin Laden after he'd been shot," Chambliss said. "It appeared to be an accurate photo. It was not an official photo."
Ayotte said she was shown a photo by another senator on an electronic device. Ayotte said she believed the photo depicted a deceased bin Laden. Now, her office says she is not sure if the image she was shown is legitimate.
"I was shown a photo," Ayotte said. "I don't know whether its authentic. It appeared obviously to look like Osama bin laden but I can't verify whether its authentic or not."
Ayotte differs from the president and supports the release of the official death photo. She is the former attorney general of her home state and her husband Joe Daley is an Iraq war veteran.
NBC's Chuck Todd reported on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams that, according to multiple administration sources, "No senator has been shown a photo."

If a realistic fake is already circulating among senators, it just goes to show that releasing the photo would be a useless gesture. Pres. Obama made the right call to not release it.
Why would a "faked" photograph of a dead Usama be presented to Republican Senators and then denied to have happened, even by the witnesses who had originally claimed to have seen it?

I don't mind calling a Politician a liar, but I've heard enough from Navy Seal sources to convince me Osama is dead. If anyone wants to call a Navy Seal a liar, to their face, make sure someone is taking pictures ;-)

I don't know but I trust Reuters, who purchased and published them. I realize they may not be however they look pretty realistic to me. You make your own assumptions. Reuters is pretty credible!
Didn't Obama want the Iraqi prison pictures released? He knew it would cause anger but he still wanted them released. Why suddenly is he so worried about anger now?
No, it just goes to show you that the excuse for not releasing it is bunk. As long as fakes circulate like wildfire, the potential for inflamed feelings amongst terrorists and their sympathizers will always be there. So stop using that bunk excuse. The decision by Obama to release information that he was unarmed, that females were shot or killed, that his young daughter was forced to watch the attack, are more inflammatory in the Muslim world than any photos of a bloody ben Laden would ever be and have done more damage and put our troops at risk, regardless of any photos. And stop calling me and anyone else who wants the photos a "republican".
First off the Abu Graib pictures were released under Bush. Second, why on earth would Obama ask the SEALs to lie when most Americans had already given up on catching Bin Laden. That would totally ruin the SEALs reputation and I don't think they would be part of it. Third, why go to all this trouble for a ruse? It makes no sense.
I only can speak for myself but if they do not release the photo I for one will be skeptical. I do not trust the government to be honest with its citizens because history has shown they have abuse trust with cover ups and misleadings. Obama is making a grave mistake by not releasing them but this is expected from a government such as ours. I want to be the judge for myself not some political head saying he is only looking out for me. I know better
Paul: It wasn't "released" to Senators...read the story. One Senator showed it to another. There's a fake photo-shopped photo of Bin Laden (done very poorly) that's been making email rounds. That has nothing to do with the real deal which has not apparantly been released.
I have no problem with wholesale dissemination of the pictures.

Melo, I think the Abu Graib pictures were leaked, at least some were leaked. Bush didn't know the soldiers did this. As the few pictures became available there was an angry outcry everywhere and from what I remember Obama was one of many who said that all pictures should be shown.

Just this evening I received an obviously fake photo of a dead, bloody headshot Osama. Some people are very sick.

People have been warned to watch out for fake photos of a dead bin Laden, and here we have at least three republican senators seduced to believe the images are real. I would expect this from Fox News viewers,who believe anything shoved in their face, but U.S. senators. Oh my!

As opposed to Democrats, which could be shown a drawing from a toddler, then lie about seeing "the real photos". Your side is no better, bud.
This only goes to show why the real photos should be released, and people shouldn't simply go by "what the Congress might say if shown". They couldn't even tell forgeries, and got fooled by em. What does that say about their cedability in telling fact from fiction on the matter.
But I still say, it isn't so much about whether he's dead or not... For me it has a lot to do with 1. closure, and 2. the "feelings" of terrorists shouldn't be the guilding principle by which we base our decisions. The representatives are supposed to represent and give voice to the American people, you know the one's who elected them into those offices in the first place. They shouldn't be representing or giving voice to the views of the terrorists, over their own constituents. And by constituent I mean the American voter NOT just the PAC or lobbiests.
I'm actually tired of being told to just suck it up and be more sensitive to the feelings of those who hate us, and would kill us anyhow, simply because our existence is an offence to them. I'm tired of being told to simply turn the other cheek, even when they attack us. And I'm tired of being told, that if we, the American people should be offended by their own actions, or this while PC consciousness being pushed upon us should we have any thought or sentiment about what they did to us, we're just racis (some argued that on the whole ground 0 mosque debate), or somehow the villian these terrorsts are. Most of all I'm tired of being told that simply because we don't blow things up, when offended, offending us is OK and doesn't matter; as if only the terrorists sentiments mattered in anything. Well screw the terrorists, the more I hear that (and we've heard it more then a few years), the more disgusted I become.
It's not my fault if they would get all upity about Mohamed cartoons even; and unlike a civilized person wouuld resort to killing people over it, rather then simply speaking their mind. And I for one don't chose to bend over, and take it up the posterior, like some kind of a puss, simply because these terrorists are bad people who would just assume see everyone but a convert to their way of thinking, in the Middle East or the West, dead anyhow.
All the more reason TO RELEASE the photo, not withhold it!
If Congress and Senators are being faked out by photo-shopped images, the REAL thing needs to be put out there once and for all.
In this day and age of the internet and electronic communication, the photos WILL surface anyway, it is merely a matter of time. There will be no outcry.

Look, I'm sure the guy is dead, but it does fuel conspiracy theories that no photos will be released, not even congress is privy to the pics and his body is at the bottom of the sea. That's kind of the problem with not releasing the photos...somebody else will release their own version. You're not keeping the military or overseas workers safer. There are already several versions of photos out there that are being passed off to the Arab people as the real thing. They are being used just like the real ones might be.
The photo showing the supposedly dead Bin Laden has been on the internet for almost 2 years now. It's already been thoroughly debunked by various organizations. I'll provide the link to one of the sites but a simple Google search of "Bin Laden fake pic" will get you 8 million more.

I'm glad that they won't release the photos. Have you seen a dead person with gunshot to the head with brain matter scattered everywhere? It's not pretty. I've seen it in Iraq and I've also seen it working in the ER. There is a reason why pictures are not released. You might not care if it gets posted all over the news and internet just so it can satisfy your perverted sick mind but other people do mind. People complain about violence and sex on television that gets easily exposed to kids but that common sense just gets thrown out the window just so they can see Osama's dead body.

Hey guys, I never saw a photograph of the late Liz Taylor spread out on the mortuary slab, nor did I see one of Michael Jackson. So what's a ghoulish photo got to do with anything . . . unless you forgot to put tin-foil inside your ball cap this morning, or have misplaced your meds.

How would Al Qaeda KNOW whether he was really killed of just captured? Only his wife was in the room with him and she had been shot in the leg...........she would have no idea whether he was faking his own death with our help.

I personally do not believe in Mr. Obama's agenda, but I do believe It would be political suicide for this not to be true. If he was to pop up someplace the Dems would not hold an office for a long time. So he has to be dead...or in a triple-double top secret cell under area 51 with the little grey guys. I do believe he is in fact dead; and don't see a reason to make this up. But seeing something more tangeable then a politicians words isn't just about that. A parent might get news from the police that their son was killed, but no body could be presented. And for the parents, for more then a few years to come, well....
They can know in their minds there was no reason for the police to lie, they can believe them intellectually; but on another level, it's just not over. Not when there is no body for a funeral, not when they can't see something (other then just words), not when they can't have closure. And as to 9/11, we as a country were hit, and hit hard. I remember that day; and I also remember that when the students finally were able to go to class (for hours our eyes were fixed to the TV, watching images of the planes hitting the towers, and none went to class); our professors walkd to the podium, took attendance. And then? Simply said "I can't do this right now, class dismissed".
We deserve to see something tangeable, and we deserve something more then the words of a politician, followed by words from other politicians who were fooled into thinking that faked photos were real, because they couldn't tell the difference. Something tangeable, has value beyond simply knowing if he's dead or not. And certainly when; ya know, the terrorists weren't the victims in 9/11 who should be getting all the sympathy, all the consideration, and all the sensitivities. We were the ones who were fricken attacked. It was we who got hit by this, and the Osamas, and his followers and fellow suicide bombers were the culprit/the guilty party. So we're to be denied something tangeable, something which could serve to give closure to the counrty; simply because people who hate us will get offended. The twitter world had a fake death photo up within hours of the announcement of OBL's death. It was obviously a fake and quickly denounced by multiple sources. Suspect this "fake" is one of that ilk. It pays to check sources doesn't it.
Most senators could not tell a fake photo from a real one of themselves, especially if it depicted them with a stripper.

But this deal about a Bin Ladin death photo is crazy. I don't understand why a senator or congressperson couldn't see the original if they wanted to. These would be the representatives of the people and let them then decide if the photos should be made public. Probably half the internet users have seen photos that are supposedly real already, but obviously from this article are fakes. It's one thing to go public and children seeing them along with everyone else, but I have no problem with representatives and doesn't matter if I voted for them or not, looking at the real deal. If nothing else, would shut the mealy mouthed republicans up if they saw pictures and video with an official military seal on them.
