Update your calendars: The NBC-Politico-Reagan Library GOP presidential debate has been moved from Sept. 14 to Sept. 7.
“After consulting with a number of the campaigns about our September debate, we’ve made the decision to move it up one week to September 7, 2011,” said John Heubusch, executive director for the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation, in a news release. “This new date works better for the campaigns, and positions the Reagan Library debate as the first stop post-Labor Day when campaigns are in full swing and voter interest is high.”

So you're counting on someone to actually declare by then? lol
Isn't there a debate scheduled for this Friday? If so, who's committed to showing up?
How Poetic, they can gather around Ronnie Rayguns Library & Scream about How President Barrack Hussein Obama, stole the Thunder of National Security from them!
ROFLMAO!
Here's some *popcorn* Rick - Nice & HOT!
Feisty, in my Lifetime there has been 2 WorldWide Terrorist!
1: Colonel Gadafi who is holedup inside his Own Country dodging Bombs.
&
2:Osama Bin-Laden, who was Killed this past Sunday.
The man responsible for both these decisions:
President Barrack Hussein Obama!
1 down, 1 To Go!
I think what this Really Shows is the Incompetancy of NBC/MSNBC/Politico for trying to set the debate for the Republicans when infact none of these Left leaning Liberal outlets has any say in when a Debate should be set.
As i said before. Each and everyone of the Republican Candidates should tell these propoganda Outlets no we wont participate in your Debate.
Really, Steve? Disengaging from the conversation with the left is an effective tactic?
That's about as stupid as the FR regulars pigeoning what a great idea it would be to mimic GOP campaign tactics in 2012.
It's better to move the GOP debate as far away from Sept 11 as possible. After Bush and the GOP allowed the 911 attacks to happen and failed for eight years to find OBL. At least they can be proud of their torture program that produced nothing but hatred for America and disgust from patriotic Americans. Or maybe not.
Feisty,
I said it before - I don't believe they'll put up a serious candidtate - they'll just wait till 2016 when they have a better chance of winning. Barbour figured it out and others will too.
I think you're on to something Ursula! ;o)
I know one thing for sure - it's going to be a certified FREAK show on the right!
I think you're right, Ursula.
Allow me to be the first to say "who cares?"...:)
Fools do rush in...
...to the podium to yammer on about nothing but talking points. Why bother watching, we know what the swill be. We've heard it ALL before and can recite it by heart. (something the opposition can't do since they have no heart)
I'm with Feisty, I doubt they'll have many authentic candidates even by then.
Chicken Hawks.
Oh, please tell me that Palin and Bachmann will be there! Can you imagine what a show that will be? Two crazies trying to outcrazy each other! Feisty, Rick, pass the popcorn, please!
And don't forget Trump? Can't you imagine a debate about birth certificates and that "other"-ism, not to mention college grades, secret Muslim.
I DID forget Trump, Jody, thanks for the reminder! The entertainment value will be through the ROOF!
What happens if there are debates and primaries but no one wants to run? I know, far fetched, but no one seems very eager to officially throw their name in the pot. What if no reasonable conservative wants to run in 2012 and the only ones who do are the ones like Trump.
Then that casts the conservative party of this country in an even poorer light in addition to disappointing and disheartening the center-right voting bloc of the American electorate.
It took me a moment to recall that Bob Dole was the 1996 candidate the GOP ran until I started thinking about Dr. Pepper and Viagra - how sad is it that those are the only things I can associate with the Republican front runner put out against Clinton? Of course, I don't know if the fault there is one of a lackluster message, poor memory on my part, or a combination of the two.
ED. If you recall, the GOP began to push Dole as a possible candidate by early 1994, rebuttals to State of the Union, etc. I'm not sure I think Dole ran in 1992 and lost just as McCain lost to Bush and won in 2008 and Romney lost to McCain. The GOP tends to take the 2nd place winner and push them for the next election.
But isn't the problem here the lack of a consistent, clear and energizing message? Something that would galvanize conservatives? In my opinion, the Libertarian Party owes the fact it's even acknowledged to the inability of the GOP to separate the political minefield laid by its religious membership from its discussion of fiscal affairs. Speaking as someone who agrees more often than not with right-wing economics, I do not understand what relevance certain issues (abortions, gay marriage rights and the attempt to paint the entirety of the nation as an organism that ought always to be prostrate before God) have when compared to the very real need to promote economic growth within our borders.
The red herrings the Republican party insists on throwing to the public (and I am NOT suggesting the Democrats aren't equally guilty) every two years is insulting to America's collective intelligence, educated conservatives in particular. Worse still is that this huge culture of distraction that's slowly grown like that slime mold in the corner of the gym shower room is, I think, diminishing our intelligence and certainly putting a damper on our ability to engage in reasoned debate about differences of opinion with fellow citizens.
I cannot help but think of Sharron Angle's asinine comments concerning people being angry and looking to Second Amendment remedies - I don't think she fully appreciates the potential irony of becoming a target, herself. I'd wager the vast majority of Americans aren't annoyed merely with the opposition, but each and every member of Congress that continues to spoon-feed us tripe each election cycle.
Powers forbid we ever be offered an actual plan forward.
Exodite Dragon -
Well said. They need to concentrate on how they can move our country forward. They need to leave the controlling issues out of it. Don,t tell me who I can marry, don't tell me what I can and cannot do with my body and leave religion out of it all together.
Looking at the list below its pretty slim pickens. Not good, not good at all.
Derp~
List of the audience members since no one has definitely said they were running: JON HUNTSMAN, NEWT GINGRICH, DONALD TRUMP, RUDY GIULIANI, MITT ROMNEY, SARAH PALIN, TIM PAWLENTY, MIKE HUCKABEE and RICK SANTORUM. Actually this "Bin Ladin" affair has sent shock waves through these possibles and the "GameChanger" will make them think hard and long since none of them stands any chance of winning against President Obama!
For the debate to be of any value it must include Johnson and McCotter. We have had debates with the other participants but have not had an opportunity to see a single debate with either Johnson or McCotter. Many will not bother to watch yet another incomplete debate.
