From NBC's Andrea Mitchell
A senior official tells NBC News that the U.S. has now completed the DNA analysis, and it has come back with 100% certainty. It is Osama bin Laden.
Also, NBC News has been told that the CIA'S facial recognition technology has identified Bin Laden's face with 95% certainty -- after comparing it to known pictures of Bin him. That is considered very high accuracy.
And one of Bin Laden's wives was in the compound -- and survived -- identified him.
Asked how the sea burial complies with Islamic law, officials say the Koran is not specific to burial -- as long as the body of the diseased is cleansed quickly. There is no single authoriative Islamic text on burial.
Officials have no answer on how Pakistan intelligence wouldnt know about the compound, less than two miles from what is colloquially referred to as their "West Point."

DNA analysis?
Nope- I ain't gonna believe it was him until Trump waves the death-certificate at me.
lol Buzz!
It's fascinating just how quickly the conspiracy theorists organized today...
So far my favorite is, Osama was killed 10 days ago because his Navy Seal buddy told him so... lmao
Yep, Feisty- Then, you got all these guys like Bob that must have been IN Gitmo and SAW and HEARD the testimony of all these detainees. I mean, look at how much they KNOW about it today, and how it all went down!
Feisty,
I read that one also. It is like he is posting and not reading any of the articles he posted on or listened to the President last night. What an idiot!
Please Insult....
your post was perfectly reasonable right up to the last line.
What happened?
Well, Feisty- she finally made it. Must have taken all morning to so graciously figure out how to leave someone important off the 'thank-you' list, though.
Please,
I don’t warship the ground he walks on but I do have a lot of respect for our President.
1) Why insult the Islamic religion – Islam is not the foe.
2) Good question and I’m sure they got it somehow as they knew they would need it if he were killed in a missile attack. Don’t forget he has several close relatives here in the US.
3) I’m sure the photo will be made available at some time but perhaps not to the general public. The administration has stated they are concerned about releasing the pics since he was shot in the left eye.
Please Insult Me,
As opposed to everything bad being his fault and everything good being done by the GOP? Give me a break! Again too much time reading "Dummies guide to Republican spin!".
I have to assume the DBO is making reference to JAS1's comment below...
I think it says something about DBO that he so quickly focussed in on JAS1... stabbing at her as quickly as he could...
Personally, I think he has an obsession with her. With all the events going on today surrounding the success of our troops in eliminating bin laden... DBO is only focussed on JAS1...
Imagine that!
GO USA!
I wonder when Donald Trump will try to take the credit?
drive-by-observer
lol......they will still doubt the authenticity. please insult me can testify to that for he's a conspiracy theory in chief.
he's part of those jumping for joy when bush declared faux mission accomplished. when you think of thrash, think of please insult me.
he spews garbage.
Please Insult----it doesn't bother me that the US complied with the basic tenet's of Osama's religion----shows that they followed it more than he did. Why give the terrorists who are left something else to blame on the US.
I understood that we long ago had DNA, possibly from his family.
I don't need to see a photo----again---why give the terrorists something bad to say about the US plus I trust President Obama so I don't need to see the photo. And those who don't trust him won't be convinced by a photo---they'll just say it was altered anyway.
1. Why the quick burial at sea (i.e. why the concern over following Islamic law for a mass murderer)?
2. Where'd they get his DNA in the first place to do a comparison?
3. When do we get to see a (real) death photo?
1) Why leave a body around for an elaborate ceremony to further inflame his followers sensibilities? Why let a burial site become a place to gather to celebrate his martyrdom? Why not at least recognize the very least of the Islamic Traditions if you are a somewhat civilized person?
2) Since Bin Laden and his Mujahedeen were originally formulated and supported by Reagan’s CIA I imagine they had plenty of opportunities to file it for future use.
3) I wouldn’t want to be the one to tell a U.S. Navy Seal that I don’t believe the fellow that he positively identified as Osama bin Laden wasn’t unless he had a pretty picture to back it up. Just don’t even want to go there.
Outrage of Islamic worshipers of OBL Necessitated an at-sea burial. A smart move. Don't think I'd of thought of that one, but I betcha they still got his body somewhere.
Where'd they get the DNA? From any bin Laden family member. Probably at a board meeting attended by Dubya. He was their business partner.
When do you see a death photo? When we get to see Trump without his "toop".
His DNA was obtained from his Sister who died in the U.S.. The DoD had her brain subpeonaed.
...body of the diseased...?
FR, did you mean DECEASED?
Clara I think this is one of those times where diseased or deceased is interchangable. Both speak rather well to the character we're speaking of.
Yeah, in this case, I think either one works.
"I have to assume the DBO is making reference to JAS1's comment below..."
Alright who told??
"Personally, I think he has an obsession with her" and "..DBO is only focussed on JAS1..."
DUDE! You weren't around for the good old 'malt-shop' days on these pages, were you?? She's my slaubrious squeeze, bro!!

2. Where'd they get his DNA in the first place to do a comparison?
Answer: FROM OSAMA BIN LADEN’S SISTER.
3. When do we get to see a (real) death photo?
Answer: Who knows. The Geneva Convention does not allow for either side in a war to flaunt photographs of the dead.
Perfectly reasonable questions. Reasonable that is unless you worship the ground Obama walks on....
YOU MIGHT HAVE JUST LISTENED TO THE NEWS OR READ A PAPER, INSTEAD OF TRYING TO INSULT THE POTUS.
Moron.
What is really CREEPY is someone who has an obssesive disdain for the president that didn' give a crap about trusting or questioning 'authority' until a black man was his president.
First strands on bin Laden gathered in CIA prison
(AP) – 1 hour ago
WASHINGTON (AP) — Officials say CIA interrogators in secret overseas prisons developed the first strands of information that ultimately led to the killing of Osama bin Laden.
Current and former U.S. officials say that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, provided the nom de guerre of one of bin Laden's most trusted aides. The CIA got similar information from Mohammed's successor, Abu Faraj al-Libi. Both were subjected to harsh interrogation tactics inside CIA prisons in Poland and Romania.
The news is sure to reignite debate over whether the now-closed interrogation and detention program was successful. Former president George W. Bush authorized the CIA to use the harshest interrogation tactics in U.S. history. President Barack Obama closed the prison system.

Let Jesse venture put it to you a different way; booby.

If you got waterboarded, booby trap, you'd sing too.
The CIA doesn't do much interrogation; the FBI is brought in for that work. The FBI interrogators were replaced with private business interrogators, most without any field interrogation experience. As soon as the FBI was dis-invited, the level of intelligence gather declined.
That's the point, Bev. However distastful these tactics may be... they work.
(And don't think for one second that our boys don't endure this and much worse when they are captured.)
The bottom line is the United States got him under President Obama's watch.
jesse ventura???????
Well put Job1
seeing that you want to make it about obama and his watch -- we have had the worst economy for two consecutive years on his watch
The bottom line is that Osama's dead - it wouldn't matter one way or the other whether the administration that got him was painted red or blue.
My only thought on this issue is that there might've been greater relevance to his death had this taken place in 2003 or 2004. That Bush would've been President then is entirely beside the point.
I continue to fail to see the reasoning behind politicizing the fact that the man most wanted by the US government, the man considered our greatest public enemy, now lies dead (quite poetically) at the bottom of the ocean.
Someone had to clean the Bush mess up and President Obama is doing so.

Bobby, if ANYTHING the Bush Administration had done to capture OBL was successful, THEY would have caught him instead of President Obama.
The fact is, NONE of the Bush Administration’s tactics were successful, the Bush Administration FAILED in every way.
ALL of President Obama’s tactics were successful which is why Osama Bin Laden is dead today.
Oh wait, who am I talking to, the same guy, Bob, who claimed that when America was attacked on 9/11 under the Bush Administration, to Bob, that meant Bush kept us safe.
That explains why you vote Republican: Because you’ve got your pants on backwards and can't get anything straight.
So Bob, you really believe in torture. Do your kids feel at ease around you? BTW Bob I see your boy Boss Hogg dropped out of the race. Have a nice day, A Moonbat
Unless and un til this is confirmed by the President and the CIA, these are just rumors. Our media and news outlets love to just Make Up Stuff in this country. Should the President and the CIA provide these typ of details it doesn't say much about our Military. This type of information should remain Secret. Just because we are American don't mean we need to knwo everything because that put our Troops & Our Country in Harms Way, period. The troops and those serving this country are putting their very lives on the line and the Media is only about rtings, which won't help our country one bit, but for some reason they just don't get it.
It's just unbelievable that the Media and News Outlets simply don't understand why the President simply can't tell us all ther Military Business. At some point hopefull now today, responsible folk need to understand that the Military has to have privacy to protect their own lives, this country and their families.
Mr. President, don't engage these very nosey people who don't understand the meaning of protecting the toops and our country
Shhh...June, dont want to divulge information that would embarass leftists, who smugly claimed 'enhanced interrogation doesnt work'.
Well it did!!
The fact that the intelligence that led directly to the death of Bin Laden came from enhanced interrogations makes the libs look both foolish and hypocritical...
Any call to indict our CIA interrogators now?
Want Bush and Cheney on trial in an international court?
These were hardly the "harshest interrogation tactics in history" that is a ridiculous statement by AP.
The report says these high profile prisoners were harshly interrogated, but not that the information was extracted during that torture. It may be they gave up that information before the torture or even more recently. after all, Bush has been out of office two years now.
AmyB - "harshly treated" You mean their TV rights or their yard time were suspended?
Nice to see that you have finally admitted that bush has been out of office for 2 years.
Continued praise for all involved with the dispatching of bin Laden. That is what America can do when it puts its mind to it. Continuing of that War Against Terror has not been the popular thing to do for quite some time, but it is not always the popular thing that is the correct thing to do. Let’s keep that in mind as our country faces its domestic challenges in the coming months/years. Persistence pays off, and in this case, it has paid off in a great way! Again congratulations to the investigative teams, the ones that go through literally tons of data everyday, the ones that do the grunt work analysis, the ones that get dead ended 99.99% of the time but they just keep working, the ones that track the needle in the haystack – day in and day out. These people are just as important as the warriors that went in to get bin Laden.
It's a great day for America! It's a great day in America!
Also. Pakistan has a lot to answer for today.

All well and good, but someone's missing on this list..... Hmmmmm, who could it be? Maybe the one that dropped the green flag, and said 'go'??
And as usual, given enough rope, the usual suspects have managed to hang themselves on this grand day. I guess they just cannot help themselves. You don’t have to look far to find them, they’re here most days. A complete lack of self control by that very few. Of course is doesn’t help when the story line begins with the political aspect of the story rather than the historic aspect of it, almost like the extremists were being egging on.

Joanna yes they do, itsn't it funny that we did not tell them we knew where he was and that we were going after him, i have a funny feeling that the reason why bush could not get him is because of Pakistan. i may be wrong but Pakistan has been harboring him and i know they are mad right now that we kept our secert from them and by keeping that information to our selved we GOT HIM!!!!!
Joanna you good at telling me i'm wrong, but you must admitt I'm right about this.
President Obama once again showed respect for the former president Bush, when he told him bin ladin dead before he told the nation. Former president Bush i know wished he was there to pull the trigger on the fatal shot. Dick chenny even had kind words for president Obama.
It's not like Obama was in the hills/caves of the outlaw areas of Pakistan/Afghanistan, he was a short distance from the capital Islamabad! And he was not living in a cave, but in a compound that looks to be specially built for him.
Pakistan has a lot to answer for.
IR, Loved your second #3. Today is a good day. The Navy Seals did an incredible job
"It's not like Obama was in the hills/caves of the outlaw areas of Pakistan/Afghanistan...."
Um Joanna.... "Obama"?! Am I the only one to call you on your "mistype? Or did you do that on purpose?
Brilliant! A well-conceived, properly executed (pun intended) operation with many details thought through in advance. Like avoiding bombing for the sure thing of a Seals commando raid; like burying bin Laden at sea without abusing the body (which complies with Isamlic custom) and taking DNA samples.
Photos/video of the operation are incendiary but will probably have to be released to quell those who are already complaining that there's no proof binny-boy is dead. Limited release should satisfy most who still don't believe.
Limited release should satisfy most who still don't believe.
If only. The Birther crowd needed something else to whine about; I hereby coin the term "Deather" as the new moniker for these folks....
Photos/video are mandatory! The one thing cowards understand is seeing how the consequences of their actions ultimately affect them!
I'm impressed with the detail of burying him at sea. Reminds me of the scene in scarface where the mobster takes a prisoner up in a helicopter and throws the guy out over the ocean. Scary. Reminds me of using planes to attack the Twin towers. I hope they dropped the body from a plane.
(ok, that's my revenge fantasy fulfilled.)
Nice touch. No shrines to bin Laden. And I doubt they were any too gentle, tossing that piece of debris into the sea.

Where by now the sharks have had a nice lunch!!!!!
If they realy had wanted to jab the Taliban, they'd have had his body baptized before sending him over the rail......
amyB - no tearing of the weighted shroud to encourage predator access?
Bin Laden's death (brought about by enhanced interrogations) as well as the current transformation taking place in the mid east will certainly strengthen GW Bush's legacy. It was his declaration that "those that brought down these buildings will hear from all of us" set the inevitable path. I can't stand obama and what he represents but my hat is off to him for green lighting this mission. Congrats to our military, bush, and obama!

You are 2/3 rds right.
Obama says all Americans should be united today,Democrats and Republicans.
Eight Years Ago, Bush Declared 'Mission Accomplished' in Iraq
Ujala Sehgal Ujala Sehgal – Sun May 1, 5:18 pm ET
He flashed that famous all-American grin as he swaggered around the deck of the aircraft carrier in his olive flight suit, ejection harness between his legs, helmet tucked under his arm, awestruck crew crowding around. Maverick was back, cooler and hotter than ever, throttling to the max with joystick politics...This time Maverick didn't just nail a few bogeys and do a 4G inverted dive with a MiG-28 at a range of two meters. This time the Top Gun wasted a couple of nasty regimes, and promised this was just the beginning.
Eight years later, we still have the same war. But we are a very different country
http://news.yahoo.com/s/atlantic/20110501/ts_atlantic/missionaccomplishedspeech37226_1
"...Secondly, he is not escaping us. This is a guy, who, three months ago, was in control of a county [sic]. Now he's maybe in control of a cave. He's on the run. Listen, a while ago I said to the American people, our objective is more than bin Laden. But one of the things for certain is we're going to get him running and keep him running, and bring him to justice. And that's what's happening. He's on the run, if he's running at all. So we don't know whether he's in cave with the door shut, or a cave with the door open -- we just don't know...."
- Bush, in remarks in a Press Availablity with the Press Travel Pool,
The Prairie Chapel Ranch, Crawford TX, 12/28/01, as reported on
official White House site
"I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority."
- G.W. Bush, 3/13/02
"I am truly not that concerned about him."
- G.W. Bush, repsonding to a question about bin Laden's whereabouts,
3/13/02 (The New American, 4/8/02)
Does it seem like Obama was a little more concerned?

Ever wonder how different our present would look like if our President Bush and Vice President Cheney had focused on the mission that circumstances and the pursuit of Justice demanded rather than the one that they made it into. Misuse of the Will of the People and the Forces that personify it deserves no accolades only sorrow for the losses incurred because of the misuse.
Now, Now, IR- play fair.
Not supposed to mention Bush anymore, remember?
IR - you do realize that words have meaning don't you? thanks for including the dates.
interesting account about osamas "escape"...
http://www.ndtv.com/article/world/osama-bin-ladens-account-of-escape-from-tora-bora-101614?trendingnow
I would have said the same as bush in hopes that osama would emerge from hiding at an identifiable locale. It is called strategy.
Bin Laden's death (brought about by enhanced interrogations) as well as the current transformation taking place in the mid east will certainly strengthen GW Bush's legacy.
Yep -- it will add to the Bush's legacy of being one of, if not the worst president of all times. Bottom line -- President Obama DID what Bush only TALKED about.

Where'd you dig up that bloviated lie?
Republicans, always willing to lie, lie, lie in order to try to take credit for work they didn't do, and always running away from their own record.
Connie - I know obama wanted to shut down gitmo but at least he had the sense to listen to gates and other bush holdovers so I think you have to give him some credit.
I believe Bin Laden died years ago. I in now way shape or form believe he died a week ago. Those who believe that need to look up life expectancy and prognosis for peritoneal dialysis.
Cool. So you have a copy of the diagnosis?
Y' any good with birth certificates??
I believe Bin Laden died years ago
LOL!! So what?? Some people believe the earth flat.
Now you did it, the black helicopters are coming for you for sure now!
Got birth certificate? (chuckle)
nobama..........if Obama died a few years ago, where is the death certificate? When and where was he buried?
It would have been really good to have a pork chop in his mouth when they buried him at sea.
Ya mean like a last meal? lol!
Well this is finally the end of this evil monster, and the DNA confirms this to be true. Pakistan has alot to answer for, and it will be even more troubling to hear their politically weak excuses for their lack of a straight forward anti-terrorist policy. That is fact America. A big Thank You! To every individual involved in this very successful operation, and to the President with the strong leadership to give the green light. I hope that the world will understand that our President means business, and evil will not be tolerated. Way to go Mr. President!
You also seem so flip about this is no one worried about the backlash? Some of us have to travel for our job and I for one am petrified. I just wish they would not have announced it to the world.
Conspiracy Theorist indeed. We are hearing from Brush Himoff and other detractors that Bush should get the credit because President Obama would "bow down and seek forgiveness", their words. To all who do not want to give President Obama his credit due - It's OK, we, the military veterans served so you too can spew your unwarranted disgust! Here we are in a post-dead-man-walking era and the naysayers spew their versions to the gullible masses in hopes of thwarting this "game-changer". Here's the real bottom line: President Obama got Osama! President Obama is president! President Obama approved the operation! All that is being disclosed today happened before yesterday! Our "Special Ops" guys did the work at the direction of President Obama! I served so that "WE" could all voice our opinions without fear of reprisals and there are those who will change the actual operation and credit given to justify their versions. There was only one side to this operation and it was "OUR OPERATION" with "OUR SPECIAL OPS GUYS" and "WE GOT IT DONE"!
See below
Thank you to both President Bush and President Obama for their roles in getting this job done. But more importantly, thank you to the CIA and the Navy Seals for doing the actual work needed to carry out the mission. For all of you out there that love to bash and hate the CIA, you now owe a debt of deep gratitude to them. Without their years of dedication, persistence , hard work and courage, spanning two administrations, this mission would not have been possible. Likewise, without the years of training, hard work and sacrifice and courage of the SEALS, no amount of political will could or would have carried out the actual work. In the end the politicians were reduced to mere onlookers, while the ones that truly deserve the credit executed the operation. So try to score whatever political points you want, but I and many others know where the real credit and praise should be directed. Once again, thank you very much to the CIA, the SEALS and all the other members of our services that made this mission possible and a success.
And thank you in advance for the continued work you will do in utilizing the information obtained from this mission to score more victories in the war against the terrorist. Keep up the good work. Presidents and other politicians will come and go, but we know that you will always be there working in the background for US while they try to, often thanklessly, take credit for what you do and the sacrifices you make.
there was never any doubt !!! this DNA was only for the conspiracy theorists !!!
