As we wrote earlier tonight, the news of Osama Bin Laden's death -- and its implications for President Barack Obama's legacy and his re-election race -- is almost certain to change the contours of the 2012 race.
Here's some responses from potential 2012 GOP contenders to the news that the al-Qaeda leader has been killed in a U.S.-led operation in Pakistan.
Facebook post from former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney: "This is a great victory for lovers of freedom and justice everywhere. Congratulations to our intelligence community, our military and the president. My thoughts are with the families of Osama bin Laden's many thousands of victims, and the brave servicemen and women who have laid down their lives in pursuit of this murderous terrorist."
Written statement from former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty: "This is terrific news for freedom and justice. In the hours after the 9/11 attacks, President Bush promised that America would bring Osama bin Laden to justice — and we did. I want to congratulate America's armed forces and President Obama for a job well done. Let history show that the perseverance of the US military and the American people never wavered. America will never shrink from the fight and ultimately those who seek to harm us face only defeat. Today, justice is done, but the fight against radical Islamic terrorism is not yet over."
Tweet from former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin: "Thank you, American men and women in uniform. You are America's finest and we are all so proud. Thank you for fighting against terrorism.
Written statement from former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee: "It is unusual to celebrate a death, but today Americans and decent people the world over cheer the news that madman, murderer and terrorist Osama Bin Laden is dead. The leader of Al Qaeda--- responsible for the deaths of 3000 innocent citizens on September 11, 2001, and whose maniacal hate is responsible for the deaths of thousands of US servicemen and women was killed by U.S. military. President Obama confirmed the announcement late last night. DNA tests confirmed his death and his body is in the possession of the U. S. It has taken a long time for this monster to be brought to justice. Welcome to hell, bin Laden. Let us all hope that his demise will serve notice to Islamic radicals the world over that the United States will be relentless is tracking down and terminating those who would inflict terror, mayhem and death on any of our citizens."
Written statement from Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann: "I want to express my deepest gratitude to the men and women of the U.S. military and intelligence community. Their persistence and dedicated service has yielded success in a mission that has gripped our nation since the terrible events of 9/11. Tonight’s news does not bring back the lives of the thousands of innocent people who were killed that day by Osama bin Laden’s horrific plan, and it does not end the threat posed by terrorists, but it is my hope that this is the beginning of the end of Sharia-compliant terrorism.”
Written statement from former Sen. Rick Santorum: "This is extraordinary news for all freedom loving people of the world, and I commend all those involved for this historic triumph. Americans have waited nearly ten years for the news of Osama bin Laden's death. And while this is a very significant objective that cannot be minimized, the threat from Jihadism does not die with bin Laden. As we were vigilant in taking him out we need to demonstrate we will continue to be vigilant until the enemy has been subdued."

Obama doesn't deserve any credit in catching Bin Laden. The credit should go to the American military, if you were to give any credit to an American president I think it should go more toward Bush because he's the one who served both of his terms trying to find Bin Laden and with his Doctrine (which came because of the 9/11 attacks) is why we endeavored so long and hard to find Al queda conspirators.
Though this is unrelated to my previous subject, in the 2012 election the republicans are sure to lose because they have no one at the same level of popularity as Obama. Obama is well known and people are more likely to vote for him because the general population know's him more. The only candidate for the republican side that has some popularity is Trump, and he's moer infamous than anything. And unless we want the name trump branded on everything american the republicans should try to make some other candidate as popular. I recommend Boehnor because he seems more likely to be the better president.
Give Bush credit for what? Taking his eye of the ball? Bush was totally and complete CONSUMED with avenging his daddy's war with Saddam Hussein and Iraq! Bush barely sent any troops into Afghanistan to hunt OBL and flush him out. And I really hate to burst your GOP bubble (NOT!), but President Bush gave his infamous "I don't know where he is...I'm truly not that concerned about him." speech just SIX MONTHS AFTER 9/11 in MARCH 2002!!! So, kill that noise about Bush searching for OBL for both terms!! He must have a bad case of Attention Deficit Disorder because he couldn't focus any longer than a reality TV series on "bringing Osama Bin Laden to justice" as he PROMISED US!!
FYI: Our Amercian President, Barack Obama, is the COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF of our exceptional military. So, any time you give our military kudos for a job well done, you're saluting the entire chain, dummy! Obama was managing the entire operation from conception to completion! It was Obama's decision to send in the Navy SEALs. He could have sent bombers, but wanted evidence to show the world, so he opted out. He could have asked the Pakistani forces to assist or complete the mission, but didn't trust them. He could have even sent in spies to infiltrate Bin Laden's camp, but didn't want to wait or risk detection. So, BANG, BANG!! Two shots to the eye by the SEAL Commander and OBL is DEAD, ALL WHILE PRESIDENT OBAMA MAINTAINED OPERATIONAL CONTROL FROM THE SITUATION ROOM!! So, stop trying to rob him of his achievement! It makes you look petty, stupid and bitter!!!
There Characteristics of Dittoheads. (Most Republicnas)
They are part of the Rebel Alliance and a traitor. Take them away!
I want to see ether Mayer Giuliani, Senator or Tester, or Senator John McCain on Republican ticket and I would like to see Obama replace Joe Biden with Ralph Nader for the democratic ticket and I would like McCain to stop doing personal attack adds this time.
I'm impressed with Governor Johnson. Ralph Nader and Governor Johnson on the republican ticket. Smart and honest Government.
I base my decision on the weight scale. so far Obama gets a plus 15 for the death of Americas greatest enemy on his watch but he a minus ten on how the health program minus I'd say eight point five points for his taxes, and he diffidently gets a minus twenty points for the way he handled the marijuana issue. I'll vote for some one more like minded this next election. That's if I make it to the voting booth before they close this year.
This works for me. Put 'The Donald' in a weighted body bag and send him down to see the body of OBL.
