If you follow American politics, you know it can change in a blink of an eye.
In the last few weeks, as gasoline prices have continued to climb in the United States, President Obama has seen his poll numbers decline, suggesting a potential vulnerability in 2012.
But the news that Osama bin Laden has been killed -- on Obama's watch -- is most definitely a political game-changer and appears destined to impact the contours of the 2012 presidential race, as well as the emerging Republican field. Of course, the size of the impact is yet unknown and will be played out in the months ahead, especially with U.S. unemployment near 9%. The 2012 general election, after all, is more than 550 days away.
As NBC's Chuck Todd also mentioned, it could have an impact on the U.S. involvement in Afghanistan-Pakistan. Does it make the U.S. re-evaluate the mission there? Does it affect the troop draw-down that's scheduled to begin this summer?

Knock knock: Oh no jo, where are you? Don't you owe a big fat apology to our President? I will be waiting to see if you, at long last, do the right thing.
Nope.
Well, that makes you an ingrate.
Nope that makes him a in BRED
Really...you might want to go read the updated story on your very own MSNBC. The trail to this started before 9/11, came from information gather in Guitmo before he took office, probably from the interigation techniques used before he took office, and has been on going. This information crosses three presidents. I am an independent voter who believes in my own research, but I find it interesting that the Democrats hear what they want and are afraid of that which doea not fit their needs...(though the same goes for Republicans).
CommonSense...
Yes, it encompassed 2 Democratic Presidents, and 1 Republican who ignored warning about Osama because it came from a Democratic President.
Osama was in Pakistani Afganistan border not Iraq .... what a waste of lives and money because Bush got it all wrong. How incompetent is he....
Not true, they did not have the enough information at the time. Only one time did we have a precise location on him, under a democrat, and his delay allowed him to get away. The information trail not begin to connect until information from Guitmo. So the trail goes back, but not until 2007 did they begin to get the information from detainees. So it only became actiontionable since this Presidents election, and yet it still took 4 years for the CIA to connect to information. But again, you are proving my point about the political affiliation problem, of fact they want and what they will ignore.
Jackie:
Interesting comment, considering that was not the conversation. But thank you for proving my point also about politics. I am pure independent, and will never choose a single party, only support those that speak the truth and will follow policies that are alligned with my beliefs. Though I could not agree more, and especially since I am a Soldier who was wounded in Iraq and will live forever with disabilities not to mention my brother-in-law was killed in Iraq.
No one ever claimed Osama was in Iraq - just how wrong can you be?
Why does everything have to be politicized.
I am glad our armed forces accomplished this, regardless of who is President.
I congratulate Obama on not acting on his open disdain of our military once he became President. It is likely he learned what Bush and every president before him did and finally understood what a mistake it was to call out military decisions without all the information.
Obama was a schmuck before the killing of OBL, and he's still a schmuck.
He just happened to be there when OBL was killed. But he's still a schmuck.
Commonsense, you might want to read the article yourself. The lead began last August. 2010. Obama was President at the time.
Obama is a true leader, so much for the "lack of leadership" arguments of the right.
Bush 7 years no Osama
Obama 2 years no more Osama
Obama tripled the troops bush languished there for 7 years and quadrupled drone attacks, and moved Petraus over from Iraq among other changes. Combined it worked in 2 what didn't work in 7. God bless our troops. God bless our new commander in chief. God bless the USA!!!
It changes nothing. Its just the same as with Carter: No matter how many houses he 'builds', his presidency will still have been a disaster.
The professionals in the CIA got Bin Laden, not Obama. Obama's 'vision' for America still sucks.
Wow, lot of ignorant folks on here tonight. This changes absolutely everything. This is the greatest victory America as a country has had since the defeat of Hitler back in the '40s. Obama said he would get him and he did. He has been working on this for two years. He is the one that put this into motion when he first took office.
I saw him on The Daily back in either '06 or '07 and I thought he was a war correspondent. Cause he was the first person who I saw that knew way more about the war than most of the people from the Bush administration, that were talking about it nightly.
Red barrys still killing babies in libya, the economy still sucks and gas wont get any cheeper under this marxist you pukes love, so i hope he fails, hes a greater threat to america than bin laden ever was. good job to seal team 6 and the cia. red barry loves taking all the credit, he wont shut up about this until we vote his red ass out of office.
Now this is news that the entire world can get behind, instead of a royal wedding costing Britain taxpayers $$$.
Agree that Osama's death may be a game changer for our military forces, but not for Obama's politics. He still has to get off his butt and fix America's economic situation, something else he promised to do two years ago and yet, what progress have we seen? None. If he can pull that off by the end of this year, I might consider his presidency a little more successful. If Sept 11, like Obama said in his speech about Bin Laden's death, rallied the American people to come together, help their friends, neighbors, give blood, etc, etc, this should be able to rally the country to focus more intently on fixing the problems our own nation has on the home front. People have been outraged that we haven't et caught and killed him, well, now we have. be just as angry about your taxes going to support illegals and going to funding you know nothing about and get involved. I hope Obama's administration understands that there's now more relevant fights to be won here at home and rolls of their sleeves. They still have a lot more to do to be able to call Obama's presidency anything less than terrible.
Good job Obama, America thanks you. The Dem's have balls and the GOP has teanuts.
Hats off to all in both the Obama and Bush administrations who persisted in this accomplishment. 40 minutes is an unbeliveably short period of time to arrive in a location, get your bearings, engage in a firefight, retrieve related materials, and even extract the body! Job well done by all involved. Now Bin Laden can join Hiltler, Mussolini, Stalin and others shoveling coal in hell.
Osama's gone, but it doesn't change the fact that Obama is still one of the worst President's in history! Just watch, he'll now reward himself with another expensive family vacation on our dime!
Give credit where credit is due.... it was the military and information gleened from the left's hated enemy the CIA, that got the job done! If it were up to Obama, the hunt for Osama would have ended (like Gitmo) a long time ago! What a hiprocrite he and the left are! Obama is a political genius, however, turning this great news for the country, into nothing more than political $$$. He's still a poor leader! Vote in 2012 to make a real change!
Paul F,
Your quote "I congratulate Obama on not acting on his open disdain of our military once he became President" is despicable.
Obama has disdain for our Military? Where did you get this kind of information? Obama allocated more money for taking care of veterans who are back from the Iraq and Afghanistan. It was Bushie, Rummie, and fat Cheney who refused to provide proper gear for our military to do its work in Iraq and Afghanistan and your memory is too short to make a proper conclusion. VA is now better organized and better funded under Obama than it was under the previous administration.
So, don't make me laugh. Plus Michelle Obama and Jill Biden spend enormous amount of their time and money in organizing events and funds to take care of military families whose spouses are serving abroad.
Anyone who gives a president credit for this is retarded.
Anyone who doesn't is an idiot un-American troll
If the news reports are accurate, then it is quite clear that President Obama took a much more vigorous approach to locating and eliminating Osama bin Laden than did former Pesident G.W. Bush. In particular, President obama kept the heat on, and ran five planning meetings before giving the order to assault the compound.
What is really most amazing about this event is where bin Laden was holded up - virtually in the midst of Pakistan's miliary war college and one of the larger military bases in the country. And, of course, the location is well inside urbanized Pakistan.
This tale will continue to unfold over the coming months. Expect some books, and quite probably a feature-length documentary about it.
Naturally the Party of No will find reasons to carp, complain and criticize our President for doing his job - and doing it well.
The Credit goes to the men and women who gathered the Intel on where he is... The Credit goes to the Team who went in there and did what needed to be done.. The Credit goes to any and EVERYONE of our military men and women.
Obama gave the go order.. Thats all he gets credit for. Id say the same thing if Bush was still in office.
Anyone who wants to play politics can go take a giant leap off cliff as far as Im concerned. The people you should thank is the same people that most of the people here on this specific board despise. The Military.
I guess someone eventually had to get him. If this is going to be a political game-changer I would comment that it may be but only in Democrat partisan dreams. Gasoline is still heading higher. Job growth is too slow to keep up with the new workers entering the workforce let alone impacting the current outrageously high unemployment rate. The Government take-over of the heath care system has not done anything but increase businesses' premiums. Oh and gasoline prices continue to rise. Yea! Bin Laden is dead. Gas prices are still way too high.
ROTFLMAO - What politicizing by the left on how great obama is. How soon you all forget on what it took for America to reach this point. Perhaps JohnB of desmoines said it best in responce to my post...
John B, Des Moines, IA
http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/05/01/6566910-bin-laden-killed-obama-to-announce
Their will always be a price to pay to maintain freedom.
The credit goes to ALL who worked in this, and to the President for it was in HIS watch, he is the CIC and he gave the "go-ahead" order.
He could be more "cautious" and distract the action to some other place and lose the opportunity. He seized the opportunity and send the troops to do the job for what they've trained for years and years.
So, for all those Goppers/Tpeers that still cry for that, it will go into the history books that was under Barack Hussein Obama Presidency that Osama was killed, not Junior.....
GOD Bless our troops and bring them home safely!!!!!!
The military has been working on this for years. It does not matter who is in office when Osama is caught. People giving a president credit for this are exactly the kind of people politicians love. Stupid and impressionable.
96: Didn't Eric Holder want to investigate and prosecute those whome obtained this information? see Foxnews 8/24/09
No. it changes nothing.
Steve,
Why not, unless you're a racist?
WHY!!!! Can't anyone say anything without being pegged as a racist?????????
This is about policy not race.
When facts contradict what Republicans have been saying, they just revise history accordingly and claim THAT was what they thought all along. Tell me if this sounds familiar: "Oh, we never said we wanted to see the birth certificate."
The Republicans were in charge completely from 2001-2007 and didn't get him. They could have had him in Dec. of 2003 at Tora Bora, but they whiffed on that opportunity to go into Iraq. Republicans keep wailing about how Democrats are weak on national security.
The Republicans can talk the talk, but they can't walk the walk.
One man is Dead. Thats it. there are Thousand and Thousands of other Muslim Terrorist out there ready to Kill Americans . come Election time we will still be in Afganistan. we will still be in Iraq. and Possible have ground troops in Libya..
So ONE man is dead. What else has changed except a few days of happiness because Osama bin ladin is dead..
steve-
two words: sour grapes
Scfream Racism all you want. but i guess you guys are all RACIST. because i am not White. and most of the Names i have been Called and Racist remarks towards me has been by Black People So call me Racist if you will but the people that Scream Racist are looking for an EXCUSE 99 percent of the time..
You liberals cannot seem to be happy about anything. Even now you have to assume you know everything that Republicans think, you criticize, call names, accuse people of racism, during a time of success?
What a miserable bunch.
Did you also feel this way when Saddam Hussein was caught and killed? Only one man.
Ah, poor Steve, Obama is a true leader, and will get a second term how.
Cry in your cereal......
This will make a difference Osama Bin Laden as a figure head is quite a symbolic death. In the short term, the threat level is going to jump as the martyred revenge motive kicks into his devotees.
In the long term, it allows us to back down from a far too aggressive posture and it is my hope it facilitates a move to withdraw from Afghanistan.
It is also going to Piss the Pakistani people off as we did not consult with their government prior to the strike itself (even though the Pakistani Gov. was part of the intelligence gathering).
Sean..
I dont have to deny anything. the Fact that you use the Color of your Skin as an excuse and a Reason to call everyone Racist because someone disagrees with the president is your Problem infact you are the Racist for even trying to use it .
You Black people that think you can Intimidate me by Screaming Racism have run up against the run Wall. I am not Scared of you I will not be intimadated by your Racism. I will stand up against you at every Turn. your Racism towards me because I said it Changes nothing is obvious.. I know you dont get it. But i dont care.
Steve-5-o
"DRIVING WHILE BLACK" DWB, it is a moving violation in some jurisdiction just like DWI. Well, President Obama is driving the US bus and we're all on board and he's doing a commendable job. But you still find fault. Why? He's DWB, that's why.
Sadly Steve, you condemn yourself with your own words.
"You Black people...." Podna, it's hard to tell which is worse, your ignorance or your racism. You just prove our point and that is Obama is never going to satisfy you for one reason and one reason only, he is "DWB", Driving While Black.
He is the Commander and Chief. He LED the US Armed Forces, increased the number boots on the ground in Pakistan, the number of drone attacks and the aggressive and intelligent search for the World's number one terrorist. All things GWII could have done day one in 2002 but he was too focused on Iraq and getting Saddam for his own personal reasons. 47,000 killed and wounded Americans and the target of the war on terror was living in a mansion in Pakistan. Personally I think GWII should be prosecuted for gross negligence.
Obama did what Bush could not and in less than half the time.
He deserves congratulations. He deserves your appreciation.
Instead he gets more vitriol and racist comments like yours above.
DWB, Driving While Black, I guess we've still got a long ways to go Podna. We'll get there but the first step is for ignorant racist like you to admit you have a problem and begin to work on it.
GOOD JOB MR. PRESIDENT
Can't everyone just knock off the racism comments for one day?
Osama is finally gone - be happy today and start back on your party-line ranting tomorrow...
As a conserative, I congratulate President Obama on completing the mission started by President Bush on killing OBL! I also congratulate the President on continuing the policies started by President Bush and not turning away from many of those policies. I find it sad however that liberals take this opportunity to critize a President who started this mission, made it clear that his priority was the defense of the US. I also find it sad that many Repub-conseratives can't just 'rejoice' in the fact that this killer and terrorist is dead! This is America's victory thanks to our wonderful military men and women, the intel community, and two Presidents who did not give up on the mission!
So much for Republicans being the national defense experts. They are spending freaks and incapable of keeping us safe. Our President both watches our pocket book and spends it for our benefit, not corporate America's. He keeps us safe and kills our enemies. What else can you ask of a President. He has my vote. You bet this is a game changer. Which one of the Republican freaks could possibly be successful with an eight month long operation. They are all "Carnival Barkers". Obama 2012.
LOL
If the Democrats and Clinton would have done their job capturing bin Laden after the Cole and embassy bombings in the 90s when they knew exactly where he was on numerous occasions, then "Bush's wars" wouldnt have happened.
Liberals are the first to want to cut the military to the bone. Now that the military does something that may benefit Obama politically, its suddenly your BFF.
Sounds like Obama had your vote before tonight anyways...so I'm not sure you're the best person to ask...since you already consider them "Republican Freaks."
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to authorize a rocket launch. The real credit for this operation goes to the men and women who actually coordinated an operation that inserted troops hundreds of miles into unfriendly territory, attacked a building with no loss of life, and then managed the extraction to Afghanistan.
And considering these are the same agencies who didn't put the pieces together about 9/11, and told us Iraq had WMD; I would say they are just now breaking even.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
Health Care reform? CHECK
Saving the country's financial system and car industry? CHECK
KILLING BIN LADEN? CHECK
He's done more in 3 years for this country (not the rich) than the former Resident ever did. Country was drove into a ditch, the tow truck is here and we're moving forward again.
AZChzhd, Clinton DID try to go after Bin Laden, but when he did, the Republicans mocked him and said he was just trying to distract the country from Monica Lewinski.
Brian, get off your knees already. He has a wife.
Last time I looked, Ford didn't need any saving, and the greedy banks can go back to their private islands for all I care. In fact, they should go during hurricane season.
Let's not over do it and paint a picture of him parting the muslim hordes as he personally throws an American flag through Bin Laden and pressing the Staples Easy Button at the same time.
And since when do the rich not belong to this country? But by your obvious lack of respect to the office and those who disagree with you, you paint yourself with the same intensity and intolerance as a republican, just a different shade.
If you are ok with the Rich being taxed twice as much, are you ok with them getting twice as many votes as you? After all, the more I invest in a company the more say I get, right?
But no, save the greedy financial sector, and tax the businesses that actually provide useful products and services in order to pay for it...
Anabanana, I want some of whatever you have been smoking.
He watches our pocketbook? Really? ....No, really?!? Haven't you heard of the DEFICIT???? Please don't tell him what comes AFTER a trillion, OK? Please?
And "Which one of the Republican freaks could possibly be successful with an eight month long operation." ONLY Obama could have pulled it off, right? Take another toke...
Obama just got lucky that it happened during his term of office. Oh, he will get the credit for it...just as corporate management gets credit for the hard work that their workforce does...it's a perk of the office. Good for him and his re-election strategy. I'm sure he will play it to the hilt. Unfortunately, it may actually work in his favor and he may be re-elected.
When you come down off your mind-buzz, I hope you remember the REAL heroes are the US Armed Forces, plain and simple.
Butterbean,
You are spending too much time reading "Dummies guide to Republican spin!"
I am very thankful that Obama stayed in Afghanistan, and approved this action with what it sounds like no help from the Packistan govt.
Enough with the bickering - he got the job done. Certainly it took many years, and I don't think anyone believes Bush or anyone else didn't want to capture or kill bin Laden on our side.
Let's also remember as others have said, this was a military and an intelligence action. Likely many of the same people who convinced us we needed to go into Iraq regardless of the revised history many like to post.
Bravo to our Armed Forces, and to President Obama, and the Congressional leaders involved in this very brave and successful act.
AnaBanana, nope, not a republican, I'm a realist. And I stand by my statement and opinion that Pres.Obama just got lucky. The same posts would be up, just slanted in the opposite direction, had this happened during the Bush presidency. Luck of the draw, not great strategic planning by Obama.
And you borrowed that line from another poster...
Travis-316...
You are using hyperbole. The rich would never be taxed twice as much under the most extreme liberal plan.
Look at this chart of Bush rates vs. Clinton rates (please cut and paste it, it's informative):
3.bp.blogspot.com/_otfwl2zc6Qc/R9AFZQv3L_I/AAAAAAAAD10/fQb5YewLYfE/s1600-h/tax.bmp
At the top bracket on the chart, 125k, it would only be a 10-15% increase max of the total amount charged. 3 or 4 thousand extra.
The difference in the actual percentage taxed between Bush years and Clinton years is only about 3 or 4% more. But the millionaires and billionaires want to begrudge supporting the country that makes them possible that little percentage more?
Listen, under Clinton tax rates 23+ million jobs were created. It can work again. Trickle down has never worked. With 3 tries in our recent history to it's credit.
So no, the Democrats will never double the tax rates as you stated. You're just fear mongering. It would only ever be the fractional increase to Clinton levels at the most. And you can bet the fact that this administration is more in the center than left would mean it would be even less if it did happen.
Here's the original source for that chart, from the Tax Foundation. Sorry the numbers prove you wrong.
w ww.taxfoundation.org/publications/show/151.html
I'm sorry Dangerous Mind I wasn't trying to "fear monger" and I wasn't using actual statistic but illustrating a point with basic math. The equation remains, as I am taxed more should I not be represented more? I am pulling more than my share, but I still only get to vote as if I am pulling an equal share. Bigger states get more representatives in the house, right?
Considering I wasn't touting any sort of tax plan, and merely stating my opinion I can not be "proven wrong". I will continue to hold the belief that a equal share of taxes should be paid by all. Does that mean the rich should pay $25 and I should pay $25 bucks? No.
Painting me as a reagonomics supporter just because I don't support disproportionate tax rates isn't proper. There are more than two proposed solutions to this problem.
You can also not credit "Clinton tax rates" with 23 million jobs created. There are many factors that go in to job creation. Taxes are one of them, but the 90's was also a time of rapid internet expansion ala the .com bubble. A lot of those jobs 'created' were not permanent or even long lived. Clinton also gave us NAFTA, which is one of the worst pieces of paper ever signed.
A fairer way to do things would be to tax things at the point of sale, not a VAT that taxes the whole line, but just the point of sale. No income taxes taken out of your check. No way to avoid paying taxes. No illegal immigrants avoiding taxes because they have no record of being here. I have a more in depth description, but really it is too long to post here, and is similar to the fairtax.org movement. It would involve vouchers for the below poverty level so instead of waiting for a refund they never lost the money to begin with, and eliminating a gigantic portion of the IRS (thereby saving even more money.) Larger revenue pool, less avoidance, and less overhead to manage. So, before you stereotype me, know who I am or what I represent.
Way to go girl! The truth is the truth!
"I don’t know where he is. Nor — you know, I just don’t spend that much time
on him really, to be honest with you. I....I truly am not that concerned about
him."
George W. Bush discussing Osama bin Laden in 2002
If you want to know what Clinton did try to do just read "Against All Enemies" by Richard A. Clarke, the NSA for Clinton and the one Condi Rice (Bush's NSA) called to lead the meetings in the White House immediately after the 9/11 attacks, because he KNEW the details. The NSA information had been handed over to the Bush administration after Bush's inauguration, but they discounted it. You will be horrified to read what even senior military leaders reportedly did when the orders were given by President Clinton to get Bin Ladin.
Here are just a couple of excerpts from Against All Enemies, page 145, involving discussion between Michael Sheehan (working on National Security Staff in the White House) and 2 fellow Green Berets. This discussion took place at Fort Bragg, N.C. They were telling stories about "the ones that got away". They told Sheehan about a plan to snatch an al Queda leader but that they didn't get to do it. Sheehan asked them "What happened" and they replies "F....n' White House, Clinton said No." Sheehan knew that was not true and asked them "How do you know that?" They replied "PENTAGON TOLD US ALL ABOUT IT!" (emphasis added).
So Clinton was being blocked by high ranking military officials who obviously refused to carry out his orders, in an effort to try to undermine Clinton rather than try to protect the United States of America! Get the book and read it and see the sabotages that happened due to military leaders not keeping missions secret because they were too involved politically and were only interested in damaging the President's reputation.
Now we have had 10+ years of death, wars and the U.S. almost being bankrupted to try to keep up with "terror." Too bad they didn't let the plans go forward to take out bin Laden before 9/11, and too bad that the Bush administration didn't take the warnings about al Queda serious until after the attack on 9/11.
AnaBanana is speaking the truth! Way to go girl!
Butterbean - US Federal Deficit 2011: 1.27 trillion projected. US Federal spending on Afghanistan & Iraq 1.19 trillion. Yah, I'd say Obama is looking out for our economy. Get this war business done and the picture gets so much brighter!
Brian in san diego-the car industry is saved? Why are we packing up factories and sending them to Mexico and giving them jobs instead of making changes in Union policy so that our unemployed here can get their jobs back and pay the bills, put food on their tables? I'm not sure that qualifies as solving that problem.
A lot of credit goes to the military for this operation, as they were the ones who developed the intelligence and then acted swiftly and decisively once given the order.
With that being said, Obama also deserves a lot of the credit as well, for putting much more of a focus on Afghanistan. If Bush Jr. had put as much attention, money and troops in Afghanistan as he did in Iraq, we could have very well had the same outcome years ago.
Butterbean-2750215
Anabanana, I want some of whatever you have been smoking.
He watches our pocketbook? Really? ....No, really?!? Haven't you heard of the DEFICIT???? Please don't tell him what comes AFTER a trillion, OK? Please?
Butterbean-2750215
I hate to tell you this, but the deficit was caused by republicans. The deficits accrued during the Reagan, Bush Sr and Bush Jr amount to $10 Trillion. The remaining $4 Trillion were used to prop up the economy that Bush and the very incompetent republicans destroyed.
Do some research, get your facts straight.
As a response to newdayDawning10 - Yes, I think more then jo owes an apology to the President. But some how I just don't think that's going to happen, I wonder why that is.
Some of ya'll need to look real deep within yourselves and question why you hate the President so much. I take that back, just use plain language to put a word/color/ethnicity to it; because though we all know it no one want to say it.
It is a huge game changer, no more nonsense about the conservatives being stronger on defense.
It changes Nothing. Our troops will still be in Afganistan. In Iraq. and perhaps even in Libya................ Nothing has changed except one man is dead.
Same thing happened when we got Saddam........... One man is dead.. still Muslim Terrorist trying to kill people all over the world and it will probably Get more Violent in the coming Months......and if it does get more Violent around they world. You can go back to Blaming it on Bush..
Steve 505729,
Is that you Glenn Beck?
AnaBanana..
Is that you Rachel Maddow?
AnaBanana. Steve gave you a great compliment!!
Patrick Salt Lake City,
I agree. Thank you very much Steve! I am not half the woman Rachel is but I try to keep as open a mind as she does.
Is anyone watching the party outside the white house. They are all chanting "Yes we can!"
Will I Am has his next hit song!
Ana. I sure am, wish I was there.
For the record, ana and patrick, I saw a Don't Tread on Me Flag being waved. So perhaps this victory can bridge SOME differences?
Mission Truly Accomplished!
I hope so Clara. While we are all happy about this, I know divisions will always be there. After 9/11, I was so proud of how we all came together as one, even if it was for a short time.
Clara. I saw that also, I hope you are right.
Clara (from my hometown), Patrick and Ana, Rachel is reporting live that she is seeing people with Bush/Cheney shirts right next to people wearing "Jesus was a Democrat" shirts chanting together and not fighting. This is soooo cool.
willynel...we can enjoy the unity while it lasts. Tomorrow or next wek, we'll be back to our political business as usual. One thing about Americans is we seem to have amnesia. Maybe thats why we are usually so forgiving lol
Steve,
You know if W had gotten him you'd be the first on here screaming that he was the Second Coming or some such. Why don't we all just be adults and say "Congratulations, Mr. President"? Justice was done.
Mn Writer. You are Absolutely Wrong I i thanked the US Military. The president sends young men in to war to Die and be Maimed whether its a Democrat or a Republican. I never Thanked Bush for getting Saddam. I thanked the Miliary.
Tell me did teh President Pull the Trigger that killed Osama. ?
No Sir, he ordered the attack on Binn Laden - and the operation took eight months - that takes some guts, too
It takes guts to order an 8 month long operation that would never be heard about if it failed? Or it takes guts to order an operation about such an easily identifiable enemy who everyone wants dead? Or does it take guts to ...open up an intelligence briefing?
I wasn't there, maybe he wanted to do the "civilized" thing and take him alive, put him on trial and such.
All these liberals want Obama to take credit for the killing of a murderer without trial and claim that "justice was served", but they have a problem with killing the murderers in jail...
The hypocrisies of politics these days are astounding. In truth, Justice wasn't served, vengeance was. Which I am A OK with, but let's call a duck a duck.
Define hypocrisy: insincerity by virtue of pretending to have qualities or beliefs that you do not really have (Intelligence is mentioned nowhere)
Killing an "enemy combatant" without apprehension or trial, in a foreign land with bullets = ok and Obama is great for doing
Killing a tried and convicted felon in accordance with state law in a "humane" way = Capital Punishment a horrible thing that few democrats support.
Other examples of hypocrisy in politics. "You should respect the president whether or not you agree with him, he is the president. Oh except for that bumbling war criminal "resident" Bush, who got the same "Hey hey goodbye" cheer that Osama did."
Or, "You should respect the president whether or not you agree with him, oh except for Obama since he is not an American, even though he had an American mother and was voted for by a distinct majority"
Or, "Man those republitards only listen to whatever Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin feed them, right Rachel Maddow and MSNBC?"
Or, "I respect a woman's right to not have a baby, because it is your individual right. But you can't have guns, because it is your individual right."
Or, "A fetus is a life and protected by God, but I want you to respect my right to have a weapon that can potentially destroy other people, who may or may not be protected by God."
Maybe with this insight, hypocrisy (you see, the first clue that you know what you are talking about is to spell it correctly...) will be something you have a better understanding of, though as a member of a political party, it is most likely something you are intimately familiar with.
Congratulations to which Mr. President? President Bush put 7 years into finding Osama. Obama simply got lucky in 2 years thanks to Bush's hard work, perserverance & leadership. In any case, it wasn't the Democrats that pulled it off, it was our incredible military men & women. Many thanks to THEM.
I'm not all over the place, I disagree with both sides on different issues. The hypocrisy is that people want to interfere in other peoples lives but don't want people interfering in theirs.
It is a hypocrisy to call for respect for a president while disrespecting another. It is hypocrisy to ask for tolerance and compromise while being willing to give none.
But as I have given you many examples, I don't think you can understand the point. It is sad, but it isn't worth trying to get a zealot to change their stripes, whether they be republican, democrat, or muslim extremist. A fanatic is a fanatic everywhere.
Sean-336944
It must take guts because the last time a US president had the choice to give the order to have Bin Laden killed, he decided not to. If it wasn't a lack of guts, what was the reason Bush gave orders to NOT kill OBL at Tora Bora?
Sean-336944,
The Bush family has been in business with the Bin Landen family for years. GW had the same kind of guts his grandfather had when he helped finance the Nazi's in WW2 and was censured in the US Senate for his traitorous actions.
Obama did Osama, and no one can deny it.
GOD BLESS AMERICA, LAND OF THE FREE AND HOME OF THE BRAVE
God, guys, honestly I haven't felt this utterly joyful in a long, long time.
I share the joy you feel.
Incredible fete by our troops, led by a superb commander in chief. Planned since August, and not a leak anywhere.
Exactly.
All we knew was that there were drone strikes in Pakistan. Obama said he would get Bin Laden and he sure kept his word on that one.
All the hater's illogical reactionary comments and revisionist history can't change that.
Yes we know it was the military and not the President who actually stormed the compound, we're not stupid. They forget the President is a part of the military. He is the Commander in Chief.
He knows more about military operations at this point than any of his detractors. Guaranteed.
President Barack Obama the community organiser obviously has some skills. He's organizing our biggest community pretty well.
Patrick, the first mention of the lead was 8 months ago, the operation was only planned a week ago.
Until a week ago, the President only knew we had an idea where he was... but he obviously wasn't sure.
Also, I have seen quite a few military men and women, from Generals down to Privates, not agree with the President. I doubt President Obama knows more about military operations than McChrystal. McChrystal knew plenty about military operations, but not so much about political ones. While the C-i-C is the leader of the military, he is still a civilian.
So that guarantee, was it money back?
Indygirl are you really a girl or just an uninformed child - I have read your posts time and time again if someone is paying you to post your garbarge they are being shortchanged - if you are posting your own garbage then possibly you should hytail it to your local library because shild you are so uninformed it makes my teeth ache to think we paid for an education that you did not attend - Indiana - teach this child!
Sean I'm not sure where you are getting 3 trillion... my source "Cost of war" has the total for both wars running a 1.1 trillion, which is still an incredible amount of treasure to be spent on combat. Priceless is the treasure lost in the thousands of young men and women lost, above and beyond money.
I'm not being a hypocrite in any way, but I know from above you really don't know what that term means. I believe that no matter how good you are at something, someone is better.
It isn't about the president being smarter or more strategically minded than his advisors. Only a fool surrounds himself with inferior advisors. Even advisors are going to disagree amongst themselves as to the best way something could be done.
You think Bill Gates knows every line of code that goes in to Windows? Think Ford was the best mechanic on the assembly line? You think Carnegie knew how to prospect for iron?
So to recap, saying that McChrystal might be a better battle commander is not saying he would make a better president. It also doesn't mean the president should always take his advice about military matters. In fact the president was justified in firing the man.
I also never said anything about my views on the advice Bush was given, or his military prowess. These wars, like all successful wars, should have been short and given a definite aim. But like most hardcore partisans, if I'm not with you I must be a 100% Bush supporter who thinks the republicans can do no wrong...
I would fear the state of our military if a career politician and lawyer had a better grasp on military affairs than people who devoted their lives to the study of war, and went to colleges that taught such things.
Did you notice Obama choked on his words several times. Arrogant as ever.
Not a game changer. Now everyone bring on the vile comebacks. Protect this fraud forever.
u mad its not bush killing osama
Nothing like a partison Republican teabagger to pi** on a great day for America. You all are more concerned about power than you are about the good of the country.
You and your ilk are disgusting.
Choke on his words?
You're daffy!
Read the title to this article. Making this a political point for obama is msnbc's idea certainly not mine. Again can't respond like an adult. Liberals are immature and very angry. I disagree and then you attack. SICK
Hey Mort.
Listen to the video again. I'm sure you will anyway. He stuttered and stammered all over the place. Again, Libs only hear what they want to.
Yes, indygirl
You've shown the height of maturity with your commentary. I believe it's called a bait and switch.
As a conservative, I thought Obama's speech was excellent. I dont usually support Obama's policies but tonight I stood by him 100%.
indygirl: You are a very immature and pathetic person. The fact is that our President (yep, yours too, which should REALLY make you tantrum.) made the killing of this criminal a priority, unlike Bush, who was all talk and no action. Or, as we horseman say, all hat and no saddle. YOU are the one that will be choking on bile due to OUR President's great success. Now, go back to the paranoid delusional world of Beckistan, and quit bothering the rest of us.
Again your anger shows YOUR immaturity.
What the heck does choking on his words have to do with being arrogant? If anything, that just shows he was nervous, given the importance of the moment. And you are blaming libs for being angry?
Good try poor little Indy girl, but I am not angry. I feel sorry for you, and the anger that has been expressed is yours. But, haters will always hate, and people like you have very little real knowledge of the world.
Come on newdaydawning...Lets rise above it. I know we rarely agree on anything, you on the left and me on the right, but we both agree indygirl is nitpicking a little bit. I think its about time the liberals put Bush in the rearview mirror and concentrate on the tasks at hand, and they are numerous!
If you read the post at 8.7, from AZCHZD, indy girl: this person models the appropriate behavior for you. Now, do have an adult explain to you WHY that post is correct, and join us when you are ready to act like an adult.
2012. This changes nothing. So go be angry and bitter to another poster. You people are just lapping up the Koolaid.
Yep, point taken AZChzhd: You are quite right. I do admire your post by the way. That is exactly what should be said at this time.
newdayDAWNING10,
So i'm an adult if I kiss up to Obama and everything he does?? So, where did that logic come in for you with GW
indygirl...I didnt vote for Obama nor will I in 2012. But face it, there was nothing to dislike tonight about Obama and the accomplishment of eliminating bin Laden.
Tomorrow we can resume complaining about the policies of the Democrats and the president. But for now, we should celebrate and stand with our fellow American brothers and sisters from the other side of the political spectrum in unity.
You are an adult when you act like one. You are not, but I suspect that you are involved with the "teabaggers" a group that does not have the brain power to light a 5 watt bulb. Now, do find an adult to explain the issues to you. I am certain there is a coloring book somewhere that might help you to understand. Maybe.
Say what you want about the TP, newdaydawning, but without them there would be no discussion about the debt issues our country faces. This country would still be spending itself into oblivion.
You have to understand that the TP, even though hey caucus with the Republicans, are quite an independent bunch. Remember, they sided with the Democrats on numerous occasions, including failing to extend the Patriot Act and scrapping new military contracts. You may not agree with their policies but you cant say these 54 TP members toe the party line. They got Boehner's attention. He cant do anything without the TP support.
I'm sure somewhere in TX tonight, G Dubya is reading Curious George or My Pet Goat looking for whodunit :)
obama got osama
indygirl-3388536
Yeah, I noticed. Did you ever kill anyone? He may not have pulled the trigger but he authorized a specific operation to bring in America's #1 most wanted man. He knew there was going to be a fight and possible dead Americans, maybe bin Laden gets away again, or any/all political ramifications in the international arena. It's a lot different than daily operations.
Have any of you noticed how old the President looks lately. It's hard to be President anytime but even more so during a war. The only person I have seen age more the President Obama was Jimmy Carter. That man looked like hell for many years after he left office!
With all that being said, this is definitely a game changer. He would have to really screw up not to get re-elected again. Heck, the Repailinacan teabaggers can't even figure who gives them the best chance to win!
So in 2012 Obama will get my vote for a second time!
newday,
You just cant help yourself can you. Who do you think you are? They way you speak to people is so condescending. Would you be so rude to someone face to face.
Our government has known about this for over a week and we are just finding out?
And now comes our other little "teabagger" theotas. You offer nothing to the discussion, you never do. You are someone who needs to read everything you can get your hands on, particularly things that you disagree with. It might enlarge both your vocabulary, and your mind....that is if you can take in complex information, which is doubtful. Would I confront someone personally who spoke like you do? Absolutely. Stupidity is dangerous. One should make every attempt to educate the ignorant. Like you.
The difference with this President is that when he heard Bin Laden was hiding on the Afghanistan/Pakistan border, that's where he sent troops! Not to Iraq or Iran or even North Korea, but where Bin LAden actually was. Imagine that! And it took him just over 2 years... not 8!
Osama was hiding in a Mansion in islamabad Pakistan. not on the border..
It took GW 8 years and no cigar. So GW just plain FAILED.
Steve, all that means is that Obama's GPS works much better than Bush's unit, because a mansion in Pakistan is still a lot closer than Iraq, right?
Mike..
Iraq was the right war at the Right time.. we got rid of a mad man there too..
I appreciate a good joke as much as anyone, but this is real, serious news. It's a bit too soon for Amateur Hour.
The military is responsible for this, not Obama or Bush. Why give them credit for something they simply signed off on? If you work on an extensive project, who deserves the credit: you or your boss who told you that you could work on it? Stop making this about politics and put the honor where it lies: with the brave American military men and women who have made great sacrifices to accomplish this.
Dave in NM...I am not sure I understand the difference between Iraq and Libya at this point. It appears we involved in both of these countries for the same reason, liberating their people.
Sure, thinkrightnow... let's not give the Commander In Chief ANY credit at all. Anybody but Obama. You know, when a project of mine is successful, yes, I let everyone know that as long as my request is sensible, my boss approves the expenditures that allows me to do my job. I make sure my boss gets some credit, and I'm not threatened by that.
Sean, do some history searching.
The Iraqis were told that we would support them if the rose up against Saddam.
So they did.
The result? We stood by and watched them get slaughtered. We showed up 12 years late.
Hope you see the nuance.
Right, no uprising. Tell that to the thousands of Kurds and Shia murdered in the 1991 uprisings against Saddam Hussein while American troops were lined up on the Kuwaiti border. They were just you know, hanging out, drinking chai and gahowa.
Better yet, tell it to their families.
No way in hell for the pundits to spin this one.
If we have Increased Terror attacks around the World Do we blame that on Obama? I mean. really. if its to Obamas Credit that Osama is Dead. then if we see an UPTICK in Terror attacks at this Announcement that it must be Obamas fault too. Correct?
THANK YOU!
The increase in security would be to further keep Americans and others safe. We do no yet know the full reaction in the region - some may support the attack and others, faithful to Osama bin Laden may not agree. It is not a sign of any fault in our president.
According to steve and indygirl,
we should have just cowered and let Osama have his run of the world. We must FEAR retaliation instead of seeking justice, eh?
Republicans are truly the party of pretzel logic.
There is always a way for haters to spin good news Patrick. I feel sorry for them.
Steve-505729
So, are you saying that killing Osama was the wrong thing to do?
Phoenixaz.
Absolutely Not.
Steve-505729
Mike..
Iraq was the right war at the Right time.. we got rid of a mad man there too..
What did Sadeem do to America to cause America to waste her resources and military while Bin Laden ran from cave to cave plotting attacks on the USA and the infidels of the world?
The war should have been where it started in Afghanistan. But, Bush/Cheney were quick to jump into Iraq for the black gold.

Beverly my darling woman you have been the voice of reason on these posts and I thank you for that - without you I would despair - by the way I too was raised in Chicago and so glad to find a fellow citizen - go girl - I am your fan
This just in:
Obama 2012 in a landslide
What's really sad for Fox News is, over the next week at least, how are they going to be able to frame this as yet another example of Obama's failed Presidency? Give 'em a week - they'll think of something!
Fox was going with "drone" strike at first, and was setting the stage to give the credit to General Petraeus. Doh!
NOT a good day to be a Republican, but they'll get their "evil" back on soon enough.
Rick. We have a preview already from sourpuss Steve, but nothing he or Fox say will change the facts. An incredible triumph for Obama.
You are a partisan hack and half of what is wrong with this country. Enough you doof. Can we all celebrate as Americans?
Goes for you too Patrick, it is an incredible victory for America. Kudo's to the Obama admin for clearing this op.
Ozark your question is better directed at people like Steve.
Fox affiliates were also reporting the attack/killing had taken place last week. It would be nice if this network would report the news as it actually is and not attack the president, his actions and distort the truth.
Him too, Sir.
MG be glad that fox hasn't distorted bin ladens death to Pres Bush.
I am happy for the military for the success and for Obama approving the operation. But just what did Obama do besides approve the operation after he got information about Bin Laden's location in August of last year.
Ozark I actually have to agree with you. For good news of this magnitude, I'd rather see the partisanship and rhetoric put off to the side and just celebrate an AMERICAN victory.
Watching these groups gathered outside the White House and all you see is a group of happy americans, showing their PATRIOTISM, and as I said in the above post- THAT'S what it should be all about for this news.
What's going on: Based on your logic Eisenhower is the real hero of D-Day. FDR just authorized it. So, let me help you; The Commander in Chief is the President. In this case, his name is Barack Obama. All command stems from the Commander in Chief. The buck starts and stops there. That's why he's the President. If we wanted to honor our Generals, we start first with the Commander in Chief. There's a chain of command. Generals don't start or stop wars.
It changes nothing! Our economy under this administration will continue to go to 3rd world status, unemployment, Obama's buddy, GE, will still make billions and pay no taxes. I was in the Army Special Forces in Vietnam, you do your job everyday regardless of who is President...somedays your win is better than others and you keep right on going along.
Actually, it changes the fact that Osama bin Laden is no longer available to send out tapes. It also reflects a President who is decisive. It means that a decisive President with long term goals (longer than a four year program) has ideas and the will to put them to the test. As far as being in the armed forces, me too. Here's the deal. I did what I was told to do. I was not asked whether I liked the person who gave me the order or not. That's the key point. Mentioning being in the military means something. It means you do as you're told to do. I respect the military but your opinion as a soldier is only your opinion. The Commander in Chief of the Armed forces authorized the mission to eliminate a terrorist of the highest rank. It was done through the armed forces of the United States of which all Generals on down were required to fulfill. That was done successfully. The other issues I'm sure you're referring to are also of grave importance. I believe this actin reflects the determination of the President to carry them out. End of story. Good job all around. We're proud of you and you too Mr. President. Thanks.
it will change nothing. the republicans will find a way to spin this so either they are the ones (somehow) taking credit for this or this is somehow a failure for obama. i know that makes no sense, but neither does anything the GOP and their supporters do or believe in
It is wonderful news for those who lost loved ones on 9/11 but does not change the fact we have troops in harms way. I think this is an important event for the president since many say he has no backbone and grit. It also shows the importance of intelligent, methodical and skillful planning and that says a lot about our president, his choice of leaders and our military - on the ground and behind the scenes like special forces units. It's a great day for the US and our allies - a big thanks to ALL who were involved.
It is always amazing to me that the Obama naysayers have such great passion for what they think is wrong with the President while at the same time showing virtually no passion at all for something that is clearly right with the man. President Obama campaigned on the mission of getting Bin Laden. Mission accomplished. It seems to me that our current president has a much better grasp on the meaning of "Mission Accomplished" than his predecessor. President Obama did what he said he would do. Osama Bin Laden is dead. No matter what party you are affiliated with, this deserves recognition.
I agree Chills.
Dammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmnit, can all of you partisan hacks from both sides shut up? This is a great moment for Americans, not political parties. You are making me ill and ever saddened that we will never solve our problems here.
its impossible for anything to be apolitical in this current environment. every time a republican opens their mouth they will be criticized by the dems, and anytime president obama coughs the GOP will claim he is ruining the country. its a sad state for the country to be in but its the unfortunate truth
Could not say it better...put the politics aside, this is a victory for America with the great General Petreaus at the controls. I am Soldier who was wounded in this fight, and its time to put it all aside. It is a time to remember all those, including by brother-in-law and friends, who have died to give us this moment. The moment of justice. Put the politics on hold for while, and remember the costs that have brought us to this moment of justice for the victims of all the terrorist attacks led by this cold and lifeless terrorist. And also remember, this does not end the war.
AMEN!!! well said. We are all americans! GOD bless this country.
Hahahha!!! I spit pepsi all on myself on this hypocritical comment...ROFLMAO!!! (Commonsense_and_Truth) - "...put politics aside, this is a victory for America with the GREAT GENERAL PETREAUS at the controls"
Hahaha!!! How can you put politics aside when people like you add it in on the sneak tip. I have nothing against Petreaus...He's an awesome General, but he's not at the controls...Obama is the President a.k.a. "Boss" who tells Petreaus what to act on. He's actually at the controls. Here's how it works: Boss tells him what to do (sign off on it), General Petreaus gets the word but can't do anything directly (He's just informed of what's about to happen and agrees with the plan because it's an awesome plan. He either passes it down to grown forces or let the special forces take care of it); Special forces does what the President orders "According to Petreaus" (Osama's dead). How is Petreaus behind this? Sorry for your injuries all, but stop trying to gain sympathy for who you really support. Obviously it's not Obama or he would've been "...at the controls" in your statement. However, everything else you stated is absolutely correct. And by the way, I'm in Afghan participating in this war as we speak...and I'm not political in any way. I don't pick sides, or in your case, incinuate...I just know who the country chose as our current boss, and it's nothing you can change about that until it's time to choose someone else. You should know this if you're a soldier or marine or sailor or airman, etc.
Bear_it:
You may want to study how military operations are done. The President gives his goals based on the input of intelligence and military advisors. The Generals and CIA develop and execute the strategies. The operations are not approved by the President on a daily, monthly or yearly basis. The President is briefed on progrees, advised on what more is needed, and any suggested changes to the goals. The ONLY reason the President was involved on this operation is that it required his approval since they had to cross the border in to a sovereign country with whom we are not at war (which consequently is an act of war, unless the approved it prior to the crossing). The Generals and CIA gsthered the intel, planned the operation, and executed the operation. The President authorized the operation crossing the border.
TxChristopher "You have shown your complete stupidity if you think the president is actually involved in the day to day operations of the military"
Stupid...Hahaha. It's funny how people twist words to fit their argument. Day to Day is what you said, right? Well we're talking about one incident here, not 4 whole years. The president was behind this whole operation. Key word "This"...so yes I stand by what I said...not what you said. Don't call people stupid too fast if you've never worked for an agency. You know what's really funny to me is that if the president had never approved this operation, Osama would still be alive. Sounds like he's holding the remote to me. I'm not going to insult you by calling you stupid...i'm just incinuating. LOL!!!
Commonsense_and_Truth "The ONLY reason the President was involved on this operation is that it required his approval"
Wow, how much more proof of whose really "at the controls" do you need. This specific article is what we're all commenting on...which means you just proved me right with this one sentence. I know how military works, I served my time. The president is always at the controls...He's the commander in chief for crying out loud. He's "at the controls" when worse comes to worse, so why not give him credit when best comes to best. Enough said!!!
@Ozark Conservative - Perhaps you should go back and read the article and it's headline. It was a question about what effect, if any, the killing of OBL would have on Obama's popularity and reelection chances. Of course the responses would be political. (Even if the "community" collapses most posts that have a negative opinion of the Anointed One.) :-(
God bless our troops.....God bless our intelligence community.....God bless the victims of 911.....and GOD BLESS OUR PRESIDENT.
AMEN
Double Amen
Let's see....Dubya spent almost 8 years and got nowhere (other than racking up $1 trillion + and thousands of lives), and Obama spent two and got it done.
I'm with you Mae1strom....Obama did Osama and all the Teapublicans in the world cannot deny it.
I'm waiting to see if Palin or Rush or others try to take credit, or what the Teapublican "Spin" is on this.
Although I am loath to make this good news political, I will ask the following: 50 years from now, what would it look like to future generations if a sitting president who won a Nobel peace prize for his (successful) efforts to slow nuclear proliferation, ended discrimination against homosexuals in the military, and killed America's greatest enemy of the 21st century didn't win reelection? What would that say about us as a country, no matter how you feel about his policies?
Well I would say it wouldn't be without precedence. Winston Churchill comes to mind.
Peace does not come without a price. Sometimes the greatest peace has been won during battle. World Wars 1 and 2. And now this great victory.
I wouldn't worry about that because it's not going to happen. He will win, no doubt about it.
@UniversityofChicagoStudent - Well put. He's got my vote.
How about the same response the revisionist gave Truman for using the A bomb on the Japanese to end WWII
It will say that anything can be spun... and that the nobel peace prize has clearly lost its luster and that even a blind squirel finds a nut every once in a while.
This is a great day for America and it is very bothersome that this article takes the low road attaching politics to what was clearly something not political. The US military achieved a victory - not a politicial (ANY politician). Obama was in the right place at the right time, nothing more...
University of Chicago Student - I too am a a graduate of this great school - however under Friedman Economics realized the whole thing was BS kept my mouth shut and got out of there - good luck think on your own - do good and love you my child!
It changes nothing. For starters this happened mainly due to our intelligence services. Obama did NOTHING other then give a few oks. As usual he's stealing credit from others to hide his incompetence. A real victory would be if he stopped spending money for once.
if it was a republican president he would be taking much more credit and those on the right would applaud him for his "courageous actions"
Dang AJ, you are just as bad as any far left moonbat. May we celebrate as AMERICANS?
AJ, So we put the blame for all the ills in our country at the feet of the current president. However, when something positive and historic happens during his administration, we say he has done nothing. I've never mastered the art of talking out of both sides of my mouth, but I've certainly seen it done a lot.
Except increase the US presence, and increase the drone attacks, give the CIA instructions to make this a priority, other than that....wait, I guess that is what a REAL leader does. What we are learning from the "teabaggers" tonight is that haters will always hate.
Dont confuse the TP with mainstream Republicans, newdaydawning. They are nothing of the sort. There are plenty of misconceptions about the TP these days. To quote Dan Ackroyd from the movie Spies Like Us, "we mock what we dont understand." Thats exactly why I think the left displays their hatred toward the TP.
@!$%# you AJ
Good god people, shut up and celebrate the defeat of one of the most
vile enemies to have ever crossed our great nation. Stop nitpicking
over party ideals and personal feelings about our elected leaders and
acknowledge that today like any other is a great day to be an
American. We live in the greatest nation to grace the face of this
earth and it's high time we stopped fighting each other for 10 minutes
and held hands collectively and sang that great song penned in the
harbor during a bleak night in the war of 1812.
America will not bow to terrorists, regardless of what party our
president is from and we will never accept neither defeat nor will we
stand idle as violent men try to subjugate the minds and freedom of
the free people of this world.
I stand with you all proudly tonight as I did through both of my tours
in Iraq and my tour I'm Afghanistan and I congratulate both President
Bush and President Obama for their fortitude in doing what is needed
to keep our nation safe; I congratulate the US intelligence community
for their dedicated work that allowed this to finally happen. I
congratulate my fellow servicemen for their conviction and dedication
to their duty and I envy the soldier that made that fateful shot.
God bless America, we have once again showed the world that we will
not hide with our heads buried in the sand. If you hit us, you will
never be safe. We will come, we will persevere, we will be vigilant
and we will find you.
If there is an uptick in terror attacks in response to this then we
will respond with strength. We should never be idle, fearing the
reprisals of madmen worldwide. We are the mightiest nation with the
strongest people in the world and we must show our collective strength
in defense of our land, our lives and our freedom.
To borrow an important and fitting line from our own civil rights
movement: we will overcome. Not just terrorism, not just economic
uncertainty, not just natural disasters, but anything that can be
thrown at us, we will overcome.
Set your divisions aside and rejoice once more in the great land that
I for one would consider it a small price to lay my life down for. God
bless America and god bless you all.
AMEN!!!!!
AJ- i know all you republicans know how to do is twist the truth but i hate to break it to you but your idiot of a president bush spent us into our current deficit and into the greatest recession our country has seen- that is a FACT- Obama has spent a fraction of that to stimulate the economy and steer us away from the brink of a DEPRESSION that never happened. did you get that? do you want me to draw it on a Glenn Beck chalkboard so you can fully comprehend it?
It changes nothing really. And the push to give all the credit to Obama is sickening.
No less and no more sickening than this article talking about politics at a time of celebration, or your refusal to give any iota of respect to the man who oversaw the end of the greatest enemy to our country of the 21st century.
Look, you don't like him and won't vote for him, I get it. But tonight you have to be a man/adult and say "Congratulations, this is good news for everyone." You can do what you like with yourself tomorrow.
great post! a lot of us agree but don't have the stomach to post on MSNBC site.
While I am not a fan of Obama's policies and would not vote for him, he did it right. He called both President Clinton and President Bush to tell them, and even shared the credit with President Bush. Interesting that people want to give him all the credit, when he shares the credit. Seems people continue to hear what they want and only what they want. This is a win for America as a whole, and for the first time I saw leadership out of President Obama by sharing the credit with a previoius president, intelligence and military. It was not all him, and he was man enough to admit it.
youre an idiot
Commonsense_and_Truth== the first time I saw leadership out of President Obama
The same thing was said when our President ordered the killing of the Somali pirates.
Can't wait to see the spin Hannity puts on this. You know its killing him to have it happen on the "Anointed Ones'" watch. He was ready to make the issue cannon fodder for the next election if Binny boy wasn't found! He will probably say that the "Strike Team Leader" was a Republican and so was the round used for the "kill Shot"! God Bless our splendid Commander in Chief and alll the troops around the world. Yes the troops and vietnam vets like me who know the real meaning of cannon fodder.
wow do you have any concept of how many YEARS it took to develop the intelligence source who provided the information to this outcome? Giving the order to "go get someone" does not achieve the goal. This has taken 10 YEARS to find this man and the only people who deserve any credit for this are the military men and women and the intelligence community. Christ the president kept many of the policies that were put into place by the previous administration!
And don't forget Obama is against guns. We couldn't kill Osama without them. I guess guns are good for something after all.
Really? If you can't give Obama credit for his testicular fortitude in keeping a promise to get Bin Laden, then you can't give Bush credit for keeping us "safe" after 9/11 now can you! Obama doubled-down on Afghanistan and finding Bin Laden and the deed got done!
JoJo it was in Bush's best iinterest to keep Osama alive why else would he have an excuse to invade Iraq - remember the joke - when he looked under his desk for weapons of mass descruction - vomit time - it made me ill when I realized how he killed our young and women and maimed countless others, this man has no concience for god's sake he blew up frogs as a child a real pyschopath - the republican party chose him well - and all you people who went after President Clinton - look up Kathleen Fitzgerald who was Bush Senior's lover stop with your crap because there is enough crap to go around
Plus he gave this order after shellacking Donald Trump the day before. LOL
He is the ultimate multi-tasker.
and the final Karma, his announcement pre-empted Trump's show.
A happy day for all Americans, though. Whether they choose to acknowledge it or not.
Trump was trumped, yes. Now anything Trump says will sound like sour grapes.
