*** UPDATE *** This is the result of a U.S. action in Pakistan, killed by U.S. personnel, and that the United States has bin Laden's body. NBC's Savannah Guthrie reports, it was not a drone strike that killed bin Laden, it was "recent" Special Ops operation in Pakistan.
*** UPDATE 2 *** This is, by the way, the eighth anniversary of President Bush's 2003 speech on an aircraft carrier with the banner, "Mission Accomplished" behind him.
*** UPDATE 3 *** NBC's Shawna Thomas reports: CIA Director Leon Panetta called ranking Member of the Intel Committee Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD). Chairman of the House Intel Commitee, Rep. Mike Rogers (R-CA) is on a red-eye flight back to DC.
*** UPDATE 4 *** NBC's Mike Viqueira reports that the president called House Speaker Boehner personally to inform him. NBC's Kelly O'Donnell reports that Boehner says he will hold all comment until after the president speaks.
*** UPDATE 5 *** NBC's Athena Jones reports that a crowd has begun to gather in front of the White House. There are about 50 people out there and it seems to be growing. They're shouting and rejoicing and just finished singing the Star Spangled Banner. They erupted in applause afterwards. They're now chanting U-S-A. They had begun to sing, "We Are the Champions" and more people were running up. There is at least one police car parked next to the group.
*** UPDATE 6 *** WNBC's Jonathan Dienst reports that the New York Police Department will be ramping up security measures across the city as a precaution given the news Bin Laden has been killed, according to Paul Browne, an NYPD spokesman.

The banner was for the crew of the USS Abraham Lincoln, at the end or her tour of duty in the Persian Gulf.

Every American deserves to view his body on a marble slab no matter how gruesome or mangled the body may be. I want to see it for myself. The government released the pictures of Saddam Hussein's sons and should do the same here.

I feel Obama is fiscally the most irresponsible President that ever ran this country. The most common statement is that “Bush left him this mess.” Bush may have left a mess but not anywhere near the mess that it is now facing us. Ron Paul is right, we need to limit the Presidents “War Power Act,” and go back to having to go to Congress to declare war.” I am glad Bin Laden is dead and has faced justice but if it is Justice you want get rid of Attorney General Eric Holder. He wants to play politics with justice by bringing war criminals to civilian courts and then will not bring to court the Philadelphia Black Panther individuals who blatantly used voter intimidation (carrying clubs) to keep whites out and was caught on camera. Obama can take credit if he chooses, for the military, intelligence community and brave shooters took out the guy on his watch. Everyone with common sense knows this hunt has been ongoing for some time.
I will give Obama credit, for he isn't a favorite of mine, for giving the order to pull the trigger. I hope he didn't give the order as a campaign piece, but out of a sense that it was needed. Clinton didn't give the order during his administrations when Billy Waugh had him in his scope.
Get used to the fact that 70% of the nation doesn't feel comfortable with the Obama administration policies. That is why he has a low rating in the polls. Oh, his ratings will increase over his decisions, as he stated several times in his speech to the nation, but when the gas price increases, your grocery costs go up again, and inflation hits, any positives this week will return to the negative ratings again.

What great timing for Obama to save face again by announcing this incredible distortion about Bin Ladin! Within 36 hrs. there's a royal wedding to save face of the British monarchy. Obama saves face by popping up with a long form birth certificate fresh ink and all. Gaddafi and wife save face by running into hiding, after missles allegedly killed his family. The great Satan Bin Ladin is dead somewhere supposedly to save a lot of faces including Obama's face.....so show us his dead face and dna please to prove its actually him with an explanation as to why it took so many years, lives and money to profiteer from. I don't believe a word of this report, it's like his sudden long form birth certificate....a fake and a fraud....Obama made a huge error by puffing his chest out for this announcement, yet once again he has made another bad judgement, did he not think this thru or what, this report will not be satisfying to Americans who's loved ones are dead and injured fighting overseas because of Bin Ladin, not without solid proof and many unanswered questions for which he has no clue what the answers are. Over the years following 9/11 there were too many reports of Bin Ladin's death, this demon has long been buried and burning in the fires of hell, however his bones are still worth digging up to save Obama's horrifically failed presidency, is it really worth this shameful dog and pony act of his?

Tonight, we celebrate the end of one man's long reign of terror to the American People. As a veteran, I want to thank my brothers and sisters who still wear the Uniforms of our Nation's Military who have sacrificed much for our freedom and way of life. I want to offer my most extreme congratulations on the team that carried out this highly, sensitive operation. As for the families who lost loved ones and the survivors of 9/11: Not a day goes by that you don't miss them, and I know I can't even begin to understand the pain you felt each day afterward; nor will I ever experience the joy you feel right now when you heard the news that Osama Bin Laden has met his demise; But I pray that you will finally get the peace that you so richly deserve; and that your loved ones can truly rest in peace.
To President Obama: Sir, you have kept your campaign promise that you will kill Osama Bin Laden. I know that mulling over the details and the intel reports on where to find him required the utmost patience in order for you to give the green light to take him out. I thank you for your patience and perseverance in getting the job done right. Well handled, Sir.
Let what happened in Pakistan serve as a warning for any and all who dare to come over and harm the freedom loving people of the world, for you may win the first round, but in the long run, you will lose more than the war; indeed, it will cost you YOUR LIFE!!!!
