Bottom line is there is NOT a credible candidate out there who has what it takes to beat President Obama!

Democrats got shellacked in 2010 because of the MSM & right wing whack jobs constant messaging that it was ALL about J O B S & the ecomony!

So far they've focused on ANYTHING but what they were sent to DC to do!

The voters in 2012 and not going to be snookered again!

Keep in mind, the house may very well swing back & we'll be saying Hello Speaker Pelosi again! ;o)

Will President Obama's revealing his birth lay doubts to bed. Or is this more infotainment for the birthers and T-baggers to capitalize on for the election? After all they have nothing else.

It's time to take a stand. Will the real republican PLEASE stand?

"Democrats got shellacked in 2010 because of the MSM & right wing whack jobs constant messaging that it was ALL about J O B S & the ecomony!"

Yes, Feisty, but that was only PART of it. Everybody knows turnout was low in the non-presidential election cycle. Just goes to show- we ALL need to be engaged next time! (and, from what I see in Wisconsin and these town halls, we will be!)

First-quarter GDP was an eye-opener. If gas and food prices continue to rise, and President Obama is unable to find a debt-reduction plan he's able to sign on to, it may not matter who the GOP candidate is. There's something going on with the President's poll numbers, and it isn't good for the White House.

It could be that the 2012 election will be between President Obama and an alternative.

Any alternative.

Jeezis- can you IMAGINE! They'd all have to leave the country like Limbaugh (didn't), but Hannity would still be playing that stupid promo that says they stopped the 'Pelosi, Reid and Omama Express" or whatever it is.

Oh, and ITM- I ALMOST voted for McCain the first time he was going to be on the ticket, but his own party of filthy tricks got him off that ticket before I had the chance. Never considered any Republicans since. Who's fault is that, now, do you suppose?

Feisty, you took the words out of my computer.

I would add: the Republicans deserve to wander in the wilderness at least 40 years, firstly for the failures of the Bush administration, and secondly for the thuggery they have displayed since losing the White House two years ago.

What a sad commentary on today's politics, Amy, that the Republicans couldn't be gracious in defeat and work with the President and his party for the good of the American people. Contrast that to how the Democrats behaved after the 2000 election.

Yeah, ITM- must be why there is this huge push on now for voter ID. To avoid this kind of controversy, right? (but wait- why would they not have rolled it out for the 2004 election?)

ITM---I did in fact believe that President Bush was not legitimately elected but I never called him any names, even after the debacle he created with 2 unfunded wars and the collapse of our economy. I always gave him the respect due to his office. And even though the Democrats had reason to believe that they Al Gore should have won the election, I never heard any of them say that they wished George Bush would fail. Instead they found ways to compromise with the administration. Contrast that to what we have seen in the last 2 years.

The reason you didn't hear it is because it was coming from your side. I have heard some of the most ruthlesss and vicious things said about Bush that I have never heard said about a POTUS.

There are thousands of quotations from Democrats on just this issue alone not to mention all of the other names he was called.

Obama better keep on campaigning, he will need all that time, regardless of what republican wins the nomination.

Wonder when obama will suggest increasing FICA taxes from the minimum wage earner on up to pay for his "status quo" approach on medicare and medicaid?

Not for nonthing, I think there are a few candidates the GOP can put up thst would attract votes....not mine...ever....but viable. Tea Party darling Ron Paul plays into the the heart of the GOP that still belieives Obama is a Muslim and was born in Kenya. Over 40% of Republican still believe that despite all evidence to the contrarty. Add in the racists, bigots and other crazies and I think he"s over 40% of the GOP base. With 2 years to compaign and gain name recognition...and daddy's help...Lbertarians love daddy...he may move up the polls quickly. Romney will appeal to the less than crazy base if he stops pandering to them and goes back to his "progressive"....pardon, I had to stop to laugh, roots.

Just some thoughts from an Obama guy.

Ira, should Ron Paul actually gain the nomination, he will be the lead pallbearer at the funeral of the GOP.

The Liberterian ideology is what underlies the current round of activities of the House majority now. The Ryan budget is an example of the ideological rigidity that Paul would bring to the Presidential debate - and he'll be eaten alive. Even some Tea Party voters are upset with the Ryan budget.

However, I must say, it would be a lovely funeral. I'll even send some dead roses to it.

    John A.-400474...

I'm not saying he will win..but he will attract a lot of crazies, closeted crazies, and a GOP base that loves him.

Look at this blog and the number of GOP conservatives that post here. Contrary to everything they've seen over the last few day and 2 years, they hate Obama. I'm not saying this blog is by any way a scientific poll but if there are this many here, how many nationwide. The 2010 elections may not be an anomoly. Ther's still a black man as President and it does not stand well with these people no matter how good he is. For God's sake, his wife can't even say kids should eat healthy foods without being piled on.

I would never vote for Ron Paul, but I must say he distinguishes himself in his behavior. His voice is straightforward and even though his beliefs are different than mine, I do think as a human being he has character and integrity. I think a lot of the Republicans could benefit by his example. I've never heard him promote all this bullsh!t birther crap or heard him say anything denigrating about the President or anyone else. His ideology however does not qualify him, but I believe he is a decent person, unlike 99% of the Republican leadership.

If I am wrong about his personality, then let me know.

Democrats love our country and it's people; don't know what GOP/TP stand for?

In addition - having a monopoly on a product (oil, gas) that one can't live without and then boosting about profit margins after forcing people to pay unforgiven ridiculously high prices - doesn't make a smart or great CEO...

It makes a greedy careless bastard...and guess what - it don't take a degree from Harvard to be that!!!

Get a heart and realize people are your best money makers - not greed.

Because people will get tired of being taken advantage of and WE will find away to stop greedy bastards!!!

    TRUTH - not CRAP

Thank you and GOD BLESS AMERICA

soldier - you can always go to europe or asia and pay their prices for fuel, taxes and food.

Be thankful that oil is traded in $$$ and not another currency.

You do realize that there is a difference in profit margins, reported profits and comparison of profits over the same period 1 year earlier. right?

Some say to “give up the bashing of Bush and Cheney” but what they need to recognize is that while there isn’t much to be gained by “beating on” Bush-Cheney there is a real need to not forget their gross irresponsibility and costly performance. As long as there are still those who strongly and stubbornly supported them and all that they did, who are of the same mentality today, who actively seek to reestablish the same style of government again, then Bush-Cheney, and especially what they cost this country, should never be forgotten or excused.

Those who supported them are today literally seeking to instal another ‘puppet’ whose ‘strings they can again pull’ for the sole benefit of the few, while once again the majority, including the total middle-class, would loose more and just be fed more subterfuge. The ultra-conservatives, the Special Interests, the powerful, influential and extremely wealthy few are aggressively and arrogantly using their power and wealth to con and manipulate public opinion in order to achieve their self-indulgent ends. There are those representatives who, while totally focused on their own political ambitions, will do whatever is the bidding of those few. Together they actively use creative appeals, without conscience, to biases, prejudices and emotional attachments just to dupe and sway the public hoping to destroy their opponents and succeed in deceptively again gaining the control they so selfishly abuse.

No, Bush-Cheney should not be forgotten, their actions and the drastic costs should be vividly remembered and continually faulted so that everyone realizes what returning to ‘more of the same’ would cost.

Really spot on analysis & commentary there RG! (briton accent assumed in honor of will & Kate today LOL)

      Bu-SHAME-ey on them! Simply Bu-SHAME-ey!

But seriously, RG...you are absolutely correct. The BUSH family has enough skeletons rooted in their history, just here in TX, to fill volumes. It was all about creating a dynasty for the family and thereby setting they and their friends up for life on TAX DOLLAR lifetime support. (see; Cheney, Halliburton) Just how many pension does papa and mama BUSH collect in their dottage. Can we afford to let folks get a separate pension for every service they perform for the nation anymore? Even though just being an ex-president gets one pretty set for life. I'd be happy with one pension.

The last 30 years WILL go down in US history as the worst era for the middle class since the Great Depression. Yes, It started with Reagan and has gotten progressively worse; less the Clinton roadblock they just waited out. 2000 was a conservative pendulum swing year and they used US All for the decade since to get all RICHified.

Now it's their turn to reap what they've sown. The People's revenge will be a bitter pill for the well-heeled but they've planted some mighty nasty seed over the course of the last 2 or 3 years and the harvest is coming. DEMOCRATS...LET'S ROLL!

      Missy:

Stop with the exaggeration. If you don't like Texas, MOVE! You sound like your not from here anyway. Oh I forgot about Travis County........

Since you want to speak so ill of fellow Texans and the State, you are free to move to Chicago, New York, Cali or any other Liberal stronghold. I bet your family has a lot of skeletons too.

There are far more Super Rich Oil Dynasties in Texas. There are many people in Texas that are ultra rich and has nothing to do with the Bushes.

Don't worry Missy. We Texas Democrats aren't leaving. It is our perogative to stay and try to improve upon the one sided, lopsided, top heavy mechanism that are Texas GOP policies.

Oh no you mentioned, "She who is not to be named!"

I'm glad to have not seen her name or tweets discussed here on first read for quite some time. Good points about Rommney but if he falters who is the next establishment candidate with name recognition? There is a big downgrade from Rommney to Hunstman.

Also I'm hoping you will be following Obama's advice and putting the birther story and carnival barkers like Trump aside.

Why I think that Pres. Obama will probably win re-election. He can't win without Independent voters. If the economy continues to be a problem and food and gas prices continue to go up he could loose their support. Take a look at his approval rating in Pennsylvania.
