Obama to Oprah on the birth certificate, per the New York Daily News: "Why did you wait so long?" Oprah asked. "Two weeks ago a huge debate was initiated about where our budget needs to go," he told Winfrey. "During the course of this major debate where I gave a big speech and the Republicans voted on their proposal, the biggest news was this birth certificate thing. I said to my team, look, even though this is not usually what the state of Hawaii does...Even though the Republican governor of Hawaii, the Democratic governors of Hawaii, all the various officials had confirmed that I was born here, let's ask them for a special dispensation where they will go ahead and provide us with the original to see if we can put this to rest," he said.
"We are living in a very serious time. And America has huge potential and opportunity to seize the 21st century. We're only gonna get there, though, if we have a serious conversation about the things that matter to people," Obama said. "We can't be distracted by sideshows and carnival barkers going around, trying to get attention."
“The question of whether President Barack Obama was born on U.S. soil will have zero impact on the 2012 campaign but could significantly damage Republicans’ prospects for retaking the White House if it lingers. It also keeps the general working for the administration, effectively delaying any potential political ambition the he might have until well after Mr. Obama’s re-election campaign."

Bingo. That would seem to be obvious. Unless you're Donald Trump, Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee, and the other GOP candidates for 2012. They won't be able to let go of the issue because it's what the TParty wants to hear. Watch as it morphs into college transcripts, social security records, selective service forms, and whatever else the conspiracy wing can dream up.

I am sick of this because I really want to see debate over the fundamental issues -- the budget, debt, jobs, 3 wars, etc... -- if we don't have these debates, we are only pushing them off.
But I must add this -- my husband is a serious techie -- and he used to make fun of birthers, but now he doesn't know what to think. He definitely thinks this is a doctored photoshop document.
Obama would have been better off to ignore the whole thing than to release this document.
And I guess we shouldn't forget, transparency was also a serious issue. Remember?
Get serious. in this day and age there is no way Obama and his team would release a doctored photo-shop document. They would just let people keep speculating and guessing.
But out of curiosity, does your techie husband think they photoshoped the newspaper announcement of the birth?
As CNN pointed out...those contemporaneous newspaper birth announcements were created by the newspapers themselves, directly from the Hawaiian Health Department index and NOT from any private, third party.
But the lady's husband is correct: Obama's long-form Certificate of Live Birth document wasn't a scan of a file, but a computer-generated "abstract" from another sourced document.

People that believed the nonsense about his being born in the U.S. will continue to believe that. My wife believes it, and I cannot convince her, even with the utter logic of it all. When I ask why such a thing could have happened, and he was destined to be our President, elected in 2008, she has no answer, but according to her, "It is a conspiracy."
Some of our friends feel the same way. When asked how they get their news, it seems to come through E-Mails, and friends. Newspapers, cable news channels, local news does not interest them. Much more entertaining to get mail that depicts Obama in African clothing, with a bone in his nose. Just pure racism and ignorance. No wonder I live in a RED state.
Forget the budget, jobs and the debt ceiling. I want to see Michelle and Barak's wedding license!!!

It's very hard to see how the Republican party can attract voters -- young voters, unaffiliated voters, educated voters -- when they cannot stop the swirling "conspiracies" and seem instead to whisper them to the next person, served with a dollup of racism. Fred Davis' comments in Roll Call are an example: He laments the fact people pay attention to the issue. Claims that the President should have done this two years ago (he did, Fred), and wonders whether or not the President will have to answer for the delay (there was no delay, Fred) ....whispers, rumors....innuendo. It appears to be all that the Republican party offers to voters these days. Here are some serious problems we face: education, immigration, health care. We have choices to make about foreign policy, our role as police answering 911 calls from around the world, our habits of consumption. When Fred Davis made Sen. McCain's ads, they said nothing about John McCain and were satirical and ironic in their depiction of then-candidate Obama. When Fred Davis made ads for Carly Fiorina, he pilloried Sen. Boxer -- again, caustic humor but no serious discussion. When Fred Davis touches something else (another candidate or issue), I will automatically turn away.

I know that the US Government would not issue a Passport without providing a legimate birth certificate, why should the President of Propaganda get a free ride for over two years. I am confused. I hear people telling me that at long last Pres. Obama newly released long-form Hawaiian Certificate of Live Birth document "proves" he was born in Hawaii and is a U.S. citizen. But nobody has been able to tell me just what new information listed on this new document proves anything? As far as I can see, the only really new information is the unnotarized signature of an attending physician, Dr. Sinclare, who has been dead for eight years now. So what is it about this document that would cause everyone to throw up their hands and say: "See, now do you believe Obama was born in Hawaii on August 8, 1961?"

As a servant of the people of the US, the president had no right to hide or conceal his personal document.He should have known better. Think he will refute the paste up accusations in 2 and a half years?
