In an interview with ABC yesterday, House Speaker John Boehner “said President Obama needs to ‘grow up’ in talks over deficit reduction.” On the topic of the president’s deficit-reduction commission (which, by the way, not a single House Republican on it voted for): “‘While I didn't agree with everything they did, there was a lot in their proposal that was worth of consideration. And what did the president do? He took exactly none of his own deficit reduction commission's ideas. Not one. Come on! It's time to grow up and get serious about the problems that face our country,’ Boehner said.”
At the same time he told Obama to "grow up," Boehner said he "won’t guarantee a vote on raising the debt limit, the latest threat in an increasingly high stakes game of chicken with the White House over whether Congress will inch closer to letting the nation default on its credit," Politico says.
“Boehner, in an interview with POLITICO here Monday, also demanded that President Barack Obama give in to Republican demands to slash spending and dramatically change ‘the way we spend the peoples’ money.’”
More debt-ceiling debate: Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), who’s up for reelection next year, is in his home state and this morning will speak out against raising the debt ceiling without a more long-term budget fix in place in what he’s calling “Commonsense Solutions Week.” He will talk about his support for the Corker-McCaskill CAP Act (which would cap the amount the federal government can spend as a percentage of GDP each year) and the Udall-Shelby balanced-budget amendment). But Manchin will also talk about protecting Social Security and Medicare.
He will hit President Obama for voting against a debt ceiling in 2006 but wanting to raise it now. And he will hit Congress and the president for not being able to “agree on a plan to reduce our federal debt.” He will also say, in part, per prepared remarks: “There are some in Washington who will say this position is irresponsible, that it jeopardizes our economy and our markets. Amazingly, Washington is the only place where agreeing to trillions of dollars of additional debt and avoiding difficult budget decisions is the ‘responsible’ thing to do. The truth is, raising the debt ceiling without a real budget fix would be the definition of irresponsibility.”
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this post incorrectly stated the purpose of the Corker-McCaskill CAP Act as a cap on the amount of debt the U.S. can incur. It is actually a cap the amount the federal government can spend as a percentage of GDP each year.

Bohner needs to figure this thing out. All of Congress needs to "Grow Up". Polls are out on Sunday Morning political talk shows!
76% of Americans do not approve of the job that Congress is doing.
68% of those beleive the Congressional leadership is taking the country in the wrong direction
78% believe nothing will get done by the 2012 election
It looks like another shift will occur, and the beat goes on. Nothing ever gets done because all we do is vote out people from one extreme to the next.
They are aggressive and stubborn when advocating keeping taxes down .... most notably when it is for the very wealthy .... and they say they want to reduce government spending and the deficit .... even when they demonstrated that wasn’t ever their priority under Bush-Cheney and not when benefiting Special Interests and the select few. They say they will resolve all of the problems .... but all they have demonstrated is to belligerently fault and block every effort without ever offering any bipartisan or constructive effort. They want the majority, the average American to vote for them .... but who they arrogantly cater to is Special Interests and the powerful, influential and extremely wealthy few who strongly support them and together they just aggressively spend unlimited effort and money to con and manipulate the majority. The people, especially the total middle-class who have constantly lost under Republican leadership, want financial responsibility, honesty and conscientious effort to resolve the problems, create jobs and to bring the economy back to the 2000 level .... but what the Republicans arrogantly offer is for everyone to just believe that giving more to the wealthy will do the trick .... even when Bush-Cheney convincingly proved that the ‘trickle down’ theory is a total fraud. Based on actions versus deceptive rhetoric, which is often offered coupled with bazaar antics just to fault the Democrats, what can the people really expect from the Republicans .... when the obvious is seen, then the logical decision should be to reject the deceptive efforts, be insulted by being taken for granted and to refuse to be duped and manipulated. Whatever people’s biases, prejudices and emotional attachments, they still need to be objective and rational and avoid being conned into decisions against their own best interests.
I'm for rolling the Bush tax cuts back to the Clinton era for EVERYONE. Clinton left office with this country running in the black. Under George W. Bush, the surplus money disappeared and we were mired in two wars for which Bush, true to form, provided no funding. I say "true to form" because Bush, when he was governor of Texas, instituted many programs but provided no means to pay for them. Yes, he left Texas with a huge deficit. I say give up the Bush tax cuts and get this country back on an even keel....that would be a start to paying off our deficit.
You have to forget about Bush and blame everything on Obama or the Republicans will call you names
Clinton was working with a REPUBLICAN congress it was a good fit. If you really know ANYTHING Clinton left a RECESSION for Bush ...sorry. Truth hurts I voted for Clinton twice Iliked him a lot he was good also very fortunate. He took over while the economy was on the rise, raised taxes a little, CUT SPENDING A LOT, and a Huge .com bubble on wall street. Good Pres. though
Typical and expected response from Republicans.Their campaign slogan if you don't do it my way I'll call you names.
What a bunch of sissy boys
Make no qualms about it .The Republicans could care less about the working man.
Otherwise they would be talking about jobs not birth certificates
