Barbour's difficult path

At last December's Republican Governors Association meeting in San Diego, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour (R) gave a clue about his eventual decision not to run for president in 2012.

Reporters in attendance asked Barbour, 63, what his presidential decision would hinge on. His answer: Whether or not this is what he wanted to spend the next 10 years of his life doing -- two years running for the office, four years in first term, and another four years in a second term.

And it turned out to be the explanation he gave today, when he announced he won't jump into the 2012 race.

"A candidate for president today is embracing a 10-year commitment to an all-consuming effort, to the virtual exclusion of all else," Barbour said in a statement. "His (or her) supporters expect and deserve no less than absolute fire in the belly from their candidate. I cannot offer that with certainty, and total certainty is required."

Yet there was another certainty for Barbour: His path to the presidency would have been a difficult one.

Part of it was lack of name ID, especially outside the Washington Beltway. In the most recent NBC/WSJ poll, only 1% of national GOP primary voters said Barbour was their top choice for president in a potential field of nine Republican candidates.

In a smaller five-candidate field, Barbour's support ticked up to just 3%.

Another part was geography. Being the governor of Mississippi -- a solid Republican state in presidential elections -- most likely wouldn't have benefited a Barbour-led ticket in a general election.

And a final part was resume. In that same NBC/WSJ poll, being a former lobbyist -- as Barbour was before becoming governor -- was viewed as the worst candidate attribute, worse than having multiple marriages, being a FOX News commentator, or being a leader of the Tea Party movement.

That and the fact that even Cal Thomas and Charles Krauthammer have pointed out Barbour's less than truthful account of civil rights in his state and his involvement in white's only groups, his jobs as paid lobbyists for big corporate interests, etc. Truth is, Barbour doesn't have a chance and he knows it and I seriously doubt it has a thing to do with not wanting to "invest 10 years" of his life--that 10-year aspect was known when he dipped his toes into the waters of running for president.

In today's age and times, who would want the job of President? Facing $14 Trillion worth of debt, an insane asylum called Washington DC, everyone wanting something from the government and continual abuse from the press... I'd pass too... I don't have that much desire or energy.

Hell, it has to be hard on Obama... he's going to set up a commission to investigate the oil companies and find out if there's any price gouging going on. I'm sure it will take most of Obama's day to oversee the DOJ to find out why Americans are paying higher gas prices. I don't think Obama has the intelligence to realize that higher prices are caused by the speculators taking advantage of the turmoil in the middle east.

Having watched the individuals that republican select to run for office I doubt the ability of any of you to tell the difference between an intelligent individual and a half Governor Beauty Queen.

republicans are easily taken in by the most transparent nonsense imaginable; Death Panels, Euthanasia, Kill Grandma, Birthers, voting for George W. Bush, a man who was unable to compose a complete sentence in the English Language. A stunning level of gullibility.

Not being able to tell that Obama, a graduate of Harvard Law, Magna Cum Laude, is intelligent and knowledge, further displays the standard republican inability to recognize intelligence when it is right in front of you.

In short, you are the perfect example of a conservative / republican / teabagger.

Patrick said: Curious why it is ok to denigrate someones intelligence, but not their appearance?

Because the liberals make the claim that Obama is so intelligent. In regards to setting up a panel to investigate why gasoline prices are so high, Obama is playing politics. If he was concerned about how much we were paying at the pump, he would actually do something. Tell me, is it a lack of intelligence, or is it something else? You decide.

John Devine - have you actually seen Obama's college records? I was under the impression he had all of them sealed. Prove he was Magna Cum Laude. It appears as though you may be somewhat duped. I know it may be hard to believe that your all worshipful master might not be all that but intelligence is registered in quotient points. Where is the demonstration of those quotient points when Obama does really stupid things like creating another government extention that investigate's the obvious? The man is trying to score political points while maintaining his high energy price stance. He could do intelligent things like threaten to open up the oil reserves. When GWB did it, the price at the pump fell immediately. Obama could force the issuance of more drilling permits but so far, it's only been one permit since the moritorium. He could threaten to open up Anwar for drillling... he could do a lot of things but what he is doing is just plain stupid.

Redhead - I don't have a problem with anyone making fun of anyone else... but when it's the main point of your post, it's extremely juvenille. You didn't comment on his reasoning, his ability to know that he doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell of ever becoming president... you commented on his belly. And, what about Nancy Pelosi? I admire the amount of money she spends on Botox. She's adding to the economy. It's Nancy's socialistic attitude I can't stand about her, among other things like; do as she says and not as she does.

Dumbo turned out to be a hero. Mississippi has the highest % of obese people in the nation. As a MS native, Barbour is only slightly less disgusting than Trent Lott, but he's quite the model of MS residents.

Overweight isn't healthy in any possible aspect you can come up with. In MS's case, its from eating cheap fast food and all-you-can-eat buffets. Before Katrina, there were 48 of these in an 80-mile stretch of the coast.

I love it when 'conservatives" rant about Obama and gas prices. The price of gas is an example of the free market (that you profess to worship) in action, you dopes! It's supply and demand. Why is Obama looking for illegal speculation? Because it's all he CAN do. The president doesn't set the price of gas, or toothpaste, or prescription drugs, or houses. Obama has to look like he's doing something because we Americans think it's the president's job to swoop to the rescue. I never got mad at Bush for gas prices (there were plenty of legitimate reasons to be mad at him) and I won't get mad at Obama for them either. Spending too much on gas? Drive less.

And, by the way, if you're going to cast aspersions on others' intelligence, it might be a good idea to learn the correct spelling of "moratorium." Either that, or learn how to use a spellchecker.

As for his weight, he is 63, by the time he turns 65 and he will be eligible for Medicare. Hailey will be handed one of Paul Ryan's vouchers, for elderly care. Hailey will be accepted, to an insurance company, even though his ample a$$, will be driven around in a U-Haul. His pre-existing condition, blubber butt and all, will eventually receive the best medical care, our tax dollars can buy.

After due thought and consideration, I have decided to start a write in campaign for President of the United States. This for all primaries in the 50 states that comprise the U. S. A.

I have come to the conclusion that things in Washington D. C. are very much broken and will never be fixed as long as all of the insiders remain in control. New and fresh blood is needed in the Nations Capitol. Re-electing the same old guard will not solve the problem.

I do not have the required $10,000.00 filing fee to get my name on the ballots around the Nation. I do not want donations or contributions. I will do this all from the free internet social web sites such as Facebook, Twitter, My Space and any other free forum. Why waste money to enrich someone Else's pocket book? I am there for asking that you write my name in on a write in ballot, that is if you agree with my thinking. Below is what I propose if elected by the people of the United States in the election in 2012. I am an American, not a Republican, Democrat or any other political affiliation, just an AMERICAN.

I will first order all of our military home from all around the world, except South Korea for very apparent reasons there. I will however replace the U. S. Army units there with the 3rd Marine Division from Japan. I will close all foreign military bases through out the world saving millions or maybe even billions of U. S. tax payers dollars that are spent in foreign countries for rental and operation of those bases. The world does not need us to be its police force. They should be self reliant and use their own money and resources including their population to protect themselves. That money can be used to re-open bases that were closed in America because of budget cuts. This will create jobs here in America. There is no place in the world we can not reach with our present weaponry and or aircraft in a matter of minutes to just a few short hours. We should always be ready to deploy troops in a few short hours to any where in the world from the United States or our naval fleets. Then I will inform all of the leaders of the world that if anyone from their country attacks American soil the retaliation will be swift and complete. They had better get their government in order and leave us alone. Basically it is if you don't strike me I won't knock you down and stomp on you. I also know all I have to know about foreign policy. That is that the President sets foreign policy for the United States.

I will also order the Secretary of the Treasury to stop all foreign aid payments to every country in the world. We do not need to support all of these foreign governments who take our money with one hand and stab us in the back with the other.

I will also order all states to enforce all federal immigration laws and close the borders of America to all illegal immigrants. Legal immigration is a very good thing and important to the continued growth of America. At the same time I will also order all state, county, and city police departments to reduce their traffic divisions to only issuing citations when an accident occurs or an extremely blatant violation in noted. Traffic control should not be used as an illegal form of taxation of our citizens. Those officers currently in traffic control can be better used to combat crime in the cities and also controlling drug abuse.

I will also instruct the Secretary of the Treasury to enact a minimum 50% tax on all imported goods made in a foreign country that are manufactured by an American based company and imported into America. I will also institute sanctions against any American based business who exports our jobs to foreign countries.

I will also fix the thing that is most broken with our veterans. The V.A. Hospital system. The biggest objection to a national health care system is caused by the way we take care of our veterans. I will clean up the V. A. hospital and medical system to make it the best in the world. I will make sure that any person who ever put on a uniform in any of our armed forces will be covered regardless of what their income is. That will only apply to those who receive a general or honorable discharge. Those who received a BCD, UD, or DDC will not qualify. If we eliminate our biggest objections to national health care, the insurance companies will be forced to bring their premiums into line with reality. A national insurance program can also be created (use strictly optional) supported by premiums, not tax dollars.

As for our Federal Income Tax I will institute a flat tax on every one and every business. IRS will not need to harass our citizens. They will have their hands full keeping American businesses monitored and their taxes collected. Not like now where the largest corporations and banks do not pay taxes but receive back millions in refunds.

I will require congress to enact simple laws that are easy to understand and implement. I will remind them daily that they represent the people of the United States of America not some special interest group or big business. I will daily appear before them and read them the preamble to the Constitution of The United States of America. I will also tell them they are no longer Democrat or Republican but Congressmen and Congresswomen of the Congress of the United States. It is their duty and responsibility to promote the general welfare of its citizens not big business or special interest groups. I will also instruct the Vice President to do the same in the Senate as he will be the Chairman of the Senate of the United States. I will also tell them that they work for me and I work for all the people of the United States and answer only to them. They do not work for any special interest group or big business.

Be it known that if I ever have to send our young men and women into harms way I will not tie their hands, but order that they use any and all means to bring about the swift and complete end to the problem. I say to hell with political correctness and all the bull crap treaties that prevent nations from protecting them selves from aggression by anyone or any country. I do not believe the use of nuclear force is needed with the capabilities of our current military weaponry. If the United States is forced into military conflict it's actions will be deadly and final to the conclusion of said action. Our brave young men and women in the military need more than to be sent somewhere to protect our way of life and our freedoms, then told they can't do this or that and expect them to give their life in the performance of that duty. The United States is the greatest nation on the face of planet Earth and I will regain the respect of the rest of the world as in the days of old. I do not mean respect from fear but respect for greatness and leadership.

I will also remove the United States from the U. N. and order the Secretary of the Treasury to stop any and all payments to that defunct organization. We have supported and carried it on our backs far to long. We are not the worlds police force and do not need to be used as such by them.

I also plan to take care of our retired people by raising them minimum social security payment to $2,000.00 per retiree. The money saved from not supporting the U. N. and foreign aid payment will more than cover that cost.

I promise the America people all of these things and I will do them. I know how to do it and have the hair on my backside and the brass between my legs to do it. I also promise to return the government of the people by the people for the people back to the people.

My name is Preston E. Burris. I am a natural born American citizen. I was born in the State of Missouri. I have a legal copy of my birth certificate with the embossed state seal on it. In my heart and mind I am first an American and will always be an American. Secondly I am a former United States Marine. Once a Marine always a Marine, to which I am a life member in the Marine Corp League. The Marine Corp taught me some of the most important rules of life. One of which is, in order to be a good leader you must be a good follower. I believe in and support a strong United States military. I will not sell America down the river to any one or any foreign nation. I am a retired Sheet Metal worker. I have traveled all over the United States doing that occupation for 37 1/2 years before retirement. As a high school student in Missouri I attended school in a rural community. One of my teachers posted placards above the blackboard one of which I made something I live my life by. "Ignorance is excusable, to remain that way is not." These placards were provided to him by Ralston Purina Company in the 1950s.

I know the Constitution says that in order for a person to be eligible to run for President of the United States one must have resided in America for 14 years. I will challenge anyone who thinks it must be 14 years immediately prior to running for the office. Proof of my eligibility is that Thomas Jefferson was Ambassador to France for George Washington, and ran for election to be come the second President of the U. S. of A. He was not elected. He however was elected Vice President under John Adams. He ran again to become the third President of the U. S. of A. successfully. He had not lived in the U. S. for 14 years prior to his election as V.P. Another person who ran for and was elected not having lived in the U. S. for 14 years preceding his election was General Dwight D. Eisenhower. He was elected in 1952 after having served abroad in Europe in W. W. II until the defeat of Germany in 1945. He also served abroad leading the American forces in Korea in the early 1950s. There are two cases to prove my eligibility even though I have lived in China for the last 5 and 1/2 years. I am 70 years old and lived my whole life in America until I came to China to marry. Also if things go according to plan, if I am elected President the first lady will be a Chinese National not an American. She however will be a legal resident according to immigration laws.

I am serious about all of this and if you are serious about wanting your government back from the corruption that exist in our nations capitol please give me your vote. I want to give America back to the American public.

          #2.5 - Tue Apr 26, 2011 12:43 AM EDT

so, your platform is isolationism; breaking hundreds of years of trade agreements, treaties, and diplomatic relations; unilateral and arbitrary dismantling of political parties; turning our democratic republic into a military state that ignores the constitution and principles of the country it is sworn to protect; bashing the VA, which is one of the most successful health programs ever created anywhere; a flat tax advocate in spite of the fact that it would in effect raise taxes dramatically on the poor to the point of potentially costing them their homes and jobs; and among other things you don't seem to understand is that serving in the armed forces or as a diplomat in service of our great nation does not erase your residency no matter where you serve. (soldiers in Iraq right now are still residents of the US.) if you are stationed in china as a soldier or diplomat, you are fine to run, if not, you aren't. period.

also, congress does not work for the president. he is not their boss, does not set their pay, have the ability to hire and fire.

the vast majority of your post borders on sedition, and may be illegal for you to even suggest them. your absolute lack of respect for our constitution shows the contempt you have for this country and the people who actually live here, and for those who created it and tried to make it a better place.

while a couple of your premises are intriguing, the vast majority show a fundamental lack of understanding of the country and what we have gone through as a nation. i am not quite sure whether what you need is education, or therapy and medication, but i would suggest large doses of both to start.

sikchimp My statements are not sedition or anything close except in your mind. I am not an Isolationist. I did not say I would develop a policy that was used during a time in our past history where we did not deal with other countries either politically or in trade. I do not propose embargo's on foreign goods made by foreign companies only those on companies that are based in America that out source our jobs to a foreign country, such as Motorola, GE, and many other companies that have done the same.
As for the President being Congresses boss I will put it to you this way. The framers of the Constitution intended for the President to lead the entire country not just his office. They set it up so that the President put before them the legislation he wanted passed. Their job is to frame that legislation and send it to him for his signature. If he vetoed it, it would go back to Congress for the changes he wanted, or they if they could muster 2/3 of both houses of Congress over ride his veto. (That don't happen to often) As more proof that the framers intended for the President to have control over congress they made the Vice President the President Pro Tem of the Senate, thus showing the connection between the Presidents office and the Congress. The Supreme Court was established to primarily handle and eventually rule on the Constitutionality of a law passed by Congress and signed by the President. Their secondary job was to rule on legality of certain court case at law concerning such things as civil and human right or the fairness of an accused person tried in a court of law where improprieties are noted. Yes there is definitely a division between the three branches of Government, but there are set in place certain links between all there which makes the really act as one.

I also am still a resident of the United States of America. I still have an American passport. A Missouri drivers license. I draw my social security and pension from America. I am also a veteran and have my VA medical card that allows me treatment at any VA hospital. I will tell you one thing that you are completely wrong on that is that the VA medical system is not the best in the world. You must be part of the VA administration to make that assertion. The veterans of America's military know the shape of the VA medical system and complain about the lack of quality treatment all over the United States. The VA hospital in my home town is one of the best in the nation and it is not up to par. It took over three weeks to get back a biopsy of a suspected Melanoma Cancer from my back. If it had been a Melanoma I would probably been dead before the biopsy was complete. So don't tell me that the VA medical is the best medical system in the world, because it does not hold a candle to Private medical practices or hospitals in America.

I will also say anyone who votes for the same old insiders to go back to Washington is wasting his vote. You will get nothing from them except the same old run around more taxes, legislation that benefits special interest groups and big businesses. You also will be telling Congress and the President it is ok to send our young men and women off to war and not let them defend them selves so that they can get richer. All you will get is more taxes and more wars and nothing else except maybe to be shoved into a corner and forgotten about.

Mississippi is last in almost every key Ranking in the Country, which suits the Gov just fine! Leadership skills, please? Unless the U.S. Voters are looking to drop like a "Rocket" here and Globally, why would any sane Voter ever consider this guy? Actually it's a really bad sign when the Barbours's of the U.S. actually think they have even a slim chance of being elected President. Wake up America, it's time to turn this country around.

Barbour was another in the "flavor of the month" crowd (remember Bobby Jindal? Scott Brown?) that gets some folks excited, but then when you start looking a little closer there's something that just doesn't ring true.

Like it or not, the early favorite is Mitt Romney. And that's not going to play well with the evangelicals.

"Barbarian Barbour" should not be running for anything poltically. His rascist brand of Confederate politics is not needed. His social ideas go back to the Stone Age, and he has no concept of the cultural issues facing the nation. He should just stay home, and forget any poltical notions of running for the Presidency. The "Gross Odd People" (GOP), and the "Really Not Competent" (RNC) would love to have "Barbarian Barbar" run for the Presidency. Just think of all the good old times there would be at the Whites only House. Making moonshine in the Rose Garden, and shooting coons out on the lawn. It would be great to have the Confederate Flag flying over the white House. Then the whole idea of Civil Rights can be set back 60 years, or heck he would send it back even further. Just think of it America. He could sponsor KKK rallies on the White House lawn or make the Bithday of Jefferson Davis a national holiday. As for the Birther issue? Old "Barbarian Barbour" is right on it. He would try deport President Obama as fast as he could back to Kenya. No Thanks America! Progressives do not want this illiterate near the White House. What a joke! Getting Ready to vote America?? I hope so!

This has to be the most idotic piece of diatribe that I have ever read. You are really showing your ignorance about the man and the State. I don't know why you feel that you have to demean my State and our residents. Where on earth are you getting this from...........or are you still stuck in the 1960's? Forget the fact that the Democratic party is the reason that we are all in the shape that we are in -- and that you are positively blind to that fact. I am really embarrassed for you ............you are obviously not a well educated person even though you try to emulate that fact with your post.

I saw some Media guy on a show try to explain the reason for raising gas prices... and all I gather was the greediness of the spectulators.

There was no other logical reason...I mean there was so much BS in his explanation that I doubt he knew what the hell he meant.

Then he said we can expect $6.00 a gallon by summer? ...really???

No one in our GOVERNMENT can stop this??? seriously are we really going to let this happen.

Then his solution was - buy an electric car or stop driving. LOL really -what world do you rich folks live in...

Let see - how do we buy an electric car...when all of my money goes toward filing my gas tank and in the pockets of oil investors; better yet what if we just can't afford the freaking thing!!!!

Oh yea - stop driving... if i live 30 miles away...my kids need food and clothes, etc...or we want to go to the park instead of staying in the house...how in the hell do we do that.

The true solution is to take oil off the market and right NOW!!!...that's the only solutions to the fair and reasonable pricing of gas... if not...this will cause major problems for AMERICA...MAJOR -ARMAGANDON!!!

                        TRUTH- not CRAP

Thank you and GOD BLESS AMERICA

The reason that these guys can't give a rational coherent explanation of this "speculation" is that it is and imaginary financial transaction and they don't really know what it is or how it works because it's not real. Apparently they all jump in and bet money on how much something will cost some time in the future, and if they can get it to cost that much, somebody wins a lot of money.

Part of the high gas prices are people are not using as much gas. That has a lot to do with it.

Did America really want to be governed by a man whose leadership in Mississippi sustained the lowest per capita income in the nation, the lowest educational attainment, and the lowest quality of housing? Of course Barbour did absolutely nothing to improve the condition of the vast majority of Mississipians except lower taxes for his country club buddies. No, he is a typical Republican, destroying the lives of his people while waving the distracting flag of low taxes, Christianist divisiveness, and hatred for Blacks and immigrants.

Republicans are finding out that what Liberals have been saying for the last 3 years is true - it's a lot easier to criticize than to actually lead...

The biggest problem Haley had was trying to get his supporters to hang up their sheets and hoods. The KKK boys wanted to wear their formal attire to the GOP convention and burn a cross. People don't realize that Haley still has lots of friends in the KKK and he supports their way of thinking.

I wonder what happened to the idea that liberals were caring, compassionate people who only wanted what's best for people? Based on the posts I am reading on this page and others, it's pretty obvious that liberals are some of the most vicious, self absorbed people on the planet. Nothing is sacred with a liberal, they have no feeling, certainly no compassion and really are some of the most hateful people I have ever come across.

The poor are poorer than poor, their is no middle class. Its the rich against the very poor. Its all about big corp's and how they can screw you. Haley barbour is probably one of the few men who would actually do a good job. Yea, for sure we wouldn't want a man who actually had the ability to be a good President as President. We'd prefer a "community organizer" whose natural father was an African Moslem and who was reared until the age of 11 (these are called the formative years) in Indonesia as the adopted son of another Moslem. Yea, that's who we really want for President of the United States.

There will come a time when a strong conservative steps out, one that is rational and will not be tainted by the garbage going around now. But the real problem is President Obama will end up beating himself. If he cannot get gas prices lowered (when he came into office was $1.84 average) and the rising food costs he won't win. Because people vote there pocketbook come election time. If he puts boots on the ground in Libya or it drags out people will not vote for him. Right now our Government is neither for kaddafi nor against him and neither for the rebels nor against them, (official Government position) yet we gave the rebels billions of $$$ in aid. Now he is talking tough on Syria, if he elects a humanitarian mission there, it could doom his chances of reelection especially because his base will not be happy. Currently the Afghan war is costing more per month than Iraq. Google War costs and it shows Iraq costs down Afghan costs up and Afghan is now President Obama's war. Just went over 1 trillion from start to now. Does not include Libya.

President Obama's other problem for reelection will be his health care plan, (most polls still show majority of Americans are against it) he can demonize Ryan's plan but he is the guy who just put $6.7 billion back into medicare for the seniors because his plan cut the money out. Quite a political blunder since demonizing Ryan's plan for seniors yet his did cut senior money. The Supreme Court did not fast track the Health care Plan which is really not good for dems because it will now be a huge campaign issue, especially when the true costs come out. There are some good things in the plan as well as in the ryan plan but it does need to be redone by cooler heads in congress from both sides of the aisle. You can complain all you want about jobs unfortunately the republicans only control the house. In order to get any legislation through you would need the senate and the president to sign off. And as we all know neither party wants the other party to get credit for anything. Personally both parties are stupid.

Now I have been to 2 political rallies in the past year, I went with my daughter because of a college political science class, and found that the Tea party event in searchlight, nv. It was exciting and very peaceful with people of all walks and politics, the place was clean when the event was over and my daughter could not believe how nice it was since all she saw on the news was something entirely different. Now let us go to the Protest rally in Palm springs concerning the Koch Brothers (read their mission statement and while they do a lot positive community stuff, not sure I like their politics) My daughter almost got beat up by 2 adult guys wearing SEIU shirts for no reason other than she didn't like what they were saying, Talking of killing people, lynching, screaming at those who were not on their side. We spent about 20 minutes and left before we got attacked just because we were not acting like them. Now I prefer the tea party event as compared to the other. If you like what the others were doing it is your choice but we didn't and we also did not see any of that on tv for some reason.

Now I am sure I will be labeled derisively by the liberals for this but I have not disrespected anyone and I am not bat**it crazy as some would say. And nothing I have posted here is false. It is not a talking point just what I am seeing happen and my opinion. Everyone have a great day otherwise.

Not like I'm trying to give you some advice Joe, but there reaches a point of diminishing returns where your adherence to that "birther" dictum is going to damage your party's efforts because you are clinging to it like a concrete life preserver.

Is that all you got? Really?

It would be a far better way to go if you were to discuss issues, and try to convey why your failed ideology has a better approach to governing.

                            Sell me.

How does a party that destroyed our country and economy a few years ago deserve a 2nd chance? Remember why Obama and the Dems took power in the first place? I do. It was because the repubs sucked and tanked our nation.

Greg, just because a FEW want to know where Obama was born does not mean the ENTIRE party is a "birther".

And as for "destroyed our country", why don't you do a little RESEARCH? Oh wait, I forgot. The left doesn't do research, they just repeat the lies and accusations of Pelosi, Reid, and Obama.

Our recession happened because of CRA, Fannie and Freddie, Clinton, Rangel and Dodd, ALL of whom decided that every American has a "right" to own a home, even if they can't afford it.

The party that you are accusing of this recession we're in warned in 2003 that if something wasn't done about CRA, and Fannie and Freddie, there would be an economic collapse. But don't let the TRUTH get in the way of your trash hauling. Let's just forget about the legislation brought out by Republicans to regulate Fannie and Freddie that was blocked by Democrats. Let's just forget about the speech Bush made that said that Fannie and Freddie needed to be regulated. Let's just forget about the inspectors of Fannie and Freddie telling the House that Raines was cooking the books and being attacked for telling the TRUTH.

Let's even forget that Fannie and Freddie, who have cost us over 170 Billion taxpayer dollars so far, and have a 400 Billion taxpayer dollar "line of credit" from Geithner are STILL unregulated, ok?

Obama took power because of "making history", or weren't you paying attention to the liberal press as they pushed Obama over and over and over.

Obama has signed THREE budgets with over Trillion dollar deficits. Obama has borrowed almost a Trillion dollars to push a "stimulus" that even Democrats admit hasn't stimulated much of anything. Obama has pushed Billions and Billions of taxpayer dollars into teachers, public employee, and private unions ensuring their support in 2012. That would also be YOUR tax dollars by the way Greg.

And what do we have to show for all this wonderful stuff Greg?

Why we've had inflation at 9% or higher for OVER two years now. We have OVER 14 Trillion dollars in debt and another 8-10 Trillion coming if we NEVER pass another spending bill. We have a "health care" bill that not only will NOT save over 400 Billion dollars like Democrats said, but according to the CBO will cost AT LEAST 1.13 Trillion dollars. WE have a political party that STOLE 500 Billion dollars from MediCare, and the seniors that you on the left say you "care" for so much, to pay for ObamaCare. We have a dollar that is worth less and less and less as Democrats print hundreds of billions of dollars in basically phony money trying to pay for their bills. We have over $4 a gallon gas, and in some places already $5 a gallon. We have rising food prices, rising home energy costs, and a predicted inflation period that will rival Carter's inept handling of the economy.

Yep, Democrats are all over it Greg. They've got a handle on it all.

                            And there it is.

The USUAL ignorance and garbage from Feisty, who seems to do nothing except look for people to make STUPID comments about.

And as for the "waste, fraud, and abuse" you speak of Affinity, seeing as Democrats held power in the Congress for FOUR YEARS, why is it that it was ONLY through ObamaCare that it could be "cut". And could you tell us all exactly HOW MUCH of that "waste, fraud, and abuse" has actually been cut since the bill was signed into law? I've seen exactly ZERO reports about a single dime of "waste, fraud, and abuse" being saved so far.

How about the waste, fraud, and abuse of welfare Affinity? Oh wait, I forgot, welfare is a "social justice" program that is just full of honest, willing to work by can't find a job, Democrats that would NEVER rip off the system, generation after generation, right?

How about the waste, fraud, and abuse of the billions being spent on illegals Affinity? Oh wait, illegals are just poor hard working FEDERAL LAWBREAKERS that actually deserve a chance for citizenship before the people that are doing it legally, right? And so what if it costs billions of dollars that SHOULD be spent on the citizens of this country, the illegals deserve it, right? After all, they are a major Democrat voting block once Obama gets that amnesty through.

To make the STUPID claim that STEALING a half a trillion dollars from seniors is just to cut out the "waste, fraud, and abuse" is kind of naive, don't you think?

As to the sources of the economic crisis. Yes. You are right. The republican tenets of deregulation, "free" market capitalism, trickle up, deficit spending; among other things caused the crash. They were practiced by the greatest republican president of our time. The republican president who practiced more of these economic principles than any other before him.

The republican president I am discussing is none other than William Jefferson Clinton. He put these priciples in play more than any other by signing Gramm/Leach/Bliley, NAFTA, deregulating telecommunications, etc. But Clinton only knocked down the last domino. Repub presidents all the way back to Reagan started it rolling, and NAFTA was sculpted by Bush41.

Once all the protections of Glass-Stiegall were removed it was a recipe for disaster.

You act like Obama spent $14 trillion from Jan 20th, 2009 till now. Cheryl, be honest. Do you believe that? Eight-five percent of the $14 trillion is from 3 presidents: Reagan and the two Bushes. Two off-the-books wars, Medicare part B, tax amnesty for the rich and other unfunded goodies blew the deficits.

Obama spending? No $**t Sherlock. If my house is on fire I like the fire department spending a little more on water. Obama had a fire to put out too. Still does.

If your memory is at all good you would know that Obama was HANDED a mess when he came into office.

                            Remember? Good girl.

Republicanism is toxic to the middle class, and so are its disciples.

Ah the Dimocrat bloggers are sharpening their knives as one of many GOP potential candidates step aside. It is a process and at the end of the process, only one will be left standing to dethrone the prince of darkness.

And this too will come to pass..Somehow the dithercrats have been able to put the results of 2010 away into some dark compartment of their small minds. They ignore the people as the people are ignorant in their small dizzycrat minds. They congregate like pariah on MSN to attack all conservatives who venture into the waters. Then why do conservatives even bother attempting to communicate with these indoctrinated leftists? We come here to review your "talking points" and ascertain the level of your anger. The "noise level" is a rising which reflects the fear and frustration of the left. The louder the left the more trouble they are acknowledging that they are in. They know that when Obama has to defend his record the landslide will mount against his 2nd term. He is the Dimocrats modern day Jimmie Carter. He represented the last best chance for a Utopian socialist regime. And now they see it slipping through their hands like the sands of times. So many blue states have gone red since the glory days of 08. For the left, these are the darkest of times.

To personally attack someone is all you have?

You can't come up with ANYTHING that refutes anything the person said other than to just do the usual garbage from the left of attacking people on a personal level?

Are there ANY of you from the left on these blogs that can actually get into a REAL debate about anything? Is there ANY of you from the left that can actually INTELLIGENTLY speak in here?

Probably not, seeing as if you go back up through the posts, anyone that you disagree with gets attacked personally as you continue to deny that Obama is an inept, uncaring, speech reader, that has done absolutely NOTHING to improve this nation and through HIS and Democratic bills and legislation has taken us to the brink of NATIONAL bankruptcy.

Please elaborate the lie. You say she feared for her safety but I never said nor intimated that. Because in my post I said it was what I saw and my opinion, since it is my opinion how is it a lie. Read before you respond.

Feisty I fit in perfectly with others, how rich coming from you. Pull up any post I have made and see if I have been disrespectful to the president or any other poster. One exception and I apologized to her for that. You praise President Obama and ridicule anyone who doe not agree with you and we all wonder why Congress and the country are so divided.

I do try and see everyone's point of view, I may not always agree however I am not rude or belittle anyone for their opinion. It is their right as it is mine.

As of now, there is one Republican not running.

It really is not that complicated. Barbour knows that any republican candidate stands no chance in hell against Obama.

I wouldn't say that no Rep stands a chance against Obama. However, Barbour doesn't.

when the republicans started to skrew with medicare and S.S. they crossed the line.

I think maybe they forgot republican seniors get it too.I guess they thought only democrats collected it.
