McGreevey don't preach

Former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey, who resigned the office in 2004 after he revealed he was having an affair with a man, has been trying to become a priest in the Episcopal Church.

But the New York Post reports that despite receiving a master’s degree in divinity four years ago, the church is not exactly warm to his effort at redemption.

"It was not being gay but for being a jackass,” a source with the Episcopal Diocese of Newark told the Post, adding that McGreevey “didn't come out of the whole divorce looking good."

McGreevey was raised Catholic, was an altar boy, attended Catholic schools, and had described himself as a devout Catholic.

More from the story:

“Some leaders also were wary of McGreevey's sudden embrace of their faith after his scandal and feared the church was being used, the source added.

“After resigning as governor, ‘he was sort of looking for every angle to make a complete redo of his professional life,’ said another church source. ‘He ran to the church for some kind of cover, which isn't fully appropriate. Even if he's a good guy, he should wait five to 10 years to get over his issues.’” …

“Reached by telephone, McGreevey, citing the confidentiality of the priesthood process, declined to comment. … After the rejection, McGreevey, 53, told friends he was counseled that he ‘needs more seasoning,’ a source said.”

Not being a Catholic, this did not come as any surprise. From what I understand about Catholicism is you can't be gay and be a devout cathoilc as the church considers homosexuality as an abomination.

However, once you are ordained, you can abuse young boys and girls and even have relations with your cousin and the church will not divulge your name or give it up to authotities. Just move from one parish to another and when caught, pay the victim off.

Ira, I have a question? I couldn't get on this site and insult Jews or Muslims without getting collapsed. How come you can slur Catholics without any repercussions?

How about more drag outfits like the ones he wore starting out as an altar boy? Being a a devout Catholic doesn't not mean you can have same sex. I agree he is a jackass and hypocrite because devout Catholic practice heterosex and the clergy takes a vow of chasity.

He can still be a TV evangelist, and minister to poor white republican voters over a cable channel. Oh no maybe he can't, if he had just commited adultry he still be OK, but gay adultry may well be over the line.

Hey, he can start a minisrty for gay catholics or for that matter gays of any faith. They need a place to pray too. Damn...that may be a problem cause according to senior religious leaders God hates them and they're going straight to hell.

He can still be a TV evengelist, and his audience will still be mainly poor whites that vote republican. God will forgive you for being a democrat, but not for being gay.

He can become a televangelist for Scientology.

They'll accept anyone, so long as you come with money and/or celebrity.

Beverly, To me the best thing to do is either get DOMA in front of the SCOTUS or if you and the far left wing uber liberal dems are so against it repeal in from the Congress. Beverly I have been a registered dem since I turned 18 in 1971 but I have no use for the far left wing uber liberals that have hijacked the dem party. To me it is no longer the party of JFK and the others from the greatest generation. And to add to that I have no use for the far right wing of the repub party, I feel comfortable in the center. Also probaly because I served in the military for 24 years I don't believe in the nanny state the far left wing is trying to instill, I am a 57 year old man that make make my own decisions and my wife and I did a good job of raising our three children to be productive members of society.

            Domenico,

You neglected to mention former Gov. Jim McGreevey's party affiliation ...dont want to make MSNBC's fave Party look bad?

also, the posts in here are despicable , is this the dialogue what you wanted to promote with this random discussion of a disgraced ex-governor?

Hi Bob...hope you had a nice holiday.

The posts are not about politics, at least in the way we talk about them on this blog. It's about church politics and how the church hides pedophiles and hates gays. I'm not catholic but I do believe in a just and merciful God who is forgiving and loving. That is the antithesis of how the church treats gays.

What a dumb post. What does having Democratic or Republican political affiliation have to do with anything written? Ok, so he was a Democratic Gov...wow you're correct, that adds such a different twist to the story.

As written by another poster, the story is more about the political posturing of the Church, not the politics of governing. But in the end, slant it which ever way you need to pat yourself on the back and have a cold one with boys and tell your grand tale of how you really got the 'lefties' with that one.

Good to know your keen mind will be the bedrock of tomorrow's leaders.

Why delay it? They can vote yes or no and get on with it. They will cost the taxpayers millions while they are screwing around on their vacation. Why do we even need a group of these losers to make decisions which can effect the lives of millions of Americans because of their own political agendas? They should not be playing politics and need to get off their duffs and vote yes or no on this important issue.

This is why we need to stop electing them to serve a life term. Get back to work and do your job and make a decision now!.

Think about it! If we repealed, reversed, or eliminated every harmful unconstitutional law, Executive order, or bureaucratic department, we would restore the Republic of the United States and the United States Constitution to its original intent. Ain't gonna happen! Why? Inability to specifically identify our enemies, and no conviction.

You should have a good idea of what the Colonialists had to deal with? The only differences are their oppressors were across the Atlantic Ocean, ours are in our own backyard, and they have the only key to our arsenal.

But! We still have 3-D HDTV, Cable, computor games, cel phones, and the WPT. What more can this generation really ask for?
