The New York Times: "Democrats and Republicans are joining to oppose one of the most important features of President Obama’s new deficit reduction plan, a powerful independent board that could make sweeping cuts in the growth of Medicare spending."
The Times also writes up the president’s meeting yesterday on immigration. “With his re-election campaign launched this month and Latino communities growing increasingly frustrated with his immigration policies, Mr. Obama summoned more than 60 high-profile supporters of the stalled overhaul legislation to a strategy session, looking for ways to revive it. Among those attending were Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg of New York, an independent; Mayor Julian Castro of San Antonio, a Democrat; and former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California, a Republican.”
Big trade and business associations are not messing around when it comes to the debt ceiling. The Hill writes that "Groups such as the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors (NAW), the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) plan to step up their advocacy for a debt-limit increase as the deadline for congressional action draws closer."

In obamas first televised debate of 2012 I can hear it now, Moderator 'X' asks "Mr. president, what did you do about the American economy in 2011?".
Why 'X' I toured the nation selling my generous campaign contributers on how we were saving granny from the republicans.
How we were telling the poor and disabled that support for the republicans would only mean that they would tarnish the memory of LBJ and his "War on Poverty", after all didn't their grandmothers and mothers benifit mightily by our handouts?
Yes 'X' I friended many of our youth as well. We must encourage our youth to text and twitter on their cell phones and tablets during school hours. Learning math and science is so overated. Ryan's budget bill protects only the wealthiest Americans. He wants to give them $1Trillion in tax relief by defunding Education, Transportation, Science and Technology, and more.
Ryan's budget proposal would cut more than 2 million jobs.
@Backhouse: yes, but all those who become unemployed in their current industry could go to work in the funeral industry. I hear demand for morticians, hearse drivers and grave diggers will be steadily increasing as soon as the Republican party takes back the Senate and the White House.

So then I will understand the lack of response to the points I've actually made as this: liberals like crony-capitalism, liberals/progressives are opposed to town hall meetings actually taking place in a public forum like a TOWN HALL. And that liberal/progressives that are paid to blog on the MSNBC site also have no problem with GE paying $0 in taxes.

Air Traffic Controllers are overpaid federal employees that sleep on the job. I beleive those would be your friends.
scecil: its an Air Force base, the ATC's are airmen, hardly "overpaid federal employees." While I don't have any air traffic controllers as friends, I would gladly salute any airman. They do a difficult job, for low pay, and often very little thanks.
My line was a joke. I'm sure the controller involved heard about it enough from his commanding officer.

So it appears that Obama wants another czar to administer Medicare/Medicaid. It is beginning to look like another U.S.S.R. with all of the centralized planning being controlled by the executive branch.
One thing about czars. They do not need to be elected. That creates real opportunity to put one's cronies into positions of great influence and power.

Maybe, just maybe, they are smart enough to have some "Town Hall' meetings THIS summer where the participants aren't yell at and told to sit down and shut up. Last Summer the raging TP/GOP crowd imposed their agenda on everyone in attendance and interrupted anyone making sense to insert FOX talking falsehood points as relevent to the HCR debate.
On line the President can listen and answer his audience with some degree of decorum, facts and detailed plans as they evolve toward solution. Say what he believes in and would back. Without the screaming, innuendo and constant drumbeat of OBAMA unfit to serve, ineligle to serve or serving ONLY his constituency. "The TRUTH will out." as Shakespear said. And lies told will be exposed.

Those crazy Town Hall meetings were hard to watch. One woman, her face twisted into tears crying "I want my country back!" because she didn't like the man we elected President. She's probably thinking now "hey! he saved our jobs! Maybe I shouldn't have made a fool out of myself!"
