Supporters take photos of President Obama at a fundraising kickoff event at Navy Pier in Chicago last night. (AP)
The Chicago Tribune covers the president’s fundraisers in his hometown last night. “Speaking in Navy Pier's Grand Ballroom before an estimated 2,300 people who paid $100 to $250 to attend, Obama challenged the crowd to come together for him as they did four years ago. ‘Ordinary folks can do extraordinary things. That's what this campaign is about,’ Obama said at the event, which also featured Bulls all-star point guard and South Side native Derrick Rose, forward Joakim Noah and a former star from the team's championship years, B.J. Armstrong. The president later donned a Bulls cap.”
Politico adds, "The campaign’s main message in these early days is that supporters need to generate the opening wave of grassroots excitement, without relying on the president to fire up supporters personally, as he was able to do in 2008. 'Over the next three months, six months, nine months, I’m going to be a little preoccupied,' he told donors at the first of three Chicago fundraisers. 'I’m not going to see all of you as often I’d like. It means that I’m not going to be able to make that phone call to you and thank you even though my gratitude is profound.'"
President Obama admitted on ABC yesterday that he made a “political vote” when he voted against the debt-ceiling being raised in 2006. “That was just an example of a new Senator, you know, making what is a political vote, as opposed to doing what was important for the country. And I’m the first one to acknowledge it,” he said per Roll Call.
“Hispanics now outnumber African-Americans for the first time in most US metropolitan areas, shifting the political and racial dynamics in cities once dominated by whites and blacks,” the AP reports from the latest Census data released this week.

Will Trump trump Romney?
I've noticed that ever since "The Donald" started spouting that "birther" nonsense, his poll numbers have increased. So I have to ask, "How can it be that Trump is gaining ground among Tea Partiers?" Evidently Tea Partiers like him; he certainly is rich. Or is it more plausible that the GOP/TP really doesn't like Romney?
The fact is that Romney cannot back down on the health care reform law that he signed when he was the Massachusetts governor. To do so would be the ultimate flip-flop. He can't say, "I was for it, I signed it into law, and now I was wrong." That just is not going to happen. Romney's strategy has to be that the conservatives will split their vote between, Bachmann, Huckabee, Pawlenty, Barbour, Gingrich, and oh yes, Palin. Therefore, Mitt wins by default.
But can Trump trump Romney? I don't think so. "The Donald" is doing well because many conservatives know that the existing stable of candidates doesn't have a chance when running against President Obama. They are still looking for a standard bearer and when Trump sounds like a "birther" the Tea Party is giving him some thought.
The problem for the Tea Party is that they cannot control how everyday Republicans will vote. When the primaries begin, all candidates will get some votes; and in fact the conservative vote will be fractured. Just what Romney hopes will happen.
I suspect "The Donald" will not even run. He cannot stand to see himself lose…and he will lose. For Donald Trump, playing politics is just that: a game of playing politics.
I can't believe I got my days confused. I wanted to hang out with crowds welcoming our President home
Next year you can keep that piece of crap there. Chicago deserves a thief like him
$250 a head just to attend. That would be a waste of $250. You could send that money to Washington to help with Obama's deficit spending.
Can't wait for the campaign to begin in earnest. There is so much ammunition that any Republican candidate can use against Obama. And that's just after two wasted years. The story gets better with the passage of more time. More chance for Obama blunders. More unemployment, higher taxes, out of control spending, skyrocketing gas prices. the best is yet to come.
Think Obama's hair is turning gray now?? Just wait till the stress of being called on all his B.S. hits the airwaves every day for months.
A Chevy Volt for every Obama Vote! 2012!!
Bravo! Just imagine the clueless moonbats in the Yugo, er, Volt, caught on the Interstate, after 30 miles the battery dies...and no charging station...
While on a business trip Bob, I received an electric car as my rental. OK, I would be traveling in a major city, so I thouht I could receive an accurate assessment for myself. Rain started, traffic was heavy, and the darn thing only did receive about 40 miles until the rental car agency came to pick me up. They forgot to inform me NOT to turn on the heat, turn on the wipers or I may not make it from the airport into the city.
Never did. And someone would pay over $40K for an electric car, spend an increased electric bill to keep it charged while only being able to go 50 miles?
You have to be a libbie to enjoy this.
Support our President
I appreciate the way that the president communicates in a clear, earnest manner. He has earned my trust.
President Obama 2012.
It will happen. And the righties know it. That is what brings out the nastiness on here each and every day. Ain't that right, 'openmind'?
California Tom,
Why do you want four more years of indecision Tom?
I support the President and his administration. My God, if George Bush could get re-elected with his track record, then certainly President Obama deserves a second term.
You lazy loons! Can you imagine the price of food and gasoline if this loon gets a second term???
Now - losers all of you, Go and get your 'No Blood for Oil' banners! Lybia is being bombed! Why?
Why did we tea baggers crush you in 2010? As you lazy pot smokers sleep we're getting larger in numbers... - a huge landslide in 2012
"Why did we tea baggers crush you in 2010? "
For all of those of you that keep asking where the 'teabagger' lable comes from, please see above....
Can you imagine them if the President doesn't get a second term?
Trump in 2012 or any one else .Mickey mouse would be better than Obama.
Yea, in Fantasyland!
The 2012 elections are going to be like 2008, with a very large record group of Democrat Progressives voting.
So, this will be a great opportunity to get rid of the Tea baggers –Republicans in office.
People have to remember that only 37% of the eligible voters voted in 2010 and that is not going to happen in 2012.
And they know it, Job1. And that is what makes 'em so charming to read on these posts.
Amen
Drive by,
You are almost as humorous as the keyboard queens. Keep the laughs coming.
A Chevy Volt for every Obama Vote! 2012!!
Shhh, don't say that!
Doles,
Do you actually believe I would agree with that Obama campaign slogan? But some potential Obama voters are not on this site, so why not have fun? Some though would actually believe that statement if they saw it.
Looking forward to reelect President Obama to 4 more years!! I will do what I can to defeat HATE!! Openmind(aka Closedmind) just helped make another donation!!
They don't take WIC you will have to put down that pot your smoking and spend the money on this piece of crap that calls himself president
Dear OpenMind,
Just because someone supports the President Obama does not mean they are on welfare. That was a low class comment. BTW, he IS the President!!!!!
Obama/Biden 2012
who ever wrote about lazy loons is pretty illiterate! commodity market regulations were dropped by GW and sen grahmn. it use to be if you bought oil you had to take delivery, now you only need to speculate on prices(gamble) and not take delivery. the difference gas should be 1.50/gal under regulations not $4.
PLEASE DO YOUR HOMEWORK!
Reported this morning by CBS news....
In audio relayed by the network, the president can be heard addressing unsuccessful Republican maneuvering to roll back portions of health care reform, as well as restrict Planned Parenthood from receiving federal funding, in reaching an agreement.
"I said, 'You want to repeal health care?'" Obama revealed at the private event. "Go at it. We'll have that debate. You're not going to be able to do that by nickel-and-diming me in the budget. You think we're stupid?'"
Ultimately, the resolutions pushed by Republicans targeting what may be the president's most significant legislative accomplishment to date and the women's health service provider failed to advance with the larger budget deal.
"Put it in a separate bill," the president said he told House Speaker John Boehner and members of his staff. "We'll call it up. And if you think you can overturn my veto, try it. But don't try to sneak this through."
GO MR. PRESIDENT!!!
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
VermontGirl I love it. Thanks
A CHEVY VOLT FOR EVERY OBAMA VOTE!
Get in line for yours Vermont Girl. You also get a glass of the Obama kool-aid with each Volt, and an autographed copy of the Koch Bros latest book on how to influence government, with a page authored by George Soros.
Beats that hairpiece Trump has promised voters.
I see some tea partiers on this site have lost their long term memories. More specific John M - 2860409.
The thought of you claiming President Obama has or had something to do with the increase in gas or food or anything similar -shows how ignorant and uninformed the tea partiers are...
If you do a bit or reading and learn the past history of our governmental processes - you would clearly see with a bit of intellilect. That it was the Bush administration that changed the Wall Steet policies for which allows spectulators and banks to trade commodoties (i.e oil, gas) on the market at will.
It was the Bush adminstration that started TWO unpaid for wars -it was the GOP majority that rise the credit limits 18 times under the Bush adminstration.
It is still the GOP/TP members that are refusing to reverse said policies - for which the wall streeters continue to used to wand in wind fall profits at the expense of suffering everyday Americans.
See Teabagger - try TRUTH - not CRAP
and maybe you can set your IQ level about idiot and be informed.
Thank you and GOD BLESS AMERICA
