Trump: 'I have a great relationship with the blacks'

As Politico's Ben Smith has pointed out, some prominent African Americans aren't exactly fans of Donald Trump’s questions about President Obama’s citizenship.

And African Americans, one of us wrote earlier this week, happen to be one of the  few voting blocs with a solid net-positive view of the real estate mogul. According to a February NBC/WSJ poll, 27 percent of black respondents have a favorable opinion of Trump, while 22 percent take a negative view. (Compare that to 26% positive/ 29% negative overall.)

That may be true, but today on the Fred Dicker radio show, Trump boasted of his relationship with the black community in a particularly, well, blunt way.

"I have a great relationship with the blacks,” Trump said. “I've always had a great relationship with the blacks.”

Referring to poll numbers that show enduringly high support for President Barack Obama among black voters, Trump pointed to race as a reason that he – like Hillary Clinton before him– would be unable to capture more African-American support.

“Unfortunately, it seems that, you know, the numbers you cite are very, very frightening numbers," he said.

Trump is expected to make a decision on a presidential run by June.

Per a written statement, "On the May 22nd Season Finale of Celebrity Apprentice, Mr. Trump may announce the time and place of a press conference at which time he will make a statement as to whether or not he will run for President of the United States."

Trump is no worse than Obama. Certainly no worse than the rest of the lowlife's running other countries.

At least Trump can think for himself. I for one couldn't care less who he has bribed, coerced, or otherwise bought in order to enrich his own life. The man is a genius!

Anyone with that much dough, and a smokin' hot wife, all while sporting that hairdo like his? He has something between his ears.

I am laughing at the last line that he will announce whether or not he runs for president at the Apprentice finale. He is a brilliant marketer and a huge egomaniac but the only interest he ever looks out for is his own! If you vote for that you must have a lot of self-hatred. If Trump, Michelle Bachmann and Sarah Palin ran it would make for interesting television (imagine the debates!) and that's about all! The difference between a serious, cool, calm, collective, thoughtful and reflective President Obama and these clowns is so striking it's absurd! YIKES for the GOP in 2012!

I am not a Republican and I voted for your cool, calm, collective, thoughtful and reflective President. The difference between you and I is I am a hard working middle income United States of America lover, and he will never get my vote again. I no longer will support any President that has blatantly lied and people still like this yahoo. He is so freaking far over his head it isn't funny, he hasn't done a darn thing except make people doubt this Country. Since when are you considered rich when you make $250,000.00 a year or more. I will basically take my hard earned dollars and ship it out of this country so none of you Democratic entitlement lovers get it anymore. Get a job and stop living off the public and when you start making a living and want to start keeping some of it, come over to the hard working, rational side, we'd love to have you. Anybody watch the speech? It didn't sound like to many did, everybody is sick and tired of listening to and being around stupid people.

He can't announce that he is running while he has a show on a network. So he is waiting untill it is over. Gives his show a boost too. How is that bad? He had a issue, he delt with it, and it works out better for him in the long run. I know you probably prefer smoke and mirrors and BS...but some people can do what they say they're gonna do. Read one of his books.

Not Whining, it sure sounds like you are.

$250,000 is rich when you compare that to the average American income of $43,000 per year. It is also rich compared to the 43.6 MILLION Americans living below the poverty line. Do you kow what the US considers the poverty line? for a family of 4 it is $22,000.

As I said compared to the figures that i mentioned $250,000 a year is rich.

I am also a hard working American, the difference here is I understand that when the poor and middle class prosper the entire country prospers. If you notice it doesn't work the other way around. The last decade the rich have gotten richer and the rest of Americans have gotten poorer.

          #86.3 - Thu Apr 14, 2011 3:25 PM EDT

most "rich" people making over $250,000 per year do so because they own their own business. Just because the business makes over $250k per year dosn't mean the person makes that kind of money. In fact many of those people don't even take a salary.

Maybe if Obama ever held a position other than professor/community organizer, he might know what that means.

Over 51% of registered Republicans do not think that President Obama was born in the US despite all the actual evidence to the contrary. Trump is tapping in to that "base" of people whose alternate universe is confined to what they hear on Fox news and from the far right. A majority of the 51% believe he is a Muslim. It's smart marketing for now but what happens when his "investigators" come back and he has to announce they found nothing. Where's his credibility then. Imagine, over 45 years ago a hospital in Hawai printed a birth notice in 2 newspapers knowing that this half black/half white baby was going to grow up top be the POTU when even the notiion of a black man running or being elected President was inconceivable. Pure and simple nonsense.

Being US born was advantageous back then.

                  What IS the actual evidence?

                  Who was the obstetrician?

                  Where are the witnesses?

What was the name of the hospital?

Where is the actual, signed by the doctor, birth certificate?

                  And why bring up race?

Do you really want to know?

All the documents are in the State's birth record book and has been verified by Linda Lingle, former Republican governor of Hawaii, and a ton of other people.

You obviously know nothing about the man. Donald Trump is a genius at what he does. He is not a fan of politcal BS, and deals with the problem at hand. It's amazing that throughout history, the smartest people are usually lacking in the personality department, but no one recognizes that. They're more concerned with the usual popularity contest. I couldn't care less if our President is clever in the sense that he sounds good blowin the hot air around or looks great on tv. How about someone who works, who has real life experience, who has some real ideas about how we should be running this country.

You obviously know even less about Trump. He's had 11 bankruptcies wherein many of his investors lost money while he made a ton.

So the guy can make money even in a bankruptcy! Hows you're share of Obamas spending stackin up?

Don't mind your kids or grandkids payin for it? Figures...just pass the buck. He has never filed for personal bankruptcy. They were all corporations and sometimes businesses go under. Sometimes they go under on purpose to offset gains in another area of investment. One thing a business is not for...is to create jobs for someone else. The jobs created from a business are for the benefit of the business and the people that created it. When the job is gone it's gone. And in this free country we invest at our own risk. He makes his own way and has made money for a lot of people.

Would you agree that it is easier to stay rich when inheriting it than it is to start at the ground up? To say he makes his own way is quite disengenuous.

Pippo: Absolutely, to answer your question. Let's see Obama now owes China billions and has nothing to show for it and has no clue how to pay it back other than to raise taxes on those already carrying half the country on our backs. But if Trump, like you say can make money while his investors are losing money; I'm all for it. Let the U.S. make billions while our investor, China loses money. Sounds like a heck of a plan to me. Maybe President Zippie should call him for advice.

Let's see, Trump graduated wiht his MBA from one of the best business schools in the world, Wharton.

Trump has real life experience in starting and running numerous entities.

He has a ton of experience negotiating with others worldwide.

He has met and is well respected by numerous international leaders.

                                      He is well spoken.

He loves the USA and will negotiate ONLY IF it's in our best interest.

He has donated millions to the disadvantaged for years.

He will tell it like it is and not do what our current POTUS joke does, which is tell whoever is listening what he thinks they want to hear.

He did not just come out of college, work as a community organizer, play in the Senate part-time and get elected for the sole reason of his being black. (And please don't start. That is the ONLY reason Obama got elected)

We have been fooled several times in the past. No one thought an actor would make a good President; and for the most part Reagan was a good President.

Many thought Obama was going to be our savior; well that hasn't transpired.

He won't have our military in places that do not benefit the U.S. directly. Only if we have a serious interest in a country or there is a threat will he play with our troops.

                                      He's got my vote.

Yeah....just the casinos. Are you in the gaming industry? Or have you had your head in the sand for the last four years? Foxwoods is the largest casino on earth, they pay nothoing in taxes, and they are drowning! You don't see where people just don't have throw away money any more? There is not one casino that is doing well right now or has done well in at least three years.

I honestly don't know why I bother....trying to fix the world one idiot at a time I guess : )

Yes it is true that companies file bankruptcy but a good business man would not run their companies to that point.

Wow, you guys are really reaching, I know it's hard. Name one real estate developer that did not experience significant tenant loss and property devaluation at various times; especially from 2006-2009. All casinos are struggling right now. But i guess that just Trumps fault.

I love Tony's comment above: "His Casinos in Atlantic City lose millions, and spends money foolishly until he can't pay it back, then declares bankruptcy" Kind of sounds like our current President doesn't it?

At least Trump has the brains, guts and business acumen to keep rising above and climbing to the top. I wouldn't mind a President with those same attributes.

A company or two may have filed Chapter 11, reorganization bankruptcy due to economic reasons. Which is why they created those bankruptcy laws for companies to begin with. His companies have never filed a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Hopefully you do know that a Chapter 11 allows an entity to restructure debts and continue to operate until solvent again. If that's what you're talking about, then he would be perfect for figuring out how to get our bankrupt country prosperous once again. Thanks for helping prove my points.

Obama claims that he was born in Hawaii but so far is unable or unwilling to offer any deffinitive proof of his claim. Like Donald Trump I am begining to think that one of these Kenyan's is lying.

He's already spewing the party line against President Obama. Donald Trump was born into opulence. His early successes led to business bankruptcy and near personal bankruptcy but by manipulation of assets maneuvering his position he's smelling like a rose. His forays into other areas forced bankruptcy again which proves he know how to extend himself. He has no substance along the lines of Palin and Bachmann. He's been in trouble with the Securities & Exchange Commission. His worth is put at 2.7 Billion. Three times married and an eye for women he pushes for what he doesn't own. Not legal tender for the presidency. Period.

Mr. Trump cannot protray himself as a "birth-er" and then embrace his relationships with blacks. When we hear "birth-er" we (blacks) hear exclusion. As in "Pres. Obama is not one of us". Then Mr. Trump says that he is attempting to prove that "Pres. Obama is not one of us". African Americans are dismayed that Trump would use the "birth-er" movement, to further his aspirations for political office. There is a saying in black America, "You will always be one of the fellows, but never one of the boys". When we hear "birth er" we hear "never one of the boys". Plus it reinforces that notion that "we don't mind you participating, but when it comes to leadership and planning, we don't want you around". If Mr. Trump had just talked about the economy we would have understood. We truly respect Mr. Trump's business expertise. He has few equals in the business world. This "birth-er" B/S, is beneath him. We thought Mr. Trump was a bigger person than that. Guess African Americans were wrong. By the way, I saw Mr. Trump's birth certificate on television. Doesn't look like the one I have here for myself. Where are the foot prints and embossed seal on the birth certificate?
