Subscribe to RSSAs Politico's Ben Smith has pointed out, some prominent African Americans aren't exactly fans of Donald Trump’s questions about President Obama’s citizenship.
And African Americans, one of us wrote earlier this week, happen to be one of the few voting blocs with a solid net-positive view of the real estate mogul. According to a February NBC/WSJ poll, 27 percent of black respondents have a favorable opinion of Trump, while 22 percent take a negative view. (Compare that to 26% positive/ 29% negative overall.)
That may be true, but today on the Fred Dicker radio show, Trump boasted of his relationship with the black community in a particularly, well, blunt way.
"I have a great relationship with the blacks,” Trump said. “I've always had a great relationship with the blacks.”
Referring to poll numbers that show enduringly high support for President Barack Obama among black voters, Trump pointed to race as a reason that he – like Hillary Clinton before him– would be unable to capture more African-American support.
“Unfortunately, it seems that, you know, the numbers you cite are very, very frightening numbers," he said.
Trump is expected to make a decision on a presidential run by June.
Per a written statement, "On the May 22nd Season Finale of Celebrity Apprentice, Mr. Trump may announce the time and place of a press conference at which time he will make a statement as to whether or not he will run for President of the United States."

I have heard a million times people referring to white people as "whites" with absolutely no issue being made of it. Why is it an issue for people to refer to black people as "blacks"? Also...I take offense to American "blacks" and "whites" refering to black-Americans as "African-American". American-blacks are so far removed from Africa they have no business using that title. I am white and had African grandparents. I am more "African-American" than they are and I choose to be refered to as "American".
Well, "the blacks," while facing the adversity of post-slavery segregation and the sub-suplemented step-by-step program we call affirmative action we are using to even out the playing field, didn't need the addition of a Gatsby-age reference to a minority group that is as most of NYC in constant reconstruction.
I'm sure he filed for Bankrupcy a few years back and probably felt in solidarity making this comment or just had the bias part of his head crammed up the richer part of his ass.

And since you are such an expert, you brought up the birther card, regardless of where Obama was born (Hawaii is fine with me) the fact is that Obama has nothing to do with Black America. He was born on an island in the middle of the Pacific. His father was Kenyan. He was raised on that island and Indonesia, sent back to be raised by his white grandparents, went to private prep schools and never stepped foot on the continental United States until he went to a liberal college in California. He then was educated with the elites of Columbia and Harvard.
What does the above have to do with the Civil War?
His parents never suffered the same prejudice as other black Americans, he never sat a segregated lunch counter, was descended from slaves on and on. What does he know about black life in America except what white radicals like Bill Ayers and Reverand Wright have told him? Heck .... the dude wears "mom" jeans and throws a baseball like a girl.

After re-reading my first comment I can see now that it did not come across as intended. I was referring to anyone that expects to be addressed differently however when it is done they become the PC police and come in and call foul. Trump is playing a very well-orchestrated plan to emphasize the view of President Obama as "the other."
Even this insane remark is part of that plan. By clucking his tongue and shaking his head regretfully over the polls about African-American support for him, he makes the point that the President indeed draws a huge majority Black vote. he emphasizes the "other" - and again rubs salt in the tender wounded skin of racists.
The entire campaign is a long-range effort to as much as possible de-legitimize President Obama, and at least remind some people of their resentments and suspicions. The effort is aimed at expanding a base of voters who will not accept the President even if he walked on water, raised the dead, and couldn't seem to get rid of a halo about him. (I do NOT think any of those things about the President, BTW, or that he is some sort of "Messiah," a slur the ultra-right often trots out.)
The ONLY hope that the GOP has next year of retaining many Tea Party members and other elected representative given the party's abysmal performance in the opinion polls, is to at least bulk up some of that dedicated base of Obama-haters. The Donald has taken on the role of spokesperson for this slimy and disreputable campaign strategy.

My take is that it is not that he used the term blacks, but that he used the term "the blacks". If he had just said "blacks, that implies a subset of the whole (people). Using the term "the blacks" implies separation or "other". The same thing applies when talking about "gays" or "the gays". The fact that he refers to himself as "the Donald" is just a reiteration of the same principle. He uses the term "the Donald" to separate himself from all the other Donalds. It evokes a much more separating response.

It's really a shame that it's come to this. A political freak show with The Donald as ringmaster. The guy's starting to resemble Charlie Sheen in his absurdity and in the words of John McEnroe "YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!!!" I'm actually starting to feel a little bit sorry for the Repubs as they can't seem to find a candidate with any real focus. They may start with good intentions, then it's whooosh - off on the birther issue they go and the credibility gets flushed down the toilet. But then again, it's really the TP'ers that push that button, and we all know that any Republican that doesn't kiss their behinds isn't going to get any kind of support. And I retract that earlier statement. I don't feel a bit sorry for them. They've laid out their agenda, and as expected, the little guy gets it right in the can. Another reason racism has lost again. Trumps question was about Obama's eligibility for the office of President under the constitution not a attack against blacks. But because the liberals today want to paint anyone who does not believe as they do or disagree with the president as being a racist, being called a racist is beginning to mean nothing more then you disagree with the majority of black and liberal American thought.
I personally am not questioning the President's birth, I have a very hard time believing that he would be able to pull off such a feat, but if he did then he would need to be removed. Not because of the fact that he is a liberal or black or for any other reason then he broke the law by running for office without meeting the requirements of the office.
Now, if you want it changed then it should be voted as such, but not done because it may hurt someones sense of political correctness or it could cause mass riots. The constitution needs to either be upheld or done away altogether and have us go into a state of anarchy.
As a person that has had his people persecuted over the centuries for their race (I am part Hebrew), and my wife is Asian, so we live in a multi-cultural house. For the sake of my son I hope to God that we have not killed off the stigma of being called a racist because people have turned to use it for political benefit.

woodwz123, the problem is not the fact that he referred to Americans with African ancestry as "black" (I'm white and I've done that many times). The problem is that the phrase "the blacks" is virtually always used in the context of a racist statement. It's certainly possible that he didn't mean it in that way but, at the very least, it shows a certain cultural cluelessness that would be very unfortunate in a president of the United States.

It may be, but for someone who wants to be President of all Americans, it's important to think twice before they say something that could be disrepectful to a lot of people. Hypersensitivity or not, this is not how a President should talk.
