There has been plenty of discussion and intrigue about former Republican Governors Association executive director Nick Ayers' decision to be Tim Pawlenty's presidential campaign manager -- instead of work for Ayers' old RGA boss, Haley Barbour.
In a lengthy email to Politico's Ben Smith, Ayers explains his decision. Here's part of the email (as Smith observes, it comes off a bit like Ayers is the one running for president.) *** Correction *** Ayers' email was to friends and associates, and Smith got his hands on a copy.
These factors and others had virtually ruled out my engagement into a presidential campaign. It was going to be much easier to sit on the sidelines in Georgia, enjoy the fruits of the private sector, and cheer on all of my friends as they jostled for the Republican nomination for president. That path would have been politically safe, financially sound, and personally very comforting. But it was not the right one.
Over the past six months, I have prayed deeply about my purpose in life and how best to utilize the talents God has given me. I wanted my decision to be wholly about how best to serve Him, not what was most politically or financially expedient for my family and me. As He often does in walks of faith, He has called me to a higher purpose. I believe that our Nation is truly on the wrong path. We need a new direction that is positive and hopeful. Simply said, we need new leadership. I believe that Governor Pawlenty is best positioned to provide that leadership. Therefore, I am pleased today to join Governor and Mrs. Pawlenty in their pursuit of the presidency.
My decision does not mean I think less of Haley Barbour, Jon Huntsman, Mitch Daniels or Newt Gingrich should they decide to run, because I do not. I know them all personally and believe in their intellect, capabilities, and principles.

Mark writes an article and fiesty doesn't comment, or bev?
Bet domenicco would have gotten more respect.
Rot Roh. He should have never said he Prayed. That will get the Left going....
So, now that makes three candidates whose side God is on: Huckabee, that judge guy from Texas, and Pawlenty.
The lord thy God is surely a fickle God.
and Bam................ there you have it..
LoL Indeed. I finally said something you agreed with. I'll be there in a minute to collect my prize.
But what about Palin?
Anna..
I would think the Crazy man in the White House that Prays to God and Expects an Answer would be the person that you would be Questioning. I mean afterall If he is Prayer he expects an Answer .. He must believe that god Answered him about Libya because he Acted on going into Libya.
Wouldn't you agree.
LoL If I did, I would probably be the only one who does.
Must be something in the White House water, though. Seems to me the last guy did that same thing.
OH. Yes. but seems that you Dont like it when people from the Otherside Pray to God. but Nothing about the People that Pray from Your side. Perhaps you are a Hypocrit... ???
"...The lord thy God is surely a fickle God."
Boy, you can say that agian. Poor people in Mapleton Iowa had their town destroyed by a mile-wide tornado over the weekend. Some guy from there was on the news saying 'someone was surely looking out for us".
Mmmm Hmmmm. Somone who sent 'em a tordnado that totaled their community in the first place.
"BAM", Huh, Steve?
@ Steve -- LoL Try harder. If I had a nickel for everytime someone out here called me a hypocrite, I could retire.
@ dbo -- Way too easy. The Devil sent the tornado. God was busy watching the Masters.
No one Died. Huh Drive By....
People are free to Believe that they wish. I allow them that and dont make fun of them or deride them for Believing what they with The problem i have is with People like YOU and Anna that Call out Conservatives that Pray to God. but give INCOMPETANTS like Obama who prays a Pass. We get it you guys are just here to BAsh Conservatives
And really What is Obama Praying for when he Prays for the People of Japan? I get so confused by you liberals. No back bone to stand up the Man in the White House when he Prays. We get it..
" We get it you guys are just here to BAsh Conservatives"
And NO ONE is just here to BAsh Liberals, of course. Or, OUR president of these United States.
No matter what the President says or does, these Obama Haters are there to bash him.
Poor God! He has an even worse job with more conflicting opinions and demands that the President!
I would have sooner believed he was hearing from God if he'd told him to volunteer for Obama. Not that God favors the Democrats, but, in my experience, you know it's a message from God if it's something you wouldn't have thought of doing yourself.
Let's see if I can get the Bible thumbers going. Did Ayers see the image of T-Paw on a piece of toast? Can someone show me where in the Bible Jesus instructed/preached on how to govern the Samaritans? And please reconcile the Book of Samuel where it seems pretty clear that God's message is that man's attempts to govern will generally end in failure. I would find this far more believable the day someone on the Right has a vision that God tells him to raise taxes. Seems to me, that wealth was seldom applauded in either the Old or New Testament. And as between Ayers and St. Francis of Assisi - I'm going to place the bet that Francis had the true answer to his prayers.
You mean Bible Thumpers like Obama. I mean after all he does concider himself a Christian and admits to Praying.. this must mean that you have dont think to highly of Obama....
I don't believe he's reported any direct communication from God or that he's prayed for the answer to the correct upper tax bracket.
He did howerver Pray. When you Pray you expect your Prayer to Be Answered If you dont Whats the Good in Praying?
He must believe that his Prayers have been Answered because he doens't say it doen'st mean he doesn't believe it.. some people just have Stronger Faith.. Either that or Obama Praying is just a Smoke Screen for the Democrat Christians that he hopes to vote for him?
I just had an answer from God from my prayer. Wait, his voice said. Don't listen to people name Steve and Tea baggers.
job1, I believe that what you heard is what the bible calls the devil whispering sweet nothings into your ears
It is a little frightening to read comments about "what God told me to do". Didn't that used to be how they determined if you were crazy or not?
Yea. it does actually say alot about Obama. since he prays alot. He expect an answer from God and obviously gets them. so i understand what you mean about Crazy........
Now it is used as a test for the republican primaries. Personally I am sick of politics from preachers, and preaching from politicians. I think hell will be chock full of "good Christians" who don't give a damn about the sick and the poor. The Catholic Church and others should lose their tax exempt status, because they are waist deep in politics. Between the Catholic Church protecting sexual predators, and telling people how they should vote (literally a priest during mass preached about who you should vote for) I have had it with the Catholic Church. We are supposed to have separation from church and state, the founding fathers were very keen on this. I do not want political advice from the pastor of St. Pedophilia.
Do you think the Islam/muslim Religions should lose their Tax Expempt status too? r could all you think of was . Catholic and Christian? Or are you for the Muslims preaching for Shiria Law in this country.. And I mean really. we Know that Islam is against Homosexuality and they should be Killed Women should cover their Faces and can't talk to any Man.. Girls shouldnt be able to go to School. Why is it you liberals always only seem to Rail AGaisnt Christianity. Nothing against ISLAM?
....You CANNOT pettition the Lord, for March bracket picks!!
(sorry, Jim Morrison0- RIP)
I have never been to a Muslim church and I'm sure Fox does not have a Muslim political contributor, but they do have a Catholic priest who does political commentary not theological commentary. I pick on the Catholic Church because I was born and raised Catholic. I went to a Catholic grade school, high school, and university, I know exactly what I am talking with regards to the Catholic Church. You want more, the Catholic Church should put up or shut up with regards to abortion. Where are the Catholic orphanages, I have lived in a very Catholic city for 50 years and never known of a Catholic orphanage. They own the best hospitals in every major city why don't they offer a few free prenatal visits, and free delivery services if the baby is given up for adoption. How come every couple I know who have adopted had to go to Russia, or Guatemala to adopt. The Catholic Church will not do it because they don't have the free labor they used to - Nuns. Those women where the unpaid work force of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church has changed its stance on many issues because they now have to pay for labor and they can't stand it. You want to save the unborn use your hospitals and other resources and do it, 600 million dollars spent in one dioces alone to protect child molesters, that money could have saved a few babies. The Catholic Church should put up or shut up.
We don't rail against Christianity. We just rail against the A$$ Holes who preach Christianity, and them turn around and perform evil deeds against others. That would also include people in ISLAM, who perform evil acts. There are good and bad in both.
Well said.
My grandmother grew up in a Catholic orphanage, and she ran away from it with her sister, when she was 16. The stories she told were horrible, a child's worst nightmare. She never set foot in a Catholic Church again. I agree with you that the Catholic Church should lose tax exempt status as should ANY church that does the kind of electioneering the Catholic leadership does. It is long past time that we remember the wall between church and state and quit granting the "pope" status that he should not receive.
Isn't it great, Mr. Ayers, when you can do what God calls you to do AND it is politically and financially expedient for you? Unless of course he has taken a cut in pay to take on this position.
just another fake Christian.. you cannot be a republican and a Christian at the same time.. that is the same as saying you are a Satan worshiper and a Christian.. the two are entirely incompatible..
Absolutely correct HB.
When someone tells me God told him to do something, I reflexively grab my zipper and wallet. This is not a theocracy (yet) but these folks just keep thumpin' for it.
