As of Friday afternoon there was no deal to keep the government open. What will that mean for the Week Ahead? Will this uncertainty keep the President in town? At least one thing is certain, Republicans who want to be president are still hitting the trail.

*Uh HUM*

CAN I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE? We have Two Birthdays to celebrate @ the Dew Drop Inn this evening!
Would you ALL please join me in wishing our Master of Ceremonies, Inn Keeper, & special friends: Independent Redneck & JohnA, a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY?
In both your honor, here's a clip from my ALL TIME favorite rendition of Happy Birthday done by none other than Stevie Wonder:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJ1uSAxqUuc
Don't l@@k now, but, I talked the 'inkman' into making a special appearance later this evening! ;o)
Of course, there will be a never ending supply of Feisty's Famous *popcorn*!
IR & John A: Happy birthdays and many more. Was an interesting day just to sit and watch our friends from across the aisle.
Hey, there, Feisty. Say, what did you do to make Spankie, Bob and the likes of our paid poster, JoWhanna so pissy this afternoon- show up? They are all over the boards like a rash. Nothing but negativitiy and more negativity.
(oh, wait- this IS a 'liberal' site....never mind)
Happy birthday, IR & John!
See, now, how easy it is to be happy? Gee, sure hope somone collapses me before I get too silly!
Buzz,
I see you are feeling the Emily Litella, also, today! There isn't enough Lamisil to cure the raging itch those folks are festering!
Friday I've got Friday on my mind! Load up the Juke box and let's get this party started!
Where've you been, Feisty?
I've missed you like a dog misses his favorite bone.
lol
Collapse away.
Go find another fire hydrant.
Nice to hear from you, Navy.
You've let Feisty drag you down to her level, though.
:-]
As much as I would LOVE to take the credit - I didn't have to lift a finger, being pi$$y comes naturally to that bunch!
Navy - how about Obama's classification of the troops as non-essential.
Kinda wrecks that argument you made yesterday, no?
And yet you refuse to reply. Huh, I suppose you are only capable on silly conclusions, absent meaningful support.
It's ok Navy - I'll leave you alone. Wouldn't want you to have to break out the cyber-bully thing-y on a lovely Friday.
Naww Drive By we are certainly not pissy - we are having fun with the fun Pelosi has provided.
And just think, next week and for the next several it'll be all budget, all the time.
You ready for that my man?
"Friday on my Mind"? As in the Easy Beats? Geez- I was in the 9th grade!
"...favorite bones"? Hey, Mixed- you got a 'favorite bone"? Neat. Is it YOURS?
Hey it's a Birthday Party for two of our most beloved posters. I hope you both have a wonderful joyful very very Happy Birthday.
Sending my kindest regards,
Pat
from Bawstun, MA
where our most beloved team is no longer winless. We beat the DAMN Yanks. We're now 1-6. Bit of an uphill climb we got goin' huh? Hey, why waste time?!
Anyway - HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY. CHEERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Time for a few cold beers to go along with a few chicken fajitas.
MB:
Just pulling your leg a bit on the bone jest with Feisty. Just a little light jesting. Now you get a turn I owe you one. Have a great weekend.
He sure can dish it out can't he Navy?
When it comes to taking it... eh... not so much! lol
Hey thanks you'll. You know your all Aces and Mixed even you couldn't spoil my Birthday Mood today. Hey Pat a rainy afternoon off and you know what I did with it? Spent it switching between my Natinals and Boston and the Yanks on my new Baseball package that the RH ex ST bought me for my birthday. You'll up there in Bawstan beat the Yanks and mine beat the Mets and anytime a old Southern Boy can see that much constirnation in them Yankeee quarters is a good day. Now I get the threefer since Mr. Boehner and his merry band of Yahoo's are going to shut things down so I don't have to worry about going downtown tomorrrow to see the Cherry Blossom Parade in the rain. BTW in case anybody asked I'm still old enough to know better and still to dang young to care.Okay Barkeep set me and my friends up a round of that good old White Freedom Lightning ( even old Mixed since he made it past the Bouncer his little eyes must not be to bloodshot and beady this evening) and as soon as Red's ( nobody does Birthday's quite as good as Red you'll) Birthday music stops playing there Drive-By how about a little Johnny C. " I Walk the Line" and "Ring of Fire". Later we'll go back to Patsy and "Crazy" cause sometimes that looks like the way the F.R. World has got
You had me with Johnny Cash IR!
Miss Elly is ONE lucky lady! Here's hoping that Victoria's Secret has sprung along with spring! ;o)
As for MB - there ain't enough Visine in the world to alleviate his 'beady' Cheeto colored eyeballs!
Red a Southern Gentleman never tells but I will go so far as to say it has been an outstanding afternoon. As for old Mixed yeah your probably right. Even that that 50 gallon drum we set beside the door hooked up to the powerwasher couldn't keep those eyes from looking like two pee holes in the snow.
Hey IR, that was a helluva post!!! Seems like you're enjoying your BIG DAY. Johnny Cash - Sunday Morning Coming Down and A Boy Name Sue.
Classic classic songs. I still miss him and find myself youtubing him often.
Next up: John Boehner any minute. Hope it's good news for the Nation.
Happy Birthday to Independent Redneck and John!
SURPRISE!
Happy Birthday to Independent Rednect and John A!
I hope you all enjoyed a mostly pleasant day!
Me, I setback a bit and took a look at the graffiti that got sprayed all over my favorite First Site. It was just sad.
Oh, and then I took a gander at the headlines regarding the government shutdown. I wish the Republicans would be content to just Overreach instead of the full on assault known as the Reach Around. They just have no limit to the ways they want government INVOLVED in their culture war; but NOT INVOLVED in their corporate interests. Defund Congressional Farm Subsidies Now!
I guess we really never thought the tiger would put on spots now did we?
Oh, hey the Dew Drop is open for business and if you wear a green jacket, drinks are on Steeler Fan, in honor of the Master's.
Me, I'll be drinking to celebrate the birthdays of some special friends, IR who's always been kind and sent me cards and gifts toward good health AND John A - who I had the pleasure to meet when I was down Florida way over the holidays.
You two are tops in my book! So have a Fabulous Night. Buzz, what do you have on the jukebox for us?
Birthdays have been termed non-essential by Obama.
Bar Mitzvahs are fine though. You can still have one of those.
I flagged you as inflammatory - as I assume you know I am Jewish and dropped your little stink bomb deliberately. Why don't you filth up your own thread?
No kidding Clara!
Coincidence she chose you to leave her steaming pile on? I think NOT!
She's earned my vote either for being malicious and or ignorant!
Clara:
I agree. Was an interesting selection of paint. I am on my way over to the DDI for a nice tall cool one today.
Nicely said, Clara. Happy Birthday Independent Redneck VA today and John A, tomorrow! Green jackets, are in order to honor the "Masters". I hear a couple golfers may drop by the Dew Drop to help us celebrate. Considering the week it's been, a gin and tonic sounds good. It seems some folks this week had an aversion to free speech if it wasn't "their speech".
Thanks to our First Read hosts for giving us topics to discuss and a place to discuss them. We appreciate your hard work. Have a nice weekend everyone.
The Squeaker of the House has requested 'It's my Party (and I'll cry if I want to), by Leslie Gore. The barkeep must have misunderstood the "Leslie" part of the artist, though, because he said "it is NOT getting warmer in here". Hey, IR- is the guy in the apron a damned 'me firster', or something- or was he just pulling my leg?
..."malicious and or ignorant...", Feisty?
Pot...kettle, dear.
Pot, kettle.
lol
BOTH
lol
You guys are soooo predictable.
Dissent, Navy.
Embrace it.
It's what we fought for, eh?
MB:
Yes we did and we would again in a heart beat. I really hope that our troops get paid (I would like to bring them all home, heard today that maybe we will be in Iraq 2 more years, you hear anything on that?) this is getting out of hand on both sides. Have a great weekend.
Many thanks to you to Clara you know all my friends like yourself are real special to me. That grafitti is gettin right nasty ain't it. Wonder how much it's going to cost Mr. Murray and 'em to get it sandblasted off? Anyway don't worry 'bout old JoAnna she's been trying to crash the party for a while in the hopes of finding a dance partner and she just doesn't seem to understand that my Dear Old Redneck Daddy always told me that life is entirely to short to dance with ugly partners. And even Joan Rivers's sculpter can't do enough with that mug to make it worth dancing with.
If a shutdown occurs, it's a failure of the nation's leadership.
And...leadership starts at the top.
It is what it is.
I agree. Boehner has shown an abysmal lack of leadership, and he will be gone, but not soon enough.
Mixed Bag
I think it's safe to say the United States Congress will see it's approval ratings sink to a historic low after this. Boehner should have pushed back against the right wing in his Party.
Our country didn't need this. The economic recovery didn't need this. To think Japan is grappling with a natural catastrophe on an unimaginable scale while the U.S. generates a man-made one of such stunning stupidity, is really sad.
Psst Patrick - even your dead parakeet knew Obama was the top.
And Amy can they possibly go lower than they already are?
But, Congress (the House) is in charge of the budget and appropriations. Right? That's what y'all reminded us back in November.
And it all comes down to .......... free abortions for everbody are essential.
pathetic.
I agree, a total lack of leadership by Boehner. He is letting the Tea Party drag him around by his nose. I bet if he did not have to get permission from the tea party this would have been done by now and we would be moving on. Be careful for what you wish for there Mr. Boehner.
Amy B.-
You should be listening to Mark Murray. Mark says that the NBC/WSJ poll indicates that 20% will blame President Obama; 20% will blame Congressional Democrats; and 2% will blame BOTH President Obama AND Congressional Democrats.
Add it up, and 42% will blame President Obama, Congressional Democrats, or both.
37% will blame Congressional Republicans.
But you're right...Congress will and should take a hit.
But President Obama, and Congressional Democrats will suffer most.
Mark and the NBC/WSJ poll have it about right, Amy.
Bob,
So, you'd rather see another mouth to feed on welfare because the mother didn't have money to either care for the child or get an abortion?
Pathetic, indeed.
And of course we have the people that like to add apples and oranges together to make lemonade
But Bob, the Republicans are saying it's not about abortion, it's about "spending," which is it?
Surely it can't be the funding for Planned Parenthood, which Richard Nixon signed a bill to fund and which costs less than the earmarks Alaska gets for sports arenas, bridge and road projects, a year, combined.
What a ridiculous day it has been; I think most people are wondering: what the heck is the problem with Congress? The media is reporting that nobody apparently knows what the sticking point is. Is it the funding for Planned Parenthood? Really? That's what the Republicans are jeopardizing our economic recovery for?
SOme of 'em come up with poop soup.
Amy:
With the GOP/TP it is about everything and nothing. They are masters at talking out of both sides of their mouths. They think people do not listen, but they are lately and they are tuning them out.
So Mixed Bag,
That's why the Republicans are shutting down the government? To make the President and the Democrats "look bad?" Talk about putting Party before country. That is inexcusible. Shameful. Treasonable, really.
Pay attention, Amy B.-
It's not the Republicans shutting down the government.
DBO:
Good to see ya today. Does it come with a side order of Elephant Chips? Have a great weekend my friend.
Amy:
You are 100% correct it is the GOP/TP that is shutting down the government. They got the money they original asked for just like Walker did in WI. Then the GOP/TP asked for more just like Walker did in going after Collective Bargaining. Same model.
This is not about spending cuts anymore than WI, OH, MI etc was about spending cuts. It is all about Power and Greed.
Mixed Bag
Not the Republicans shutting down the government? But Bob said (before he collapsed) it's about 'free abortions for everyone,' which I assumed meant the Republicans refuse to vote for the Budget as long as the city of D.C. allows city funds to pay for abortion services (according to whatever rules the city has, I don't know what that entails,) or, perhaps the Republicans refuse to vote for the budget as long as Planned Parenthood gets federal funds for providing non- abortion gynecological services to low income women ( we know federal funds cannot be used for any abortions.) Services Planned Parenthood has gotten federal funds for since the 1970's.
If Republicans don't vote for the Budget, the government is shut down.
Mixed- trying to explain basic math to Amy?
No there, there, my friend. Good luck.
US Navy Disabled Veteran - Retired
I do believe you are right.
Bob...collapsed?
Who did that Amy B.?
Who's afraid of Bob?
Not me, Amy.
Amy B. Portland, ME
But Bob, the Republicans are saying it's not about abortion, it's about "spending," which is it?
For someone who supposed to be so learned; what part of taking charge of someone else body is against freedom does he not get?
Sure booby, then if it is not about money it has to be about taking away Freedom.
I didn't collapse Bob, Mixed Bag.
Don't worry, Bev-
Bob's collapsed.
Who cares what he thinks.
But you didn't speak out about it, did you Amy?
Didn't you recently have a comment about those who don't speak out when this happens?
I must be thinking of someone else....
I would like to add my best wishes to the birthday couple.
MB:
I did not "C" him either. Most of us would like all the posts to stay up and let the people read them and judge for themselves. Lately this site has a very bad case of collapse. Many have no violations of the CoH and many people are just doing it because this board makes it too easy to do.
I think you once wrote something similar that you also do not agree with collasping unless their is a CoH issue. Am I correct.
You are indeed correct.
Happy Birthday to Independent Redneck and John.
Can't wait to kick back with you.
Big time *Hugs forthcoming*
Independent Redneck, John A:
Happy Birthday wishes to you both, from one Aries to another.
Once again it's been a fierce week ; but it was worth it.
Thanks Mark Domenico & First read crew.
Seriously, how can anyone keep a straight face watching or listening to that wild eyed moon bat, Michelle Backmann ; unless they too are delusional?
Happy Weekend gang
Looks like we got a new format again.
Hey looks like the Left lost the judicial election in Wisconsin, after all that hype in First Read about the crooked unions political re-awakening and such...
Now , silence...HA HA ! The Supreme Court Judge endorsed by Sarah Palin won....you better drink heavily at the Moonbat Dew Drop Inn, leftist koolaid served 24/7....
how convenient that woman found her 'mistake,' wasn't it?
http://millermps.wordpress.com/2011/04/07/info-on-kathy-nickolaus-waukesha-county-clerk-republican/
It appears there may be an issue here?? The only souce for the information is from her personal laptop that only she has total access to. Did she play with the data. Nobody knows but this is not the way to run an election. Way too easy to play God.
This person was involved in another fraud, read the article.
A very Happy Birthday to Independent Redneck and many more. Feisty actually invited me to DDI yesterday but i am south of border so I will happily toast up margarita for IRV's birthday
Hi Lisa S. Have a great weekend.
Happy Birthday to IR and John!! A champagne toast to you both!
And IR----in honor of this special day, we are going to do all the work at the Dew Drop Inn and Comeback Inn this weekend so you & your special lady can celebrate! We'll all enjoy the DDI Masters event, too!
Thanks to our FR hosts for keeping us so well informed this week, especially all the shutdown info you've been sharing with us. I'm sure you all are extra busy so we really appreciate the extra efforts you put in.
Time to drain the swamp and vote for some ADULTS that can get the job done. Both the Dems and Repubs are children playing politics.
Apparently many if not most Republicans don't understand economics!
They simply don't understand ecomics. It isn't about spending money, it is about what you spend money on! A Hoover damn paid back 1 trillion more in economic growth that it cost to build! That aircraft carrier provide peace and rescue is fully depreciated the minute it was built! Government deficit isn't like a business deficit, all is fully costed the second it is in service and is NEVER reflected on a positive for net worth like a business. A deficit isn't a deficit if you have a positive net worth! So, your water supply is deficit spending, but gave you a netwoth you never count! That's the difference, it isn't about spending it is about on what you spend on! Education, preventive health services, good water, transportation, clean air, energy, all add net worth to us! Networth not counted on the US balance sheets!
Spanky boyo please post your source for the troops nonessential by Obama
Ray:
Spanky cannot. He is just a teabag troll with no new ideas and the ones he has have been proved failures by the last administration. He likes to try and put words into poeples mouths. We up here in the north call it lying.
Republicans, prior to Friday last week, along with their Tea Party colleagues repeatedly announced publicly that they were going to shut down the government; and I repeat; It was Republicans who started to threaten repeatedly that they were going to shut down the government. They were always very happy to announce during their public rallies that their goal was to shut down the government. We all watched them on television shouting, “shut it down, shut it down". When the deadline drew very close, they all decided to distance themselves from what had become their daily political slogan that they were shutting down the government. Why are Republicans now ashamed of accepting that they wanted to shut down the government?
If you want to know that these people are liars, just see how they all changed their rhetoric into trying to lie to the public that the Democrats were the ones planning to shut down the government. It is very foolish to lie. Why should Republicans lie all the time?
The GOP/RNC have their fingers on the political light switch in Washington, and they are very eager to turn off the lights of economic progress. Make sure America. That the Koch Brothers are not trying to run our energy policies. Because if you do not support GOP/RNC extremists like "Whacky Walker?" They will then feel politically motivated to turn off the economic lights.
