According to the latest national NBC/WSJ poll, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney leads the hypothetical 2012 GOP pack with support from 21 percent of Republican primary voters -- followed by Trump and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee at 17 percent each, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 11 percent and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin at 10 percent.
Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty is at 6 percent, Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann gets 5 percent, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum receives 3 percent and Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour gets 1 percent.
Strikingly, Trump -- who has received a considerable amount of attention for incorrectly stating that President Obama wasn't born in the U.S. -- finishes first among Tea Party supporters (at 20 percent), followed by Romney (17 percent), Huckabee (14 percent), Palin (12 percent) and Gingrich (9 percent). (Trump hosts the "The Apprentice" on NBC. Msnbc.com is a joint venture between NBC-Universal and Microsoft.)
When the field is whittled down to five Republicans -- Bachmann, Barbour, Gingrich, Pawlenty and Romney -- Romney leads with 40 percent, Gingrich comes in second with 20 percent and Pawlenty is third with 12 percent.

The fact that Trump could play any significant role in the Republican primary astounds me, as it should, everyone.
However, if the Republicans can ruin their chances in the election by pulling something like this off, that wouldn't be so bad either.

First, why are we seriously debating about whether Trump is going to run for office? This is a joke, Trump's a joke, and arguing whether Obama has a legit birth certificate is a joke. The fact that people who oppose Obama pull out this kind of bs only shows that they have nothing real to argue about it. These people are just part of the big joke that is a small part of the American public.
Those "small parts" are going to move the electorate to the other side.

Does anyone care about the budget, union rights, our involvement in two wars, aid in a third war, healthcare, civil rights, jobs, or taxes, or is everyone going to argue about Obama's birth certificate, citizenship, nothing of which has anything to do with these issues.
The ignorance of people is amazing, not to mention most arguments like yours are baseless, he lived in Indonesia, he has a legitimate birth certificate certfied by every organization possible, includiing factcheck.org, and he returned to the U.S. after 4 years living in Indonesia from the age of 6-10. Now you see why we can't let them eliminate the Dept. of Education? I cannot imagine a lower level of stupid. The Republican agenda wants to make America into a third-world country, so that they can hire $2 an hour employees right here in the United States. I cannot understand how anyone who is not rich and white can support them because they hate everyone who isn't. In addition, they want to eliminate the FDA (safe food) and the EPA (safe air and water) in order to enrich corporate coffers even more.

No Republican who believes in private property rights would vote for Donald Trump unless he is totally ignorant. In a widely reported case during the 1990′s, Mr. Trump and his business partners engaged government officials in the attempted seizure of private homes and small businesses in Atlantic City in order to acquire cheap land to build a parking lot for one his casinos. Fortunately for one of the would-be victims, Vera Coking, and the help of the Institute for Justice, Trump was denied his theft in a court case based on a technicality. And that was not Trump's only attempt to steal other people's property via other Eminent Domain. He tried it in California in 2008 and is even now closing in on the land of Scottish farmer Michael Forbes in order to build a golf course. He who would vote for Donald Trump is neither a Republican nor an American.

If I had to vote anyone from the republican side, and I am a republican - it would be Trump. The Dems cannot use the excuse he has no leadership experience, has no financial background, does not understand world diplomacy. Heck - we have that now and Obama has term to date only met 25% of his election promises. Great speaker the Pres is but he couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat, when it comes to policy. In terms of the other republican candidates - they are better off in a chili cook off that running for the top spot
The last time republicans gave us someone with those qualifications, we got Bush. How did that work out for you? Trump is a bully not a diplomat, who has run several businesses into the ground[ seriously, a casino going bankrupt, seriously?] Renting Gaddafi a piece of land qualifies him as a world leader? You people need to get over the idea that because Trump says something it is the truth. A bombastic blowhard. So are most dictators. He doesn't have a diplomatic bone in his body. It's far to early to be worried about polls. That said, Romney will likely be the pick. He and Trump are both very successful business people. Trump's a tad to abrasive for most people. Obama, on the other hand, couldn't run a successful lemonade stand. He can, however, rip one off with the best of them. Likely learned how to do it as a community organizer. Right now the country needs a business man that can balance a budget and create condidtions for job growth, not an extortionist.
Please ohhhhhhh PLEASE LET DONALD RUN FOR PRESIDENT! I can use a few months of non-stop laughing, not to mention all the jabs I can give the right-whacked in-laws!!!
