Wasserman Schultz selected as DNC chair

From Chuck Todd, Domenico Montanaro, and Mark Murray
Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz has been selected as the new chair of the Democratic National Committee, Democratic sources tell NBC News.

Wasserman Schultz will not give up her House seat. Former Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) also served concurrently as DNC chair and as a U.S. Senator.

Wasserman Schultz replaces outgoing DNC Chair Tim Kaine, who announced today he is running for the open U.S. Senate seat in Virginia.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this post incorrectly stated that Wasserman Schultz would have been the first woman to run either party. In fact, there were women that ran both the RNC and the DNC -- Mary Louise Smith ran the Republican National Committee from 1974 to 1977. Jean Westwood and Debra DeLee ran the DNC.

Excellent choice! One things for certain, she's got blue running through her veins! I remember what an ardent supporter she was of Hillary during the primary and then when President Obama received the nomination, she threw her support behind him 150%!!

Congrats Debbie!

You've got my e-mail address, let me know if you need anything...

Continue to kick butt & take no crap GF!

Great - I love blondes.

Oh wait....that is not her real hair color?

So Feisty what's more fake - Boehner's tan or Debbie's hair color and nose?

Come on old gal, I know you do not wish to debate the merits of Obama's plan to reduce the deficit this year, or debt going forward.

Consider this my gift to you.

You are welcome.

As a conservative I'll chime in Rev. I have seen her on many news shows. She is a good speaker but loose with facts sometimes. But who isn't in politics. The thing is that now that she holds that position the light will shine on her and if she stretches the truth it will come back on her.

She does do her homework by watching Rachel for the talking points. And now Fiesty will have more liberal quotes for us. About time we get away from the same crap day after day.

Fortunately for Deb, she won't have former DCCC Chair Chris Van Hollen hanging around her neck.

Good luck defending 23 U.S. Senate seats.

this move will prove to help the Republicans. she is hyper-partisan and easily becomes flustered and loose with the truth. She's basically a female version of the uber-hack alan greyson.

but liberals like to keep un-intelligent bad speakers and leaders; ie, pelosi, reid, murray, boxer, on and on and on(heck, even obama and biden; uhh, uhh, uhh)!

good luck with that bad choice, pffft! she will turn Americans off with her fabricated attacks. ONLY LIBS will blindly support her. (like they do obama)

She is unafraid, and will counter the "teabagger"/Republican lies and hate with humor and charm. I hope to have the chance to vote for her for President down the road. Right now, she will be the best at getting the President re elected.

Scrambolo - Are you threatening me?

What up Scram, are you saying I don't love blondes, or that her hair color really is blonde? And of those two, which is an attempt to pick a fight, as opposed to an observation on my humble part?

But hey, while you are here, perhaps you can help us all out. Is Boehner orange? Is Christie fat? Is Bachmann "bat sh!t crazy?"

So where we gonna do this? Down in the alley? behind the dumpster? Wait I know - down by the river.

You go, I'll meet you there. k?

That's sweet of you scrambolo, and since Bev apparently can't come out and play today...

Ok tough guy, while I am awfully disappointed there will be no duel [shout out to MB], I will settle for your assessment of the current debt and deficit situation.

Do you think that the current spending levels are ok? Should there be any reductions in the current deficit? Are you comfortable with the fact that $.43 of every dollar spent is borrowed?

And what about Deb's hair color?

And does it just twist your panties into a bunch that the tea party is literally carrying the day? Come on now my man, you do get that all this fun talk about budgets, deficits and debt, oh and my personal favorite topic - debt service, stems from the rise of the tea party? Cool, huh?

And please do respond to the questions about color of skin, weight and mental stability. There seem to be very pressing to some here. I'd just love to get your take.

Oh and go ahead and educate my bigoted and ignorant "azz" on just why it is you feel I am bigoted and ignorant.

Go ahead I got some time to kill. :)

Naw, Scrambolo is definitely a Neocon.

Heck I bet he even supports the Libyan war for oil, right Scram? Obama was totally in the right for starting another war in a country that essentially only produces oil?

Plus there was the whole looking to start a fist fight thing-y that gave away his position of neocon-ness.

MB - So do you think Obama will ever actually do anything regarding the little debt crisis or continue to lean on cheap demagoguery?

Where can I place my bet and what is the over/under on actual leadership?

Feisty, care to wade in? How about you NewDay, my little ledge walker?

Spanky,

I don't have the time or inclination to "educate you", You should have thought of your education when you were in school. Now Spanky, I know you referred to me as "sweet", so I'll have to say, early on, I am straight and married and want no part of your homo overtures. Also, don't let the TP people know your gay, they don't like those type people from what I hear, see,and read. And as for Mrs. Schultz's hair color, I don't judge people by the color of their hair, or skin, I judge them by their character and actions. Perhaps, some day you will learn the wisdom of this fact. The current levels of spending, and resulting deficits, have been actually happening repeatedly over the last 45 years. The deficits have actually increased more under Republican guidance than Democrats. The Office of Budget Management of the U.S. Government will verify this FACT, if you take the time to look at the statistics. One of the worst offenders, Ronald Reagan. I agree that action to reduce our deficit needs to happen NOW. But we can start by cutting defense. How many nuclear bombs and missiles do we need to turn the world to glass. Also, I know you'll like this, George W. Bush has us entangled in wars (Iraq and Afghanistan) which have cost us over $3 TRILLION. That would be 21.4% of our TOTAL debt. Add in $2 TRILLION we spent to save the world economy from collapse in October of 2008, which happened under the "leadership" of George W. Bush, and we can see that old GW Bush did his best to bankrupt OUR country. He alone was directly responsible for over 35.7% of our total debt. And to this day the GOP wants LESS Regulation of corporate America! Absurd! And of course you have "time to kill", I'll bet a lot of time to kill or fill or something! They say ignorance is bliss, so I'm sure you will have a very happy life. I sure hope so! Good luck!

But do riddle me this [unless you have scrambled off already, a lot of you libbies tend to do that]: we agree wars are bad, and a huge suck on the debt, so why won't Obama end these ENDless wars?

Why did he increase the troops in Afghanistan, and start up in Libya?

And again, if you have shout your wad, and now refuse to respond I'll understand. Otherwise, I'll be seeing you tomorrow. :)

I'm surprised you let Scram get away with those lies, Spanky. Democrats have been the majority power in Congress for 80 years, not Republicans. Further, Obama & Dem CO. have deficit spent more than Bush, HW Bush, and Reagan combined - including the wars.

look at Mixed Bag. He is positively running the monkeys.

Oh and Sylvinite - we all got your memo: Republicans are bad, evil, horrible people that only want to screw the poor and middle class.

Oh, except for the fact that Obama signed into law tax cuts for the wealthiest 2%, and while he was president, and while the dems had both the House and Senate, they somehow failed to pass a budget.

You do remember all the way back to 2010, right Slyvinite? And dude:"A the same time they dilited tax cuts for the poor?" Uh, since when do the poor pay taxes? Remember it's us EVVVILLL rich folk that pay all the taxes. And you are welcome.

        #1.42 - Wed Apr 6, 2011 10:41 AM EDT

Isn't this a great move for the Democrats? She'll be a great help to the GOP when she slants the Dems. farther left than some Dems would like. Will some Dems stay with the party? Now that will be the Wasserman test we all should laugh about.

"You're obviously not a Democrat; so, why do you even care?"

I am a democart and voted for McCarthy before you were born. My mistake. I care because the left - not real democrats, are destroying America with their entitlement mentality. You are not entitled anything except the rights under the constitution and no bs rights you think you have beyond that.

You are obviously the cause of the downfall of America, thinking you are entitled to something you never earned. I don't care your race. Only racists care. I am multiracial, and don't care.

You are entitled to only that which you have earned. If you didn't earn it, then you are not entitled. I understand that most of the idiots today have been the victims of the system, dumbed down, thinking they should get what was never earned. You have been duped by the left. You don't get anything you don't earn except thru corruption of the system. If you are for corruption, then you are the problem, educated or not.

And I am still wondering why so many here are afraid to us their real names. Ashamed, felons, afraid someone will know them -aka cowards, or just want to be anonymous when they bite selves in azz.

I use my real name. Why are you so scared? Obumer will protect you. Believe it.

She is an energetic American Leader and will be respected by her fellow Democrats, Independents, and most people around the world. Congratulations, Chairwoman Schultz! This is the kind of caring and compasionate person which the United States needs at this troubled and divided time in our history! This 'good news' 'announcement makes my day a bit more sunny.

Perhaps they will reconsider and indict him for business fraud. They sure let him "slide" earlier in the FBI probe of Columbia/HCA Corporation where he was CEO. He resigned in disgrace four months after the FBI probe uncovered widespead medical fraud in that company. Now the urchin is our govenor, how embarassing!

Also if they shut down Columbia/HCA, you know cause they are no good dirty de-frauders, how many people would lose their jobs?

Question which EEVVVIIILLLLL corporation paid more taxes last year, Columbia or GE?

                  Spanky,

Well now, they don't need to shut down the company to rid the company of a corrupt CEO. After all they didn't shut down the U.S. Government when Nixon resigned in disgrace as chief executive of the United States, did they? And as to who paid more taxes in 2010 I really don't know. I know that if HCA paid $l.00 in taxes they paid more than General Electric, which paid NONE! Now don't get me wrong Spank-eye, corporations are not evil in and of themselves, the evil in corporations ALWAYS comes in the form of executives and special interest groups representing the company. These are people who manage and mismanage corporations. Many, many of them could care less about this country, their employees, or anyone but themselves. In short, they are often brilliant, selfish, extremely greedy, and arrogant to the letter! This is actually the evil you refer to in your post. Exactly like the current govenor of Florida, Mr. Rick Scott! Please give this some serious consideration, the next time one of your TP friends say no to any business or corporate regulation, or as they would say interference, by the government!

Does this maybe answer your question? (from wikipedia)

"Wasserman Schultz was appointed to the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee in her first term. During the 2006 elections, she raised over seventeen million dollars in campaign contributions for her Democratic colleagues (third most after Nancy Pelosi and Rahm Emanuel), she was chosen as Chief Deputy Whip and appointed to the powerful Appropriations Committee, a plum assignment for a sophomore congresswoman......According to the Congress.org 2008 Power Rankings, she was the 24th most powerful member of the House and 22nd most powerful Democratic representative (also most powerful Florida representative)"

Thank you, JoAnne in PA, for actual data (I hope - wiki, and all). I almost didn't comment because all I saw were a couple of junior high kids calling each other out, a deranged vet calling Ms. Wasserman-Shultz a Nazi and a bunch of people complaining about her hair color.

Now, it is true that the Duke of Orange has toned it down some, but does that mean he is no longer on the patch and smoking and is now just smoking??? - tanning lotions aren't the only thing that colors the skin.

As to hair color - name any rep or senator, probably of both genders who is not touching things up? Name a woman who has not streaked her hair IRL. Goodness, until my snow white mane took over, my hair lady kept records on 3X5 cards because I changed hair color all the time; the last being a champagne blonde with pink and lavender streaks (age at the time:60). There is no need for these ad hominems. We all know that she understands the weight of her positions, but as a woman, she is used to doing double the work and still getting dissed. Of course, she will succeed because we are able to do so much more at the same time than a mere male.

The Liberals like the big government she espouses. If the rest of America likes that too, then the 2012 election will go Democrat. But if the mood of the people is the same as it was in the 2010 election, the Republicans should again enjoy enormous gains, almost regardless of the candidates.

                      Plethuno,

The mood will not be, and IS NOT now the same as it was in November of 2010. I suggest you look at some non-biased opinion polls. As the song goes, "turn out the lights the (Tea) Party's over"; the proverbial conservative "cat" is out of the bag and running loose causing havoc throughout the land of freedom, and some FORMER conservatives are starting to see reality. Just ask those folks in Wisconsin, Ohio, and Indiana.

I won't belay you with what going on, for you already know:

                      1. Womens Issues are at stake.

                      2. The GOTP's assualt the U.S Constitution.

                      3. The unwarranted attacks on Public and Union Workers in key battleground states.

                      The list goes on.

As you prepare yourself to sit in that "Big Chair" and tackle these issues, I want you to keep this axiom in mind from Murphy's Law:

"The easy things are simple. The simple things are hard."

Your job now is to come up with a plan that fits this "simple" task that has multiple fronts:

BEAT THE REPUBLICANS AT ALL LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT BETWEEN NOW AND THE UP COMING 2012 ELECTIONS!!!!!

Calling lone soldier a tea-bagger is indeed an insult.

Easy pickin's for the usual suspects and (thankfully!) no deep thinking or heavy lifting involved...

Liberals will endorse and conservatives will criticize...SURPRISE!

Debbie Wasserman Schultz, congratulations! You go girl! Articulate, smart, poised, I have always liked your style, and knew you would be a force in politics.

sshine: as a woman, I resent any other woman being called a "hag" ... grow up and be articulate, name calling is never classy
