“The number 2 Republican in the House said yesterday that the chamber will not pass another short-term federal funding bill to avert a government shutdown if talks between the GOP and the White House fail to produce a 2011 spending agreement by an April 8 deadline,” the Boston Globe writes. “Representative Eric Cantor of Virginia, the majority leader, said ‘time is up’ and that it is up to Democrats controlling the White House and the Senate to offer more significant spending cuts as part of legislation to fund the government for the rest of the budget year. ‘We’re going to need to see a deal struck where our members can go home and tell their constituents that we’re doing what we said we would do,’ Cantor said.”
“While most of Capitol Hill is focused on the partisan showdown over federal spending, House Democrats are embroiled in a separate battle: whether to produce an alternative to the GOP budget,” Roll Call writes, adding: “Democratic leaders are particularly sensitive about putting forth a budget this year since Republicans hammered them for months in 2010 for failing to produce one. Factions within the Democratic Caucus, meanwhile, are moving forward with plans to produce their own budget, complicating the Democratic leadership’s position even more.”
“Conservatives are turning to a new message in the escalating budget fight: A government shutdown is not actually a shutdown,” The Hill reports. “It’s a ‘slowdown,’ according to the new refrain from Tea Party leader Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.). Or as House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) put it on Monday, the stalemate over spending could cause the government ‘to partially shut down.’ … ‘Calling it New Coke didn’t make it taste better, and trying to change the name of Speaker [John] Boehner’s [R-Ohio] government shutdown won’t make it hurt middle-class families and seniors any less,’ said Jesse Ferguson, a spokesman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.”
Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) says of riders de-funding Planned Parenthood and limiting the EPA, per The Hill: “We will not accept those riders. And any thought to the contrary is wrong. We believe that they don't belong in a budget bill," he added. "There can be debate on these issues. We believe they would be defeated in the Senate."
“Republicans have found a new foil in their war with the White House over the deficit and spending: Senate Democratic Conference Vice Chairman Charles Schumer,” Roll Call writes.
“Senate conservatives plan to filibuster legislation to increase the nation’s debt ceiling above $14.3 trillion, a move that will make it harder for President Obama to garner the votes he needs,” The Hill reports.
“California Democrats are trying to brand Rep. Dan Lungren with a new nickname to use in their race against the Republican in 2012: ‘Styrofoam Dan,’” Roll Call reports.
Anthony Weiner had more than $2,000 in unpaid parking tickets in DC.

America could care less about Cantor....and what he thinks... hes a political hack at best !
Cantor is of no consequence. He speak as if he is gitty with excitement over the possibility the Republicans may cause a shut down "again". What an "extremist".
Obamba is of no consequence.
Cantor is after Mr. Tan-man's job. It he makes the tea baggers happy, he thinks he can get it. But then what. The reality is the Republicans ran their yaps for two years with NO solutions to any real problems. Mr. Tan-man's "Pledge to America" was a joke. They didn't win the House as much as the Democrats give it to by playing nice guy. But now the Republicans are in charge and they're like the dog who finally caught the car. What do you do with it now!!!!
Charlies - What the Republicans are doing with the car they finally caught is they are PEEING on it!
Charlie: But now the Republicans are in charge and they're like the dog who finally caught the car. What do you do with it now!!!!
Charlie I agree! I have said all along that the Republicans really have few ideas and I believe they are using these "extreme" riders to get the Democrats to come up with ideas that they (repubs.) can use to hammer the democrats with and turn the attention to the democrats ideas rather than compromise with solutions that can work for the good of all.
However, it is my opinion that some are getting what they voted for in November by not paying close attention to what the Repub/Tea Party was saying they were going to do. Just another example of what happens when one votes out of emotion rather than good judgement.
"tea baggaers'. They will be his Waterloo.
Amen to that Drive by.
Perhaps if the Republicans get ALL the cuts they want, then people will soon see how they affect their lives. Maybe then they might understand what it means to vote against your best interest.
Maybe those cheering on huge cuts, whose parents on social security or medicare will suffer, will finally get the Republican picture.
The Republicans will do or say anything to bring Obama down. But along with him, comes the whole country. A part of me almost wishes it would happen. Maybe we really need to take the dive off the cliff and land on rock bottom.
But then it might be too late to drag ourselves up. We are already far behind China in investing in infrastructure, education and green technology. It's pathetic that grown people can be so petty, irresponsible and disrespectful and willing to trash this country. They have no long term vision, and that is what is needed in the 21st century.
The Framers of the Constitution are rolling in their graves. The basis of our givernment was formed by compromise.
I'm really tired of this Trojan Horse the Republicans call cutting spending. The real issue is the Republicans incessant and tireless efforts to defund the government by insisting on and getting endless tax cuts to the point where the government can no longer function in the best interests of the people of this country. This is all being orchestrated by the wealthiest individuals and corporations who show no interest in ponying up their fair shares of taxes in support of this country. They want to reap the benefits of living here and doing business here but don't want any of the responsibilities instead choosing to try to foist this on the backs of the working middle class Americans. Now in turn the Republicans state we MUST cut spending because we are spending more than we are taking in. No duh!!! I wonder if that has anything to do with the massive tax cuts of the last let's just say 30 years starting with Reagan. I'm not moved by their arguments and I think they should be called on the carpet for plunging our country into this massive economic recession and total chaos in the states. Ultimately trying to take hard earned money away from middle class workers in an effort to lower wages as a whole here in America is cynical at best and downright evil at worst.
Cantor reminds me of the weird kid in High School that was ignored, so he found that the only way to get attention was to say outlandish things.
In his case, the 27/7 news cycle is the perfect fit for him. He loves the attention.
They most likely stuffed him in a locker.
LMAO! The left is crying about $61 billion in discretionary spending is to much for FY 2011.
Yet obamas FY 2012 suggested budget contains provisos for cutting $73 billion/year from the discretionary budget.
Talk about politicians kicking the can down the road. The TP wants bigger cuts, the GOP wants $61 billion in cuts, the democrats want very little in cuts and obama is going for $73 billion in cuts.

From a blog by John on answers.yahoo.com circa Feb 14, 2011...
LOL, all joking aside. Cut spending to sustainable levels before you ask me for more money. Because quite frankly, you're not spending it responsibly
Need Mr. Cantor be reminded that they [REPUBLIKLANS] said they would create jobs and we know how
that turned out...lyin' sacks of $Hi+ Share that with your constituents...tell then where the jobs are!
P.S. Where are the jobs, Mr. Drinker?
This is all a bunch of crap, 100 billion is still a drop in the bucket to what we are on the hook for. what a joke. these guys need to stop stalling with all this ideological BS and get to work making jobs in this country. our country is crumbling and we have millions of construction people out of work utilize them so we won't have to retrain them. We need to tax and tariff the crap out of companies that take the jobs offshore. I heard trump say that these people would leave the country and take their money with them. fine tax them when they do it, they produce nothing here they don"t invest here and refuse to pay taxes, what do we need them for? if they want to do that let them take their butts offshore and see if other countries will put up with them. They make it offshore let them sell it offshore. Global economy my butt. we have one of the biggest consumer economies on the planet and we can't make stuff for ourselves? When are we going to invest in ourselves instead of wasting time and fuel shipping our resources all over the world only to have them come back as cheap disposable junk that costs the same as stuff made here. people in this country need to demand and seek American made products. making cheap stuff with slave labor doesn't mean that it will be sold cheap, it will be sold at what the market will bear. just look at your 150 dollar sneakers. Yeah mr Cantor tick tock compromise and move on you still have to represent all of the people in this country and we all don't think like you.
