Roy Moore the next to jump into the 2012 GOP race?

Michele Bachmann, Donald Trump, maybe Rand Paul, and now Roy Moore?

The Wall Street Journal:

Remember Judge Roy Moore? He was the Alabama Supreme Court chief justice removed from office over the Ten Commandments monument he erected outside the state courthouse. Now, he’s about to jump into the presidential election in Iowa, GOP officials say.

Eight years after a state panel removed him from the bench over the commandments spat, and five years after he lost in the Republican primary in the Alabama governor’s race, the 64-year-old judge is preparing to launch a presidential exploratory committee and enter the Iowa fray, according to multiple Iowa GOP officials.

Moore lost GOP gubernatorial primaries in Alabama in 2006 and 2010. In fact, I wrote this piece below in '06 about Moore's rise and fall. The obvious question: If someone can't win GOP primaries -- twice! -- in Alabama, can he even be competitive in a presidential contest?

Three years ago, Roy Moore was well on his way to becoming the Next Big Thing in American politics.

Despite being ousted as Alabama’s chief justice for defying a federal order to remove his controversial 5,300-pound monument of the Ten Commandments inside the state’s judicial building, Moore quickly became one of the most popular figures in Alabama and an icon among religious conservatives. Supporters saw him as a possible candidate for governor, senator -- or even president.

Then came President George W. Bush’s re-election in 2004, which was greatly aided by a wave of evangelical voters, a further sign of Moore’s political potential. Indeed, a poll from January of last year showed Moore leading Alabama's incumbent Republican Gov. Bob Riley, who had been wounded politically from his failed $1.2 billion tax increase of 2003.

Moore, a fellow Republican who believes that God is the sovereign source of America’s laws and government, will face Riley in the gubernatorial primary on June 6. Yet, in what seems to be one the biggest political reversals in recent memory, Moore is trailing Riley in the polls by nearly 50 points.

You can check out the articles from Maine I have posted if you click on my name. It will take you to my newsvine page where I have seeded articles from my local paper. I have come to the impression, sadly, our Governor has some kind of personality disorder, as he goes out of his way to anger people. Unfortunately, I also believe he is being used by the corporations to do their bidding.

A co-worker was teasing me earlier today because I let it slip that I've been known to watch "Dancing With the Stars". "You mean that show is still on?" he asked. "The one with all the D-list celebrities? Didn't that show jump the shark a long time ago?" This, of course, from a guy who listens to sports talk radio 24/7.....

But it got me thinking about the similarities between DWTS and the current plethora of GOP candidates. A bunch of has-beens that never were. People who know they have zero chance of winning but can't resist the limelight even if they make fools of themselves in front of a national audience. Trying to conceal a lack of talent with a lot of flash and glitter. All those tricky new steps to learn (one, two, form a committee, three, four, announce a website, five six, no, wait, it's a book tour, seven, eight......damn, I forgot where I was again). And with names like Trump and Bachmann as contestants, then yep - they've officially jumped the shark.

Then it came to me - the GOP circus is just a reality show without a title. So here are some possibilities for your consideration:

Stumping With the "Stars"
Americans Idle (do any of these people actually do anything for a living?)
Extreme-Right Makeover: GOP Edition
So You Think You Can Lead
America's Got Talent (So why aren't any of them running?)
Are You Even Smarter Than A Third Grader?
Jersey - Sure (sure to go blue, that is)
Presidential Apprentice
The Biggest Losers
Antique Roadshow
The Deadliest Catchphrase
The Not So Amazing Race

The lines are now open. Limit ten votes per phone line. Or you can text the words "No Way" to "2012" (standard text messaging rates will apply).

Not that it matters. Because the winner will be the same one as back in 2008.

Survivor: White House.

Hi Amy,

I heard Maine’s Governor Paul LePage who ordered a 36-foot Mural depicting the state’s labor history endorsing pro-labor icons, be removed from the lobby of the Department of Labor headquarters building in Augusta, Maine.

Gosh, I hope he gets recalled.

Anna Molly - Thanks, maybe I will. I'm still trying to work "Ice Road Truckers" in there somehow. And still be printable.

Job1 - Amy's done a great job of keeping us informed on not just that story, but a number of other moves by Governor LePage. By the way, here's an update:

"AUGUSTA — Last week a spokesman for Gov. Paul LePage said the disputed mural at the state Department of Labor would remain there until the administration found a new home.

Apparently the administration has had a change of heart.

The 36-foot mural depicting historical moments in Maine's work history has been removed from the lobby in the Labor Department.

Adam Fisher, a spokesman for the department, said this morning that the mural was removed over the weekend. He referred all additional questions to the Governor's Office.

Last Friday about 250 artists and union workers held a rally at the Labor Department to contest the mural's planned relocation to Portland City Hall. Robert Shetterly, an artist from Brooksville, said his group would mobilize again and urged the Portland City Council to vote against accepting the 11-panel art piece.....

.....Shetterly called the governor's decision to remove the mural "under the cover of darkness" a "sneaky and cowardly" move.

"If he's so right about why these images should be taken down ... why not do it in the light of day?" Shetterly said.

He said the governor's move would fail if it was designed to pre-empt the protests Shetterly alluded to last week. He predicted the resistance would be more vociferous now.

"The response will be overwhelming," Shetterly said. "Whether it's the NAACP, women, workers or artists, the governor has systematically disrespected all of these people. He seems to be working through each group, one at a time."

He added, "This is a crucial moment for the citizens of this state. I, frankly, can't allow this to happen."

Judy Taylor, the artist who made the mural, said she has no idea where the mural is being kept. Taylor said the governor's office had not contacted her since news broke that the governor planned to remove the 11-panel piece."

Me, too. The irony being that the money was already spent, and to replace it with anything will only spend more money that the state claims not to have.

I think Maine should replace that mural with the Ten Commandments. Seems only appropriate, as republicans may be about to reinstitute the six-day workweek. No more overtime. Back to the sweatshops.

And I think the governor, having made a personal decision to remove the mural, should pay personally for its removal and return it to the artist. Otherwise, it makes NO fiscal sense.

Well, I guess it IS a republican idea, after all. No one really expects ideological dogma to make fiscal sense.

Religion is not something you should wear on your sleeve, especially in government. People should live their lives without these idiots constantly judging them. It is not for them to judge anybody. They are not messengers; they do not have an email connection with the Almighty.

Who was leading the way holding the lantern to help see his political mistakes. "Bitchy Bachmann" was trying to read the burial map however, she could not pronounce some of the words. No one from the South will be President in 2012. Maybe 2016 if Americans have a brain fart. But I doubt that also. East, Upper Midwest and Western states produce Presidents who know how to tackle a large budget and also pay more money to the government than they take which means that unlike the most of the Midwest and South, they don't rely on the government teet to make ends meet. They contribute to our nations safety with money to help arm our troops, as well as the personal contribution of their citizens in the armed forces. They contribute to keep our National Parks beautiful and our roads and bridges useable, and our ports of entry safe and deter illegal imports. They do much more than I can think of with that surplus from responsible states that pay enough wages and collect enough state taxes to make ends meet without the government teet. I repeat, No one from Alabama or Mississippi or Utah will become President.

I realize that Bush, who couldn't save a dime, came from Texas, a self sufficient state. And Clinton, who left office with a surplus, came from Arkansas. Arkansas being another state relying on the government teet. So obviously there are exceptions to the above but Clinton is the only successful exception I know of. If facts exist proving me wrong please post your source. Make sure it is credible not political.

A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But
it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates
is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner
            openly.

But the traitor moves among those within the gate freely, his
sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the
            very halls of government itself.

For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents
familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their
arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the
            hearts of all men.

He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown
in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects
the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer
            is less to fear.
