Congress: Still no agreement on spending

“Lawmakers return to Washington this week with the threat of a government shutdown revived because staff-level talks on a long-term spending bill have made little headway,” Roll Call writes.

The Wall Street Journal: “The White House and Democratic lawmakers … are assembling a proposal for roughly $20 billion in additional spending cuts that could soon be offered to Republicans, according to people close to the budget talks. That would come on top of $10 billion in cuts that Congress has already enacted and would represent a deeper reduction than the Obama administration and Senate Democrats had offered previously in negotiations. But it isn't clear that would be enough to satisfy Republicans.”

“A significant new White House proposal -- appearing to double the $11 billion offer on the table -- was being reviewed by Senate Democrats over the weekend in hopes that an agreement can still be reached with Boehner on a top-line number,” Politico adds. “But the harsh rhetoric Friday night suggests GOP leaders still fear a tea party rebellion. And the continued absence of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) from the talks makes it harder to predict a final deal before the next shutdown deadline of April 8.”

Roll Call: “The White House’s effort to play catch-up with Congressional leaders on U.S. military intervention in Libya has done little to placate lawmakers who have become increasingly frustrated with President Barack Obama,”

“Sen. Chuck Schumer called on the federal government Saturday to probe the 2010 U.S. Census' finding that New York City had grown by a mere trickle,” the New York Daily News reports. "These numbers cry out for investigation," Schumer said.

“Sen. Dick Durbin’s leadership role in the Democratic Conference is a sensitive topic,” particularly with Sen. Chuck Schumer’s ascension, Roll Call writes.

With all the entitlement saber rattling the Right is doing, there will never be an agreement. They do not want to compromise because they do not know how to.

The "Gross Odd People" (GOP), and the "Not Really Competent" (GOP) hve no intention of compromising with the Democrats. They have had their political axes out from the first day President Obama took offkce. The GOP/RNC have always been in favor of economic polices that promote the greed of the rich. The idea of the GOP/RNC acting economically fair to all in our society is not going to happen. The elderly, the very young, and the disabled are going to pay a high price for any economic GOP success. The GOP is only going after the programs that effect middel class, while the rich get another free pass. The very rich, corporations, and the Wall Street Bankers will pay less in taxes while making huge profits. This truely at the core of this huge budget debate going on. The "Nazi News Network." AKA. Fox News. Will distort and manipulate the facts to support the economic greed of the GOP/RNC. The "spewing" of economic misinformation and social madness will be propelled be the "Political Punks" of the GOP. The President is aware of this however, he needs to watch the GOP vultures from above. As the President moves into the budget debate the GOP vipers will be nipping at his political heels. The bottom line is simple. The President will so what it takes to succeed economically, move forward politically, and continue to seek fairness socially for all citizens.

it is the president who is on the chop block and not the budget or the deficit. come on people and wake up. the republican agenda is to stop anything from being completed in government and at the same time turn the citizens in this country against each other. republicans are responsible for the budget deficit. republicans are responsible for the wars, and by the way this country is not broke and will never be broke. stop listening to the Nazi matra and start doing some rresearch on your own.

Diane Las Vegas Congress could help the deficit by a Vote to REPEAL THE 2 YEAR EXTENSION OF THE BUSH TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH, ( which by the way was NEVER PAID FOR) But the Republicans call that a TAX INCREASE ON THE RICH????? But they have the Middle Class cut their salaries, pay more into their Pensions, pay more for Health Care. And they call this a DEFICIT CUT. They also are going to stop rights to Bargin. To me that is a TAX INCREASE ON THE MIDDLE CLASS. I called a Congressman's Office and complained about this and was told those Congressman worked hard for their money. I HAVE NEWS FOR THEM TRY AND GET A REAL JOB, NOT SITTING AT YOUR DESK COUNTING YOUR MONEY. ( To those of you in Congress that do your work, I Thank You all.) Our Congress has Corporate America running this Country and that is a disgrace. And it is time the Freshman Congressman stop living in their offices at night on the backs of the Middle Class. FIND A PLACE TO LIVE. PAY FOR YOUR OWN WAY. THE MIDDLE CLASS IS TIRED OF PAYING FOR EVERTHING. I ASK ONCE AGAIN TO REPEAL THE 2 YEAR EXTENSION OF THE BUSH TAX CUT FOR THE RICH.

The "Gross Odd People" (GOP), and the "Really Not Competent" (RNC) have had no new thinking abilities for the last 30 years. The lowering of taxes for the very rich is not new. Extending the "Brainless Bush" tax cuts is not new thinking. Cutting support programs for the working middle class, the elderly, and the disabled are not new ideas. Cutting the benefits for our military men and women is not a new policy of economic thinking. Not the "Super Spewers" of the Tea Begger Party like to use the same tea bag, and call it a different tasting pot of tea. Their message is a smelly tea bag of social injustice, political puking, economic tax cuts for the rich. The GOP "Super Spewers" are going to gauged of what they say using the all new Barf Meter. The more they spew the higher their score on the Barf Meter. Now "Nutty Newt" on a scale of 1 meter to 10 meters on the Barf Meter has scored a 9. Way to go Nutty! The" Barbarian Barbour" scores an 8 on the Barf Meter. Nice try you old barbarian. "Bitchy Bachmann" is truely the winner on the Barf Meter. She scored a 10! Way to go "Super Spewer!!" Past performers on the Barf Meter are as follows. "Puppet Palin" with a score of 8, and "Insane McCain" with a score of 9. Tonight at the "Nazis News Network." AKA. Fox News. The Barf Meter will be on high, and the contestants will be spewing for distance and lack of information. Remember to duck while speaking tonight Mr. President. The GOP "Super Spewers" will be jetison barfing all over themselves.
