Obama seen as 'cautious and consultative'

From NBC's Kevin Hurd
Almost half -- 48% -- labeled Obama as a "cautious and consultative" commander-in-chief, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll.

Highlighting the partisan split in the country, another 36%, however, called him "indecisive and dithering."

Just 17% called him "strong and decisive."

A little more than one-third of Americans see President Obama as an "indecisive and dithering" commander-in-chief.

The new poll of 975 people asked respondents to describe the president's leadership style as Commander-In-Chief.

It also gauges how the public feels about U.S. involvement in Libya.

Julia Clark, IPSOS Public Affairs Director, tells Reuters, "the data suggest he is perceived to be more consultative in his approach, which may distinguish him in the minds of the American public from his predecessor, George W. Bush, who was not perceived to be.

On U.S. involvement in Libya, 60% said they "support the United States and its allies bombing Libya to impose a no-fly zone to protect civilians from Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi's forces." Another 40% said they are opposed.

In the poll, 79% said they would support the U.S. and its allies trying to remove Khaddafy. A small minority support deploying grounds troops -- only seven percent said they would support that idea.

A little more than one-third of Americans see President Obama as an "indecisive and dithering" commander-in-chief.

Now there is a comment I can buy into: dithering commander-in-chief.

Please don't lump all Californians into one pot. I try not to do the same with Kentuckians. Regarding Daffy Duck being targeted: Reagan did and was almost successful. I approved of that since he killed all those Americans in that Disco at the time and later also that airplane over Scottland had his signature. So I do need to give credit to a Republican, from California by the way, Reagan for trying to do the right thing even though he failed. I hope Obama has more luck even though I don't think he stomachs an assassination attempt, I think lots of other nations do.

Spanky....

I didn't disappear, I had to do some work... I sneak in here to comment every 2hrs or so... but I'm starting to become a volume commenter nowadays - I need to quit it. Can't continue that once medical school starts in June.

2000-2007 were good fiscally? that's gotta be a joke right? Bush financed his wars on a bubble economy. that means the economy and money the government thought they had was not really there. And surplus turned into deficits...also when government and wall street realized everyone was living on a bubble economy... the footing fell off. Whether you like it or not, this was Greenspan and Bush's mess - it was their Agenda to increase home ownership. I can give you sources... from free republic dot com/focus/f-news/2084267/posts

The President set a goal to increase the number of minority homeowners by 5.5 million families by the end of the decade. Through his homeownership challenge, the President called on the private sector to help in this effort. More than two dozen companies and organizations have made commitments to increase minority homeownership - including pledges to provide more than $1.1 trillion in mortgage purchases for minority homebuyers this decade.

President Bush signed the $200 million-per-year American Dream Downpayment Act which will help approximately 40,000 families each year with their downpayment and closing costs.

The Administration proposed the Zero-Downpayment Initiative to allow the Federal Housing Administration to insure mortgages for first-time homebuyers without a downpayment. Projections indicate this could generate over 150,000 new homeowners in the first year alone.

President Bush proposed a new Single Family Affordable Housing Tax Credit to increase the supply of affordable homes.

The President has proposed to more than double funding for the Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program (SHOP), where government and non-profit organizations work closely together to increase homeownership opportunities.

The President proposed $2.7 billion in USDA home loan guarantees to support rural homeownership and $1.1 billion in direct loans for low-income borrowers unable to secure a mortgage through a conventional lender. These loans are expected to provide 42,800 homeownership opportunities to rural families across America.

All government did was regulate it..... I wish they took it over.... that 1/6 of the economy was growing to become 1/2 of the economy by 2020 (at the rate Health care cost was going - hopefully HCR will curb that rate, but even I as a democrat is skeptical about it).
Afterall, health insurance watered the bill down to a point where it will have minimal impact and probably wont cost as much as originally projected.

This exercise in failure in Libya by Obama is not unexpected. We knew who Obama was when he was elected. A man with no record of achievement, other than winning elections. A man with an abstract message, but no concrete plan. A man that felt noble in voting "Present". A fence sitter. A man that looked to be contemplative and wise, but deep down is just dazed and confused. We see the result. A reluctant cowboy mentality, where Obama tries to look the part, but a man that causes more problems, and more endangerment to the Middle-East region because of his indecisiveness.

Obama got rolled again, this time by Hillary. The Reluctant Warrior, the Passivist, Obama, wanted no part of Libya, but he is so indecisive, he lets others make the decisions for him. With Hillary's prodding of Obama, he turned on himself so fast it's a wonder he didn't get whiplash.

So we see what "cautious and consultative" gets you. More bloodshed, more instability, more problems, and now a weak President that is weakened even further by his own indecision. Nobody will count on Obama any more. He's too erratic, to easily led by subordinates, he can't be dependent on to make any decision, let alone the right one.

In the weeks just prior to our actions in Libya there was plenty of Diplomacy. Getting the U.N. Security Council to approve any action is a minor miracle. Not only was there Diplomacy abroad, but within the U.S., the Senate was persuaded to pass a Non Binding Resolution in support of a No Fly Zone. Just because the negotiations with NATO had not finished does not mean that they were not diplomatically engaged. The determination was made that action had to be taken and the paperwork would have to follow is all.

And yes, I do Like Tomahawks to help remove obstacles. War is a continuation of Diplomacy by other means (To Paraphrase Zhou Enlai)

So, do they want the US to place boots on the ground to protect them? Have us fight their war for them? From the expenditures of weapons already committed, have we accomplished anything if Leader Q. wins his battle against the rebels?

And tomorrow is the 100th Anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire. A fire that happened right in the middle of the city of New York.

NYT 3/11/11: Some 400,000 New Yorkers turned out in pouring rain for the funeral procession in 1911. The names of all those who died were not known until Michael Hirsch was able to identify the last six Triangle fire victims by poring over old ethnic newspapers and public records.

"Bertha Kulla — I finally found her family this year," Hirsch says. "She's actually a Shirtwaist striker. She was arrested on the picket line... Usually, when you see accounts of this, there are no faces attached to it. They're a number — immigrant workers, 146 immigrants. This gives them back their identity."

          ***************************

Per NPR: On Friday afternoon, church bells will ring at the time the fire broke out and for the first time the names of all 146 victims will be read in front of the building that once housed the Triangle Shirtwaist factory.

Such is the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. His path to that address was designed, not ordained. Not a random meteor strike, but a sniper's bullet. He plotted his moves well in advance, and like a Russian chess master knew how many moves it would require to attain checkmate. Obama thinks.

His path to 1600 was bought and paid for by the unions and George Soros. He can't make a decision period

Dithering....perfect word for Prez Obama. That is exactly what Obama does on many issues. We are suffering here in America with a poor economy and Obama does nothing. We had no business going into Libya.

“[§338-17.8] Certificates for children born out of State.
                (a) Upon application of an adult or the legal parents of a minor child, the director of health shall issue a birth certificate for such adult or minor, provided that proof has been submitted to the director of health that the legal parents of such individual while living without the Territory or State of Hawaii had declared the Territory or State of Hawaii as their legal residence for at least one year immediately preceding the birth or adoption of such child.
                (b) Proof of legal residency shall be submitted to the director of health in any manner that the director shall deem appropriate. The director of health may also adopt any rules pursuant to chapter 91 that he or she may deem necessary or proper to prevent fraudulent applications for birth certificates and to require any further information or proof of events necessary for completion of a birth certificate.
                (c) The fee for each application for registration shall be established by rule adopted pursuant to chapter 91. [L 1982, c 182, §1]”

                Everybody get that?

As long as an adult can walk into Hawaii’s version of the Department of Records and provide proof that they are a legal resident of Hawaii, the document is issued.

The child, on the other hand, could have been born in Hawaii, Kenya, or a back-alley in Budapest.

I'm not saying he wasn't born here, I'm saying if he was born here, he has a legal Birth Certificate, not just that Certificate of Live Birth we've all been shown numerous times! Why are they afraid to show it?
