Barbour: 2010 election 'most massive repudiation' in history

From NBC’s Catherine Chomiak
Mississippi governor potential Republican presidential candidate, Haley Barbour, said today in Nevada it would take a “campaign that is about policy” to defeat President Obama in 2012.

“The 2010 campaign was the most massive repudiation of any administration’s policies in American history,” he said in a brief interview with NBC affiliate KNVR. “The American people know all that spending, wanting to raising tax, after tax, after tax, exploding deficits, gargantuan debt, a health care bill that is going to drive up the cost of health care and an energy policy that’s hurting the economy. That all of those things made it harder to have economic growth and job creation.”

Barbour is in Nevada today to meet with Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval (R) and other Republican lawmakers. He acknowledged that Nevada is an important early primary state as well as a critical swing state in the general election. Barbour also reiterated that his final decision, whether to run or not, wouldn’t come until the end of April.

Haley's onto something here.

51 incumbent House Democrats lost their seats as a result of last November's midterm elections.

When was the last time that many House incumbents of one party, or even both parties combined...lost their seats in a midterm election?

Anyone?

Anyone at all?

I believe 1994 the same thing happened in the same fashion. Fast forward almost 20 years of republican congressional control and we are trillions in debt, in 2 wars (a possible third), a banking collapse due to deregulation and several recessions (one of which rivals the great depression).

Quite fiscally responsible arentcha?

    #1.2 - Wed Mar 23, 2011 7:06 AM EDT

    Actually, the 2008 election was a Massive Repudiation of the Republican Agenda, the 2010 election was a MINORITY Backlash, and NOT a "Massive repudiation". The Repubs only gained seats because it was a midterm election and a lot of folks did not turn out.

    If they want to see a TRUE Massive Repudation, wait for the 2012 election and if the Repubs keep working to destroy America, they will lose in such a big way that they will NEVER recover.

    The people in office were elected to GOVERN, NOT to Dictate. Governors like Pinkerton Walker are acting like dictators of foreign nations, breaking laws to pass their measures against what The People expect of them. If they keep giving tax breaks to Corporations and then cry that they are out of money, they need to be brought to court on charges of fraud, bait and switch and outright treason against their electorate as they are pushing an agenda of culture war against the poor and middle class while rewarding those who gave to their campaign funds...is this bribery and payoff?? If so, where is the Justice Department??

    Mike-416-

    I usually look to the Obama Administration for clues as to the appropriate stance on fiscal responsibility.

    In January, the Obama Administration offered up it's new FY 2012 budget; it proposes $3.7 trillion in total spending. Of that $3.7 trillion, $1.1 trillion is deficit spending, nearly 30% of the total.

    Along with the spending proposal for the new fiscal year beginning in October, the Obama Administration issued a 10-year projection with numbers on spending and debt. The Administration suggested that $13 trillion in new gross debt will be added to the $14 trillion currently on the books...for all intents and purposes, a doubling of U.S. debt in the next 10 years.

    Interest on debt payments will rise to $844 billion annually by the end of the projection period...nearly $1 trillion annually diverted from total federal government revenue simply to service U.S. debt.

    Does all of that sound "fiscally responsible" to you, Mike?

      Like that Pat? How about this - which 2006 policy has been repudiated:

      1. tax "cuts";

      2. drone strikes;

      3. Iraq war;

      4. Afghanistan war;

      5. Starting additional wars against muslims;

      6. Drilling for oil

      No doubt, the Democrats should have focused on jobs. However, health care reform was a major theme of the election in 2008. As such, the President had to put some focus on it. If the Republican party had joined in the creation of the act, it may have turned into a better bill. It would also have been completed sooner. Now the Republicans in the House are going to spend the next two years proposing legislation designed to take things away from the poor, women, middle class and give things to the wealthy, which legislation will die automatically in the Senate.

      I wish someone would tell the Republicans that the election was about Jobs and would they please get to helping Americans get back to work.

      OK, Halley- where are your speaker of the houses' plans for those jobs. Inquiring minds want to know. And they are getting restless. And another election is sneaking up on us.

      Oh, and that part about "wanting to raising tax, after tax, after tax..." Who you think you are, Sean Hannity? That's HIS schitck, bro' boss hogg. If I remember right, Obama continued the really big tax break.

      Well, Republicans see the election as a repudication of the President and his policies. Democrats see the election as a statement about frustration on the economy, combined with the historical losses that occur in midterm elections. Each side can cite polls in support. I know that the election results will motivate the Democrats in 2012; can't speak for the Republicans. I guess the 2012 elections will tell us which side is correct.

      Hey Steeler Fan - what did Ed Schultz ask that the election in 2010 be? Remember when he asked all his viewers to stay away from the polls to send a message tot he dems that they were sucking?

      Ed sought repudiation from the dems of their failures. he got it, it would seem.

      And Drive By - it seems like it was a referendum on war, as in more of it. More republicans. They seem to like war. And more Obama, cause he seems to like war a whole lot too.

      Or maybe their plan is to create a bunch of new jobs in the munitions fields. How many people are employed building drones and tomahawk missiles?

        The Title of this Article Is: Governor Barbour Governs the Poorest State, Lives Like A King

        Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour likes to mix business with pleasure, and uses a sleek state plane to shuttle around the nation for events only loosely connected to official state business, according to an investigation by Politico.

        Critics say the flights suggest that Barbour has continued to live the lifestyle of a highflying lobbyist as he's slashed his state's budget for government services across the board since taking office in 2004.

        Barbour's office defended his travel schedule, saying the state has benefited from his ability to bring in federal dollars.

        But the Politico investigation finds that trips taken on the taxpayer dime often had only vague connections to state business. One example is a trip to Las Vegas, which Barbour said was for a "project meeting" but which for a mere $5,000 gave donors to Barbour's state political action committee the chance to race a stock car around the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and sip a cocktail with casino mogul Steve Wynn.

        ______________

        And according to this -

        Broken down by state, Mississippi had the highest share of poor people, at 23.1 percent, according to rough calculations by the Census Bureau in 2010. The median annual income is around $36,000 and 18 percent of its population has no health insurance.

          Come 2012 we may see another massive repudiation. Even now as they focus on such important issues as making "In God we trust" our official national slogan, redefining rape, focusing on abortion while doing nothing about jobs ---- the public is realizing that Republicans have NO plans to actually fix anything. They have NO answers. All they have is empty slogans.

          The Republican vision for the U.S. is to remake our nation in the image of Iraq, Haiti or Somalia: no democracy, no regulations, no Unions, feudalism, no rules for corporations and the wealthy. Republicans like dictators; "Just as long as I'm the dictator" as once quipped Bush the younger.

          The Repubs have drastically over-reached! People I know that were considering sitting out the election are now ready to charge out the door to walk neighborhoods and stump for Democrats. The events in Wisconsin, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio and Indiana are galvanizing Progressives to get off the couch and fight. Repubs have tipped their hand and intend to fight Democrats with the biggest field of clowns since Ringling Bros. The Repubs are going to be blown out of the saddle. Nolo Contendre. That is one for Anna Molly.

Now--First Read--don't know if you take anything from the post streams BUT I would like to suggest that you give a state by state rundown of benefits being cut for poor and middle class citizens and public sector jobs being scuttled so tax breaks can be given to private sector fatcats ala Indiana, New Jersey, Michigan etc. Having this all in one place would be so beneficial for the voters and shut up some of the hair-on-fire crowd.

Have you not seen the recall elections beginning. No, the GOP and their policies just reminded the American public why they hate them. And it is getting worse for them. The GOP may have Wall Street with them, but they won't have the American public. No, the GOP will lose many of their gains, and Obama will be President for another term and Congress will flip back, and to make things worse for them, they will also lose their gains in the states, probably before we get to 2012. What a gift for the Dems.!!!!

                              25% of the Electorate voted in November 2010. Hardly a "massive repudiation".

                              I live in MS This good old boy keeps his friends hooked up with work and makes us pay for it in tax's and in every way he can get a dime out of the state Yes he does bring in the money but it goes to his pals by reworking a airport that only a few use a yr. And he sure made a good deal from the storms that hit us. He gives tax breaks to the business but we pay for it in the long way no union to stand up for us little guys He keeps saying jobs, we need to bring back morales to the state Did you know when we was hurting during Katerina they passed a law No sex toys to be sold the state of Ms instead of helping us when we couldn't get gas or water they was passing laws to make sure we did what they thought we should act like But you can still buy a can of beer in a brown bag as you leave the gas station. But they get you for a joint or anything they think is a joint you have to prove its not (Out of your pocket)it all goes to the state. Thats how they get money from us You go striate to jail they call it no tolerance of drugs of any kind then you have to pay the the toll fee and the bond mans lawyer etc. then court cost then if your lucky you after 5000.00 or more you may get to keep your job at 36000 a yrs. thats the way Ms works. Its all a good old boys network. and our Governor wants to do this every place in the USA to bring back what he thinks we should be as far as morales goes Is this the kind of person you want in the white house. He wants to keep what he thinks of poor trash people down so he does it with the law and he can say hes doing his job whats best for the state. I don't want the Republicans telling me what i should be doing and passing a law to make sure i do what they want Its no ones business what i do in my home How about you do you want the government telling you what you can do and can't do in your own home?

                              What is the most deceitful LIE being told to America each and every day by the Obama administration, MSNBC, and progressive liberals ????

                              As usual.... it has to do with MONEY !!!..... (any guesses yet ???)

                              When Obama, MSNBC, and other progressive liberals begin losing their money flow (the source blood of their existence).... they begin to wither away on the vine.... screaming "help me !, help me !" ...and die.... (similar to the wicked witch on the Wizard of Oz after Dorothy threw a pail of water on her)....

                              And.... what is the source of their money flow ???.....Yep, you guessed it....more and more TAXES....from you and me !!!!.....

                              Which brings us back to the original point.... MSNBC and Obama's most deceitful LIE !!!.... told to us each and EVERY DAY !!!

                              The deceitful LIE ???.....

                              THAT THOSE "RICH", MEAN 'OL BIG BUSINESSESS AND CORPORATIONS DON'T PAY ENOUGH TAXES.... AND THAT FORCING THESE BIG BUSINESSES AND CORPORATIONS TO PAY MUCH HIGHER TAXES WOULD TAKE THE BURDEN OFF THE AVERAGE, WORKING-CLASS AMERICAN.

                              So, each and every day.... MSNBC publicly demands that these big corporations pay more taxes !!!!.... because WE, here at MSNBC "ARE SUPPORTING THE WORKING MAN !!!".... and WE here at MSNBC demand that YOU HATE THESE MEAN 'OL BIG BUSINESSES, TOO, AMERICA !!!

                              And what are the honest facts ????..... as most Americans know... (which makes MSNBC even more meaninless than ever)....

                              Typically, taxes paid by those mean 'ol, rich businesses and corporations are INCLUDED IN THE PRICE OF ALL CONSUMER GOODS..... and, who pays the higher taxes forced on businessess ???..... Yep, you guessed it..... THE CONSUMER !!!

                              So, the deceitful LIE being told to America by Obama and MSNBC each and every day is that....

                              Obama and MSNBC demand to raise the taxes of consumers.... YOU AND ME.... under their hidden disguise that they are trying to protect the "WORKING MEN AND WOMEN" of America by "sticking it to" those mean 'ol big businesses and corporations.....

                              No wonder America completely rejects the endless LIES, DECEIT, and HATRED spewed daily by Obama and MSNBC.

                                After Carter there was not another liberal president for a generation. That is the ONLY silver lining to Obama's tenure. He is a 1-term skippy and probably the last black president ever!

                                  and what do the repubs have to put up against this President, Steve? Go on Haley and run, it'll be good for the economy by spending all you donors money in lying advertising for all those employees behind the scene; ask the Meg Whitman about that. Haley can continue with the talking points about repudiation of the President policies, but when you saw the ads they did not even state his policy, just repeal HCR. That was a joke and the repubs knew it, but they also knew their voters would believe that lie too. Now some newly elected republican governors are in power and overreaching with the draconian cuts that will effect everyone, not just the dems. And they are going to raise your taxes while given tax cuts to businesses cause they think this will create jobs. So do you really think Steve and Haley that the American people will not see that they were told lies from the November election and not make you pay for them? Where are the jobs Boehner? What have you been working on these last three months in power Boehner?
