Pelosi hospitalized in Rome; colleague reports 'she's in good shape' now

AP

FILE - In this Feb. 2011 file photo House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of Calif., speaks on Capitol Hill. An Italian news agency says that Pelosi was hospitalized briefly in Rome with a minor ailment.

From NBC's Luke Russert
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was hospitalized during a trip to Rome after feeling ill, NBC News confirms.

UPDATE: A spokesman for Pelosi says the Democratic leader is now resuming her schedule. His statement:

"After several flights yesterday in Afghanistan, and a long flight back to Italy that arrived early this morning, Leader Pelosi was not feeling well.  This morning in Rome, the Leader was advised to visit a clinic, and the closest medical facility was a hospital.  The Leader is now resuming her schedule in Italy."

Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ), a member of the delegation traveling with Pelosi, told NBC News from Italy earlier Monday that the House Minority Leader underwent “a few tests” but is "in good shape."

"She's at the hotel now,” Pascrell told NBC News. “She's fine, she's in good shape. Just a few tests to make sure she was all right."

Pascrell and Pelosi were traveling with a bipartisan delegation in Afghanistan before the stop in Italy.

"We had a strenuous few days in Afghanistan, but it was the most productive trip I've ever been on as a member of Congress,” Pascrell said.

Pelosi was in Italy to mark the 150thanniversary of Italian unification. News agency AFP reports that Pelosi canceled two meetings with officials due to her illness.

Amazing health care in Rome if they can cure mental illness that quickly...........

Wanna bet if it was serious she would rush back to the"horrible health care" we have in America rather than use the "Free" system in Rome. What a sad thing, I hope her Botox will be okay (for the left looking for it). Don't want to disappoint.

You can quit all the guessing and wondering etc, AP just reported through an annonymous source it was a morality transplant. She couldn't get it done in Washington because there were no donors available and Rome was her only option at the time....the trip, it was just a cover. She is in post surgery now but it doens;t look like the transplant has been successful, her body is fighting it.

How very convenient for the right wingers on this blog to ignore the fact, the reality, that the trip to Rome was created, scheduled and planned entirely by Republicans. It was a CONGRESSIONAL delegation which means it was planned and put together entirely by the majority party which in case you missed the last election is the REPUBLICAN party. So stop your ignorant ravings about lefties wasting time and money and call it what it is - a Republican junket on which they had to bring a few Democrats on for political cover.

The loonie hate mongering of the fear and loathing right is so typical....just like Michelle Bachman, Rush Limbaugh and that Eva Braun woman (Ann Coulter I think is her name?) all of whom said publicly in mocking and condescending tones that Elizabeth Edwards had faked her disease to get sympathy, based on their idiotic ranting about feminist shrews --- a public stance the Republican hate wing kept up right until she died at which point they all expressed sympathy and denied they had indulged their sophmoric lies and spewing of hate speech. So typical, so Republican.

Yeah, and calling Coulter Eva Braun is not hate mongering on your part. Comparing Coulter to Hitlers mistress is not hate mongering. I am no Coulter fan, but you are a typical hypocritical liberal.

LuvamericaToo, it doesn't make a dam*n bit of difference who planned the trip or whether there is one more republican than democracts or vice versa, we do not need to be sending senators/congressmen overseas to foreign countries. These people were elected by US citizens, well I should say U S Voters becasue let's face it, we have plenty of illegals voting, but I digress, and as being charged with representing voters in the US they need to stay here and do their job. We have a state department to handle foreign affairs, such as it is. Here's an idea, lets require them to publish, on a website run by some impartial watchdog group, their itinery, the cost thereof, who they're taking with them, the purpose of the trip and then what was accomplished and how it benefitted the US citizen and taxpayor. If the cost/benefit of the trip is askew and turns out to be a waste, then they reimburse the taxpayer for any loss of benefit.

Willie, ObamaCare can't help her, she is over the age limit for treatment. Please refer to the age/benefit chart on page 18,793, 6th paragraph subsection a, unit 3.1.6, right under where it says we are all screwed.

No, Pam - I think Obama has already taken more vacations in 2 years than W did in 8.

Bush never came off of vacation he was placed into office illegally by the Supreme Court of in Justice (With a Huge Surplus and Jobs everywhere) and remained there until (He and republican policies drove the economy into a ditch gave Huge Tax Kick back to The Rich AKA Bush Tax cuts and killed the Middle Class = Republicans view of progress) then he left office before they tossed his on his ear.

Probably a case of good old fashion diarrhea, also known as “The Back Door Trot,” “Rocky Mountain Quick Step,” or “Splatter Fanny.” Leader Pelosi surely must know and realize that it is 2011, and she should never travel to any foreign country, without her bottle of PINK. That being Pepto-Bismol®.

Give it up, your posts are ALWAYS liberally biased and just looking at the ones here, you do not have the courage (guts) to acknowledge your hate of the right or for that matter anyone who does not blindly agree with what ever you say.  I have the balls to state that I think the liberal zealots are ruining this country and that I am a proud Patriot who is a conservative.  And all done without name-calling.

To be perfectly honest, Nancy Pelosi has never really represented the people of this country. Everything she has done has had an ulterior motive that would benefit either her own ambitions, or her husbands financial activities. Saying that, I personally think the majority of politicians, at the national level, so far removed from the watchful eyes of John and Jane Q. Public, are as crooked as a barrel of snakes.

And before someone jumps up to defend her, remember her husband's fish factories in San Francisco and that area. She got into politics to benefit her family businesses, as most of thes politicians do, not the people that elected her to represent their interests. She is as much a capitalist as any banker or corporate, greedy no-good. It's just that she has a broader base of people believing the sun rises and sets over her. I wonder how much the family pays for salary for Documented LEGAL immigrant employees.

I hope she does get better, she is needed for this whole Libya operation we have going. I overheard some of the military brass at lunch today talking about it. Apparantly the plan is to have the CIA take out Kadaffi and insert Pelosi as their leader, since the resemblance is uncanny and therefore the Kaddafi supporters would never notice. She would then run the Libya into the ground as she here by forcing all these liberal ideas on the citizens and we all win. SSHHHH...keep this under your hat because I think this is pretty much top secret.

I wish her no ill will, but I do wish she would retire. She is to O-L-D and she is, most definitely, circling the wrong airport.
