Pelosi hospitalized in Rome; colleague reports 'she's in good shape' now

FILE - In this Feb. 2011 file photo House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of Calif., speaks on Capitol Hill. An Italian news agency says that Pelosi was hospitalized briefly in Rome with a minor ailment.

From NBC's Luke Russert
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was hospitalized during a trip to Rome after feeling ill, NBC News confirms.

UPDATE: A spokesman for Pelosi says the Democratic leader is now resuming her schedule. His statement:

"After several flights yesterday in Afghanistan, and a long flight back to Italy that arrived early this morning, Leader Pelosi was not feeling well.  This morning in Rome, the Leader was advised to visit a clinic, and the closest medical facility was a hospital.  The Leader is now resuming her schedule in Italy."

Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ), a member of the delegation traveling with Pelosi, told NBC News from Italy earlier Monday that the House Minority Leader underwent “a few tests” but is "in good shape."

"She's at the hotel now,” Pascrell told NBC News. “She's fine, she's in good shape. Just a few tests to make sure she was all right."

Pascrell and Pelosi were traveling with a bipartisan delegation in Afghanistan before the stop in Italy.

"We had a strenuous few days in Afghanistan, but it was the most productive trip I've ever been on as a member of Congress,” Pascrell said.

Pelosi was in Italy to mark the 150thanniversary of Italian unification. News agency AFP reports that Pelosi canceled two meetings with officials due to her illness.

"Fiesty".....don't feel bad......just click on MSNBC.com's coverage of Sarah Palin in Israel and read what almost 2,000 posts say from angry DEMS and LIBS just ripping Sarah Palin into pieces and where personal insults abound....you'll feel much better. Pelosi is just yesterday's news.........not a lot of following anymore......who cares......sad but true...

Hey....call me unrealistic, however I think 10,000 people in Japan (which includes, men, women and CHILDREN) who are no longer with us with possibly 20,000 more men, women and CHILDREN still missing and probably also deceased along with the thousands who are suffreing from lack of water, food and medical care are more important right now than Nancy Pelosi's tummyache.

To be fair, the jokes would be flying thick and fast from "the other side" here if Rush Limbaugh or John Boehner were hospitalized.

To all those detractors to what I said....you, good folks, are preaching to the choir. While I blast the likes of the globe-trotting duo of Pelosi and Obama as Rome burns here at home...I reserve PLENTY of blame also for both Dems AND Repubs here at home who in the midst of economic meltdown (a debt STILL not seriously dealt with)...our pathetic CONGRESS is on a 10 day hiatus.

Fear not folks...I AM an equal-opportunity accuser. I'm disgusted and fed up with the whole lot in Washington. ALL OF THEM! They, and their predecessors got us into this god-awful mess and what do they all do??? Take a freakin Taco Bell vacation!

I suggest WE all take a little mini-vacation up to Washington and clog the Capital grounds! Again I ask...what are we paying these stuffed shirts for? What is it they exactly do?

Probably waited until she got out of the country because she didn't want to use Obamacare, or be accused of not using it.

I don't care what Democrats do, there are always complaints. I can only hope I live another 20 years so I can see how history treats our President. I think he has accomplished a lot. I am disappointed by the Republicans extreme agenda. Boehner hasn't addressed jobs yet, and in fact, his agenda will lose another 700,000 jobs.

You won't have to wait 20 years to see the impact. We have a 14 trillion dollar debt and Obama has submitted adding 9.5 trillion dollars over the next ten years. Obama, better known as the captain of the Titantic, AKA Spending, is going full steam ahead taking us into deeper and deeper debt. We will all drown in this debt before 20 years pass.

You know, reading the negative comments in response to Nancy Pelosi's illness shows what's wrong with this country's politics and possibly what's wrong with the country. How sad that some find glee in the illness of others, that gleeful distain says more than anything else about this country and what it says is not pretty.

Uh, Jody, Iowa? Wasn't it Ms. Pelosi herself who used the term "astro-turf" to refer to the Tea Party? Sorry but Pelosi hasn't gotten nearly the verbal abuse she so richly deserves.

Yes, I agree Jody. Just like those e-mails from unionists in Wisc telling the governor he was a dead man and his family also. Just like all the retorts on this website that are crude, ugly, threatening, abusive. Just like the Black Panther who got a free pass from Holder & company who said all "crackers should be killed along with cracker women and babies. Yes Jody...I agree...our society is hopelessly defective.

ps; I NEVER wish anyone ill will (even if I completely disagree with their ideology.) I just got out of the hospital from a scary situation that could have gone either way. I make it a point NOT to wish bad karma on anyone because I KNOW how it can come back and bite you in the a##. PEACE

I guess, us tax payers (the 54% of us who actually pay federal income tax) are picking up the tab for all the hard work she is doing in Rome. We also pick up the tab for the interest payments on the borrowed money as well. But don't tell Obama, he doesn't count the interest as a debt.
