House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was hospitalized during a trip to Rome after feeling ill, NBC News confirms.
UPDATE: A spokesman for Pelosi says the Democratic leader is now resuming her schedule. His statement:
"After several flights yesterday in Afghanistan, and a long flight back to Italy that arrived early this morning, Leader Pelosi was not feeling well. This morning in Rome, the Leader was advised to visit a clinic, and the closest medical facility was a hospital. The Leader is now resuming her schedule in Italy."
Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ), a member of the delegation traveling with Pelosi, told NBC News from Italy earlier Monday that the House Minority Leader underwent “a few tests” but is "in good shape."
"She's at the hotel now,” Pascrell told NBC News. “She's fine, she's in good shape. Just a few tests to make sure she was all right."
Pascrell and Pelosi were traveling with a bipartisan delegation in Afghanistan before the stop in Italy.
"We had a strenuous few days in Afghanistan, but it was the most productive trip I've ever been on as a member of Congress,” Pascrell said.
Pelosi was in Italy to mark the 150thanniversary of Italian unification. News agency AFP reports that Pelosi canceled two meetings with officials due to her illness.

I cannot stomach anything 'pelosi', but I do hope she recovers well. As for her "trip", it is another waste of taxpayer's money. She and her fellow taxpayer ripoffs have no business being in Italy. The reason given is lame and wasteful. It is truly sickening to watch some overblown politician who is very rich, taking a vacation on OUR dime. And please do not even try to say that she is "working", for I know better. I work for the federal gov't and see an incredible waste of taxpayer's money every day. The amount of "travel" is horrendous and unneccesary, and the poor taxpayers are simply expected to foot the bill anyway. I am tired of being "governed" by unqualified rich people, and they are all we have because of how our "elections" are set up. If you are not rich or cannot raise millions of dollars, then you cannot become a congressional or senatorial politician. You most certainly cannot become president unless you can raise the most money. Sorry...but our politics is NOT supposed to be about money....but sadly it is. Will we ever see righteous people in office again??? Ones who will not take bribes from lobbyists, ones who will not enrich themselves at every turn??? Ones who will refuse to waste taxpayers money on frivilous trips to Italy and other vacation spots and claim it as "work"??? I think our political system is sooooooo broken, it cannot be fixed. The way it is set up now, we will never, ever have good and decent politicians in office, because they are ALL corrupted and rich and they do not want anything to change that. It is very disgusting. I wish all taxpayers could stand up and refuse to give them any more of our money, until they become our equals again. They are no better than any of us.

You should demand transparency in campaign financing. A reversal to the nightmare that is Citizens United. If not it will only get worse. Don't like it, do something about it.
