A look at The Week Ahead in politics: President Obama heads to Latin America … Might we hear a Pawlenty announcement? … Lots of Republicans hit the trail … Congress is off … and Andy "reports live" from Rio.
Here's a formal invite to the newest member of the Progressive First Read Family - Greg in Detroit!
I’m sorry to report, that our usual Friday night ‘Master of Ceremonies’ is under the weather this evening!
Not to worry - Independent Redneck is tucked safely in a nice warm feather bed over at the Come Back Inn. We’re taking good care of him with some home-made chicken noodle soup (it’s good for the soul they say ;o) and a nice ‘hot toddy’ with honey!
What an action packed week around here @ FR! Domenico & Ali you deserve to sneak out a bit early and have a drink or two! You’re always welcome to drop by the Dew Drop Inn you know?
You both did a fabulous job holding down the ‘boiler room’ in Mark’s absence!
On a more somber note, let’s not forget the Japanese people and the suffering they’re going through!
We had quite a few loyal First Readers yesterday make a matching (or above) donation in honor of the generous action by Frank ‘Grimey’ Grimes brilliant son!
In case you missed the story, his son gave him $10.00 of his allowance money to send to the Red Cross because he knew the Japanese children don’t have any toys! Grimey being the proud papa he is, wouldn’t take the money but sent the $10.00 text donation on behalf of his son!
Most of us spend that amount a day on a latte or lunch – I challenge YOU to match the giving spirit exhibited by a little boy!
It’s got to be quitting time somewhere already –now who wants to head on over to the Dew Drop Inn?
We can kick back a few cold ones and play a game of ‘Where in the world is Mark Murray?’
Sure hope we don’t see him turn up on a Deputy Political Director’s Gone WILD’ DVD!
DBO – you’re in charge of the juke box for this evening! Some Smokey Robinson’s ‘Tears of a Clown’ sounds good! We can dedicate it to the ‘Weeper of the House’! lol
Steeler Fan, Clara and the rest of the ‘hoop addicts’ are in charge of the menu & I’ll make sure the bar is well stocked & bring my famous *popcorn*!
PS: The Spanky grama's comment was PRICELESS! LMFAO!
Sorry I missed it - been a busy day. What was the "Spanky's grama's" comment?
I got a horrendous weekend and first part of the week - up in Central California chasing settlement money so could definately use a good laugh. And one thing I'm good at is laughing at myself.
You equate terrorists to the President of the United States, compare him to Hitler.
My first reflection is that you insult your own intelligence. But that is laughable.......
how does one insult something that so obviously doesn't even exist.
Your ignorance would insult Japenese Kamikaze pilots if it weren't so profound and obvious. Confused, Bev? Hint: They were uniformed, their planes were identified and they attacked military targets.
Actually, I think you are one of the usual representations of the confused on the right who lack wisdom and perception. It’s you who has no respect for anther culture; therefore, you negate depth or substance!!!
If I were you rather than morallycriticizing me, I would think your time and energy might be better spent learning more about the cultural differences in warfare. Bob, you can not reshape the purposes and limits to war. There are so many factors you are not taking into account such as religion, society, and politics when you trace back the origins of other cultures historical warfare and how they impact the real problems of today’s armed conflicts.
I would assume once you reach that intellectual development you won’t be so condescending; I think.
Learn something about the art of war. Even In the HBO television series The Sopranos, mafia boss, Tony Soprano, began reading The Art of War upon the recommendation of his psychiatrist,
If you must spend your time worrying, I would suggest you be a patriotic American and pray , if you pray, or engage in positive thinking about war with Libya, and the devastation caused by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
Also, did you not here the President's speech in Brazil? The President spoke about the promotion of peace not just in the same hemisphere we share with Brazil; but the enduring values of every human being's yearn for improvement of increased value over what has been the case. This leads to a more peaceful co-existence. These also, are the American values President George Bush abandoned with his "cowboy go it along diplomacy"
Again, we see why our President is so worthy of the ‘Novel Peace Prize”. It’s that kind of leadership which pulls the world toward becoming a better place for a human consumption.
Hey Feisty...just now got the time to jump on line for a few minutes here. THank you so much for your comments and the comments of several other posters as well as the donations on behalf of my younger boy. It really, really means a lot and just goes to show that we can all come together when needed regardless of our political persuasions. He is such a rough and tumble kid, but wow does he have a great big heart!!! And if his actions inspire people, all the better. He makes me proud every day, but he really brought a tear to my eye that day. I hope you and everyone else had a fantastic weekend!!! :-)
Feisty: well spoken as always! We must thank our hosts for their patience, wish IR a speedy recovery, and head over to the Dew Drop Inn for some basketball, the Buckeyes doing quite well at this moment. We will pass the hat for Japan, and have another moment of silence for those suffering in the aftermath of that earthquake. What oh what have we learned this week? The Republican Party, never letting up for a moment on how much they hate women, are adding to the Hyde Amendment a law that would cause the IRS to audit abortions. Can you IMAGINE that conversation? "Now, was it rape, incest or your health...and do you have a receipt?" These are the same folks OUTRAGED at that made up accusation that HCR would cause the IRS to hire extra agents for audit. Good for YOU Republicans, you keep reminding us about how much you dislike women. The Republicans didn't want to forget children, so they are also wanting to cut WIC funds and Head Start funding, and don't forget Big Bird. See, protected speech in Republican land is that which supports their continued war on the poor and the middle class...and did I mention women and children? In other words...not much has changed. We are happy to see a stay on the Walker War on the middle class. Good for ya judge! Feisty, time to watch some hoops. I am bringing some food to set up a taco bar...feeling spicy this day! Wishing you all a good weekend! See you next week.
Better make some extra - we're expecting quite a crowd tonight! Got some new members who will be joining us - Greg Detroit & Tom, Yreka... Let's give them a heartly welcome & Progressive *hugs*
Bert & Ernie get the axe but shooting illegals from helicopters is acceptable! Unbelievable!
Oh, I have made plenty of food, so glad to welcome our new friends to the Dew Drop Inn! Place will be rocking, will miss IR all the more, he does love a good party.
Good Morning NDD! I found the story on what the tea baggers are up to and wanted to share with those who may be unfamiliar with the right wingers waging war on women's reproductive health:
The GOP’s H.R. 3, or the No Taxpayer Funding For Abortions Act, is quickly racking up a number of unprecedented offenses against a woman’s right to choose. Starting with the redefinition of rape, H.R. 3 also torpedoes the GOP anti-tax pledge by changing the tax code to raise taxes on women and small businessesthat provide health insurance covering abortions. Now, as Mother Jones’s Nick Baumann reports, this tax code provision would turn the Internal Revenue Service into “abortion cops” who “investigate whether certain terminated pregnancies were the result of rape or incest.”
In the House Ways and Means Committee hearingon H.R. 3 Wednesday, the nonpartisan Joint Tax Committee’s chief of staff Thomas Barthold testifiedthat because the bill bans using tax credits or deductions to pay for abortions or insurance, a woman who used such a benefit would have to prove, if audited, that her abortion “fell under the rape/incest/life-of-the-mother exception, or that the health insurance she had purchased did not cover abortions.” Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA) asked Barthold point blank “if a woman were audited, would IRS agents be at her house demanding court documents or affidavits proving that her pregnancy was the result of rape or incest?” Barthold confirmed what former IRS official Marcus Owens told Baumann — a woman would have to give “contemporaneous written documentation” that it was “incest, or rape, or [her] life was in danger” that compelled her abortion
That would be the one, Feisty! The hypocrisy from the "get the Federal Govt off our backs" crowd is nothing short of delusional. Though maybe, they are being accurate, back is not womb after all! To make your day complete, in MN. the Republicans are trying to create a law that those on welfare cannot have more than $20 cash in their wallets at any given time, nor can they spend money out of state. Not to mention how humiliating a law like that is, and how demeaning, those on borders towns could not shop across the river! Which means only one thing...Loons don't live just at the lakes in MN, they inhabit the legislature. But, I am sure that they will go to church tomorrow, listen to stories about Jesus healing the sick and feeding the poor, and having met their religious duty...will go right back to attacking the poor!
The Republicans didn't want to forget children, so they are also wanting to cut WIC funds and Head Start funding, and don't forget Big Bird
I couldn't have said it any better for this group of miscreants. They act like a bunch of astray depraved evildoers living during the Spanish Inquisition working assiduously in search of people to torture.
Domenico---you guys are having too much fun with this!!! Another great edition of The Week Ahead--thanks for that and for all that you do to make this site so special.
For food at the Inn this weekend, in honor of the President's trip, we've hired a Brazilian carvery caterer and NewDay's taco bar and, of course, Mojito's will be icy cold.
Since 99% of you moonbats have a snout firmly in the public trough, raise a glass to your erstwhile employers, the hardworking private sector , who (what a concept) actually support themselves, as well as subsidizing the parasites......
With the events in Libya, many here at FR have been making references to Bush and Iraq. Most is the same old tired refrains along the lines of “Cowboy Bush”; “Bush sacrificed 4,400 at the altar of ideology.” etc.
What if we looked at things in general, without the Bush or Obama, Right vs. Left context, but a purely historic context?
What if I said that we have a situation where history has shown - that it is a historical fact that we had:
1. An evil dictator who had demonstrated aggressiveness by invading his neighbors on several occasions;
2. An evil dictator who had gassed his own people;
3. An evil dictator who had conducted ethnic cleansing;
4. An evil dictator who had successfully ordered an assassination on a foreign leader;
5. An evil dictator who had violated the terms of an armistice of a previous war;
6. An evil dictator who had intentionally manipulated and deceived a world organization whose sole, primary purpose was to insure peace;
7. The world agreed that this evil dictator would continue to be a threat to peace, that he would continue to develop the weapons to threaten peace.
8. The world organization could not agree to take further action. Some countries would not agree to take further action that might lead to another war and favored continued negotiations/same failed strategies.
Question 1:
A. Should some country or group of countries have tried to stop this evil dictator based on the above, only with the support of the world organization?
B. Should some country or group of countries have tried to stop this evil dictator even if the world organization refused to take action?
What if we could say that 50 years from the time of this crisis, another crisis would develop and the same criteria, the same conditions presented themselves. We know that in the first case, nothing was done and ultimately tens of millions died in a horrible war.
Question 2:
C. Should some country or group of countries have tried to stop this evil dictator based on the above, only with the support of the world organization?
D. Should some country or group of countries, at the risk of 10,000 lives, have tried to stop this evil dictator even if the world organization refused to take action?
Liberals will obviously answer A to the first question, they argue it everyday. And they fail. Question 2 is actually the same Question.
The dictator described above is not Saddam Hussein. It is Adolph Hitler. The criteria are the same, the exact same things that can be said of both - except that Saddam’s attempted assassination was not successful, Hitler’s was.
Jaysus, Feisty, talk of apropos of nothing...what is bobby on about? Oh, wait, I know....he is still upset about the truth in what Navy was saying about fascism and that situation in Wisconsin. My goodness, he does hold a grudge. Navy can't help how accurate he is, and how bobby recognizes that.
Plagarized? That's not nice. Above my grade? Well, that's nice .... in a backhanded way? Which coming from Mz. DuPont (the Stainmaster Mistress) is pretty good. Speaking of stains, have you seen the new Stanley Cleaners commercial? The two guys are talking and the old pro is telling the rookie "Know the animal, know the stain. I once had a Feisty .... IT WAS AWESOME!" (Actually he said he once had an Alpaca, but a Feisty stain has to be the same) Speaking of the Stanley guys, can someone give them a call? There are Alpaca stains all over this thread. Something is wrong with the poor thing.
So you want another history test? Sure you do. This is a pretty good liberal test because,..... ahh, I'll tell ya later. Anyway, there are true answers, answers liberals would be very proud to provide. All statements in the paragraph are related to the same event. Tell Bev - that means that if one statement doesn't fit to that event none of the statements relate to that event, must be another event or something......nevermind she won't get it.
The unsuspecting navy ships sat peacefully in their berths that winter's morning. On hours earlier and half a world away, the sailor's commander-in-chief had been negotiating with Japanese diplomats, but now the sneak attack. Torpedoes came from nowhere and soon the harbour was flaming mess of sinking ships and screaming sailors swimming for their lives through fiery oil filled waters. Billy Mitchell would later lament that Japan never declares war before striking. The war would become the largest conflict the world had ever known and President Roosevelt would ultimately be acknowledged as a great world leader for his actions.
Questions:
1. What is the name of the war?
2. What great western country was attacked?
3. What is the name of the Pacific harbour?
4. What year did this event take place?
5. What is the first name of President Rosevelt?
There it is.
Do you think you know the answers Feisty? Of course you do. But I am a conservative and Feisty can't answer bob's questions. It's got to be a set up, right? Yep. So can you answer? You absolutely sure? Be careful. Am I trying to psyche you out? Yep - doesn't matter - you can't get one right. Does Chris probably think bob's debating himself - yep. And that's where the charlatan's answers are to the questions you flunked. (#11.2 for Bev)
Have a good weekend Feisty, btw- about the Japanese dog link, animals are so amazing. If you want to see a truly amazing story, a story that will break your heart - same link, but the story is - mourning a soldier and his dog. Thanks for the link, I won't forget either story.
I promised I would post the full Nazi stuff the next day and as I stated we could have it out and put the Nazi crap to rest. US Navy's next day post were perfectly fine, the conversation was focused on other stuff and out of respect to Navy's non-nazi comments - I dumped it on the old spot.
You can find it in my stuff - First Thoughts: Losing patience; Tue Mar 15; Key words - US Navy "Soup Nazi"
I will be happy to re-post it if you would like, or I can wait until someone pulls the Nazi crap again.
I would prefer to never use it, but if you guys want to have it out that's fine.
Hey Bob, what did Ronnie Raygun do in 1982 when Syria's Assad killed over 30,000 Syrians?
I can't seem to remember any NoFly zone, American Troops being sent into Syria, but of course Syria does'nt have much of what we Americans want, i.e. OIL!
Then again, there was that little thingy with a Little known group in Lebanon that Bombed the Marine barracks there, killing around 180 American troops, & What did Ronnie Raygun do then, He "TURNED TAIL & RAN" from Lebanon.
What was that little known groups name again?
Yeah, I know Now:
Hezzbolah!
After reading up on some post from yesterday, I seen where NOONE from the Chickenhawk side answered Tunde about where this $$ is gonna come from!
We're Broke, remember!
I'm sure You do, because You post it every single Day!
Splain to me again, what Lybia hasta do with America's Security? Is'nt that what our Troops are for, or are we now using them to Confiscate other country's Minerals?
ComeonMan, Mixed, maybe you can answer the questions i outlined to Bob above. Maybe the Great & Almighty Ronnie Raygun, with all his infinite wisdom, should've concentrated more on the middle east, so we would'nt be going thru all this stuff Now. Since he armed most of the islmaic terrorist we're accustomed to, could'nt he have waited until the Terrorist blewup the Berlin Wall.
I mean he was & still is the Great Ronnie Raygun.
Every daumed Conservative in the Country has got the RR branded into thier tiny little Elephant Brains!
You're talking to the wrong guy. I voted against Ronald Reagan not once, but twice.
I was a conservative Democrat until the Democratic Party began outlawing us.
The disgraceful Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings and my own Party's refusal to support President George H.W. Bush's (voted for Mike Dukakis in 1988, by the way...not proud of it, just engaging in full disclosure) coalition to oust Saddam Hussein from Kuwait switched me from "Democrat" to an "independent" voter status.
Glad I have you on the line, though...
How about a ruling from the First Read "officials' bench":
Since both President Obama and Secretary Of State Clinton favor U.S. military intervention in the Libya conflict, and neither has served in the U.S. military...
Should they both be regarded as "Chickenhawks", Rick?
Mixed bag, great post There doesn't seem to be anyplace in the democratic party for conservative democrats. Even if you agree with party 65-70% of the time. I suppose Republicans feel the same way about the Tea Party. Which is why there we are so polarized. Someone needs to give the far-left and right the memo.
I know and appreciate, from my own experience, the sacrifices you and your family are making to keep the U.S. safe.
It looks like the French, and perhaps even Arab nations (if ground troops are needed to remove Gaddafi), are out front in the Libya situation. Hopefully, they can do the heavy lifting in ending Gaddafi's rule, since the United States' military is stretched thin.
If it becomes clear that the world, not just the U.S., opposes Gaddafi's regime, perhaps the Libyan military will act to end it...since they cannot hope to prevail against the world's most powerful military forces.
The insult here is in the careless regard President Bush had for the lives of our brave men and women. I have and always will have the uptmost respect for my fallen comrades past, present and to come. They paid the ultimate price and more will follow. We owe them our respect for sure. We owe their families our respect for sure. And we must be on guard not to let this happen again needlessly.
To date, what did we win in Iraq any way???
- US Navy Disabled Veteran - Retired
To date, what did we win in Iraq?
We helped free a wonderful people.
We made the world a little safer for a moment in that TWO Evil Dictators will not be a nuclear threat.
I know - liberal heads are exploding, Depends are being soaked. Not the first time.
Same thing happened a few years ago when Bush announced the Axis of Evil. Everyone knew that Hussein had on two previous occasions tried to develop a nuclear program, he never was deterred from. Hussein suggested it, same as his other WMD programs, but to include N. Korea, Iran, Syria and Libya? Yep - liberal heads exploded.
Turns out - Bush was right, well I guess at least 80% right by liberal accounts. They all ended up having programs, or as the liberals would say except Hussein.
Funny that the only one that the world believed to have a program - was the ONLY one who actually did not have a program.
Oh well, regardless - there is no doubt that Hussein doesn't have one now and will never be a nuclear threat.
Which interestingly brings us to the other mad man that doesn't have one because of Bush's actions - Gadhafi.
It's interesting that after being an enemy of the West for decades, terror attacks, bombing jumbo airliners, setting bombs, killing hundreds of Americans, having a bomb dropped on his tent by Reagan, all of a sudden he picked the phone up and called George. Said he had been meaning to call for awhile, but he had been putting together a little nuclear program and had decided he really didn't want it He suggested that the U.S. could drop by and pick up the nuclear stuff. Oh yea, he had an old tread mill we never used - we could have that too.
Is that what happened? Or do think he thought Bush was serious about the war on terrorism? Do you think Gadhafi watching the U.S. go through Afghanistan in a couple of months and running the Taliban and ole bin Laden into caves who knows where had something to with it. Or maybe it was watching the U.S. obliterate Hussein's Republican Gaurds, track down and obliterate the Hussein boys and track down and drag Hussein out of hole as the soldier said something to the effect of "President Bush sends his regards."
Do anyone think that just maybe ...... some met with Moammar and in effect, showed him a few pictures and said President Bush to tell you you're next.
Either way,Gadhafi gave up the program. Fact. It is also a fact that it is unimaginable for him to have done so with out the actions Bush took in Iraq.
Funny you don't ever that mentioned. Funny you don't hear about how much more difficult the current situation would be if Gadhafi had a bomb now, or at least installed fuel rods. Think Obama and the UN would be saying much?
You won’t likely get a discussion from the left on that one. Excellent points.
I wonder how much the liberation of the people of Iraq and Afghanistan had to do with motivating the people in Yemen, Egypt and Bahrain to step up and demand freedom from tyranny and oppression. I believe President Bush meant to show the middle east what striving for democracy can do. He believed that people will stand up for their freedom, - people want to be free - if given the chance. Now there’s wide spread efforts to achieve the freedom he promoted.
What baffles me though, is that so many dismiss the good that came out the bad situations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Women are now part of government and running businesses. Little girls are going to school. There are no more torture chambers or mass graves. The left here talk a good game about caring for their fellow citizen, but seem to care less about the citizens of the world. They parrot the absurdity that Republicans hate women and children and the poor. But they are the ones accepting willing the atrocities around the world and here. Sad.
The grandiosity of Bush's vision can no longer be denied.
2. Woodward writes. Bush told him --"Most Presidents have high hopes. Some have grandiose visions of what they will achieve, and he was firmly in that camp," , "I will seize the opportunity to achieve big goals," adding, "There is nothing bigger than to achieve world peace."
And the way to achieve that, he believes, is often through war. "As we think through Iraq, we may or may not attack. I have no idea, yet.
[snip] The PNAC document supports a 'blueprint for maintaining global US pre-eminence, precluding the rise of a great power rival, and shaping the international security order in line with American principles and interests'.
This 'American grand strategy' must be advanced for 'as far into the future as possible', the report says. It also calls for the US to 'fight and decisively win multiple, simultaneous major theatre wars' as a 'core mission'.
The Commerce Department has been forced by Judicial Watch to turn over records of spring, 2001 meetings held between Dick Cheney and execs from global oil giants, records that suggest that the group decided months before September 11th that the US energy policy would center on taking control of Iraq's oil:
In the late spring of 2001, Vice President Cheney held a series of top secret meetings with the representatives of Exxon-Mobil, Conoco, Shell and BP America for what was later called the Energy Task-force. Their job, ostensibly, was to map out America’s Energy future.
I do not believe our president is a proud torture; that is one more, reason, I believe, he so deserved the Nobel Peace Award. A good president will do what is best for his/her country; not for their ownselfish greed and power.
Here's hoping after viewing the truth your weekend is still good.
There is a guy Bush gave an interview during his time as governor. In it he told the author if he could start a war he'd be great president. Unfortunately, I can't remember the author's name. I did google it instead of finding it I stumbled on those links. If I had more time, I'd continue the search. But, for now these will have to do.
I still believe the right will continue its quest to glorify former President GW Bush, just like they did Reagan, and discredit our President, a Nobel Peace winner.
He believed that people will stand up for their freedom, - people want to be free - if given the chance.
And with the freedom and individual rights, beyond the proud "purple fingers" - the hope and chance for a better material life for their children. Material has such a negative on connotation on the left, but the desire for a better more prosperous life for their children is a universal desire. Freedom provides that chance.
You mention women and little girls. I felt Bush was very much a womens advocate. His belief in their power and influence - what mother could stand the thought of her son becoming a suicide bomber. The militancy, the macho world of radicalism needs the counter balance women provide. Bush understood this.
I felt Bush was very much a womens advocate. His belief in their power and influence - what mother could stand the thought of her son becoming a suicide bomber. The militancy, the macho world of radicalism needs the counter balance women provide. Bush understood this.
A suicide bomber is not different from bombing a population of people who did nothing to our country; which is what Georgie boy did in Iraq. Every culture has their own way of fighting war. What do you think about the Japanese Kamikaze and their "Divine Wind"?
Personally, I see Georgie boy as a lying punk who is no different from a gangster looking turf, power and wealth. Georgie boy f'd up our economy, the Middle East; and as result I see him and his cronies no different than Hitler who wanted to rule the world based upon my research of Georgie boy
I'm proud we have President Obama who is changing those dynamics. We can barely take care of our own.
The President does not have to bow to the demand of you insatiable righties. Let the other countries take lead for a change; including the Arabs and Africans. After all, it's country and their destines. We'll still be great under President after it's all over. If it turns out the multilateral as opposed to unilateral America's face will not look like ocuppiers. .

Beverly, happy Saturday to you. It is certainly a beautiful day.
I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to cause your blood to boil. You can argue or believe what ever you want about why we invaded Iraq or about President Bush’s concocted ulterior motives. I will probably not disagree with you about the execution of the war.
You cannot argue, though, Bev, that Iraq is currently no longer under the oppression of a deranged dictator. You cannot disagree that the citizens of Iraq and Afghanistan are enjoying greater freedoms than they did before. Right?
Okay, so my point is suddenly the citizens of the Middle East and North Africa have taken it upon themselves to stand up for their freedom. That’s a good thing, isn’t it?
Isn’t it a good thing when democracy can spread across an entire region?
The situation in Libya is one in which the people are rebelling against a dictator. The dictator is killing his own people. The posts that appear on First Read by those on your side sound as if you all are okay with that, and would prefer to turn a blind eye. I’m baffled that you say you stand up for the rights of women and for the freedom of the oppressed, but when it comes to Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan, your opinion is the opposite. Now President Obama has agreed and authorized the U.S. to provide military support in Libya. This is the right thing to do. We are supposed to support those who seek freedom and civil rights, aren’t we? Or do you think so only if it’s you and only if it’s here?
As an aside, my nephew completed two tours in Iraq. He’s very proud of the work he did there and the difference they made. I will stand by our troops no matter what their mission, no matter where they are.
Clara – as for koolaid. No, I don’t drink koolaid. I tried mixing green koolaid with gin once when I couldn’t afford tonic. I don’t recommend it. Bleck.
Well said, Candice. Oh, and, bob, I am pretty sure your "history test" spurred some frantic Googling this morning- well done.
I just got back from the family St. Joseph's Day celebration. I suppose no one absent northern Italian blood knows what that means- suffice to say, if you have never had a St. joseph's zeppolli, you lead sad, sad lives.
The talk was, of course, Libya. And Obama. And his Brazil Spring Break. Two of the twenty something nieces were really at it- one had tired of Mr. Hopeful Changiness, as she calls him, some time ago, while the other WAS clinging on for dear life. The latter insisted, quite vehemently, that to change his plans after giving the order to send our planes to bomb in the Middle East would have been a sign that, well, it was more important than a trade mission. ( duh!). She defended him relentlessly, and stormed into another room, where the television was tuned to CNN. We then heard a shriek- " oh, lord! Is that the Mother - in - law,?!
You see, all day she had been insisting that Obama was off on his lonely own, NOT in a family vacation. Well, maybe the wife had come, but that is status quo for state visits. Refused to believe the kids and mom had also made the trip.
Thus, we witnessed yet another conversion.
I kind of wonder how many more were made today- juxtaposing American flyers on bombing missions with Michelle Obama learning to samba while the hubby drinks chi parinhas and the kids and mom tan on the beach is sort of disconcerting for those who might be gullible, but are not downright stubbornly stupid.
Happy St. Joseph's! I have had zeppolli but we called it St. Joseph's cake. Decadent!
Jay Carney, when asked if the President’s South American trip was still on, said: “It bears repeating that this is a crisis—there’s no question about it. And it is a crisis in Japan. It is not a crisis in the United States.”
So engaging our military to participate in a conflict isn’t crisis-presidential-attention-worthy. Our ships are off the coasts of Japan. Congress can’t pass a budget. Never mind 12 million people still unemployed.
You know, I don’t begrudge the President basketball games. All Presidents exercise – jogging, bike riding. It’s a stressful job.
I realize that Presidents are never really on vacation. They are surrounded constantly by their entourage and briefed constantly. It's a matter of perception and appearances though. It does look a bit bad that the President and his family trot off to Latin America. There’s no major initiative that will be discussed. No treaties negotiated. No real business to tend to. While there’s so much suffering going on, you’d think he’d want to appear a little more in touch. There's plenty of other places he could go to be more productive. Panama, maybe. Or Colombia.
I absolutely agree with you, Candice. It is all about appearances, and propriety.
He cancelled trips to Australia because he needed to stay put and ram through his unwanted healthcare bill. Now, with a world crisis, he cannot conceive of canceling his television appearance to announce his Bracket picks, let alone cancel this junket.
The sky must really be plaid in Obamaland, where reality never intrudes.
Really, Candice? Read: Right Wing Media Livid Over Obama's Economic Growth Trip to Latin America. Media Matters, Mar 18, 2011. Then answer this question: why does the right wing hate America and want her to fail?
The right wing does not hate America. They do not want her to fail. It's the job of the right wing to oppose the left wing - Read: The Rules of Politics. President Obama's priorities seem a bit skewed sometimes.
Answer this question, Newday: Why does the left wing hate women and children and freedom fighters?
You did not answer my question Candice. The right wing nutjobs are not opposing President Obama in any rational way. It is clear they want to completely destroy the man, having nothing to do with his politics. Are you proud of that? The proper phrase, of course, is "the loyal opposition". Study, and look up the word "loyal" since it seems to be the antithesis of you and your ilk. As to the left hating women and children? Ummm, no, that would be the right wing nuts too. Do read my earlier post on current Republican activities. But, we have indeed smoked you out for what you are. You can no longer even pretend to be objective, and even YOU, though it took awhile, finally realize it.
I will agree with you that the extreme right wing seems to oppose the President on just about everything. In most cases, it has everything to do with his politics and policies. In some cases, they just don't seem to respect the man. At the same time, the extreme left seems to oppose just about everything from the right - they get pretty nasty and irrational too.
Fortunately, for the country, the majority of Americans fall into the center.
I did read your post on current Republican activities. It was agreed to by the President and Democrats during the health care debate that no federal funds would fund abortions. The debate over this issue seemed like grandstanding to me since the Hyde Amendment was already law. One issue though was how to enforce the policy since it would be difficult and cumbersome for insurance companies to segregate premiums. The bill you're talking about is an attempt to ensure adherence to the policy. It's meant to ensure adherence to the law. I'll agree with you that is sounds pretty intrusive on the surface.
Do you know the Adoption Tax benefit is now a refundable credit? The tax Benefit was created to encourage adoption. To apply for the credit, one has to provide documentation. Did you go into a tizzy over the adoption credit too? Encouraging adoption is meddling into the personal decisions of people, isn't it? Why doesn't the government simply stay out of parental decisions?
You haven't really answered my question. You seem to stand up for women's rights. At the same time, you decry and refuse to support the liberation of the oppressed. Why is that?
George W. Bush's did not begin democracy. The people of the Middle East themselves did. Bush's democratic efforts for War in Iraq, first of all was perputated on the evolution of 3 LIES.
1.) YELLOW CAKE WHICH NEVER APPEREARED
2.) 2 WMDS WHICH NEVER WERE THERE
3.) FREE IRAQ FROM SADEEM
It was not until President Obama got into office that right right conjured up this lie that Bush started democracy in the Middle East, I think , in order to rehab Georgie boy’s dreadfully inexcusable image.
In these days the right has a very easy way of conflating lies and policies.
For instance, this thing about was a total waste of i.e. stall the law was already there.
I just got back from the family St. Joseph's Day celebration. I suppose no one absent northern Italian blood knows what that means- suffice to say, if you have never had a St. joseph's zeppolli, you lead sad, sad lives.
Thanks for putting others down. I know St Joseph is a carpenter, Mother Mary's husband and the father of Jesus. If you weren't such a snob you wouldn't mind sharing with us who don't know.
You see, all day she had been insisting that Obama was off on his lonely own, NOT in a family vacation. Well, maybe the wife had come, but that is status quo for state visits. Refused to believe the kids and mom had also made the trip.
Thus, we witnessed yet another conversion.
No offense, but did your niece convert the same way when she discovered how President Bush was partying with John McCain during the emergency situations of Katrina? Was she appalled at all the sh!t smirking jokes he told or how profound his thoughts truly were then rather than view him as public speaker capable of moving the country and the world during a crisis; especially, now that whole world knows The Iraq War was a lie? What did she think of him not acting as CIC when Bush read “my Pet Goat” on 9/11? Does she think his playing a guitar when the peole on Katrina were suffering was courageous or shameful?
FYI: Brazil is the world's seventh largest economy, while Chile is the 24th largest trading partner with the U.S. El Salvador's economy is expected to grow 5.3% this year.
"Today, Brazil imports more goods from the United States than from any other nation. And President Obama will be meeting with business leaders from both countries to talk about how we can create even more jobs by deepening these economic ties," said the President.
The Obama Administration says there are over 300,000 jobs in the U.S. as a direct result of trade with the three countries.
The key word there is import not export. At least the President has a plan. Where is the republican plan/ What jobs have the republicans created since they took the majority in the Senate.
Don't say that 8.5% is a result of republican leadership either. Even Spanky has conceded to that.
Candice: It is not the extreme right wing, it is the Republican Party who hate both America and this President. They have never adjusted to the idea that a Democrat and particularly a BLACK Democrat have any right to that office. I put you and no jo in that group. This is an extension of the Hyde Amendment designed to do nothing more than harass women who have had to make a serious decision about their lives and that of their families. In its paternalistic ('poor dear, she simply has no clue how to select her hat, we must take decisions OUT of her hands'); the boys in the House, are insulting women, as they once again push the belief that women rush into a life changing decision like that with a yawn and no thought. Don't tell me that you are NOT a part of that. You and no jo just had this smarmy conversation where you assured each other that the Obamas were going on a jaunt quoting you "trotting off to Latin America." If you LOVED your country, you would have challenged no jo and asked her why she would intimate such a despicable thing about this President and his wife when it has been the job of Presidents and their wives to undertake such trips for years. YOU, Candice are part of the problem.Your question to me is asinine. Challenge: find where I have "refused to support the liberation of the oppressed." If you can't, then apologize. As to the adoption credit? Good one. The straw man. One has nothing to do with the other. Now, you have a choice to make, just like the rest of the Republican Party does. You either want what is best for this country or you don't. Either you understand the definition of the word "loyal" or you don't. You want to disagree with policy, that is your right. When you attack a President and his family, and make up reasons to do so, you are just wrong headed, it demonstrates a lack of seriousness, and tells me much about you, none of it good.
Note the source? There are others. It was removed from Iraq in the summer of 2008, and shipped to Canada.
Naturally, there was a lot of secrecy about this- we did not want it to fall into the wrong hands. However, the removal, once accomplished, was widely heralded.
There are still those who seek to deny the truth- however, the proof is there.
The ugliest times and events in the history of our otherwise great country usually took place when close-minded, shallow and frightened citizens stereotyped and categorized people into groups and assigned blanket ideology to those groups. “Them black folks” in the 50’s and 60’s, women throughout time, the Irish-Americans in the 20’s, the Japanese in the 40’s. Rational and compassionate people refused the discriminatory labels, wrapped their arms around people of all race, ethnicity and religion, and saw people for who they were individually.
Yet, here you are, Newday, perpetuating the sordid side of our history, painting all those who disagree with policy with a broad brush. (All Republicans, All Tea Partiers, All conservatives). If I don’t agree with the policy or behavior of our President, I must hate America.
I’ve always felt bad for you, Newday. You must go through life so closed minded, so offended, so full of misery and hate.
Legislation is proposed or written to try to enforce laws that already exist. Rather than reading the blogs about HR 3, you might read the actual bill.
I do love my country. Because of the love I have for my country, I pay attention to what the current administration and Congress is doing, how they behave, and the images they project. If I support a policy, disagree with a policy, or believe our representatives or President, by behavior or policy, are sending the wrong message, I can say so. It is my right. Maybe it’s you who should revisit the definition of “loyal opposition.”
You have refused to support the liberation of the oppressed. Can you admit the people of Iraq are better off now that they are no longer under the oppression of a deranged dictator, and the Afghan people are on their way? If you can, I will apologize. Until then, I have to assume you don’t care about those people and are complacent with mass graves, mass murder and oppression. (Deep down, I don’t actually believe you don’t care, but I do believe your hatred of the Bush administration will cause you to deny it).
It is always so amusing, Candice, to see those who know they are on the losing side of the argument to launch into a personal attack; I asked you to find a quote of mine that supports what you said that I think. You, of course, unable to do that, hit the Republican talking points on Iraq. Here is what is true about Iraq: It is not important what I think, YOUR QUESTION SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO IRAQI CITIZENS WHO HAVE TO LIVE WITH THE DECISION BUSH MADE. As to painting with a broad brush: Paraphrasing YOU, Candice: "why does the left wing hate women, children and freedom fighters," when the evidence is clearly against it. Why do I say all Republicans: simply this, your side of the aisle has had ample opportunity to step on the birthers and the haters. Boehner ,Cantor, all of them have been asked about that nonsense, and equivocate on it. A man or woman of principle would say "you are all nutcases, knock it off". They don't. That is the LEADERSHIP of your party. One can extrapolate from that without fear of being wrong, that is the party position. Now, you, in your zeal to rehash the old Republican talking points, say that the left hates freedom fighters. What is President Obama doing right now? Engaging Libya. Why? To support freedom fighters. Kind of flies in the face of your thesis right, Candice? So, will await your quote from me that supports what you say. And as amused as I am at your attempt to demean me through "pity', please know that I am far too dismissive of you for it to have any effect.
A suicide bomber is not different from bombing a population of people who did nothing to our country; which is what Georgie boy did in Iraq. Every culture has their own way of fighting war. What do you think about the Japanese Kamikaze and their "Divine Wind"?
Suicide bombers disguise themselves. They do not identify themselves as the enemy, no uniform or reason to warn of a danger. And their victims? More often than not, innocent unsuspecting men and women, boys and little girls. Babies? No difference. This is the reason they have no Geneva protections, they are simply terrorists with no reason, or purpose other than to terrorize the innocents.
Your ignorance would insult Japenese Kamikaze pilots if it weren't so profound and obvious. Confused, Bev? Hint: They were uniformed, their planes were identified and they attacked military targets.
You equate terrorists to the President of the United States, compare him to Hitler.
My first reflection is that you insult your own intelligence. But that is laughable.......
how does one insult something that so obviously doesn't even exist.
Patriotism is a love and defense of country, not a man. Our "loyalty" is to the founding beliefs and the work, the sacrifice of great Americans that came before and built this great Nation - not a liberal ideologue that wants to transform (his own words) America into his model.
We believe in the dreams of our foundings fathers - not the dreams of Obama's father from Kenya.
And the truth, Newday, is that evidence is clearly against both of our questions.
Regarding the birthers. If it gives you any hope at all, I think the birthers are whacky. I don’t need our leaders to tell me that, do you? It’s a free country however. People can think what ever they want to – sadly, even if it’s not true. There's a lot of that going around.
Find a quote from you? No. I asked you a simple question, which, as I suspected, you won’t answer. That’s okay.
Patriotism is a love and defense of country, not a man. Our "loyalty" is to the founding beliefs and the work, the sacrifice of great Americans that came before and built this great Nation -
Yep, time to declare victory here. This is the way it works, Candice: you made a statement about how I think. I asked you to support your statement with evidence, you cannot. I also refuted YOUR points by: showing how the Republican party as a whole supports the most extreme elements of their party, by equivocating, and in some cases outright agreement with the birther nonsense. I also debunked your moronic question of why the left hates freedom fighters by reminding you that this President just engaged in supporting freedom fighters, an effort that you and poor no jo attack by making accusations about this President partying in Latin American countries, when he is clearly NOT doing that. What you came back with is a homily that belongs embroidered and put on the wall of the thoughtless. Patriotism is a respect to the office of President, which YOU lack, and a willingness to challenge the leadership of this country on POLICY when they are wrong. I remind you again, because I have said it before. Do we on the left have our nutcases? Absolutely. We TELL them they are nutcases. The Republican Party runs theirs for President. You want to be taken seriously by thoughtful people? Then talk policy, don't support people making up things about the President and his family. By the way, to poor no jo, who STILL cannot come up with a proper cite. That nonsense you posted was debunked long ago.
This is the way it works, Candice: you made a statement about how I think. I asked you to support your statement with evidence,
I told you no. I asked you a question. Your answer was: “Don’t ask me!”
I also refuted YOUR points by: showing how the Republican party as a whole supports the most extreme elements of their party, by equivocating, and in some cases outright agreement with the birther nonsense.
Take a deep breath and go back and read my posts. As long as you label everyone with “as a whole” you perpetuate the shallow stereotyping and categorizing I pointed out.
I also debunked your moronic question of why the left hates freedom fighters by reminding you that this President just engaged in supporting freedom fighters,
An effort I support. Unfortunately Bev compares our military to suicide bombers. "A suicide bomber is not different from bombing a population of people who did nothing to our country."
an effort that you and poor no jo attack by making accusations about this President partying in Latin American countries, when he is clearly NOT doing that.
It’s all about perception and appearances.
Patriotism is a respect to the office of President, -
I respect the office of President. I also respect the foundation on which our country was formed – freedom of speech and loyal opposition. Patriotism, Newday, is not swallowing policy hook, line and sinker when those policies, in one’s opinion, are wrong.
I remind you again, because I have said it before. Do we on the left have our nutcases? Absolutely.
Then, we agree.
We TELL them they are nutcases.
Has President Obama called a segment of our population nutcases? I must have missed that.
You want to be taken seriously by thoughtful people? Then talk policy, -
Good advice. You might want to consider that yourself. If ever you'd like to have a thoughtful discussion on policy, let me know.
Today it's a rainy dreary day and it seems your response to my post about suicide bombers is just as dreary.
I repeat what I to ...
Bob, you can notreshapethe purposes and limits to war. There are so many factors you are not taking into account such asreligion, society, and politics when you trace back the origins of other cultures historical warfare and how they impact the real problems of today’s armed conflicts.
There seem to be some disconnects in your arguments: The job of The Right is NOT to just oppose anything that the Left does, it is their JOB to take care of the needs of the American Public, not, this does NOT mean to just take care of the Fabulously rich that pay their campaign costs etc. Right now the Repubs and Tea Partiers seem hell bent on rewarding the Obscenely-Too-Rich-To-Fail crowd with massive tax breaks and decreased regulation for jobs that are NOT APPEARING as they were supposed to in return for such tax breaks, and are piling massive costs and MORE REGULATIONS on the poorest portion of the Public, ya know, the ones who do not have jobs or are working two jobs or more just to squeak by. All while the Corps and Rich hold onto and sit on top of their AT LEAST $2 TRILLION in CASH (not in stock, bonds, money markets, etc....but CASH) and are STILL not hiring.
I applaud President Obama using diplomacy and going thru the UN, Arab League etc. in working for an INTERNATIONAL No Fly Zone for Libya. He did not just unilaterally DECIDE to go to war, he worked with a broad coalition to protect the PEOPLE in Libya...Unlike the Bush-Cheney cabal that DECIDED to go to war with Iraq and THEN fabricated the excuses to do so, ignoring INTERNATIONAL consensus on the whole thing. Bush, Cheney, Rummy, Rice, Yoo etc. are WAR CRIMINALS and it will be proven in NATIONAL and INTERNATIONAL Courts yet, these people will NOT get off scot free, nor will their sycophants at lower levels.
The Main enemy of the US right now is The International Corporations and Banks who have bought their way into our Government, not only at the Congressional and SCOTUS levels, but at bureaucratic levels as well, with the followers of The Bush Regime burrowed into so many of our organizations, working from inside to crush the ability of The People to make laws that accurately and fairly reflect the needs of The People....Not the Corporations. Right now the Repubs and tea partiers seem to be totally beholden to these same Corporations that are destroying our Air, Water and Land with pollutants, are unfairly passing legislation in State Governments that are illegal, unconstitutional and toally immoral...yet they proclaim themselves to be The Party Of Family Values? What about the family value to eat every day, to have a home, to have medical care that does not bankrupt one, and WHERE ARE THE JOBS?? Oh Yeah, they threaten to fire people if their legislation does not pass...can you say Blackmail...see there, I KNEW you Could!
You talk about "Loyal Opposition"...loyal to Whom?? The Corporations and Banks, who are doing just fine with the trillions that we have poured out for them, or Loyal to The people, who are losing everything they have due to the actions of the unscrupulous Corporations and Banks?? Right now The people are being screwed, hard, by the right and their Corporate/Bank allies....they are destroying the very fabric of what it means to be American.
One can always predict that the Candice's of this world must try to find away to snatch victory out of defeat. But, if the only way you have to do that is to put words in my mouth...sorry, you lose. Let me be as clear as possible, and then we will allow Candice the last word, since that is all that she has to regain her composure, which an objective observer will agree that she has certainly lost. If you want to be right wing Candice...be that. The reason I constantly call you out is this misapprehension you have that you can somehow float above the rest. You cannot. I am a proud Liberal, with the knowledge that it is the Liberals who first read, took to heart and answered Aristotle's question: "Can free men rule free men." Jefferson, Madison, Adams, Franklin patriots all, risked their very lives to answer that question, with the birth of this nation. It is illustrative that Jefferson had similar problems with the nutcase right wing of his day. They DETESTED him, the way you and your ilk detest this President. It isn't policy with any of you, it is simply tribalism. It is shameful the way that you on the right behave. We can predict with certainty what will happen. Those of you on the right, who have been attacking this President for perceived non-response to the events in Libya, will now attack him due to this response. You will accuse him of lack of seriousness, claim that he is simply on a vacation (which you have already done.) and then go after his wife for her activities. Shame on all of you. Policy is one thing, making things up is another. And you, and no jo and bobby and the rest of you make things up. Let's see if you can fix that and post with some serious purpose. But, Candice, in all honesty I don't think you can.
Patriotism is a respect to the office of President, -
Then you said---" I respect the office of President. I also respect the foundation on which our country was formed – freedom of speech and loyal opposition. Patriotism, Newday, is not swallowing policy hook, line and sinker when those policies, in one’s opinion, are wrong."
That is the biggest crap of manure the right has. Why? You people feign over the President's mishandling and his digging the country in a deeper hole. The truth is the hole is getting deeper because you guys are returning to the hole; thereby making it a bigger gaping hole, since you people have the same ideas that caused the hole.
You people don't respect the Founding Fathers principle unless you take pleasure in the President as being your property. The Founding Fathers wrote in the Constitution gave sufficient support that people like our President as being 3/5 of a person.
Some how this plays into the inferiors character traits the right continues to cling to. Let the right tell it President Obama is incompetent in every endeavor. Yet, as I have said on numerous occasions our President has done more since FDR.
NO other president has been able to give America Healthcare Reform in the past 50 years. These attacks on the president’s policies are code words to demonize the President’s accomplishments because it’s the right that doesn’t embrace all of the documents of the Founding Fathers including the famous words of Thomas Jefferson in the United States Declaration of Independence exclaiming--"Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
In the preamble of the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES it says – in order to form a more perfect union. This is the big lie and hypocrisy of the rabid right. Other wise you’d stop the pretending and allow our President to move this toward that goal to establish justice, insure domestic and tranquility, insuring equality for all instead of some....
Do you believe that in order to be true Americans, everyone is supposed to rally behind the President inclusive of his policies, regardless of our beliefs? The fact is that our country is deeply divided – almost exactly in half. The job of the right or the left is not to oppose ANYTHING put forth by the other side. Rather, it is the job of the right or left to oppose policies they disagree with. It is the job of the right or left to represent the people who elected them. So when the right opposes policies put forth by the left, they are representing the beliefs of half the country. When the left opposes right leaning policies, they are representing half of the country. That’s the way it was meant to be. It’s unfortunate we’re split in two. It would be nice if every one agreed on everything, but that’s simply not the case. The foundation of our government was formed to ensure checks and balances. Do you understand what I mean?
I think all officials on both sides are meaning to take care of the American public. They just have different views of how to do that, and their views are unshakable. Republicans believe if they reduce taxes and regulations for the corporations that create jobs, jobs will be created. The Democrats believe that taxing the rich and regulating business will somehow ease the pain of American workers. I don’t think President Obama is trying to destroy America. I think he believes what he believes. I don’t think the Republicans and Tea Party are out to destroy the middle class. Our goals are the same. Our methods are different.
I’m unaware of regulations being forced on the poorest of the Public. What are you referring to?
Corporations are sitting on $2 trillion and are not hiring because they don’t have to. Businesses are functioning just fine without additional personnel. Corporations will not hire just to be charitable and nice, B. They will hire when they need to. When demand warrants increases in production, the jobs will come. And businesses are hiring again. 200,000 jobs were created in the private sector in February. Not enough yet, but it’s a start.
I applaud President Obama for engaging in the Libya conflict. The world used to look towards the U.S. for leadership. I don’t fault Obama for handing this over to the U.N. Our troops are stretched pretty thin. If we can be part of a coalition that can help - fine. We are showing support for the rebels, which, in my opinion, we should do. I don’t want to get into a discussion about the Bush administration and the reasons we went to Iraq – that’s something we will probably never agree on. But check your details on that. Most major countries in the U.N., except Russia and China, supported and encouraged the U.S. efforts to go after Saddam Hussein.
Right now, B. Honest, the enemy of the U.S. is the economy and our mounting debt. It’s not the corporations, or the Supreme Court, or our respective political parties. It’s not even the piles of cash from special interests because special interest money is pretty well divided between both sides.
You bring up a lot of arguments, and I can understand where you’re coming from. I disagree with much of what you say, but that’s what makes the country great, right?
You people don't respect the Founding Fathers principle unless you take pleasure in the President as being your property. The Founding Fathers wrote in the Constitution gave sufficient support that people like our President as being 3/5 of a person.
I was going to respond to you, but you've gone over the edge.

"Do you believe that in order to be true Americans, everyone is supposed to rally behind the President inclusive of his policies, regardless of our beliefs?" Is the statement you just made...What about during the Bush Regime when the Repubs declared that this was THE WAY IT NEEDED TO BE: ALL AMERICANS HAVE TO SUPPORT THE PRESIDENT OR YOU ARE NOT BEING PATRIOTIC ENOUGH! Yet when a Black Democrat is in the office they turned 180 degrees from that? Your statement would be funny if it were not so tragically wrongfully applied. No, I do not expect everyone to agree with him, or his policies, however he IS our President and the respect is NOT being shown to him in the manner it should: Bigotry has been the method of the Right for so long that now they are being hoist on their own petard because they cannot get away from it now...it is too well ingrained within the psyche of the right. Divide and conquer via racial and religious tensions has been their mantra for decades, they cannot disown it now.
Right now the Dems are the ones that are the ONLY true representation for some 96% of all Americans: they are trying to help EVERYBODY as opposed to the Repub/Tea Party folks who are ONLY interested in the Obscenely-Too-Rich-To-Fail Crowd.
What regulations against the poor and working classes? How about the National-At-Governor level tries at regulating Unions, How about the extra regulations being proposed against abortion, How about Governors giving themselves the power to dissolve town and county governments and replace them with Corporations that are beholden to them instead of being beholden to the People who voted those governments, at city, town and county levels into place in the first place. Could it be that the only town, City or County governments that will be attacked in this manner ate staunchly Democrat ones?? And WHERE ARE THE JOBS THESE PEOPLE PROMISED US?? Why are there being MORE tax breaks given out when the budgets are so tight to begin with?? What good do they do: NONE, they just shovel more money into the pockets of those who do not NEED it, unlike the rest of the public which has to pay for those tax breaks.
I truly believe that the average, working Republican voter has the Country in mind, but the Repub Politicians and their new wing, the Tea party, is ONLY interested in the Uber Rich, who are NOT hurting in any way, shape or form. All of their actions of late bear this out as proof, they do NOT have 'America' and the bettering of it in mind, they are being directed strictly out of the overwhelming greed of those who have WAY too much already, and are working diligently to get the rest of it.
That is ok tho, that you truly believe yourself to be on the correct side of history, However, truth NEVER dies, and the TRUTH of what has been happening is actually unfolding before the eyes of the public, worldwide. People are recognizing that they have been being HAD, that they have been having their entire nations stolen out from under them. America is just one of the last to recognize this, but people are coming around to recognize the FACT that the International Corporations and Banks do NOT have the good of humankind in mind, just GREED, for money and power and control. And it is falling apart around them as we speak, mostly because THE PUBLIC has SEEN what is going on, it can no longer be denied. Oh yeah, there are many many paid trolls and naysayers from the right, being paid by the self-same Corporations that are spending nearly a third of a Trillion dollars to influence our present Congress.
And NO, there is NOT equal money being spent on the parties: The International Corps and Banks for the Repubs can, and have been, spending trillions from the profits that they made, even since the bailouts, while the Dems, while they get some money from Corporations, true, get most of their backing from REAL people, not artificial ones that not only get the representation of their individual ones, but now the Corps themselves get representation. So the rich and Corporate types get double representation, along with their dollars being representation, while the poor, middle class workers just get screwed? Go back and really look at what Citizens United really did to us and our traditional means of representation being steamrolled by the Almighty (fiat) Dollar. Right now the poor and middle class are very much "Taxed Without Equal Representation" and at higher actual rates as well.
Where does no jo come up with this nonsense Feisty? Bev, B.Honest! Good to see you both on this fine Sunday. Always good to read truth and honesty from people.
You people don't respect the Founding Fathers principle unless you take pleasure in the President as being your property. The Founding Fathers wrote in the Constitution gave sufficient support that people like our President as being 3/5 of a person.
I was going to respond to you, but you've gone over the edge.
Whoa Candice,
Speaking of limits, don't tell me you are so blind you don't recognize innuendoes? Your t-baggers and people with rabid right inclinations have made our handsome, intelligent, your whipping boy because you relish taking your country back to the 18th century.

I don’t remember the Republicans declaring this was THE WAY IT NEEDED TO BE: ALL AMERICANS HAVE TO SUPPORT THE PRESIDENT OR YOU ARE NOT BEING PATRIOTIC ENOUGH! In fact, I remember quite a bit of dissent during the Bush administration, especially in the last few years. President Obama is receiving no less respect than any of his predecessors. The only difference I see is that when there is a disagreement on policy and behavior and priorities, words about bigotry are hurled around. That’s weak. And shameful. Sorry.
In my view, the Democrats, especially lately, are not focusing on 96% of Americans. They are only 12% of populace – unions. They certainly don’t seem to be working for me.
In my view, the Democrats, especially lately, are not focusing on 96% of Americans. They are focusing on only 12% of populace – unions. They certainly don’t seem to be working for me.
One, not all unions are specifically Democrat, and Two, The Dems ARE focusing on what is best for EVERYBODY: poor, middle class, working class AND the wealthy, while the Repubs are only working for the top 2% of the wealthy, this is plain fact and takes very little research time to prove. The Repubs held up in the Senate just about everything that they could, with a RECORD Number of Vetos and Veto movements on things that would have moved ALL of us out of this depression....BUT, the Repubs WANT us to be hurting, WANT us to doubt the Pres. Want there to be angst and fear because that is the medium that they know best how to control with the media that they nearly completely own. Had President Obama's policies, in fact, been enacted, there would be a LOT less stress on our system right now and we would be a LOT farther along in getting out of the depression that the Repubs, intentionally, tossed us into. After all, THEIR Banks and Corporations are doing just fine...especially since the taxpayer was billed for their intentional mistakes. Watch this for some better info: http://activism101.ning.com/video/catherine-austin-fitts-the
If you do Not remember the Repubs DEMANDING that everybody fall into lockstep behind the President under Bush then you have somewhat of a memory problem. That along with such trite sayings as "Deficits Do Not Matter" and "I am THE Decider"
President Obama is receiving a LOT less respect than his predecessors and a LOT of that lies around the fact that yes, he is Black, has an Islamic sounding name and (Sadly, in some people's minds) he may not be Christian. The right wing is STILL hammering these memes, even though there is ample proof positive that he is a US Citizen, born in this Nation, had no control over what his name was, nor his color, and he is, indubitably Christian. The right is still trying to turn people against him based on THOSE facts, not because of his actual policies. In fact, most on the right could not accurately tell you WHAT his policies actually are. Oh, you hear about The Health Plan...but do you ever really hear that it is nearly exactly the same as the Repub one? That the whole 'Mandate' section was ADDED BY THE REPUBS? that Pres. Obama has actually done stuff that BOTH the right and left have tried, but failed to do for decades? No, you just hear that his name is funny, that he was born in Africa and is a Muslim...at least that is about all that the politicians on the right will say...before they make their equally erroneous 'corrections'.
Gee, B. Honest. I'm sorry. I tried to find something in your post that I could agree with, but I can't. I don't even think we can discuss any of those issues in a nice, respectful way. We are experiencing two different worlds. I hope your world is good to you. Stay well, B.
Gee, Candice, I am very sorry that I used facts that you are unable to refute, ones that come, unfortunately, from the Real World, not the fantasy one that your Repub leaders would have you believe. Those of us that actually LIVE out here in this rough and tumble world of Real Consequences and have been hard-rolled by it have a much less than rosy view of things. We have been cheated, lied to, stolen from and told that it will all trickle back down to us....yet more and more ends up in the hands of those who already have Obscenely-Too-Much-Already, and we aim to put a stop to it. We are seeing Corporations and Banks having more input into our laws than majorities of the populace do to the point that they, the Corporations and Banks, are very nearly in total control of our Government when it is supposed to be Of The People, By The People, For The People.
I, Like most Progressives, am for PROGRESS....NOT forgetting everything that we have learned in this past century and dropping back into the late 1800's era of robber barons who felt that they were above the law like the Repubs and Tea Partiers are desperately trying to claw us back to. I will also tell the truth as I see it, here on the ground, outside of the Fox News spin cycle, and the Truth is NOT pretty.
Bush Sr.'s New World Order, a Corporate/Bank Cabal run world government that makes puppets of all other governments through financial blackmail and manipulations, has come all too close to actually being realized. They have done their manipulations and blackmail (notice the engineered 'Bank Failures', the countries whose bonds have been devalued by ratings agencies and the 'austerity measures' used on them to bring them into compliance with the Bankster's of the New World Order)...but they have been caught at it too, and their crimes are catching up to them, all too publicly. Right now the financial dealings of the past 25-30 years are being investigated heavily and within the year we can expect to see arrests of many of our major financial and political players for financial warfare and treason against many nations of the World as well as for war crimes committed upon people of many nations. It is coming and those in positions of power and high finance are panicking right now, which is why we are seeing such a push against unions and other institutions of the middle class and poor. The Rich have been waging an economic war against ALL of us in their attempt to gain total control of the financial, economic, political and social realms....and they nearly won. It took Bush the Younger's blatant criminality in the political, economic, financial and warfare realms to take the covers and blinders off of most of the populace. Most can still not believe that things are really this bad, even with the evidence clearly in front of them. But it is, and there are those of us who are working diligently to make sure that this cabal of criminals pay for their misdeeds and turn things back around so that the world works for ALL of us, not just a tiny sliver of rich amongst the masses of the desperately poor, as we were headed.
Changes, BIG Changes are coming, and the Rich and Powerful have no way of stopping it, just like the changes in Egypt, Tunisia and the rest of the Arabic World...just like Ireland, Italy and Greece who have all been conned, bullied and battered by the NWO, just like Portugal and Spain and much of the Latin American nations, who have seen this happening and have worked to get away from the NWO as best that they can, any way that they can. The New World Order, Shadow Government, Criminal Cabal....no mater what you want to call them, they have been caught and are being brought to task....it is just a matter of time now and even our bought-and-paid-for corporate mass media will have to admit that it has been an active part of the whole game, and yes, they will be brought to task for it as well. The People Of The World have woken up and found that nearly ALL of their bosses are corrupt and in league with each other to keep the masses poor and 'under control'. Well, as Egypt, Tunisia and Libya all show, The People can, and will, make massive changes to ensure that this ends and does NOT happen again.
The paragraph contained the statement that Billy Mitchell later lamented that Japan never declares. Billy Mitchell's statement was a reference to the 1904 attack, made before the 1941 attack as a warning.
His warning was that history repeats itself. It did. Same in many ways as with Hitler and Hussein, the first example.
Want another quick quiz?
Bush said that 9/11 changed everything - hence the need for a new different doctrine.
Question:
Is this legitimate?
Answer:
Were more Americans killed on 12/7/1941 by 250 veteran combat pilots flying some of the most advanced fighters, torpedo planes and dive bombers; or on 9/11/2001 by 19 guys with box cutters.
How many Americans died in over 4 years of combat in both theaters of WWII combined? Does this number equal the number of innocent civilians that would be killed in the flash of light of a nuclear explosion in a major city?
Decide for your self.
Plagarizism note for Feisty: The genesis of the second question relating to the Russo-Japanese War was a paragraph from "Flyboys" by James Bradley (also author of "Flags of Our Fathers") The questions are original and led to the thoughts concerning Hitler / Hussein questions. Both just simple examples of "history repeating itself." Nothing special. I may be crazy.......I ain't the smartest fella ........... but I have read a lot and ......I'm not dumb.
Something else you will never see from the FR Obama water carriers. Not going to post a link. It's out there. Anyone can look if they care to.
Obama administration ok'ed a Soros investment to have the first underwater oil containment in Gulf waters as his administration intentionally cripples our nation's ability to produce energy products. He ok's foreign companies and American companies can't get permits.
We did, and fayse, you have written some powerful things this week, and we hope to read more from you. Funny thing, Bev: I just did a search for what ongoing is blathering on about and you know what I found?
Look it up yourself. Educate yourself. unindoctrinate yourself.....drone
It's real and it's the big O. I bet you can possibly even find it on one of those left leaning waste of broadband sites you so love to cite. Try one of those first.
For starters, cut and pasres with soures provie credibility to arguments. That's why I give them.
So I'm a drone? If that's the case I knock the hell of you lying right wing nutjob conjured up lies and spin. In fact, it's so much spin it makes you dizzy. Hmmmm, maybe that's why you're crazies. I rather be a drone than that a bitter troll at least I can put a stop to the craziness.
Whatever Soros does; still it's better than the polluting Koch Brothers. Google who does more humankind. You'll find it want be the filthy thieving dysfunctional family of Koch Brothers. You do know they were suing over their daddy's wealth.
Bill Koch says that his brother Charles made a fortune stealing oil. Much of it from beneath Indian reservations and federal lands – places like national forests. Oil under federal lands belongs to the public. Koch Industries was the middleman – buying oil from the government at the well – then selling it to refineries. Bill Koch says that the company took more oil than it paid for by cheating on measurements.
A gauger measures the volume and the quality of the oil that his company is buying. The buyer leaves his measurements behind on what’s called a “run ticket.” It’s an IOU to the well owner.
“What Koch was doing was taking all these measurements and then falsifying them on the run sheets,” says Bill Koch
You can't beat a bunch of greedy hoarders when it comes to sibling rivalries.
If were a scion of Koch I'd change my surname due to the tragical family embarrassments and willingness to knowingly destroy the planet. These people are so despicable they make J.R. Ewing look like a philanthropist.
Dennis: I followed this story that ongoing is SOOOO proud of. If you follow the links, it turns out it is a Glenn Beck conspiracy story. This is the typical story that unknowing present as truth, when it is complete and utter nonsense, spread by Beck, who clearly has some mental health issues to those unable to know better than to believe it.
And for poor ongoing who apparently is going to persist in making a fool out of himself: Soros Sells Petrobras Dumps Biggest Company Holding: Business Week/ Aug. 17, 2010.
Dennis, this is SOOOO entertaining: I finally found the Houston Chronicle that ongoing is obsessed with. It makes NO reference to Soros, President Obama, or that some nefarious deal had happened. In fact, it is just a typical business story reporting action by Petrobras and some French company. ongoing, you have NO credibility. You have wasted our time.
Oh, one more thing to embarrass poor ongoing, as though he had not done enough to embarrass himself. If you notice...Soros' investment company had sold off Petrobras in 2010. The story that ongoing is so thrilled with takes place in 2011. Don't listen to Beck? Yeah, right.
You're hilarious. fist of all it has to be a valid address, ONGOING10. Get it? Then FR accepts it.
Do you think for me ONGOING10? If that's the case you're gifted with ESP. You have no idea what's on my mind; unless, of course, you have supernatural powers; which I doubt since you don't even know to predict a lie or navigate the web.
btw: that is not a url you posted; dummy.
When I googled "PETROBAS" here's what I discovered. It is a source from Glenn Beck, who has an oral fixation on Soros, the gate pundit, and Andrew Breibart. As you know he, like that fat tube of lard, Andrew Breibart are abominable LIARS who push conspiracy theories. In fact they're all horrific LIARS...
Beck smears Obama, Soros with conspiracy theory full of falsehoods and absurdities June 21, 2010
Glenn Beck postulated George Soros with the conspiracy theory that the Gulf drilling moratorium is intended to enrich Soros, and included the suggestion that Soros would have Beck killed for advancing the claim.
Exactly what I found Beverly, these guys are so transparent. As soon as you start looking, you know that Beck is involved somewhere. But, this is a non story.
So as you can see that operation took some thought processing.
It was the Bush appointees NOT President Obama!!!
My conclusion is--- you're all a bunch of BOLD faced liars-- when it comes to admitting the truth. I say you bodacious nut jobs should “Bag The Tea” and dump it the toilet. You people are so "disconnected"
FYI: I used my deductive reason to come to that conclusion about rightwing nutjob conspiracy theories. Too bad it's not easy enough for you nut jobs to conclude. But, WTF most of you T-bagger followers have the IQ of a kindergartner!!!
You have proven time and time again you are just a drone. I'm not going to even bother to read your post because if the the past is prologue....it's full of inaccuracies and idiocy. Just like newdaylying.
FYI: I don't know what kind of a coded language you're sending to your other right wing nut job brethren; but "NO" internet protocol begins with HZZZ. It's HTTP (HyperText Markup Language.) Get It?
If newday and I are lying why can't you provide actual proof? We did, It's a lie, which I discovered is a chain e-mail just the others, Muslim, commie etc.
You're a bodacious nutjob, a Koch Sucker, and a FOOL!!!
Who in the world would give a monkey sh!t about your conclusion? That would compare to asking an ant how big the world is.
Keep deferring on the inept person we have as president. I wouldn't doubt you dream about his Koch.
AHhhhh, I see the conversation is getting interesting to you. Finally, you have found a focus which you can discuss easily and piques your interest; NAME CALLING!!!
You are a dolt. Keep posting and let the world wide web see what you are.
"I'm from South Georgia" Let me be the first to say that I am not surprised at that. The ignorance and boorish behavior you display is a neon sign saying "I'm a big old bigot." Let me say this again: you are nothing but a Beckerhead, which is about the most shameful thing you can be. You have proven nothing, there is nothing of substance in what you have posted, and shamefully, the only guy that can't get that is a Southern hick.
I know, Feisty! Is there ANYTHING funnier than someone calling someone else IGNORANT all while displaying their own 'intelligence' in that VERY post?
I do love me some irony!
PS. Popcorn is extra salty today, thanks! I just moved into 1st place in my bracket. It's been a great day. Oh, and just a reminder to the team, when Democrats use FACTS it apparently has the same effect on Repubs as using holy water has on vampires. Just keep that in mind as the Ongoing Nightmare continues to spew his invectives while taking his 'victory' lap. I am LMFAO right now. Good times!
Clara, Feisty, Beverly: Just did some further checking, since these "creatures" are always SOOOOO entertaining. The site that "ongoing" mentions(state of the nation) is a birther site. The story about Soros that he quotes comes from there, having nothing to do with the Houston Chronicle, which "ongoing" mentions. This is very sad. This guy has no clue what a real source looks like, and I think fits exactly STTS in the future. There is no reason to engage with someone who is that far off, as we know you can't bring them back from the precipice. So, ongoing...do enjoy your little mysterious world that you inhabit, but don't waste OUR time with it. We have way more important things to do.
All the rest of you going to contribute your paper route money again?
Is First Read going to stick with the Obama talking point that most of his contributions were under $200? Last time out, those donations accounted for less than 25%- the vast majority of donors contributed much larger amounts.
What is it called when reporters print non- factual accounts because a campaign told them to do so? Oh, yes- now I remember. . .
Propaganda.
Well, it worked, guys. And the rest of the country sees the results.
He captivated America as he appeared on the American political scene as a virtual unknown as he used his mesmerizing effect of his oratorical skills. And they fell for it. They watched in hynoptic fascination as the first Black political figure stormed his way into the Presidency defeating an American war hero and his equally popular partner Sarah Palin. He promised the American people everything they yearned for in that deep throated floating vibrating voice that thrilled millions and the hope of American Blacks, even though it now appears that Barack Obama's murky past was effectively shut down by his political handleers who knew that he was a die-hard Socialist, and given the advice to use his oratory to win over the American masses. This is exactly what he did. Obama stunned the American political pantheon when he campaigned vigorously backed by a huge war chest that included millions of dollars that financed the Internet, television, newspapers, pamphlets, posters, political meeings, forums, discussions, advertisements, door to door ground fighting and political persuasions but one thing kept a steady drumbeat. His deep voice. There was something other than its convincing tenor and political persuading entreaties. For a long time, I was at a loss , lost in that ring of Obama's ability to convince people to do as he liked. It haunted me for years since I first heard him and no matter what argument you're in about Obama, his voice haunts the back of your mind. Again and again, on radio and television his voice punches you, grips you shakes you with its blunt oratory and I try to single out what quality of that voice that convinced the American people other than its promises that made them hynoptic to vote for him. For a long time, his voice baffled me as I strained to dig out that underlying sound that brought him the greatest position in the world and used it to fool a whole nation. Then, I realized that wherever he came from or whatever he was promising the American nation, Barack Obama oratorical voice contained a slight commanding and braying sound to my ears. In fact, he was a man with the hee-haw voice, saying nothing and lost in the silence of a political wilderness of a nation that now rejects him. No one listens to him now.

Bev------Man, I like the popcorn you guys serve up here. Chomp, Chomp, Chomp. First Read lights the fuse and Bev, Fiesty and all the others make the whole show. Without our Republican friends it wouldn't be nearly as much fun. Current Events, Politics, History and the like. The depth of discussion, wit and of course good laughs is unmatched. Thanks guys
That's the awesome thing about FR Tom, the right wing nitwits come here believing they will get away with spreading their mis-information, errr, make that outright lies, the way they do over on Fox & Freaks.
They run head first into the brick wall when they're met with the 'Fact Force'!
With NJNB leading the charge - how ever can things possibly go wrong! *insert snark*
Notice how increasing belligerent they become when proven wrong? lol

No, the UN has bombed Libya unlike Bush's "you're either with us or against us" approach in Iraq.
I do so enjoy the republican dance (not necessarily you JuvenB because I don't recall what you've said previously, but in general) of criticizing President Obama for not doing enough in Libya and now clammoring all over themselves to walk it back to "we shouldn't be involved." The GOPTP's latest Libyan dance confirms my view that the only thing the GOPTP cares about doing is whatever The President is not doing.
Hey Libs and Dems, welcome to the club of President Bush. Barry has bombed Libya.
Well, well a Noble Peace Prize winner committing war acts in Libya.
You can't even distinguish unilateral from multilateral. President Obama is not in the club of oneness and go it along. President Obama did something the arrogant coward, Ggeorge Bush never did. He got a UN resolution.
So you see his negotiable skills and ability to help resole conflicts attests to him receiving the "Nobel Peace Prize". President Obama is clearly demonstrating he'd like to see peace not war like his predecessor did.
FYI: President Barack Obama insisted that U.S. involvement would be limited as part of an international effort to protect Libyan civilians.
Until then your glee is just as pre-mature as you are immature.
Grow up! this is no time to criticize and gloat. America and the world needs your support.
Exactly, Bev. No more Cowboy Diplomacy. And I believe France has taken the lead on this one. I can't wait to hear Glenn Beck defend the 'caliphate' and then take an antiwar stance. It's what these fools live for - complete defiant oppositional behavior.
The contortionism is entertaining anyway. All this pretzel bending makes me thirsty for BEER.
Conservatives criticize Obama when he doesn't act (but instead proceeds bilaterally and deliberately) and then, they criticize him when he does (even when other nations take the lead). Unbelievable.
Glenn Beck has already been for it and then, twenty seconds later, against it.

You don't even need a degree in psychology (although I do have a minor) to predict how the 'leadership' of the Republicans will behave. I can set my watch to it.
I don't know what many know about oppositional defiant behavior; but if it weren't so pathetic - it would be amusing. And coupled with their obvious paranoia; well you see it is a nasty mixture of petulance and fear. I'm not sure if there is a cure; but six more years is going to leave many of them completely rabid.
The simpletons are at it again I see. Poor Fox Propaganda. They no longer get talking points from the White House, so they're clueless. There was a time when the WHouse would email them what to say during the prior Administration.
It's pretty obvious they don't get the memo any longer. It shows. Now they just make stuff up.
Think Progres: Over the last 48 hours, as President Obama contemplated and then authorized U.S.-led military strikes in Libya “in support of an international effort to protect Libyan civilians,” Fox News talking heads have attempted to foment domestic political opposition to the president by questioning his priorities and leadership. Seizing on Obama’s current five-day trip to Brazil and other Latin American countries, Fox pundits have repeatedly said he is distracted in Rio de Janeiro and not adequately focused on the military action in Libya.
“He’s going on vacation; he’s going to Rio!” an incredulous Steve Doocy commented. “He’s on vacation in Rio,” Fox contributor Ralph Peters said, echoing the network’s attack. Referencing Rio, Washington Times columnist Charles Hurt opined, “President Obama has absolutely abdicated his role as leader of the free world.”
Obama’s pre-scheduled Latin American trip is intended to strengthen the U.S.’s trading role with some of the world’s fastest growing markets. But the agenda of the trip has been overshadowed, as Obama has turned his focus to Libya.
Perhaps Fox News pundits should read Fox News’ website. Here’s how Fox’s White House reporter Eve Zibel, who is traveling with Obama on the trip, reported on the president’s priorities on his first day:
Libya Dominates President Obama’s First Day in South America
On the first day of President Obama’s first trip to South America, it was not relations with Brazil or its president that was front and center, but instead, attention was directly focused on Libya and the start of military action.
On a Fox website, a Reuters report states, “Obama’s only planned sightseeing in Rio will be to the city’s iconic Christ the Redeemer hilltop statue, and even that had to be postponed from morning until evening to give him time for early briefings on the Libyan situation.”
Despite the evidence from news reports on Fox’s own websites that Obama is focused on Libya, network pundits continue to seize on any shallow criticism of the Commander-in-Chief.
____________
Shallow criticism? It's out and out lying. They have no clue what President Obama is dealing with behind the scenes. A few days ago it was brackets. Which to me highlighted that the President of the United States was taking an interest in our young athletes. It would have been a pity if he ignored them.
I just went over to Fox News to see how they were reporting this. Now I know why I don't follow Fox News.
The basic reporting was not too bad. But the comments were rabid. And based largely on misinformation. Although I was tempted to comment, I sensed that I would be shouted down. I'll contend with the conservative opinions on this site, thank you.
The simpletons are at it again I see. Poor Fox Propaganda. They no longer get talking points from the White House, so they're clueless.

Indeed Pat
When I woke up this morning I flipped over to see what lies I'd need to correct today.
Lo and behold, one of the monkey girls (ladies who hold their jobs down by showing their tails) said Hillary was the only one in the White House who has shown leadership on Libya.
I nearly fell out of my seat. A few days ago they were saying Hillary is leaving.
You can tell the FOXITES are up to their usual tactics--divide and conquer with lies and innuendoes.
Also...
Sarah Palin now is also mad at India's lamestream media
On one of her rare overseas trips, the former governor shuts out the press, as usual
In addition to the shopping trip, IRTV had also reported that some people at India Today weren't happy with the selection of Palin as a keynote speaker, on account of her being a no-account failed former politician with a shrinking base of support and a mostly illusory influence on American affairs. But following her speech, there will be a Q&A, which might be entertaining
Moments after Sarah Palin said she wouldn't criticize Barack Obama abroad, She Does Sarah Palin in India on Saturday said that if she were president there would have been "less dithering, more decisiveness" on Libya.
I'm still waiting for McCain to tell us where Osama is.
Um, Feisty - I think you'll be wearing the KU shirt at the meetup. Can you believe this game? Sorry, babe, it's all in good fun. And I'll make the caramels anyway!
Most of us spend that amount a day on a latte or lunch – I challenge YOU to match the giving spirit exhibited by a little boy!
http://www.redcross.org/m
LMFAO!
Excellent Red!!
See you at the INN!
:-)
We've got a bar stool with your name on it waiting for you! ;o)
don't start calling me "Noooooooorrrrrmmmm"
Would you prefer 'rooster' instead? ;o) LMAO!
Sorry I missed it - been a busy day. What was the "Spanky's grama's" comment?
I got a horrendous weekend and first part of the week - up in Central California chasing settlement money so could definately use a good laugh. And one thing I'm good at is laughing at myself.
Thanks Fiesty! Didn't see your welcome until Sunday afternoon. Spanky's Grammy will love the notes of encouragement.

Bev,
You equate terrorists to the President of the United States, compare him to Hitler.
If I were you rather than morally criticizing me, I would think your time and energy might be better spent learning more about the cultural differences in warfare.
Even In the HBO television series The Sopranos, mafia boss, Tony Soprano, began reading The Art of War upon the recommendation of his psychiatrist,
If you must spend your time worrying, I would suggest you be a patriotic American and pray , if you pray, or engage in positive thinking about war with Libya, and the devastation caused by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
bob-1805084
Also, did you not here the President's speech in Brazil? The President spoke about the promotion of peace not just in the same hemisphere we share with Brazil; but the enduring values of every human being's yearn for improvement of increased value over what has been the case. This leads to a more peaceful co-existence. These also, are the American values President George Bush abandoned with his "cowboy go it along diplomacy"
Again, we see why our President is so worthy of the ‘Novel Peace Prize”. It’s that kind of leadership which pulls the world toward becoming a better place for a human consumption.
This says a lot.
You're WELCOME Grimey!
I told you before, he's got a great Dad & role model! ;o)
Did you say spicy NDD? *ears perk up* lol
As many of you already know, I'm a cat woman myself, but you ALL need to check out this video of a dog and his'/her partner in Japan.
If it doesn't leave you with a tear in your eye - you have NO heart OR soul!

Good Morning NDD! I found the story on what the tea baggers are up to and wanted to share with those who may be unfamiliar with the right wingers waging war on women's reproductive health:
How do you 'sucker's who voted for the Teapublicans that RAN on JOB creation feel now?
Happy Saturday newdayDAWNING10
The Republicans didn't want to forget children, so they are also wanting to cut WIC funds and Head Start funding, and don't forget Big Bird
I couldn't have said it any better for this group of miscreants. They act like a bunch of astray depraved evildoers living during the Spanish Inquisition working assiduously in search of people to torture.

Sorry to hear that IRV is not feeling well. have a safe weekend
Get well soon, IR!!
Sounds wonderful, Steeler Fan, though hard to beat the St. Paddy's party.
Since 99% of you moonbats have a snout firmly in the public trough, raise a glass to your erstwhile employers, the hardworking private sector , who (what a concept) actually support themselves, as well as subsidizing the parasites......
Sorry Bob....can't chat right now. Fire sirens just went off. Time to go save some parasites. Have a great weekend.
Well look at that! The Booby twins are here!
And NO, you can't come into the Dew Drop Inn!
She's referring to the bob of this thread and the bob below; but you'd know that if you read for COMPREHENSION.
She and Chris and I are good friends and we go WAY back. Thanks for playing, though.
Can they get any dumber Clara? lol
A Test Liberals Will Not Pass
With the events in Libya, many here at FR have been making references to Bush and Iraq. Most is the same old tired refrains along the lines of “Cowboy Bush”; “Bush sacrificed 4,400 at the altar of ideology.” etc.
What if we looked at things in general, without the Bush or Obama, Right vs. Left context, but a purely historic context?
What if I said that we have a situation where history has shown - that it is a historical fact that we had:
1. An evil dictator who had demonstrated aggressiveness by invading his neighbors on several occasions;
2. An evil dictator who had gassed his own people;
3. An evil dictator who had conducted ethnic cleansing;
4. An evil dictator who had successfully ordered an assassination on a foreign leader;
5. An evil dictator who had violated the terms of an armistice of a previous war;
6. An evil dictator who had intentionally manipulated and deceived a world organization whose sole, primary purpose was to insure peace;
Did Booby say something?
ITAH! From the sound of booby - he's been hitting that Scotch pretty hard again...
Any guesses where booby plagiarized that rant from?
It's MORE than obvious that's above his pay grade! lol
Hey Feisty,
Thanks for the link, I won't forget either story.
newday,
I promised I would post the full Nazi stuff the next day and as I stated we could have it out and put the Nazi crap to rest.
I would prefer to never use it, but if you guys want to have it out that's fine.
z
Navy: like I said; you win BIG! Poor bobby is STILL squirming!
Rick, Ky-
Honestly, Rick...
Shouldn't your questions be addressed to President Obama?
Isn't he responsible for providing the answers to those questions?
The President and his foreign policy team have weighed the options and he has made a decision.
Do you really believe he hasn't thought this through?
Sorry, Rick...
Thanks, Lisa-
I know and appreciate, from my own experience, the sacrifices you and your family are making to keep the U.S.
Depends,.....did Hitler have oil or not?
Bwahahaha
Just something to think about.
Thanks for your comments US Navy.
Hi, Bob.
Sad.
And good old "I'm above it all" Candice. Wouldn't that be a partisan attack Candice? Hmmmm? They just don't come more right wing then you do.
Candice, Bartlett, IL Happy Saturday
Hi, Bob.
You won’t likely get a discussion from the left on that one. Excellent points.
I believe President Bush meant to show the middle east what striving for democracy can do.
Really????
What is about you righties and historical timeline? Do you just not know it, are delusional; or is it you change facts around to fit your narratives?
In the right's loquacious rudeness it might surprise you to know Bush is a LIAR.
1. Former Argentine president says Bush, who was never elected, told him ‘the best way to revitalize the economy is war'.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x4402494

The PNAC document supports a 'blueprint for maintaining global US pre-eminence, precluding the rise of a great power rival, and shaping the international security order in line with American principles and interests'.
This 'American grand strategy' must be advanced for 'as far into the future as possible', the report says. It also calls for the US to 'fight and decisively win multiple, simultaneous major theatre wars' as a 'core mission'.

4. Commerce Dept docs: Cheney and oil execs decided to take Iraq's oil in spring 2001

So all these bizarre comparisons you and bob make pale in comparison to real reasons megal manic bush went to wae.
I do not believe our president is a proud torture; that is one more, reason, I believe, he so deserved the Nobel Peace Award. A good president will do what is best for his/her country; not for their ownselfish greed and power.
Here's hoping after viewing the truth your weekend is still good.
'
Words fail me, Beverly. Even for Bush, that is pretty bad. Have a great weekend!
You too newday
There is a guy Bush gave an interview during his time as governor. In it he told the author if he could start a war he'd be great president. Unfortunately, I can't remember the author's name. I did google it instead of finding it I stumbled on those links. If I had more time, I'd continue the search. But, for now these will have to do.
I still believe the right will continue its quest to glorify former President GW Bush, just like they did Reagan, and discredit our President, a Nobel Peace winner.
Hello Candice,
And with the freedom and individual rights, beyond the proud "purple fingers" - the hope and chance for a better material life for their children.
Nice to see you, have a good weekend.
bob-1805084
If it turns out the multilateral as opposed to unilateral America's face will not look like ocuppiers. .
Personally, I see Georgie boy as a lying punk who is no different from a gangster looking for turf, power, and wealth. Georgie boy f'd up our economy, the Middle East; and as result I see him and his cronies no different than Hitler who wanted to rule the world based upon my research of Georgie boy.
What cracks me up about this thread is that Candice and bob pretend they don't drink koolaid.
Everybody say, "Hook, Line & Sinker!"
Hey, No Joe.
Happy St.
"the sky must really be plaid in Obamaland, where reality never intrudes." Nope, that is no jo land.
Hello, Newday.
Dear Newday.
Candice,
For instance, this thing about was a total waste of i.e. stall the law was already there.
no joe, no bo, nj

And by the way, Candice, read Beverly's post. You might learn something.
Sorry, Bev, but the yellowcake WAS there
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25546334/ns/world_news-mideast/n_africa/
Note the source? There are others. It was removed from Iraq in the summer of 2008, and shipped to Canada.
Naturally, there was a lot of secrecy about this- we did not want it to fall into the wrong hands. However, the removal, once accomplished, was widely heralded.
There are still those who seek to deny the truth- however, the proof is there.
Newday,
The ugliest times and events in the history of our otherwise great country usually took place when close-minded, shallow and frightened citizens stereotyped and categorized people into groups and assigned blanket ideology to those groups.
Bev,
Suicide bombers disguise themselves.
Clara,
Actually, I was more of a Hawaian Punch kinda of guy.
And I wish the native Hawaian in the White House had a little internaional punch, had a back bone ........
Newday:
Silly, Newday. I was parroting YOU: "Why do right wingers hate America and want her to fail?"
Both questions are provocative. You were too obtuse to see it.
newday,
Patriotism is a love and defense of country, not a man.
Yep.
Why do I picture Candy & Bob wrapping themselves in a flag prior to posting their drivel?
Me thinks Candy's thoughtless wall is too full to support another homily... just a hunch! ;o)
Yep, and bob is dancing right to the edge of birtherism...game, set, and match to NDD!
Hardly.
I told you no. I asked you a question. Your answer was: “Don’t ask me!”
Take a deep breath and go back and read my posts. As long as you label everyone with “as a whole” you perpetuate the shallow stereotyping and categorizing I pointed out.
An effort I support. Unfortunately Bev compares our military to suicide bombers. "A suicide bomber is not different from bombing a population of people who did nothing to our country."
It’s all about perception and appearances.
I respect the office of President. I also respect the foundation on which our country was formed – freedom of speech and loyal opposition. Patriotism, Newday, is not swallowing policy hook, line and sinker when those policies, in one’s opinion, are wrong.
Then, we agree.
Has President Obama called a segment of our population nutcases? I must have missed that.
Good advice. You might want to consider that yourself. If ever you'd like to have a thoughtful discussion on policy, let me know.
An effort I support. Unfortunately Bev compares our military to suicide bombers. "A suicide bomber is not different from bombing a population of people who did nothing to our country."
I repeat what I to ...
Bob, you can not reshape the purposes and limits to war. There are so many factors you are not taking into account such as religion, society, and politics when you trace back the origins of other cultures historical warfare and how they impact the real problems of today’s armed conflicts.
Candice,
There seem to be some disconnects in your arguments: The job of The Right is NOT to just oppose anything that the Left does, it is their JOB to take care of the needs of the American Public, not, this does NOT mean to just take care of the Fabulously rich that pay their campaign costs etc.
Candice, Bartlett, IL
In addition to what I said to bob-1805084, you must admit newdayDAWNING10 is correct about patriotism.
B. Honest.
Lord, have mercy, Beverly.
I was going to respond to you, but you've gone over the edge.
B. Honest
Candice,

You took the words right out of my mouth. I was just about ready to elucidate on the disconnect and failure of the GOP/T-bagger Party.
Thank you
The underpinnings of the basic tenets of the Founding Fathers does not include spinning dishonest interpretations of their documents.
But, if you leave it to the GOP/T-bagger Party the middle and poorer classes of America will be carrying a hobo stick soon.
Why is it so difficult for them to see it?
I am now so done with the liberal talking point on where Bush was when the attackers hit the Towers

Look at that picture!
He sent then planes BEFORE this was taken.
His presidency is the worst joke ever visited on the American people.
She's talking about 'W'... right?
Maybe, she should lay off her Italian puff pastries - the hallucinations are growing more severe!
Can you IMAGINE what she's going to sound like after 6 MORE years of a Obama Presidency? LMAO!
Candice:
Good afternoon Feisty
She's talking about 'W'... right?
Can you IMAGINE what she's going to sound like after 6 MORE years of a Obama Presidency? LMAO!
Yes I can.
I see a fat blimp floating in the atmosphere yelling Noooooooooooooo Noooooooooooooooooo.
Where does no jo come up with this nonsense Feisty? Bev, B.Honest! Good to see you both on this fine Sunday. Always good to read truth and honesty from people.
B.honest. The democrats are the representatives of 96% of the populace?
You happen to tune in to the news on November 3, 2010? Read a paper?
Cause, the majority of the electorate beg to differ with you.
Candice, Bartlett, IL
Lord, have mercy, Beverly.
I was going to respond to you, but you've gone over the edge.
Whoa Candice,
Speaking of limits, don't tell me you are so blind you don't recognize innuendoes? Your t-baggers and people with rabid right inclinations have made our handsome, intelligent, your whipping boy because you relish taking your country back to the 18th century.
Don't let the NJ dingbat take off your message B. Honest!
Yes, we got a shellacking in November - what granny poll dancer deliberately omits, is the polling showing a WHOLE LOT of buyers remorse going on...
Expected & totally typical!
Those coat tails they're riding have been sent to the cleaners... LMAO!

Whoa Candice,
Speaking of limits, don't tell me you are so blind you don't recognize innuendoes? Your t-baggers and people with rabid right inclinations have made our handsome, intelligent, President your whipping boy because you relish taking your country back to the 18th century.
B. Honest -
I don’t remember the Republicans declaring this was THE WAY IT NEEDED TO BE: ALL AMERICANS HAVE TO SUPPORT THE PRESIDENT OR YOU ARE NOT BEING PATRIOTIC ENOUGH!
(Correcting my typo)
In my view, the Democrats, especially lately, are not focusing on 96% of Americans. They are focusing on only 12% of populace – unions. They certainly don’t seem to be working for me.
Candice,
One, not all unions are specifically Democrat, and Two, The Dems ARE focusing on what is best for EVERYBODY: poor, middle class, working class AND the wealthy, while the Repubs are only working for the top 2% of the wealthy, this is plain fact and takes very little research time to prove.
Peace.
*yawn* And you accomplished what Booby?
it's like bob is debating his other brother bob

Explanation on why it is not Pearl Hrabour, 1941:
Now for something younwould never see in an article on First Read
http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/cbo-obama-policies-would-require-deficits-of-95-trillion-through-2021/2011/03/18/ABnyUfq_story.html?hpid=z3
So, Obama underestimates how much his policies will increase the debt by $2.3 trillion. Why am I not shocked?
I sometimes wonder how anyone can support this completely wretched presidency- then I remember that these are adults who live in an imaginary world.
Too bad for the rest of us that reality is far different from their perception.

When you can't provide your source, you have no credibility!!!
Guys we forget to welcome newbie fayse to the Dew Drop Inn.
We did, and fayse, you have written some powerful things this week, and we hope to read more from you. Funny thing, Bev: I just did a search for what ongoing is blathering on about and you know what I found?
NOTHING!
ONGOING10
Ahhhhh...lookee there...
it's ol' cut and paste Bev......

Ongoing,
Your link does not work.
Even when I copy and paste into my browser it is not a valid address.
Until you can give a valid source (link or name, date and author of the article) then you continue to be a fraud.

You people are so stupid it should be a crime against humanity.

Substitute . for — to get the link. FR and Newsvine doesn't allow links which dispute the O's position. Or do you know how to do that?
BTW...That's the Houston Chronicle. Not a conservative paper but they do care about the oil industry in Houston.
Bev
You cut and paste because you have no idea what goes on. Just what the left tells you,.
ONGOING10
In fact they're all horrific LIARS...

http://politisite.com/2010/06/21/soros-invested-in-petrobras-days-before-obama-invested-billions-special-prosecutor-needed/
On the other hand I discovered this..
Beck smears Obama, Soros with conspiracy theory full of falsehoods and absurdities
June 21, 2010
Glenn Beck postulated George Soros with the conspiracy theory that the Gulf drilling moratorium is intended to enrich Soros, and included the suggestion that Soros would have Beck killed for advancing the claim.

Then I fact checked ....
Bogus Brazilian Oil Claims
September 18, 2009
Q: Did Obama loan $2 billion to Brazil’s oil company to benefit China and George Soros?
A: The president had nothing to do with the loan, which the Export-Import Bank approved for Brazil to buy U.S.-made equipment and services.

Exactly what I found Beverly, these guys are so transparent. As soon as you start looking, you know that Beck is involved somewhere. But, this is a non story.
ONGOING10
You're all a bunch of Koch suckers. I think

If newday and I are lying why can't you provide actual proof? We did, It's a lie, which I discovered is a chain e-mail just the others, Muslim, commie etc.

Why I'm SHOCKED - do you mean they're trying to sneak in a Beckerhead link as credible?
*damn this popcorn is GOOD*
Keep up the nice work ladies - and you too Dennis! Nothing funnier to watch than a tea bagger get spanked!
PS; Speaking of monkey sh!t - am I the only one who's noticed the similarities between ongoing & howler monkeys?

Ditto other cut and pastes as you call them. I don't cut and paste.
You would be well served to look up the definition of irony - before you continue to entertain us!

Good Morning Girls!
@ Clara: Congrats on your brackets! :o)

They run head first into the brick wall when they're met with the 'Fact Force'!
With NJNB leading the charge - how ever can things possibly go wrong! *insert snark*
Notice how increasing belligerent they become when proven wrong? lol
Ahhh... Good Times & lots of *popcorn*!
Tom ,Yreka
Bev------Man, I like the popcorn you guys serve up here. Chomp, Chomp, Chomp. First Read lights the fuse and Bev, Fiesty and all the others make the whole show. Without our Republican friends it wouldn't be nearly as much fun. Current Events, Politics, History and the like. The depth of discussion, wit and of course good laughs is unmatched. Thanks guys
Thanks Tom
I'll drink to that
Our rightie emigrates who flock here are witless offerings to the cause; unfortunately.
Hey Libs and Dems, welcome to the club of President Bush. Barry has bombed Libya.

Hi Clara
Get a load of this Beckerism. It's hillarious.
Beck got Upset that President Obama Didn’t Act On Libya -- Then, 20 Seconds Later, Starts Crying That President Obama Did

Bev,
You don't even need a degree in psychology (although I do have a minor) to predict how the 'leadership' of the Republicans will behave.

I bet if they could, the Right would criticize Obama for hanging out too long in the Bathroom.
The've already accused him of being everything but the KKK Grand Wizard.
They already have.... There is NO pleasing the haters!
President Obama could cure cancer and they would still b!tch about something or other!
I'm still waiting for McCain to tell us where Osama is.
Um, Feisty - I think you'll be wearing the KU shirt at the meetup. Can you believe this game? Sorry, babe, it's all in good fun. And I'll make the caramels anyway!
