From NBC's Courtney Kube
Asked about a possible cease-fire in Libya, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called the situation "fluid and dynamic," but warned the Libyan regime that the U.S. is "not going to be responsive or impressed by words," and that the U.S. "would have to see actions on the ground."
She said that the situation is not yet at all clear, but that the U.S. will continue to work with their international partners to press Khaddafy to leave.
Clinton said the international community will need to see a clear set ofactions operationalized on the ground, and that Khaddafy's forces must move a "significant distance" away from the East. She added that there has to be an accounting for of what has already happened, and that Khaddafy has left the international community with "no other choice" but to pursue the course of action taken with the U.N. Security Council Resolution.
After meeting with her Irish counterpart, Deputy Prime Minister Eamon Gilmore, Clinton said that the U.N. resolution is just one step, and that the international community will continue to consider other options and explore the most effective measures for dealing with Khaddafy.
Clinton also stressed that it is important to take this "one step at a time," adding that the diplomatic effort over the past few weeks has been "very intense" leading up to last night's vote.

What a refreshing change of pace...
Slow & steady instead of, shoot first and ask questions later...
I'm relieved the days of 'guns a blazin' are behing us!
Thank you Mr. President & Madam Secretary for cooler heads prevailing!
Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL
Slow & steady instead of, shoot first and ask questions later...
I'll drink to that GF
The goons over at Radio Rwanda aka Fox Noise because they bombard the air waves with fear daily like Radio Rwanda are smearing President and lying on SoS.
They claim she's quitting.
So when can we expect an article here about the fact that Hillary will not be coming back, and why?
Bev. - "Radio Rwanda?" Why prey tell would you choose Rwanda? Come on humour us with a response. And let's let the Friday Follies begin!
Also Bev. what's your opinion on Rangel calling for a draft? Gosh, if only Obama would pull out of Afghanistan and Iraq, we'd have plenty of troops.
Follies, Friday. Go.
You said it Feisty. President Obama, Vice President Biden, Sec. of State Hillary Clinton weren't all over tv these past few weeks acting all macho for the cameras. They're doing all this behind the scenes. It's stunning.
President Obama's maternal ancestry came from Ireland to America in 1850. And they gave us this African American President. It's truly unbelievable how far we have come. And I believe his presidency is having a huge impact all over the world.
Despite slavery, look how far we have come. As Beverly loves to say, we are all connected. This is what freedom gives us.
Barack Obama is a mature intelligent leader and there seems to be leaders from around the world who feel the same way.
People may not recognize it yet, but as we see this vote last night in the UN, there seems to be some sort of Renaissance going on. Right before our eyes.
I'll give him credit, he did pick 14 out of 16 games correct yesterday in the NCAA tournament.
Clinton to Libya: U.S. not 'impressed by words'
__________________________________________
If that were true, Barry Obama would never have won the 2008 election.
The Obama Diary: http://theobamadiary.com/
Irish Times: I’m about to top up a pint here to toast Obama,” Moneygall publican Ollie Hayes said over the din in his eponymous pub last night. While the small Offaly village did not have a St Patrick’s Day parade yesterday, the pub, with both American and Irish flags waving proudly outside, was the place to be last night.
It was there that locals gathered yesterday for the six o’clock news to cheer the long-awaited confirmation that US president Barack Obama would visit the place from which his ancestor Fulmuth Kearney left for New York in the mid-19th century. Residents of the village – population 298, according to the last census – were yesterday revelling in the news.
“People are walking around with great big smiles on their faces,” Canon Stephen Neill said. The Church of Ireland rector’s research uncovered the records that cemented Mr Obama’s connection to the area. “When I actually discovered the record a shiver literally went down my spine,” he said yesterday. “The whole thing has been a roller coaster – sometimes you think it’s all just a dream.”
Off topic, but just saw a breaking news headline:
"Wisconsin Law Curbing State Workers Collective Bargaining Blocked By Judge"
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-03-18/wisconsin-law-curbing-state-workers-collective-bargaining-blocked-by-judge.html
Next breaking headline : Democratic senators in Wisconsin packin' up and heading out.
They better hurry.
But say, didn't one of them propose a bill to prevent future "Run Away!" tactics?
Joe in Albany,
Joe, you are just mad you guy didn't win it in 2008....he was busy tap dancing and singing " Bomb, bomb, bomb....bomb bomb Iran" to his top donors....
As long as we are on it:
Spanky-

Even though you think you are, you're not exactly Mensa material.
There has been a stay . Apparently you misunderstood what you read.
FYI: CREW (Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington) has struck another blow for what is right. They are charging that Koch Henchman Scott Walker violated state law by sending state troops after missing legislator:
[snip]
Governor Walker is apparently no more aware of the law than any of the other new crop of Republican elected officials.
In CREW’s letter, Melanie Sloan states that,
http://www.politicususa.com/en/crew-walker-violating-law
See Spanky-
That is what happens when you only graduate from high school. Gov Snot Walker, the Koch Addict, should not have cheated in college.
Bev. - where does CREW get it's money? Oh yeah, Sooros.
Me in Mensa? Not a chance.
Hey Bev. what college did you graduate from?
Yes, Feisty Redhead ...
Cool heads are what's needed in these volatile situations.
But, then, we knew that would be Obama's M.O. :)
They don't call him 'No Drama Obama' for nothing Michael! ;o)
World to Obama administration, world not "impressed by words"...for that matter...neither are U.S. voters as indicated by the loss of the independent voting base last November.
true american and spanky - ya gotta love bev, she does try. Besides some of her links are quite informative in proving her conclusions to be but half truths or totally wrong. If she learned how to look at both sides she would be an asset to FR posts.
Matthew down in texas is impressed by Obamas "intelligence" after all he does have a doctorate.
Unfortunately, he considers bush2 as an incompetent because of his only carrying a "C" average at yale and that he only has a MBA from harvard.
But yet both have resided in the oval office. I would say scholary intelligence or GDP has little to do with effective leadership.
.True American...........So you prefer'Shock and Awe' diplomacy huh ?...well... That is why America has become so disliked around the world, the world is fed up with our bully approach to everything. Although I am not satisfied with how slowly this process progressed, an international partnership was the right way to address Gadhafi and send a message to other oppressive governments in the region.
Spanky........Though I think Rangel has overstayed his welcome, he is right about the need for a draft in times of war..........If the elitist, or their children were required to participate in defense of America or her interests there would be fewer who prefer the 'Shock and Awe, go it alone' approach
american-2051576,
I beg to differ in a lil way, while being scholarly intelligence has very little to do with effective leadership... what you get is an effective dumb leader... decisive and convincing, but always leading us in the wrong path - can you say GW? I say that while being able to lead is important... it's also important for a sitting US president to be intellectually capable. Or else his advisors words would be over his/her head and would listen to what anyone tells him - ala "the world is on fire because Sadam wants to end our way of life"...
MARCH 19, 2011
OBAMA: 'Today we are part of a broad coalition. We are answering the calls of a threatened people. And we are acting in the interests of the United States and the world'...
MARCH 19, 2003
BUSH: 'American and coalition forces are in the early stages of military operations to disarm Iraq, to free its people and to defend the world from grave danger'...
Ok all you hypocrites, now lets see your lies and distortions on why Obama's war is OK and Bush's is not. What a joke this President is. Where is all the outrage about WAR. Oh ya thats right it is our golden boys war... LOL Repeal Obama and his his Health Care mess......
Caradjt,
Dude/Dudeth... are you really dense? War is never OK, be it president Bush or Obama.... at the time Bush sent us to war in Iraq, we weren't watching on a daily basis a dictator killing his own people on TV and threatening to kill thousands more by the next morning as a result of their seeking a democracy. This is situation with Libya... there were no uprising in Bagdad, they were living in fear, but at least felt somewhat safe.... now that Bush's war has killed over 100,000 Iraqi civilians... we can say Bush's war was the worst war of mankind.... I know, I know.... not that much Americans died compared to Vietnam War, but still 4,400 lost lives in Iraq isn't worth the life of Saddam Hussein and his boys - I know to you, the 100,000 Iraqi lives don't count...
In Libya, the effort is not lead by the US (although we are supplying some weapons and tactical logistics), but by the French and British....they have more of a vested intestered in Libyan security - the US has very little interest in Libya besides bringing Gadhafi to justices for his past terrorist crimes against US (PAN AM - Lockerbie Bombing)... and various other bombings. Why did Bush attack Iraq?
And the main difference, Bush engineered the Iraq war and drew the rest of the world into it... Obama on the other hand was reluctant about Libya, but was sucked into it as the situation got even more dire; and you already had the French and the British readying to pounce on Libya... VERY VERY DIFFERENT SITUATION, MY DEAR FRIEND.. do you get it now?
Before you post next time, think before you actually post it because there are people waiting an ready to debunk your falsehoods - this isn't fox news here, OK?
Feisty,
You love the Bamster, but reaLLY, he's "no drama Obama"? You and Bev - aka From Chicago, need to get real. Obama is more like Prince Hamlet vowing to do what is right but can't seem to act in time. In the mean time, a lot f bodies will pile up through his indecision and hesitancy.
"to be, or not to be" Obama is the question.
Feisty -
But in the end, it really doesn't matter, does it? If President Obama had shot first and asked questions later, like his predecessor whose name we're not supposed to mention, the right would have been all over him for not waiting to explore diplomatic channels, get more detailed intelligence reports, and get at least some backing from our allies - oh, not to mention shrieking about "spending, spending, spending".
I believe it was Jody who gave us a quote a while back on the subject of 'doing the right thing':
"Damned if you do, damned if you don't. So you might as well".
Reminds me of the quote from Secretary Clinton JoAnne, I'm sure you remember this - to paraphrase:
Yup, Ole' whatshisname would have invaded.......boots on the ground.......unfunded...more precious lives lost and destroyed on both sides!
As a reminder, I visited the Center for the Intrepid, at Fort Sam Houston this week.....I saw what appeared to me something like a Mother or Father leading their children across the street...Therapists/Medical professionals in front of the line followed by soldiers (male, female, black, white, hispanic) with new prosthesis learning to walk again....then more Medical professionals bringing up the rear! Loving, caring, guiding, encouraging!
The scene brought tears to my eyes and sorrow to my heart......
Lies told by the previous adminstration.........'cowboy mentality'!
Hey Feisty do you think Hillary has a particularly high opinion of Obama now? How about Bill C?
Why do you think she's done?
Come Feisty - try some substance on this one. What the heck it's Friday, and you will be three sheets to the wind in what, like 3 hours?
JoAnne in PA, I was just thinking "what would Condelezza Rice have done?"
Do you remember any diplomatic action Secretary Rice undertook during the Bush (oops, sorry, mentioned his name) administration that actually turned out right? Me neither.
Hillary has turned out to be an excellent diplomat.
Amy -
No, not offhand - but that's not to say there wasn't one. My view of Secretary Rice was that she always seemed a heck of a lot smarter than her boss. But I believe that comes under the heading of "damning with faint praise".....
You're right, JoAnne---I don't think there is anything the President could do that would satisfy his critics. It is a sad commentary on the polarization of our country.
I am glad that he and his team keep doing what they think it best and I find it refreshing that it is done so often behind-the-scenes. I have trust in them and don't feel that I need to know every detail of sensitive negotiations.
Please Insult Me!: "as someone on here stated earlier Obama could strangle a puppy and the left wingers would praise him for his "strength."
I think any regular reader of FR knows exactly who that poster is - and she must have a real fetish about puppy-strangling, because she uses that exact same line at least once a week. Must be really popular in New Jersey.....
Excellent clairvoyant capabilities. Can I have the Lotto numbers for next week please?
Sure, no problem! Let's go with 20-something, 59-ish, 16 going on 17, Ninety-eleven, and 25 or 6 to 4. The Powerball is Pennsylvania 6-5000. And since my clairvoyant capabilities sadly stop where anything remotely resembling gambling begins, your chances of winning are Less Than Zero. But just in case, please donate my share of the winnings to Obama/Biden 2012. Oh, and since you're a Beatle Baby, make sure to play all Eight Days A Week! :)
Nobody's impressed by your words either Hillary or the empty suit called O-Blah-ma you represent. Save your breath for yelling at Bill, when he messes around on you again.
Feisty "old girl", shall we get a pool going, to see how long it takes for someone to get on here and ridicule what you have written?
Oooops- looks like I may be a little slow on the ol' send key. Some Einstein just found a way to work Bill and Monica into the mix. And for God's sake, don't you dare mention George Whats-iz-name.
Come on Drive By, where's the sport in that?
A far better pool would be one that monitors whether Feisty ever actually 1. writes something of substance, or 2. writes a comment without calling someone a name.
I was thinking along the lines of a 'pool' about how long the comment stands before it's collapsed! LOL
Yes, kudos to Obama's NCAA picks, 14 out of 16 correct.
However, on the flip side , in the election tournament in 2012, 14 of 16 of President Obama's selected Democrat Senators will lose.. panicked Democrats will encourage Obama to visit one of his ancestral homelands for the duration of the campaign...
Aw- now ya gone and made so mad, I wanna strangle a puppy.
Well, at least the old goats laid off the 'drown a kitten' line for a while!
She's more focused on unicorns these days! ;o)
I like watching the GOP scramble around trying to figure out who of their own to attack or throw on the fire next. Like watching snakes bite one another.
Go for it drive by, I am sure your local human society is non partisan and would gladly present you to your locals as a molester.
Anyone see the new headline, a judge has said the WI law taking away the union rights is no good.
Can't wait to see why.... I hope its because it violates the US Constitution, which that law does.
Oh, no, those dem senators better hit the road again, and quick!
"I hope its because it violates the US Constitution, which that law does."
Probably not unconstitutional, because we havent located these constitutional amendments in the text, yet:
"No lazy slug union member can ever be fired, disciplined or otherwise touched from their lifetime free ride"
"collective bargaining must be imposed whether you like it or not, or else Richard Trumkas's thugs will get you"
Poor things, and they just got home. I doubt they even had a chance to send their expense vouchers to the AFL-CIO yet.
Maybe head over to Minnesota this time. You know spread the wealth to some other Motel 6.
JoAnnaSmith1
Poor things, and they just got home. I doubt they even had a chance to send their expense vouchers to the AFL-CIO yet.
Maybe head over to Minnesota this time. You know spread the wealth to some other Motel 6.
Actually, JoAnnaSmith1, I heard Senator Lena Taylor the runaway whom I like to call Harriet Tubman-- say they paid out of their own pocket-- and Snot Walker can't fine them either.
She got her law degree here in the Chicago land from Northwestern. Where did The Koch Addict Walker get his college degree? You can't say; can you?
Beverly - you do make it easy for me. Where in any state constitution or US constitution does it say a degree is required to hold a political office within the USA. I know of age restrictions and that the pres has to be born in the US. Heck, even an Austrian has held the position of governor. What is your point?
American,
I believe her point was that the reason Walker didn't get his degree was because he was kicked out of college for cheating. That's different than "just not having a degree" don't you think?
rescue dog - I said that a having a degree has little to nothing to do with becoming an elected official, whereas bev implies that a politician should. If you want to pin anything on walker go for it with a link from the university publicly dept. stating that was why walker didn't graduate.
Bev was on point with her observations, just not on point about politicians being better if they had a degree. Politicians stay elected in so far as they can make the majority of voters voting that they are doing what they were elected to do.
That's funny Hillary cause that's all we are now. But so they look true you have to slaughter your own citizens in the most barbaric ways, so neutralization of life looks organic, as you bake others from every angle for as long as you need to in order to ensure they can be destabilized at a moments notice.
How many people have to be screwed into a humiliating position before you convince yourself you are doing more good than harm?
Oh well...
How many people have been slaughtered while this Regime has delayed any action? But what do you expect from a man child and a overblown broad.
I thought the Right's plan was to slaughter Muslims at every opportunity. You know, glass parking lot and all that. But no, it's actually to oppose the current administration at every turn, even when they do exactly what you wanted them to do last week.
That's a very ineffective ploy for winning independent votes, which you need - and desperately.
Nice gesture Hillary, you're certainly showing your inner maleness. But seeing Qaddafi holds most of the country, and more importantly the oil fields, just what is the plan Sir Hillary? Now Qaddafi says he's through fighting, are you going to attack a sovereign country that isn't fighting? The Arabs will love that. They already love the fact that you let this go on until it didn't matter any more, pulling out your big stick when the decision was already in the books. Day late, and a dollar short as it were.
But I'm sure you're monitoring the situation, just like your boss.
So what's the plan Hillary? And who do you have winning the George Mason/Villanova game?
Funny how True American was attacking Obama on the other article for (not doing enough). I really am sickened by your cult's hypocracy.
Hey Anon, did you check with Ms Anon before posting to make sure it was OK with her? You sound SOOOOOOO much like Anon on the Richmond Times Disgrace vine.
You have a twin brother or something, maybe you were even cloned?
Too scary!
It is funny that no one can criticize the president or his administration on this article without changing the subject.
Somewhat ironic that a liberal is saying that "we are not impressed by words".
Unfortunately, this is how Obama was elected President.
Obama is an embarassment to our country.
I wonder if he intends to bow to anybody in S. America!
Even Hillary appears to have enough sense to get the hell out of Obama's administration.
"I wonder if he intends to bow to anybody in S. America!"
I don' tknow, Chuck. It that the accepted 'greeting' practice in their cultures? Like shaking hands is for people that visit here? Or bowing is, for people that visit coutries where that is the common practice??
I just don't how the answer to you well-thought out question today.
Chuckies attack,,,If Obama is such a embarrassment to this country and yes he is, why are not millions standing at the White House kicking his dictator ship out of office..You know why,, because American people are cowards in their me myself and I Disney land...
so many of you listen to fox noise too, too much.
wow, hils learnin. coup[le years ago she would have accepted his word as gospel and walked away and forgot about it
I must say that I am stunned to hear such words out of the SOS's mouth, Bravo! However, from the looks of it, a little late. Waiting for the U.N. to make up it's mind and allowing so many to die and so much destruction; is this such a GOOD thing? It is almost certain that there will be a long civil war, at best, in Libya. Look at the votes too: Russia-Abstain, China-Abstain, Germany-Abstain, India-Abstain, Brazil-Abstain... What a reliable bunch we have to work with. The U.N. offers little hope for anyone in a crisis. However, they do resemble our President in timeliness and action. Maybe the U.S. should have abstained too, because a long civil war will actually have more people on both sides of the Libya equation killed, hurt, and tortured; not to mention those that will suffer because of all the infrastructure that will be destroyed. If anyone says that this was a great execution of solving a problem... I would compare it to getting a bad cut on your finger and waiting for a concensus of your neighbors so that when they finally agree it is serious, you go to the hospital and they have to amputate your arm.
Far South,
As far as what a reliable group we have to work with, according to Andrea Mitchell, fighter jets are coming from Britain, France, Canada, UAE, Qatar, Jordan, Kuwait, Belgium and Spain. Italy is opening military bases for use, and Malta is opening air space. U.S. is providing AWACs and coordination of attacks. No ground troops. Doesn't sound like such a motley group to me. The assembling of this operation especially with the support and participation of the Arab League sends a strong message that the U.S. isn't unilaterally invading a Muslim country. Something, unfortunately, he who can't be named, didn't do. This type of alliance and planning doesn't happen overnight, and requires a tremendous amount of workings behind the scene.
"US is not impressed by words"? Qadhafi will see us and raise us double! I'm sure he's not particularly impressed by some non-headscarfed Western infidel harpy lecturing him - especially for three weeks straight. I suspect he finds Mrs. Clinton's bloviating slightly humorous, at best. Same for our President's pontifications.
See, kids- here's what makes 'em so 'puppy-stranglin'' angry over there on the far right:
A foreign-born, 'commie', Muslim, 'Anointed', 'colored', deficit-spending, 'bracket-pickin', vacation-takin', community organizer, (their words, not mine) in just two years, has performed circles around their favoirte 8-year 'Yalie' from Texas, and it makes 'em so frustrated and mad they can't see straight.
But isn't it so much fun to watch and read day in and day out? You think this is fun, watch 'em after the 2012's!!!
Drive by, you're the prefect poster child of our pi$$ poor educational system in this country. Maybe a little less MTV and The Kardashians and a little more news would provide your with some facts about the politics, economy and history of our country. Thinking that Obama has performed circles (which btw who performs circles?...what does that even mean?) around Bush is an indication you need to put down the crack pipe between hits. What has Obama given us...closing Gitmo as he promised? Nope! Put an end to lobbying? Nope! Made America stronger and more "liked" by the rest of the world? Nope! Give us healthcare reform? Ya boy, only it bankrupts America and he was so ashamed of the bill he refused to even provide the lawmakers any time to actually read and debate it and it is on it's way to being annulled. Ya, that was good legislation. He has done nothing but vacation, stick his nose into things that were none of his business time after time and come out looking like a fool. His most recent accomplishment is to egg on the rebels in Libya until things turned bad and then he just walked away from them. Yippie, the UN finally voted on a no fly zone but there's not much point in closing the barn door after the horses all ran off so really nothing accomplished here either. He's soft on muslim terrorists to the point he won;t even referr to them as terrorists. Take yourself to detox and then come back and start posting, but for the love of god, please clean yourself of the toxins which are clearly affecting your ability to be rational.
Jim the only problem with your post is the facts that its missing. But facts just get in the way with republibaggers.
Boggles the mind, doesn't it. Obama can be THAT BAD, compared to Bush, and yet somehow, all these misguided citizens still approve of him 2 to 1 over Bush, according to the approval ratings Bush garnered vs. Obama's. Go figger. I must watch too much TV all together, it seems.
Not "impressed by words," Funny! That's all Obama's got!
Hillary, you are a F-N puppet and ugly hag,,Your words mean nothing unless it's to start another war for your war mongering agenda. We have never been impressed by Obama and his lying words. You both need to be held accountable for the war crimes you are getting this country into. Oh but your stocks are rising on the fact that now you can go sale military arms to the terrorists-so called rebels in Libya. Then like always we will have to go in and get more Americans killed with the weapons you sold for your greedy gains..I hope this all turns on America and they come to our shores with your war mongering,, Bi tch,, you too Obama Bro0
Chuck,
Please read some history, when military arms have been sold to terrorists, and then have come back to bite us, they weren't sold by Democrats. To thinks that Ms Clinton reaps "greedy gains" for weapons supply is ludicrous. The only people that would gain would be your military/industrial complex.
Now as Hillary said, and said most about in her deception on America,, Obama can now focus on his vacation in Ireland..Oh boy millions more for his parties, greedy bastard.
Don't worry righties only 6 more years
Can't wait for February 2012 when the unemployment extensions end and we can see how many of the 99 weekers have rolled of the unemployment rolls.
interesting, on the 15th obama and company weren't interested in military force but now they are.
http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/03/15/6273767-clinton-no-us-support-for-libya-no-fly-zone-
By my take on hillary's comments, the US would be opposed to UN "no fly" sanctions as well.
Is it obamas intentions to show that the US hasn't any type of credible foreign policy?
I fully support Quadaffi, the West is the biggest terrorist in this case. Quadaffi attacks the rebels, not the civilians! NATO killed 9 children in Afghanistan recently but where is the false UN then?
It is the next oil war, this time against Libya! Russia and China who could vetoed that stupid decision of the US-led UN for a no-fly zone over Libya, must be ashamed of their actions! Why do Russia and China remained silent in that case?
Toma,
Gaddafi attacked peaceful protesters who didn't take up weapons until they were killed and tortured.
How is shelling entire towns NOT attacking civilians??
american-2051576: Are you in favor of the US imposition of a no fly zone, or is the UN mandated no fly zone sufficient?
It appears that you just want to bash the duly elected POTUS, and the Secretary of State.
I think UN is not an international body but a US body, as UN serves US interests only! Therefore UN resolutions are illegitimate, not Quadaffi actions that protect the revolution from 1969. Is there a single case in which UN votes against US INTERESTS? NO!
usa are the real aggressors in our world, they win from people's sufferings. they ignite wars all over the world. they hold millions of people die of hunger and diseases. when do usa be held accountable for their actions?
if someone must resign from office, that mr obama, not quadaffi! obama leads usa to the next oil war. i am against war, i love peace!
