Huckabee claims Obama grew up in Kenya

*** UPDATED WITH HUCKPAC RESPONSE AFTER THE JUMP ***

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro and Sarah Blackwill
Mike Huckabee
, the former Arkansas governor considering another run for president in 2012, inaccurately claimed on a conservative talk-radio show that President Obama grew up in Kenya.

"[O]ne thing that I do know is his having grown up in Kenya, his view of the Brits, for example, very different than the average American," Huckabee told host Steve Malzberg, the Washington Post reported. (Huckabee is on a multi-state book tour that is taking him to key presidential nominating states.)

Huckabee's claim that President Obama grew up in Kenya is false. President Obama was born in Hawaii and spent part of his youth in Indonesia, not Kenya. The president's biological father was Kenyan, and Obama barely knew him.

Huckabee has said he believes President Obama was born in the United States -- unlike the so-called "Birthers," who believe falsely that the president was born elsewhere. Huckabee reiterated his standard reasoning for that again today.

"The only reason I'm not as confident that there's something about the birth certificate ... is because I know the Clintons well, and believe me they had lots of investigators out on him," Huckabee said, "and I'm convinced if there was anything they could have found on that they would have found it, and I promise they would have used it."

But Huckabee didn't shoot down other conspiracy theories like the president not having health or college records, floated by Malzberg. Here's a partial transcript:

MALZBERG: Don't you think it's fair also to ask him - I know your stance on this - how come we don't have a health record? We don't have a college record? We don't have a birth certif- why Mr. Obama did you spend millions of dollars in courts all over this country to defend against having to present a birth certificate. It's one thing to say, "You've seen it, goodbye. But why go to court and send lawyers to defend against having to show it?" Don't you think we deserve to know more about this man?

HUCKABEE: I would love to know more - what I know is troubling enough. And one thing that I do know is his having grown up in Kenya - his view of the Brits, for example, very different from the average American. When he gave the bust back to [of Winston Churchill] -- of Winston Churchill, yeah. A great insult to the British, but if you think about it - his perspective growing up in Kenya with a Kenyan father and granfather, their view of the Mau Mau Revolution is very different from ours, because he probably grew up hearing that the British were a bunch of imperialists who persecuted his grandfather.

MALZBERG: He despises the West, he despises the Brits, and I think he could take it all out on Israel, and that's why he despises Israel. He's not too thrilled with our history either... Would you say to him or at least ask him in a debate: Why did you go to court and spend millions of dollars on lawyers to prevent from having to show your birth certificate? If you have one, and it's there, why not show it?

HUCKABEE: The only reason I'm not as confident that there's something about the birth certificate, Steve, is because I know the Clintons well, and believe me they had lots of investigators out on him, and I'm convinced if there was anything they could have found on that they would have found it and I promised they would have used it.

*** UPDATE *** HuckPAC Executive Director J. Hogan Gidley says Huckabee "simply misspoke":

“Governor Huckabee simply misspoke when he alluded to President Obama growing up in ‘Kenya.’  The Governor meant to say the President grew up in Indonesia. When the Governor mentioned he wanted to know more about the President, he wasn’t talking about the President’s place of birth - the Governor believes the President was born in Hawaii. The Governor would however like to know more about where President Obama’s liberal policies come from and what else the President plans to do to this country - as do most Americans.”

I see Huckabee has apparently read the execrable fantasy written by Dinesh D'Souza whereby he professes to see into Obama's psyche and decides that his entire focus is to carry out his father's desires and opposition to the British and whatever else D'Souza could toss into the mix. Beneath Huckabee's affable Huckleberry Hound Dog visage lies a mean-spirited guy who professes Christianity but casually promotes the idea that our government should do nothing to help those in need. Let them die. It's not our problem.

Pastor Mike Hukabee is a smart and thoughtful ex-governor of a notorious southern state. He understood, and still understands, the implication of his pronouncements that President Obama "grew" up in Kenya. To underscore his adept knowledge of the President,s heritage he mentions "MAU MAU" tribe in Kenya that vigorously fought British colonialism. There is no MAU MAU in Hawaii or Indonesia!. Hukabee knows exactly the nefarious game he is playing with his ignorant and partially psychotic base. A group of ignoramuses who have knowingly accepted intellectual amnesia and total disregard of any common sense. In fact 30% of this emotionally charged base is ready to disenfranchised Hawaii as a State of the United States if it is true that Obama was born in that State. And what is the definition of insanity?

      Governor Huckabee,

What does the following scripture mean to you?

Thou shall not raise a false report: put thy hand with wicked to be ab unrighteous witness. Exodus 23:1

Pastor Huckabee, as a Christian, how can I ever trust you or believe anything you say again?

Don't be surprised about Huckabee. Like that butt f**ked meth smoking Ted Haggard, Huckabee too is a man of God. Preacher turned politician (talking 'bout a step down). Huckabee is speaking the word from on high. Do you know what it means to speak from on high? Check out Charlie Sheen.

Sheen has been speaking from on high for some weeks now. I don't know if it is crack or pot induced. Maybe it is caused by a new illegal drug in its testing stage. I just believe the crack-pot is high. People say stupid things when they speak from on high. Why should right-winger Huckabee be judged any differently?

Birds of a feather flock together. Have you noticed the clearing house, or should I call it the FOX flop-house where the nasty bad talking ex-politico-know-it-all-has-beens find center stage?

We all know by now Obama was born in Kenya. We all know he grew up there. We all know the only birth certificate in existence is the one issued by the Kenyan government. We all know that the Obama Presidential Library will be built in Kenya. We all know that the Democrats put us in the red. We all know that George W. was a genius. We all know that the bass playing Jesus representative The Reverend Mike Huckabee would never distort the facts for personal gain. We know he ain't no Arkansas Hillbilly Redneck; a stone’s throw from Hank Hill's Arlen Texas. We know that if he were president everything would be perfect. What we don't know is truth. We know that tomorrow is coming. Tomorrow will always come. If the entire universe should go away, tomorrow will be here. Will we?

"HuckPAC Executive Director J. Hogan Gidley says Huckabee 'simply misspoke'"

So he simply mis-spoke? Unfortunately, the Mau Mau revolution didn't occur in Indonesia. That is the first time I've heard such a protracted misstatement it rises to the level of a multi-paragraph oratory.

For a man who claims to be a man of God, you sure find lying to be convenient, Rev. Huckabee. Why would you not just repent, and dmit you're trying to smear the man by playing on the fears of the ignorant? If you did instead of trying to lie your way out of trouble, maybe people will feel sorry enough for your immoral soul to forgive you.

The average American is stupid, ignorant, uneducated and cannot think intelligently enough to know the TRUTH from the lies...that's why the GOP distort the facts, knowing very well these SUCKERS wil fall for thier lies and total fabrications whole-heartedly.

Which also explains why they aren't trying to fix the education problems. Their kids go to expensive private schools...they want the rest of the country as under-educated and ignorant as possible so they can continue to manipulate them with outright lies (knowing that their base would rather believe the lies than check them out for themselves...and if they are shown the truth, they are too close-minded to see it).

Nowadays party affiliation is an instant IQ test.

My sister sends her children to private school. It's really the only way to get a good education these days. Public education went down the tubes as soon as the schools were desegregated. Such a shame. But I think Mike Huckabee would really bring some good ideas to try and improve the public schools.

That is my opinion. Am I entitled to voice my opinion like you voice your opinion even if my opinion is not the same as yours? Or have we reached the point in this country where you can only have an opinion and voice it if it is in keeping with the majority? Have we reached the point where if "ones" opinion is not that of the majority that the person with the less popular opinion is called names and derided for having an opinion opposite that of the majority?

JJ seems to not understand the difference between correlation and causation. He appears ignorant of the inferrence made between education quality in the public schools prior and post segregation. Never contemplates the deliberate sabotage of the public education system because they were forced to let "the blacks" attend the same schools as the white kids. Just spouts an opinion.

I've been told to "make sense" although I'm not sure what part of anything I've written did not make sense. What I wrote might not be the most popular opinion in the country, but it certainly made sense. I have been told that I am "vomiting ... stupidity." And the people making these derogatory comments to me consider themselves the "enlightened." The "superior."

                #706.16 - Fri Mar 4, 2011 3:32 PM EST

You come in and suggest desegregation is responsible for the problems with education, then act surprised when people consider you offensive.

Maybe you should start your own thread all about how you seem to always say the exact thing that will attract a lot of negative comments.

Or how you obsess on them.

Or how you can turn any topic into a treatise on your hurt feelings.

Do you support Huckabee? Do you think he deliberately lied about Obama being raised in Kenya, or do you think he's just ignorant and believed some whacked out crap he heard on fox instead of looking for the truth himself?

Why would you suggest that the information on Fox is "whacked out crap." What if I were to suggest that the information you get from your source was "whacked out crap." How would you like that. And let's clear something up. I do not "always say the exact thing that will attract a lot of negative comments." I voice my opinion just like you voice yours and Paul voices his and DrDrGimmetheNews voices his or hers. The point you keep missing is that just because you do not agree with my opinion does not make my opinion any less valid than yours. Stop for a minute and think about this. Not everybody in this world is going to agree with you and if they don't, that's OK. Or at least it should be. You need to stop and think before you keep on with the name calling and innuendo just because we see things differently.

Opinions aren't valid. Facts are valid. Insights are valid. Information is valid.

As the saying goes....opinions are like @!$%#s...everybody's got one.

And if you don't think fox is whacked out crap then you can't tell the difference between facts and opinions. Opinions are crap...they are worthless. They mean nothing. A news show should give you facts, not their own twisted version of reality. Fox is nothing but opinions.

The sane republicans haven't come out of hiding because the birthers and TP'ers and fox-manufactured-rage-groupies and christofundiefascists who now make up the majority of the party will not vote for them. They will only vote for one of their own. A thought that should keep all sane people up at night.

I'm a democrat primarily because the republicans say one thing and do another...the party is supposed to be about smaller government, states rights, lower taxes, less government intrusion...but when they are in power they do the exact opposite. Clinton was a far better republican than bush if you just went by the party platform. He reduced welfare and unemployment, reduced government, balanced the budget, had a plan to pay off the deficit in 10 years and left with a surplus.

Huckabee has admitted to believing in Creationsism. Creationism holds that the earth is approximately 6700 years old and that insects, birds, reptiles, mammals and human beings arrived on the earth "abruptly and fully formed". This belief flies in the face of the facts.

Huckabee's belief in Creationism is no different than believing that the Earth is flat. Anyone who actually believes the nonsense of Creationism is too disconnected from reality to become the President.

Huckabee may have been feeling disingeneous towards Obama or what ever when he made this comment. But it's common kniwledge he doesn't believe this as he has been consistently saying that the president grew up in Hawaii-he even said as much in his book.

But for me, while am sure Obama grew up in Hawaii, am equally sure he was BORN in Kenya:

                      -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women and Children in Honolulu posted on its website a letter on White House stationery dated January 24th (since scrubbed), in which Obama wrote, "As a beneficiary of the excellence of Kapi'olani Medical Center -- the place of my birth -- I am pleased to add my voice to your chorus of supporters" -- even though Obama himself has previously claimed to have been born at Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu, a claim backed up by his sister Maya.

Until June 7th, even United Press International (UPI) and Snopes.com contained statements that Obama was born at the Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu. Here is a screen capture from Snopes.com that says, "Barack Hussein Obama was born at the Queen's Medical Center." Today, Snopes.com claims that "Barack Hussein Obama, was born on 4 August 1961 at the Kapiolani Medical Center." Snopes claims they made the change because Wikipedia made the change.

Here is the UPI screen capture that claims Obama was born at Queens -- but now the UPI claims Kapiolani. Remember, Obama, himself, told UPI that he was born at Queens. http://www.theobamafile.com/_images/UPIThenSaid.bmp

So, because someone at the White House sent a letter to Kapiolani, all the websites that have been covering for Obama are now scrambling to scrub content that they have claimed as accurate for the last couple of years.

In the summer of 2009, Press Secretary Gibbs was asked at press conference to confirm the letter, and after avoiding the question said he "didn't know" the name of Obama's birth hospital

Um...who cares what they say in Kenya? (assuming any of that is remotely true).

The officials in Hawaii (you remember Hawaii...part of America?) have confirmed 100 times over that he was born here.

There are a lot of lies on the internet...most of them ridiculously easy to debunk. The easiest one to debunk...is that Obama was born in Kenya.

If nothing else, anyone with a single working brain cell would know that if there was any truth to that at all, people a whole lot smarter, richer and more powerful than you or I would have been able to prove it long before he was elected president.

It's just a lie they told to stupid people so that they wouldn't vote for him...but now it's taken on a life of it's own (who knew there were that many stupid people?) and its current purpose is to help define who is rational and who is so blinded by hate and partisanship that they no longer recognize the truth when they see it.

Seems Huckster didn't believe your story.

Hard for me to figure this one out. When I first heard that Mike Huckabee went on The Steve Malzberg Show to say that President Obama grew up in Kenya and that he would "love to know more" about Obama’s birth certificate, I thought it must have been a bad rumor.

After all, in the first sentence of his book, Huckabee seems to take on the "birthers." And when I asked him about the controversy last week on "GMA," he said Republicans were wrong to “delve into such extraneous matters.” Not just morally wrong, but bad politics too.

“The idea that he’s not a citizen –you know why that’s bad politics,” he told me. “Because if there was a shred of truth to it, Hillary Clinton and her wonderful investigative opposition research team would have found it and would have used it.”

Another great attempt failed. Though I agree there are whacko Birthers all over.

So, the Kenyan Ambassador was lieing while he delivered his Parliamentary speech when he stated that Obama is native to Kenya? Why did Obama spend that much money (close to a million$?) fighting the law suits brought against him which called for him to produce a VALID BC? Why not just produce it immidiately and end all the talk? Why if born in Hawaii he has a SS# issued in Connecticut? Why neither of the two (yes 2, how can one person be born in two places?) hospitals named as the institutions of his birth not tripping over themselves to honour the first black president, and native of Hawaii with a plaque or some such, I mean that would be some kind of credential for iether of them, don't you think? Nor even to claim that he was born at one or the other? The HAwaii officials who claimed he born there....come on, why do you think they would HAVE to comply? I give you one guess. On the other side, a former city official says he is WILLING TO TESTIFY IN COURT THAT OBAMA WASN'T BORN IN HAWAII. http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=165981

When Obama went to Pakistan in 1981 he was traveling either with a British passport or an Indonesian passport.

If he were traveling with a British passport that would provide proof that he was born in Kenya on August 4, 1961, not in Hawaii as he claims. And if he were traveling with an Indonesian passport that would tend to prove that he relinquished whatever previous citizenship he held, British or American, prior to being adopted by his Indonesian step-father in 1967.

Oh good grief. he's produced his birth certificate and Hawaii has confirmed he was born there. Done deal.

Some random guy claims he supports Obama's opponent...and also claims he knows Obama wasn't born in Hawaii. You find that totally credible, but believe that the state officials "HAVE" to comply? I'll need a lot more than one guess to figure that one out because I have no clue what you're suggesting. People lie on the internet all the time. Remember all the phoney Kenyan birth certificates? Have you checked out this guy Adams? Does he even exist? And even if he does....there is no way anyone could know he wasn't born in Hawaii, unless they were present at his birth somewhere else.

The bottom line is that if he wasn't born in Hawaii he wouldn't have a Hawaiian birth certificate, his birth wouldn't have been announced in two separate Hawaiian papers, Hawaii wouldn't have said he was born there, and people with a lot more at stake than you, would have been able to prove it long ago.

It's been checked and confirmed and anyone who still refuses to believe it based on nothing more than the manufactured B.S. from rabid nutjobs you can find anywhere online....is delusional.

Just like Huckabee saying that he was raised in Kenya...when everyone knows he wasn't. It's calculated to make people like you believe it without question and run with it now that the whole "birther" thing has been so soundly discredited that even Huckabee (who obviously isn't above spreading misinformation to manipulate the base) won't beat that dead horse.

How does one misspeak while giving a diatribe on the "misspoken" word? In other words, if we are to assume he said Kenya when he meant Indonesia, why were there references to events in Kenya? The Mau Mau Rebellion happened in Kenya, not Indonesia!

Sorry, that reasoning is a fail.

Agreed. That was no slip of the tongue. He was either too ridiculously ill-informed to have his facts straight, (in which case he should have avoided the subject entirely) or it was a shameless and deliberate attempt to manufacture suspicion against the President using blatant lies.

Given the snotty tone of his follow up "I misspoke" statement...I would suspect the latter.

Sarah Palin misspoke when she said North Korea rather than South Korea. President Obama misspoke when he said that he had visited 57 states. Mike Huckabee did NOT misspeak when he stated that President Obama grew up in Kenya. He talked at length about how his upbringing in Kenya affects his worldview. I thought that this guy was a "man of the cloth." Does he not remember that you are not to bear false witness?

                                  Stick to the facts:

Obama's father and stepfather were devout Muslims. His stepfather, was a radical Wahabbi Muslim. Obama's mother, his material grandmother and grandfather were all atheists. Obama's mother moved to Indonesia—before she married her second Muslim husband—and enrolled her son in Catholic school, but as a Muslim because he was a Muslim.

Obama's half-sister Maya admitted that her "...whole family was Muslim, and most of the people I knew were Muslim." This would explain the change in name from Barry Soetoro to Barak Hussein Obama.

Obama's school/health records from grammar through college have been sealed by Obama's lawyers. These records would include birthplace, immunizations, grades (all sealed). WHY? Who paid for Obama's high school education in Hawaii at the most expensive private school "Punahou School?" Who paid for Harvard? Too bad, Americans did not have this information before voting for the talking head. Good night.

Virtually everything you've written is incorrect, or so radically skewed as to have no shred of truth left in it. Of all the things that you could share with your fellow man...why choose hate? Please check your facts (and not on any birther or TP sites...where it appears you might have quoted this from...because they, like you, just spread hate, not information.

All of your "information" was being shoveled long before the election. It's just that anyone who took five minutes to do a little fact checking found out it was all garbage. I guess they decided not to vote for the party that needed to make up hateful lies to try and win.

The fact that all these records have been sealed is just that...fact. Now, do I think there's some huge conspiracy they're trying to cover up? Nope. But if Bush had done the same thing, all of your heads would be exploding and you would be demanding the same information. You have to admit, covering up your past so vehemently is a tad shady.

The fact that there has yet to be allowed a subpoena empowered security clearanced investigation into the mass murder of Americans on American soil on 9/11 is much more important.

                                      Gharms,

So you can tell me what grammar school bush went to and what grades he got? Or when he got his tonsils out? I don't know any of that crap...nor do I have any reason to know it. It's meaningless drivel. The things I thought were important were his DUI's, his coke partying and his failed businesses.

There is no requirement that a president release lifetime personal health or school records. It's none of your business or mine. He has filled all the requirements he needs to for the position, the rest is just people like you looking for something to wail about...and no matter what his records say...there is no doubt that there will be cries of "forgery", "muslim" and "Kenya" before the page has even finished loading.

You already know what schools he went to, you know he graduated. We have a letter from his physician declaring him healthy. Nothing else is pertinent or any of your concern...and the ONLY reason you want it is to look for something to scream about. If there was nothing shocking there, you people would just make something up...like you did with the birth certificate. We don't need more of that crap...we need someone who will just do the job and not cater to every crazy person out there.

So no...I don't think it's shady. He may very well have information there that he doesn't want public...so what? I sure as hell wouldn't want my health and school records made public and scrutinized minutely by millions of people looking for something...anything...to complain about. Would you?

No, I DON'T know any of those things, nor do I want to. The fact of the matter is, though, if I WANTED to know that, the Bush people don't have a team of lawyers playing goal line defense to keep me from seeing it. It's shady, and if it were a Republican blocking records of his or her past, you'd all have a field day. If Sarah Palin suddenly sealed all of her grade school records (I'm only gonna give her credit for attending that much school), you'd all flip out and DEMAND that she release those records. Is there anything sinister to it? No. But if you have nothing to hide, why are you so intent on hiding your past? And people don't want a "lifetime of records". They want the records of his higher education and proof of his birth as an American citizen, required to be president. Now, we ALL know he's American....well, most of us do.......I mean after all, the Republicans and the Clintons would have pounced on that....so why the cloak and dagger to keep it all a secret? Bottom line is, everyone walks on eggshells around him so they don't get called a bigot or racist. If a white candidate had been found to be attending a church where the pastor preached ethnic cleansing and hatred towards other races, that would have been the end of his candidacy. If a white candidate had sealed up all of his records, people wouldn't have trusted him and moved on. Why is he so special? Because he can give good speeches?

No, I DON'T know any of those things, nor do I want to. The fact of the matter is, though, if I WANTED to know that, the Bush people don't have a team of lawyers playing goal line defense to keep me from seeing it. It's shady, and if it were a Republican blocking records of his or her past, you'd all have a field day.

You are certainly free to think that in the absence of any evidence or proof. What bush did as an adult was pertinent, what he did as a child, or his medical history...were not. Which may be why neither you nor I know anything about those things...perhaps no one asked for them since they weren't important.

If Sarah Palin suddenly sealed all of her grade school records (I'm only gonna give her credit for attending that much school), you'd all flip out and DEMAND that she release those records.

Why? I'm not sure why you are assuming this...but my guess is no one gives a crap what her grade school records say. They have nothing to do with the requirements for public office and can't tell us anything about what kind of leader someone would be. They are meaningless noise.

Is there anything sinister to it? No. But if you have nothing to hide, why are you so intent on hiding your past?

Since there is no reason for anyone else to have them...why should he sacrifice his privacy just to cater to crazy people who only want to discredit him? You'd think a birth certificate was a fairly innocuous document, but we've had three years of non-stop raving insanity about it. Imagine the fun you'd have with a vaccination record!

And people don't want a "lifetime of records". They want the records of his higher education and proof of his birth as an American citizen, required to be president.

He's provided the exact same proof of his birth as every other American President. Why do you think he should have to have extra-special proof? Why is Obama so special?

Now, we ALL know he's American....well, most of us do.......I mean after all, the Republicans and the Clintons would have pounced on that....so why the cloak and dagger to keep it all a secret?

It's not secret. It's been provided.

Bottom line is, everyone walks on eggshells around him so they don't get called a bigot or racist.

Calling him a marxist, a socialist, a nazi, a terrorist, a muslim, a communist, etc...is walking on eggshells? And that's all before he was even inaugerated. It only took a few weeks for signs depicting him as a witchdoctor showed up and yes...even a few with the infamous "N" word were seen at TP rallies. The TP itself...the uber-angry "taxed enough already" was "formed" mere WEEKS after he took office...and he hadn't raised any taxes. What were they really so angry about?

If a white candidate had been found to be attending a church where the pastor preached ethnic cleansing and hatred towards other races, that would have been the end of his candidacy.

Oh...the way Palin's political career ended when her pastor was bragging about persecuting "witches"? Get real. We don't judge leaders solely on the company they keep...or did you forget Clinton's second term?

If a white candidate had sealed up all of his records, people wouldn't have trusted him and moved on. Why is he so special? Because he can give good speeches?

You mean the way you stopped trusting bush after he signed a new order saying that all presidential records will not just be sealed for 12 years, but won't be released until both the former and incumbant president review them...and could be sealed indefinitely?

I think that's FAR more worrisome than someone's old school records, but I've heard over two years of bytching about them and not ONE PEEP about the presidential records. So you and your people have ZERO credibility .

(note that he passed this law just before Regan's records were about to be released...a number of his advisors were from the Regan administration...something that actually involves the running of this country stinks to high heaven there...and not a single birther or TP'er seems to think that's more important than what grade Obama got in math).

<eyeroll> okay whatever. Let's just say that it's not uncommon for Democrats to get up in arms about things they expect everyone to let their side off the hook for. It's pretty routine actually. Both sides do it. I can just admit it......some can't apparently....

Could you give ONE reason why you need to see Obama's school records?

Can you give ONE reason why the country needs to?

Could you please provide ONE instance where democrats demanded private candidate information released where it did not have any bearing on what sort of leadership we could expect from the candidate?

You mean like GWB's service records (or lack thereof).......or perhaps the digging into every facet of Nixon's life to find a reason to get rid of him. Did you know he was impeached for lying under oath and having a SINGLE FBI file in his possession? Did you know that when Clinton finally left office, he had lied under oath repeatedly, and had hundreds of FBI files in his personal possession? Like I said. Both sides pull crap, it's only when it's pulled against the Democrats that you hear such outrage and hatred. It's largely overlooked when the offenders are of the liberal persuasion.

You're missing my point. I'm not saying that the Democrats have ever asked for such information. I'm saying that if they did, and the Republican used a team of lawyers to block said inquiry, it's all that would be on the news cycles until they finally allowed access. This happens all the time.

                                          • Obama runs on a platform that includes the shutting down of Guantanamo Bay and the starting of normal criminal trials for the detainees. He also demonizes the Republicans for holding them with no proof, or even using GB for that. Yet here he is, 2 years later, starting up Tribunals again, and not releasing anyone despite lack of evidence, a fact that the major news media outlets have largely ignored.
                                          • The Nixon example I gave you. Once again, the fact that the same thing, but to a higher degree, that a president was impeached for before is ignored by the media entirely.
                                          • A few years ago, a few democrat senators were up in arms about a proposal to use only 51 votes for a judicial nominee. These same people were part of the 51 votes used behind closed doors to pass Obamacare.
                                          • You scream about "We were lied to!" when anyone mentions Iraq......really? "He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983." Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998. This is of course denied as a thought process by both the democrats and the media. FYI, there are TONS more of these quotes from prominent Democrats both before, during, and after the invasion.
                                          • Wisconsin proposes a vote to cut bargaining practices and other union crap that is bleeding the state dry. The democrats run to another state, effectively trying to fillibuster through absence I guess? Anyways, the Republican majority who is coming together for this vote passes it, and the democrats scream that they killed democracy. Didn't matter if they had been there to vote or not, they still would have passed it. Republican filibuster, and democrats call them unamerican and obstructionist.

This is just SOME of the hypocrisy shown by the democrats over the past 15 years or so. There's a list for Republicans too. Just realize that the grass is no greener on your side. It's covered in just as much dog s%^t as ours is.

Those records actually pertain to how we could expect him do the job of Commander in Chief. Someone with so little respect for the military that he can't even be bothered to show up for "rich daddy" light duty while his contemporaries were being drafted and dying by the thousands, probably shouldn't be in charge of the armed forces. A caution that sadly, proved all too true.

or perhaps the digging into every facet of Nixon's life to find a reason to get rid of him.

Do you know anything at all about Watergate? It was crime that led back the president...no one wanted his school records.

Outrage and hatred? Take a few minutes to scan some birther and TP sites...and then explain to me how Obama saying "no, you cannot have my school records" is "outrage and hatred"?

It's largely overlooked when the offenders are of the liberal persuasion.

It's largely missing when the offenders of the liberal persuasion. Not that some liberals aren't idiots...of course they are...but the whole manufactured "moral outrage" thing and the desire to know (and control) everything about someones PERSONAL life... are qualities of the right.

IF they did. Well...you miss MY point. Democrats might ask for information that actually has some bearing on the job performance (like bush's DUI's and military history). In which case they should howl if it's sealed. But school records are no one's business and you have no right to ask for them, so you can't compare them to anything that's actually...meaningful. If it "happens all the time" please show me ONE instance when democrats have spent over two years and mulitple court cases demanding irrelevant personal information?

You do realize that's there is far more to democracy than "whoever has the most party members wins", right? The people of the state, and in fact, the nation, objected strenuously to what they were doing, and they went ahead and did it anyway. That's democracy?

......those senators and that Governor ran on the platform of cutting back the union influence in the state that was bleeding them dry and won. How is that not democracy? The people spoke with their votes. When the unions figured out they were the vocal minority, they bussed in union members from all over the country.....you know.....the same thing they were OUTRAGED about when the Republicans were supposedly doing that during health care debates......The people in WI got exactly what they voted for, knowing full well what the intentions of those they elected were. I mean, look up some of the campaign commercials for some of these Republicans.....they actually mention busting the unions. It's not like this came from left field. People knew what it was they were voting for. There was no secrecy to this agenda. But once again, when the democrats don't get their way, they piss and moan and call names and make grandiose exaggerations, just like they've done for the past 20 years. They keep using buzz words like "death of democracy" over and over and over until it sticks. Say it enough, and it becomes truth to half the moron voters out there. I think we both understand that neither sides' hands are clean in all of this. It honestly just seems to me, admittedly a Republican, that Democrats are the whiny girl of politics. They huff and puff and stomp around until they get their way.

"..... the real David Koch, who lives in New York, says he has never met or spoken to Gov. Walker.

The latest conspiracy theory being peddled is that the key to Gov. Walker's budget is a provision authorizing the state to sell power plants it owns, with Koch Industries supposedly scheming to buy them up cheap. Krugman wrote on Thursday that "there are enough suspicious minds out there that Koch Industries, owned by the billionaire brothers who are playing such a large role in Mr. Walker's anti-union push, felt compelled to issue a denial."

Never mind that the proposal has been around for years, that there is zero -- absolutely no -- evidence to support such a claim or that Koch Industries has said it has no interest in Wisconsin's power plants. For some, apparently, conspiracy theories trump reality.

What's really going on here is an attempt to silence people whose views liberals disagree with. After all, they don't have a problem with billionaires using their money to influence policies and public opinion when the money is being spent by the likes of George Soros, a left-winger who, among other things, helps fund the Think Progress site. "

......stop with the Koch brothers crap.....it's just not true. Yet another instance of repeat the lie until it's truth.

The point isn't who would buy the plants, the problem is that the state isn't taking COMPETITIVE bids for the asset. Now if you believe in free markets and capitalism, you can't legitimately then favor no bid sales contracts for public property.

Nah see the point in what I quoted was that there isn't any proof that Koch is going to bid, has bid, or if they do bid, will get preferential treatment. People keep just spouting conspiracy theories to make themselves feel better about losing, essentially saying "We couldn't possibly have lost. We're too smart for that and our ideas are the best ever always. There must be something sinister to this!".

Simpleton, Gharms. It doesn't matter who, Koch or anyone else, buys the assets so long as they pay a fair market value price. This can only correctly be established through a bidding process. Your attitude is the same as every con-man's, "there's no reason to be suspicious, just trust us, we know what we're doing.

You would think with how bad people seem to hate these men that they could dig up dirt on them if they wanted to, since they are seen as such a threat to democracy. But you can't. Just saying something is true doesn't make it so. I could say the sky is orange all day everyday. Doesn't make it true. There's no proof of Koch being involved. There's no proof of a no bid system for the resources. The only thing there IS proof of, is that they were thinking of selling the power plants to help with the shortfall of the budget. People like you, who apparently will believe anything with an anti-republican sentiment to it, immediately just pass it off as something sinister....because if a Republican gets anything done, it's for an ulterior motive to you.

PS- Next time you want to make a point, try not calling names. It makes you sound biased and overzealous to your own cause, causing people to take less weight from your position.

Please allow me to agree, Gharms. Koch Brothers have zero interest in Union Busting, nor utilities, nor the huge profits from the exorbitant price of oil due to speculation, as there is ZERO proof of this.

                                                        Peace

Well, I dunno about all that ><......but the explicit theory of them funding this particular union busting endeavor to win favor for getting no bids on resources is a tad far fetched without any proof. Some people will believe anything though.

                                                          I will give you that!
