Georgia Congressman Paul Broun (R) has confirmed that he received this question at a town hall on Tuesday: "Who's going to shoot Obama?"
According to the Athens Banner-Herald, which first reported the news, Broun responded to the question this way: "The thing is, I know there’s a lot of frustration with this president. We’re going to have an election next year. Hopefully, we’ll elect somebody that’s going to be a conservative, limited-government president that will take a smaller, who will sign a bill to repeal and replace Obamacare."
Broun's spokeswoman told the Georgia newspaper: “Obviously, the question was inappropriate, so Congressman Broun moved on.”
Now, after the outburst gained national attention, Broun has issued a statement condemning any suggestion or threat of violence aimed at the president or any other elected official.
Tuesday night at a town hall meeting in Oglethorpe County, Georgia an elderly man asked the abhorrent question, “Who’s going to shoot Obama?” I was stunned by the question and chose not to dignify it with a response; therefore, at that moment I moved on to the next person with a question. After the event, my office took action with the appropriate authorities. I deeply regret that this incident happened at all. Furthermore, I condemn all statements—made in sincerity or jest—that threaten or suggest the use of violence against the President of the United States or any other public official. Such rhetoric cannot and will not be tolerated.
*** UPDATE *** TPM is reporting that, per witnesses, Broun "laughed when an elderly man at his town hall meeting this week asked 'Who's gonna shoot Obama?'"

I have seen disrespect for the President before, but this is just disgusting. People who are refusing orders beacuse they feel Obama is not qualified to be President or they are saying he's not a citizen. He provided all the proof that was needed. This man was elected to office to do a job by more than just African Americans. There were people of all races who voted for him, becuse they felt he was most qualified.
If someone had made that statement out one of the former Presidents, "When is someone going to shoot", that person making that statement would have been arrested immediately, it would not be 3 days later and they are looking into the situation. Disrespect, is unacceptable. We tell our children to be respectful and this is how some of the adults act. I hope this was taped and they show the persons face on TV and if he has kids, nieces or nephews that ask why you want the President dead. I would love to see the look on his face. That would be priceless.

Mark I don't believe intelligent people condone this at all but there are extremists on all sides. Where is the outrage against hate speech against anyone. To not recognize it happens on both sides is naive and be against it in any form is hypocritical.

ALL presidents receive death threats thats a fact, but what isn't a fact is that a "BRAND NEW PARTY WAS FORMED" CALLED THE "TEA PARTY" not even 30 days into President Obama's Admin. On top of that by march of 09 they where ALREADY SCREAMING we want our country back not even 45 days into his admin ( really when no agenda or bill was passed..really? already.?...Name any other time in the last 60 years has this happened and their agenda was taking serious by the media, and they elected their so called Tea party candidates into office...we all know what it was about...like Eric holder said "we are a nation of cowards"...and i AGREE!!!!
The hatred and bigotry, fanned by the right wing leadership (Plain, Limbaugh, Beck, Colter), had its trigger set as soon as they realized McCain and the P-alienator had tanked. The right's delusionals knew it was inevitable that no black man would ever win. They knew their country. Errr. . . perhaps not.
What to do now? Organize the bigots into a new party (hmm, what name . . . brown shirts was already used 80 years ago) to do the dirty work . . . just don't let them associate too closely with main stream Republicans in case it backfires.
Rep. Paul Broun missed his chance to be a representative of the people by not asking the old gentleman to leave the gathering and immediately responding to the rest of the crowd that that kind of comment is illegal. The old gentleman should have been arrested on the spot.

Conservatives keep getting voted in because they exploit a vein of hatred, bigotry, and stupidity. The vast majority of people are thoughtful, swinging left or right depending on their fear level. They fear liberal spending when they don't fear right-wing fascism. They vote depending on who scares them more. Anyone else see where this current insanity is leading. That's the good news.
This was probably a joke by the old guy, although a crude one. I don't think anyone should be saying anything about murdering anyone. This of course should be easily understood by the left bc they have in the recent past called for the death of Palin, Bush, and Cheney. I have been reading it on newsvine and tweeter, so why not publish those on the front page and call them out. This was one guy, but I have seen hundreds from the left calling for the death of the above and several more unmentioned conservatives from Fox news. The only ones I have seen mention these death threats in the news was Fox and a few other conservative Internet services that haven't been destroyed by liberal propaganda. You can believe if this guy was believed to be serious, rather than making a sick joke, he would be behind bars right now, so even speaking about it is propaganda and the left putting the POTUS in jeopardy in order to attempt at harming those on the right, but it isn't working bc most on the right have more commonsense than that.

Many have proof of death threats made by the left against conservatives and republican politicians, sadly but also evangelists pastors passing on and the left stating good riddance. I am no liar but our president and many on the left prove they are. I don't even know Cheyney, I do know a Cheney whom was a respectable VP AND A VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE ONE, UNLIKE THE one holding office now. What is his name, oh, I know Biteme.
