Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., addressed the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington earlier this month.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, South Dakota Sen. John Thune (R) says he's not running for president in 2012:
For months now, my wife Kimberley and I have received encouragement from family, friends, colleagues, and supporters from across South Dakota and the country to run for the presidency of the United States. We have appreciated hearing their concerns about where the country is headed and their hopes for a new direction.
During this time, Kimberley and I and our two daughters have given a great deal of thought to how we might best serve South Dakota and our nation. That process has involved lots of prayer.
Along the way, we have been reminded of the importance of being in the arena, of being in the fight. And make no mistake that during this period of fiscal crisis and economic uncertainty there is a fight for the future direction of America. There is a battle to be waged over what kind of country we are going to leave our children and grandchildren and that battle is happening now in Washington, not two years from now. So at this time, I feel that I am best positioned to fight for America’s future here in the trenches of the United States Senate.
I want to thank those who have encouraged us and prayed for us during the past several months. We are forever grateful for all the support.

The remaining Republicans with a shred of intelligence are dropping like flies! lol
What a stellar cast of characters remain...
Maybe Sarah Palin can 'ghost write' some more letters to the editor praising all of her wonderful accomplishments!
of course he would rather stay in the senate. he saw what happened in the house when republicans got the majority. actually having to govern is a daunting task, one at which republicans are abjectly inept.
opposing on the other hand, is pretty easy. you just do nothing, shout some talking points straight from fox news, and make sure nothing improves for a long as you can, and presto, job security.
To bad the Senate is going Republican in 2012 and there's nothing you can do to stop it zaruski, which is why you resort to childish rantings.
All you libs know what's next. Obama's out in 2012, you're unicorn utopia is all but evaporating before you eyes and you're all throwing a hissy fit like 8 year old girls, while decrying you're the intellectually superior ones.
Planned Parenthood - defunded
NPR - defunded
Next, Obama care.
I'm laughing all the way to 2012.
No, I don't think that the Senate is going Republican in 2012. People are seeing what bad people this lot of Republicans are and they will be lucky to hold the house.
I think we should be talking about the Cowardly Democrats that are Running...........
Running from doing there jobs and Voting..... You know the Cowardly democrats in Wisconsin and Indianna.. If they only had Courage. if they would just vote and show the people of the state where they Stand on the Issue. I mean really if the people are on their side. they will vote in the next election to send more democrats to the State Houses....
Running. yes. thats what Democrats do best. Just like the French.. they never like a good fight.
Anyone want to buy a french Rifle. its never been fired and only Dropped once?
@#1.2
im not sure what was childish about it. more like observational. i have a memory that extends past the last two years. i saw what it is like when republicans are in charge. and im seeing what an unmitigated cluster the new house is. passing symbolic legislation and putting on to house floor bills to address scandals contrived by fox news.
you, of course, must think that it is all a wonderful success.
speaking of success, does it make your head explode when the statistics tell that the last congress has been one of the most successful in history, despite the circus republicans like to opposition?
I'm gonna bet you didn't think the House would loose so many seats either job1. I mean why would they with the outstanding leadership of Obama and the Democrats. Why would people vote them out, if they're doing such a great job. Right?
Largest loss in seats and shift in power in over 70 years!!
But that had nothing to do with Obama or the Democrats. Right?
Wow, you should start playing the lottery. You're predictions are spot on.
zaruski...
In all honesty... you cannot lay the blame squarely at the feet of the republicans of the last administration. they may have had the White House but the dems controlled Congress.
There is PLENTY of blame to be equally shared by BOTH sides.
For your reference...
The composition of the 110th Congress (2007 - ) is as follows:
Senate: 49 D, 49 R House: 233 D, 198 R
December 15, 2010
Congress' Job Approval Rating Worst in Gallup History
Kind of hard "not" to be a success at passing things when you have the majority and pass bills and laws the country didn't want.
I guess you missed this though.
Is there any property for sale in that fairy land you live in? Must be a dizzy place with all the SPIN that goes on there.
This is for Landoran:you have a right to your opinion AND we have a right to ours. The Republican /tea party green peas are making a mess of Congress, the people won't forget. They were sent there to help create jobs. I haven't heard anything from them regarding jobs.
Vote OUT all of the Republicans in 2012 !!!
Hey Fayse,
So in 2 years Obama spent $860 billion dollars, with the power of all 3 branches of government on his side to pass anything he wanted and unemployment has remained at or above 9.4% for almost 2 years now.
Republicans have power in 1 of the 3 branches of government, for not even 2 months and you're asking where the jobs are?
I just love watching liberals lose their minds.
They don't know what to do anymore, now that Obama doesn't have total control and American is turning back to its founding conservative ways. All they can do is fabricate turmoil within the Republican party that doesn't exist and offer up Sarah Palin's name every other article, as red meat for these retards to chew on.
They can't debate, defend, explain or understand why America has turned on them and their Messiah. You liberals keep asking, where are the Republican ideas?, yet all you retards do is rename and re-brand the same idiotic liberal ideas and ideology that have been used over and over again for the last 100 years and every single time THEY FAIL!! And you call that "progress"? Ha!
Calls of class warfare, racism, homophobia, you hate poor people, women, children, old people, puppies, blah, blah, blah
It's all falling on deaf ears now. We're sick of hearing it, we're sick of seeing it, we're sick of rolling our eyes at how moronic you liberals act, while we chuckle at your stupidity, bottom line....we're just plain sick of you all. Call me a racist, call me a Nazi, call me a homophobe, I really don't care anymore.
It's over you whiny, cry baby, gimme, gimme, gimme, I deserve, I'm owed, I'm entitled.
Core liberal mentality: "You don't deserve, what I don't have".
I send out a plea to all of you who are unemployed.
Starting this summer, please start looking for work again, even if it isn't out there and keep looking all the way through 2012. It will drive unemployment into the high double digits and really wipe out Obama's re-election campaign.
One and done.
Daryl-tell me where you're getting that stuff you're smoking!
Daryl,
I don't suppose you have ANY proof to back ANY of that up?
What am I talking about. Liberals don't need proof to call someone names or make claims against others.
It's up to those people liberals accuse to provide the proof that they're not what liberals claim them to be.
You're a racist. No, I'm not. Prove it.
You liberals are so f'ing simple minded.
Landoran - The Three Branches are the Judicial, Executive, and Legisltative - not House, Senate, and President. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-New York) said the same thing a few weeks ago on on a Sunday morning show.
Landoran,
Since you are dominating this thread with your opinion, I feel obligated to say...
the more you type, the more obvious your ignorance becomes.
Americans should support Americans. Maybe I should put it to you another way that you might understand..."Don't piss down my back and tell me its raining"
Stev
"coward democrats running from WI and Indiana"
c'mon Steve - we on the left are willing to give credit where credit is due.
had it not been for Tom Delay and the Texas repubs in 2003 running and hiding we would have never come up with the idea...
take credit - you on the right have earned it!
So Thune consulted with the Lord as part of his decision-making process, and God told him not to run. I guess religion is good for something, after all.
zaruski: What statistics claim that the Pelousy-Reed Congress was the most successful in American history? It was the most successful in creating the highest national debt in history and in dismantling the very foundation of our nation, which is exactly what our enemies want. Who the hell wrote those statistics? Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez? Very credible indeed.
http://www.salon.com/news/politics/war_room/2010/11/03/nancy_pelosi_assessment/index.html
"The story of the first half of Obama's first term, let's not forget, is one of partial legislative triumph. On issue after issue, Pelosi's House produced for the president. The stimulus was larger before the Senate watered it down. Cap-and-trade made it through the House, before dying in the Senate. A stronger healthcare reform package -- one with a public insurance option -- was pushed through the House, only to be stripped down by the Senate. Ditto for Wall Street reform. And let's not forget the lower-profile legislation, on fair pay, student loan reform, cash-for-clunkers, and credit card reform, that made it through both chambers. The 111th Congress will be remembered for the way it ended, with a seismic Democratic defeat, but that doesn't change the fact that it was one of the most productive -- ever."
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/ezra-klein/2010/11/assessing_our_first_female_spe.html
"By any measure, Pelosi has been one of the most effective House speakers in American history, especially given her relatively short tenure. At Salon, Steve Kornacki offers a helpful recollection of her many accomplishments, from health care to student loan reform to the credit card bill of rights to cap and trade. Pelosi consistently delivered legislation that became law, as well as legislation that the Senate then stalled on and failed to pass. As Kornacki writes, Pelosi is unpopular less because of what the House has done or failed to do — most Americans have little idea of those particulars — but because the economy is bad and voters wanted someone to blame."
One can have an opinion about the nature of the legislation itself, but there is no question Speaker Pelosi's House was incredibly productive. Remember that we're only talking about what the House produced, before the Senate watered most of it down or voting it out.
Thune is out, Sarah's out, (the new book, exposing her insane rants, and outright illegal actions while gov.), Newt hasn't got a snowball's chance......, They are calling for Bush 3, or Cristie the Dictator, who at least has the smarts to say he's not smart enough, Mitt, a proven loser, ah...................Barbour? really? The field is shrinking fast.................Pawlenty, nah, don't think so.................hmm..............what no name is left? You all keep thinging about 2012.................in your dreams. Bush 3 lol lol lol.............
Lionel,
Your post made absolutely no sense to me what so ever.
Really, my ignorance, please be more specific. Or are you the typical liberal who just says "I'm the ignorant one" and then adds ZERO intellectual discourse of your own, because in your mind, you're already smarter by "default".
Don't worry. I wouldn't cross the street to piss on you, even if you were on fire.
Clotho,
salon.com and the washingtonpost.com??
That's your sources. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha
Those articles might as well been written by Nancy Pelsoi and Harry Reid themselves.
Oh, my eyes are watering. You liberals are so stupid.
yes waterdog almost as credible as making up sources to decry. You on the right whine about the left not having facts, look at the tripe you throw out. So who's statistics say the right wingers are any good? Bin laden? Gaddafi?
DBAkron,
Yes the 3 traditional branches of government when talking about checks and balances are the legislative, executive and judicial.
But today, with the split in power between the House, the Senate and the Presidency, you can also say there are 3 branches of government within these two entities. Because if Congress is meant to be one of the checks in balances of power, but is controlled by the same party as the President, like we just saw over the last 2 years, you might as well say there were only 2 branches of government. Obama's Congress and the Judicial branch.
The Judicial branch is there to rule on Constitutional Law and make sure that neither Congress nor the President overstep their authority or abuse their power by passing unconstitutional laws. Which is why Obamacare will be heard by them.
Chuck Schumer is a douche bag.
The repubs know they don't have anybody with half the "intelligence" that Barack has. They are running scared...plus they all know he will make them look more stupid...then they already are...
What's wrongs repubs? Scared, why are you all running away...talking about hiding...LOL
Obama's #1 fan....go team Obama
Toyota,
Why haven't we ever seen Obama's grades? If he's so intelligent, don't you think he'd be proud to show off his 4.0?
I've seen Bush's. I've seen John Kerry's. And what do you know George Bush had better grades and graduated with a higher GPA than Kerry and they both went to Yale.
Without his teleprompter Obama sounds just like the man he grew into, was and is. A community organizing street hustler, thug, who needs ignorant masses to chant his message. Strong arming and coercing people into giving you what you want isn't "intelligence".
He's a street agitator with a law degree and if it wasn't for affirmative action he wouldn't have gotten into Columbia or Harvard.
He's done in 2012.
Landoran, Oh! your great Fox news talking points, Obama-hating drivel, yada yada yada. And ad hominem attacks on those who differ with your extreme right wing talking points. Blah! No original thoughts.
Lynda,
You forgot to answer or refute ANY of my questions or points, but I'm used to liberals deflecting.
I'd have more respect for you if you'd just admit you're too stupid to debate or argue your idiotic ideology or beliefs.
alright, who are the 20 (as of this post) FOOLS who voted for feisty red head's incoherent drivel?? REALLY?
frh, quit your hypocrite hack whining, ie; i don't see you jumping all over obama for having bill ayers ghost write his books. an un-intelligent hack like you couldn't pass Palin's test given in her sleep. and obviously you don't have a fraction of her common sense or you wouldn't be a progressive.
landoran is wiping you libs all over the floor like a cheap mop. keep up the good work!
The MAN is a formidable opponent. Pass it on.....
Good afternoon Drive-by:
He might as well drop out. He didn't have a chance anyway...and he knew that. He's looking at 2016 so he wouldn't have to run against President Obama.
Will there be a Republican Party in 2016??
Bo:
Excellent question! The TP, John Boehner, and Eric Cantor are doing all they can to destroy it.
Hey Ron...
Maybe it needs to be destroyed and built anew.
Many would say that BOTH parties (Rep and Dem) would benefit from that!
Maybe the state senators that flee are having a negative impact. What is the value of a representative that refuses to represent?
How long can they stay away, and how is that democracy?
Sure is entertaining. Guess 8,000 folks in Wisconsin get cut next week. That must be what the democratic senators wanted, or do you think they failed to think it through?
"Bo-1925019
Will there be a Republican Party in 2016??"
They and the Tea Party will be extinct, by then, after the shellacking that they will get in 2012 and 2016.
The American voters may be slow but they are not stupid. The same ones that voted for Republicans, because they thought the country was going in the wrong direction, will be voting for Democrats in 2012 and 2016.
It is so much easier to destroy this country, for political purposes, than to build it. The American voters are waking up to see the truth about what the Republicans are trying to do to this country and they don't like what they see.
Spanky, did you notice Thune didn't show up either?
I'm sure the "repubs" are already trying to figure out "how can we "steal" the 2012 election"... just like they did in 2000 and 2004. Don't put it past them to pull some type of trick out the hat in November 2012......they are good at it. (tricks that is)
I would rather have strong beliefs in our Senators that stay in office and not run. We need our congressmen to WORK together.
Geez, and so the fact that no one in the world had ever heard of him didn't have anything to do with it? Or the fact that South Dakota is one of the poorest states in the country with most of the top ten most impoverished counties in the country? Of the fact that it has an incredibly poor educational system? Or that it has the highest proportion of people born the state who leave and never come back (though tied with North Dakota for this distinction.)
And a special thank you to those who prayed for this guy NOT to run. You know we progressives are pullin' for a Palin run!!!!
In 2016, the "white old-men" party will be dissolved into the "Teapublican" party where the radical conservatives of God and Guns will control their agenda.
What a loss to America- yet another Republican from empty state with an empty mind.
FrankM-1089393,
Why would you say that about Sen. Thune and South Dakota? Do you know Sen. Thune? Have you been to South Dakota or even know anybody from the state?
Your remarks indicate who has the empty mind.
I came from there and FrankM is right, coyotetom. A little too right. SD is a net exporter of intelligence--that is, smart, industrious, creative South Dakotans leave the state. Thune isn't as much of a snake oil salesman as some, but he's working on it.
I'm all of those things and I still live there. Given your negativity, I'm glad you left.
South Dakota has one of the highest percentages of millionaires in the U.S. We enjoy one of the lowest crime rates. Our air is clear and roads unfettered. I would put my high school and college educations against any in the country. Unlike many of you who exhibit your intelligence by allowing your electeds to mire you in government debt, we enjoy a balanced budget. We take care of our friends and family. When we have a disaster such as last weekends blizzard we pick up a shovel instead of putting out our hand for government entitlement. John Thune is one of us. Our country could use a dose of John and South Dakota!
As usual all the liberal howlers come out of the woods of that Hollywood fantasy land established by George Soros and the likes of supporter Mike Moore under the moveon.org kookie factory. (yes kookie not cookie)
John Thune in my opinion will run for President in 2012. He just doesn't need the distraction of liberal fiction to interfere with the job of fixing what the liberal Democrats have broken.
I wouldn't sweat the liberals claim that the GOP and the Tea party will magically disappear at the wave of Soros magic wand of liberal dreams.
2012 will bring in a new tide of fiscal conservatives to finish cleaning up the stable of "liberal" horse manure and corruption. American voters will help provide the shovel of bringing this country back to a real economy and clear the smoke and smash the mirrors Democrats have used since Bill Clinton used projections of surplus money from Reagans policies that might have panned out, absent Clinton.
Democrats show their true colors by ducking out of their duties in several States. This isn't about collective bargaining folks, it is the threat to their payoffs and sly backroom bribes that they are pissed about.
Grow up folks. The time has come to tighten the budget, cut expenses and become fiscally responsible. The only thing that I think should be done before they cut State workers pay is to cut their own salaries before they cut others salaries. That goes for National and State politicians.
I know feisty, we are all sooooo stupid. Time for another collapse actually!
Thank you for exposing the Tea Bagger tricks! Don't agree with someone - SILENCE them! lmao!
Feisty Redhead - I noticed all the right wing chooses not to hear you but I am with you born and bred in Chicago and admire your spunk - go girl - these jerks cannot stop collapsing things they do want to hear - the truth
Thanks Barbara! ;o)
I like to think of 'them' as the 'collapse cowards'! lol
Senator Thune is a fine man and will play an increasingly important role, especially after the Republicans take over the Senate in 2012, which is a lock.
Bob:
You really don't think it's a "lock" do you? Wishful thinking is not the same as meaningful predictions.
So Ron, what do you think of today's front page story in the NY Times? When the NY Times starts throwing unions under the bus, you all have to see you have problems, right?
Bob is right, but you be sure to keep score, ok now?
"a lock" absolutely NOT. Two years is a long time in politics and The Tea Party congress are showing their true colors. They want to destroy the Middle Class and do the bidding of the filthy rich Corporations.
I think that is what is going on - they are looking to insure a strong majority Senate - just in case Obama wins again. Also - they may realize that the chances of winning from the third tier in a crowded field is not in the best interest of them or the party.
Who?
And, in equally non news, I promise that if nominated I will not serve and if elected, I will not run.
why leave the senate and lobbist all that easy money selling America to the highest bidder besides he doesn't have a pray at being the president
My prediction - all the GOPers who have any sense and moderation will not run. They will leave the field open to all the wingnuts and crazies, so that they can self-destruct against Obama. Then, when the party has bled itself dry of all the crazies and teahadists trying to destroy America, the moderates will arise to claim that only they (after horrible losses in 2012) can bring the party back to power.
Might work - might not either if the crazies destroy this country first!
The right is certainly trying to ruin the country or at least ruin people they don't like--while yelling that it's the other side doing it. Former President Clinton didn't ruin the country but former President George W Bush came close and President Obama is still digging us out of that giant Bush 43 crater of despair.
Jody, $5 Billion a day.
You get what that means, right?
Be a dear and calculate the debt service on $1.65 Trillion, then let's chat about who and what's being dug out. Or do you think there will be a magical fairy that will pay all that money back?
Spanky, so then tell me, why did Cheney say that deficits don't matter when Bush was borrowing Billions each month from China to finance his two wars?
President Obama will be the second best Republican President we have ever had since President Clinton. He has, this year, signed every Republican bill passed by the Senate. He will have to continue to do so in able to win re-election in 2012. Go Obama Go. Change we can believe in.
DelFairchild - in the bills he signed you obviously missed what he got - check it out before you mispeak
Good decision on his part. Didn't have a chance so now won't waste all that money.
No surprise. Thune is probably a nice guy but the good candidates know the Tea Party hurdles they face, right now, there is no common sense coming from the far right.
As for the GOP taking back the Senate in 2012, don't count those chickens yet. The GOPTP must first prove to the voters that they were serious about the economy and job creation; to date, they've spent their time focusing on women's reproductive rights and making a lot of noise about spending cuts--the cuts they intend will cut jobs as well which will not sit well with voters. Every public sector job lost is a vote lost. In addition, I see what is happening in Wisconsin, Ohio, New Jersey, Florida, and a host of other GOP Governorship states as mobilizing not just the democratic party but also the middle class workers whose jobs and futures are being threatened by the GOPTP. The Tea Party has unmasked the real republican agenda that for years has been hidden behind tax cuts and small government rhetoric.
Yep no one knows about or cares about the $14 trillion debt.
Jody, when do you forsee that getting paid back? How much will be spent in interest?
What the Municiple Workers Union members don't realize is this country is broke. People are out of jobs and do not want to keep up the life styles of the Government Union members.
Most people in the private sector haven't had a raise in 3 years, but taxes keep going in to give the Government Union members virtually free health care and free retirement packages.
Then to top it off, the Democrats run away and won't man up to the fact they lost the election and are in a minority. Majority rules. Or at least it used to. The Democrats are changing the rules each year.
Tell me Spanky, when did all of this $14 trillion debt start? Did it start Jan. 2009? I think not. Better go back a few years.
Lavish lifestyles of the Government Union members?? What are you smoking because I want some. The trade off for working public sector is lower pay (yes, my entire family has been public sector, from military to state and cit gov't) for educated jobs compared to the same in the private sector in order to receive better benefits.
Lavish lifestyle my a**. The only lavish lifestyles financed by the government are the ones had by CEO's and board members of corporations with Republican friends...
Jody, I cannot speak for other states but in Florida all statewide races in 2010 were won by Republicans. The only statewide Democrat left remaining is our Senator Bill Nelson. He will be running again in 2012 with Obama. This is one Democrat who will vote both of these losers out. We need new blood in Washington. The Washington Democrats are ruining this country. By the way Florida will have a few more Congress seats and Electoral votes in 2012. Can't wait to vote!
Jodie - sorry what job creations? - PBS must go- Planned Parenthood must go and yes abortions which the Hyde amendment already took care of- children's lunches- a no no - let's hit Social Security you must be at least a hundred never mind you contributed your entire lifetime- let's not forget the United Nations Bolton said destoy it - via "the Heritage Foundation" who has been paying him put his daughter through college - oh yes the Cheney's still collecting from the "Heritage Foundation" where all Republican losers go to collect paychecks, like "the Knute" keep these guys alive to fight another day
And the Cato Institute where the Koch's are on the Boards- wake up it is a plan to destroy the workers of America - this was played out in a 1945 movie Spencer Tracy - Kathryn Hepburn movie in "The Citadel" Amazing forecasted in 1945
Yawn... The GOP can't even run their own bickering party let alone the country...
At least they don't run to the next state to avoid having to vote. Biggest bunch of cowards I have ever heard of.
Coyotetom, I think you meant "strategists," not "cowards." If not, I'd like to hear how you describe the game of football.
Ghostndragon--Above I thought you were counting yourself among all of the smart people who had left South Dakota...you aren't disproving the "left" part, but you aren't helping your cause on the "intelligence" part....those representatives have a statutory obligation to be there...they left....they left because they don't want to face defeat....they are.....cowards.
Coyotetom: No, they just run from Barack Hussain Obama. LOL
They (repubs) are all jumping ship......I wonder why?????? They all know better then to come up against Barack's brain. Maybe Sarah Failin will take him on and give us all a good show. How funny that will be.
Mindcrime: Defeat was November 2008...(huge)
Toyota3--I'm talking about Wisconsin--now--present day---as in Democrat state senators fleeing the jurisdiction and abdicating their responsibilities to the voters who elected them....the 2008 presidential election is over...the big defeat was 2010--November 2010--70 seat swing in the people's house....welcome to the present, not the past
Mindcrime: How can we ever forget the past...the past of GWB, thank goodness he is in our past.
Our past (GWB) is what's catching up with us today...stupid...
No what is happening is the repubs are all fleeing from Obama...LOL
Mindcrime - how old are you? Did you not care when the Republicans redefined the lines in Texas? Okay for the Republicans but Democrats - you must be very young if you do not know our history - the Democrats are only doing what the Republicans did - sorry do you not have books, strike that you have google learn little boy this is not new.
LOL at liberals who think Obomma has even a remote chance of winning in 2012. Right now Mel Gibson could beat Obomma. The guy is a loser and everybody is realising that, even liberals, though they'd never admit it.
That's the laugh of the day, Bootlips, if wishing would only make it so. Who you got to run against the President? Someone we dont know about?.
No one on the potential list of candidates is not going to cut it.
gingerbread Mamma, I agree with you 100 %. the GOP/Tea Party have no one. The only thing that they can do is criticize and osbtruct. This hurts Americans but do they care? NO, they care about power and rich people like the kochs, Rupert Murdock and the huge Corporations.
I find it disgusting the that the GOP/TP and its followers are more willing to commit psychological warfare against their fellow Americans than actually govern. Posts like those from Bootlips (an apt name) are blatant propaganda just like the fliers we dropped on the Germans and the radio messages they sent back to us during WWII. If demoralizing is the only way to win, that's what they'll do.
"Bootlips
LOL at liberals who think Obomma has even a remote chance of winning in 2012. Right now Mel Gibson could beat Obomma. The guy is a loser and everybody is realising that, even liberals, though they'd never admit it."
Hmmm..
Who does the GOP/TP have to offer?
Huckabee, just another Fox News freak
Sarah (I hate my job) Palin
Romney, the Mormon with the Albatross of Mass state health insurance around his neck
Ron Paul, the flat tax non-starter
Chris (I'm not ready) Christie
Michelle Bachmann, queen of the Tea Party (stole Sarah's crown)
Surely, they will come up with someone by 2012, that's not completely nuts.
The repubs are going to pull a rabbit out the hat like they did with "failin palin"
Now that was funny (when mccane announced his running mate: we all said, "who"??? and started laughing...
Bootlips- your Momma would I believe ashamed of your name - "Bootlips?" you cannot even spell your Presidents name, shame on you is this the best you can do? Tell us why? Give us a reason to believe you? What do you have Romney, same health plan as President Obama - Pawlenty I believe many people were killed when he refused to fix the bridges, Haley Barbour - sorry the North will not accept the Klan, forget Palinshe has only been it for the money, Bachman crazy as a loon, Ron Paul, tried it before - no contest - Thune dropped out - oh yes the Knute - screwed his associate and blamed Clinton for doing likewise - you have a slate of losers.
As a fellow South Dakotan, may I say Sen. Thune not running for president is a good thing for this country. He hasn't done much for this state other than echo conservative talking points. He won election to the Senate because he claimed he had "the ear of the president," which at that time was George Bush. You should have seen the look on Thune's face when GB stood in front of Mt. Rushmore and proclaimed there would be no federal drought relief for farmers. The look was priceless. He's better off in the Senate where he can do the least amount of damage.
Sher, he has always struck me as a classic example of an empty suit. There is no there there!
So he is not a good senator because he doesn't bring home pork for his home state?
Bookem: What do you think they are elected to do. Send money to another state? Or create wars, they are doing what the people who voted them in want.
It doesn't matter who runs against obama...
obama is toast in 2012...
We know who he is this time around and he will lose big...
Plus, the last election placed the electoral vote in the advantage of the republicans, along with with key states like Ohio with a GOP governor...Yeah, the rope is getting really tight for obama....Really tight...
Wouldn't surprise me if obama doesn't have a liberal running against him for the Democrat Nomination...
Hey look, a lynching reference. How classy of you...not!
WOW Bio... Nobody saw THAT response coming! LOL! (so typical)
Just because YOU say it dosen't make it so. Please join us in a toast when the President is re elected in 2012 and all of the Tea Party newbies are out.
If the unemployment rate stays high he will not have a chance. Anyone will look good.
WhereHas AmericaGone - not to you this whole fight in Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio shows you where America has gone we will not let you take us down - and the next election my dear you are dead meat the Republicans as - the Japanese General Yamamota said in WW11- "you have raised the sleeping Tiger" we will not allow you to take us down and frankly the middle class will wake up as they are now and vote in not you Repubs but a centrist Obama
Feisty works for Newsvine... it's the only explanation as to how she has the time to post on the comments of every MSNBC article 1,000 times a day and can insult people without being permanently banned.
No, I'm quite sure she's just another lazy free loading liberal welfare recipient, who spends her days at the library, using their computers, paid for by actual tax payers.
Fiesty and Bev. live in Shady Acres retirement home. This is their contact with the "real" world.
Boy you three are really something. Constantly trashing people about how they talk about Republican and look at you. Like three little boys in a school yard.
Sean - I do not work for newsvine but am retired - stay up late at night - no 6:00 clock planes to catch and post- now give me an excuse
Who???????????????? What's a Thune? Same old Republican Thune????????????
No, but could you hum a few bars?
not who ??? who cares ???
Amazing that the man who told the people of SD that he would only run for 1 term in the House of Representatives is now a Senator w/his eyes on the Presidency. What a Liar!! Not the kind of man I'd want to be my President!!
Smart man. He knows he has ZERO chance of beating Obama!
I'm not surprised. I thought this was a way to get his name in the national media and get some more name recognition. I actually think getting the VP spot is a more realistic goal for him, especially if Palin gets the nomination. The GOP are going to want a VP who is perceived as more reliable, able to stay on message, and stable than Palin. They are also going to want someone without any potential negative background. Right now any one of the conservative, non Tea Party people (Daniels, Thune) could fit that profile. That person will also satisfy the non tea party base of the GOP.
Kelly - Palin could not get a nomination for dog catcher - did you not get it she was in it for the money pure and simple - her assistant is coming out with a tell all book - surprise surprise any one with a brain knew it all along - and wait until the e-mails are released from her time as a government and they find. out Todd was really running it Sarah has been on borrowed time garnering all the money she can grab - then off to the Bermuda's and parts unknown - I actually met people like her in Virginia milked the system and then moved on - you people are so gullible - dam I can tell a phony a mile off
You people do realize that both the far left and the far right are whack-jobs. Neither side does anything. Neither side can do anything. Why? Because neither side will will compromise. Did Obama try a few times to reach across the isle? Yes, but he only gave a few empty attempts at it. Did the other side jump him for it, you bet ya.
That's how it works, one side seizes power, implements their idealism that can only lead to ruin, then loses control to the other side who promptly does the same thing. The presidents that have done well, severed at least part of they're term(s) in the lull when the senate/house was reasonably balanced, letting the Centrist have a say in things.
That said, its only gonna get worse with our current direction, until we get a radical shift the other way, so they can fail, and we end up in the middle a decade from now.
Your argument makes no sense. If you are a "Centrist" you don't reside on the left or the right, thus your statement is null. Your remarks about the right being extreme is accurate. However, you chose to outline the idealism that I hinted at without saying. So by stating that the extreme right is a middle ground is just a biased attack at the party you don't support. You must realize that the extreme left also has similar agendas in nature, though of a different issue. Neither side has, in my opinion, very many candidates that I'd personally consider a Centrist.
Anything that can be said about one side, can just as easily be said about the other. Just because you're skewed to one side, doesn't make a comment from the other side inaccurate, and even more so if its a neutral comment.
Neither side has it is right, neither side has it wrong. They both have pros and cons. Just comes down to what's important to you.
You see Horn....
These left-wing-loons believe anything that is not LEFT is RIGHT... They beleive they are the CENTER so everyone else must be to the right.
(how slanted can you get there loons?)
Daryl - I love everything you say except to the fur coats, we raise beef to eat, we raise hogs to eat and I have a gorgeous mink coat which was raised in captivity I see no difference except the meat of minks are sold to dog breeders - can you discern the difference?
My guess is, we could see the Republican Party start acting more like a corportate board than a reflection of Democracy. Weed out the undesirables. Party officials could conduct interviews and select a candidate based on a Right Wing Litmus that is pretty much in place now. Primaries and conventions will just be dressed up to entertain the Base who won't know the difference anyway. With their draconian, 'dog eat dog' theories on how to run the country, I often find myself wondering why it isn't Republicans who should be more anti Second Amendment.
This is the best news that I have heard all day!
I think all of this rhetoric just reinforces how I feel about the partisan politics we are seeing. I have nothing against republican or democrat politics. I have views that fall in line with both parties. I am one of those all too rare people that actually think about each issue and don't follow party lines blindly. That being said, I find that the vast majority of pompous, arrogant, blind politicians and their followers are in fact the republicans. I have nothing against republican policy, I just don't (usually) like republicans. Now, let the bashing begin...
You once said you were a teacher...Which means two things...You work for the Unions and...
You are a liberal...Whether still in the closet or not, your a liberal...
Now stand beside your liberal believes, even though they are wrong and at least have some convictions...
... thanks for telling me exactly what I am and who I am. Also, I'd like to thank you for telling me what to do. I do find it amusing that you have made those decisions for me based solely on my profession. Not all teachers are liberals, and not all CEOs are conservative. Many people actually do think for themselves beyond pigeonholed roles.
Based on your comments directed toward me, I think that you may have helped reinforce my point.
Tk1966, you also forgot to mention that not all teachers belong to a Union. Which makes Wherehas an idiot.
WHAG, maybe you should meet up with tk. It appears that your schooling has failed you in at least 3 areas: 1. grammar, 2. spelling, and 3. deductive reasoning.
