Blog Buzz: CPAC

As CPAC gets under way, bloggers so far on both sides of the aisle give their take on the rift between some conservative politicians and groups who have boycotted the conference because of the presence of GOProud, a gay conservative organization.

John Cole at liberal blog Balloon Juice:

It’s kind of wild to think about it, but CPAC, which was made up of wingnuts so crazed they cheered Beck and Limbaugh as speakers the past two years, is no longer the nuttiest group of the GOP. There are even more extreme folks who don’t think CPAC is quite bigoted enough and has been too nice to the gays.

And Jim DeMint, tea party extraordinaire, is the leader of thew new wing.

And conservative blogger Erick Erickson at RedState said that he is breaking his silence on the divide because GOProud co-founder and board chairman Christopher Barron criticized the conservative think tank Heritage Foundation, which dropped out of the confab because of GOProud’s participation.

In an interview with Metro Weekly, Barron said of Heritage:

”They’ve chosen to – and it’s a mystery to me why – but they’ve chosen to align themselves with the losers.”

Erickson:

I have done my best to stay out of this business, keep my mouth shut, and appreciate my friends on both sides of the CPAC divide. Had I not seen this particular attack by GOProud against long time solid conservatives I’d continue keeping my mouth shut. But this is too much. And my guess is that there aren’t many if any willing to call foul, so I will do it.

As someone who spent time trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, I accept this as conclusive proof that, while it is a Republican organization, GOProud is not a conservative organization.

Those groups and people who have sat out CPAC this year have done so not because they hate the gays, as Grover Norquist and GOProud would have you believe, but because GOProud is not a conservative organization and its agenda is not a conservative agenda.

For that, they are called losers and nasty bigots.

These losers and nasty bigots have done a lot more for the conservative movement than GOProud. And I am very happy to call them my friends.

This week, I’d much rather be with them than be at CPAC.

Finally one of you libbies got it right. Way to go Clara KCMO.

Proper teabagging requires the person being teabagged to have their mouth wide open. It's just good form, right Bev.? Right Fiesty?

I mean after all no one uses teabagging as an active verb, as much as you two old gals. I have to assume that teabagging is al lthe rage in the retirement home you two are in.

Hey.

My only intent was to be first on the board. To beat the Nasty Redhead from posting one of her Oneliners.. Posting it then to come back and Edit that post.

And anyway. I just Finished a Cup of Tea. Think i will go and Get another. Decaf of course..

And please. Keep Believing that our party is Being Fractured. its the Daily line with the Libbies here on PMSNBC. the only people that NEED to believe that are the Libbies here on PMSNBC. we understand that we in the republican party dont agree on everything. we dont need to vote in lock step with each other.

The real bad part is that 122 Democrats Voted against a Bill that Obama wanted. thats Real Fracturing...

come the 2012 Elections when the Democrats lose even more Seats. In both the House and the Senate. and Possibly the White House, will you still be trying to Convince everyone that the Republican house is Shrinking> I mean Really,,

Just yesterday there was an Article here on FR about the Democrats Losing the "Senate. the HOST here at FR do believe its gonna happen. thats why they were Talking about it. They understand that the Hatefulness of the LIBERAL/progressives not only here at PMSNBC but in the rest of the country is what is driving the Electorate. They may not admit it here on the boards. but they see the Writing on the walll

It is quite an interesting tactic to cast and generalize whole groups as morons and hateful bigots.

I will give you a little quote that happens to be in the bible, but I am sure you will just jump to the conclusion that I am some hateful, racist, conservative.

"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?"

ITM. I agree with her first sentence but I find that bible quote to be ridiculous. The act of preaching it to someone contradicts it. It reminds me of a quote by Pee-Wee Herman, "I know you are but what and I", because both can be volleyed back and forth indefinitely.

And let's be clear, while the purpose here may indeed be discussion, the nature, tenor and focus of said discussion varies per the individual commentor. Which is exactly why I loves me some Fiesty - it reminds me that there really are some uniformed, silly folk out there.

      Charles (and Clara too...),

My comment had nothing to with people's RIGHTS to post the trash they they post. I support their RIGHT to do that.

My post was a commentary on the value (or lack there of) of those posts as it relates to discussions about the FR article.

Take a look at the posts i am questioning... Feisty, Bev, NDD... Their posts have NOTHING to do with the topic of discussion. Instead they continue to follow the same pattern they follow EVERY day here.. posts that are intended to insite anger from those that do not agree with them. Their tactics include hateful comments, name calling and in may instances horrible personal attacks on other FR contributors.

Discussion is NOT what they are here for!

Not sure that Fiesty, Bev. or NewDay are trying to incite anything, or that their behavior is intentional. More a case of just limited cognitive ability. It's really nothing more than mindlessly re-citing the same thing over and over and over again. And do consider the source - I'm pretty sure they are all elderly with limited work or educational experience. Certainly none have ever created a business, understand corporate taxation, or would ever be effected by tax increases over the $250K threshold.

Now if you really want to see what happens when those three in particular are confronted with something new go back to their comments the day of and the day after Giffords got shot. Pure comedy gold.

I agree with her first sentence but I find that bible quote to be ridiculous. The act of preaching it to someone contradicts it.

Now that every one has come in and given their take on my original post, I thought I might come back and clarify. I am not trying to preach to anyone here more than anyone else opinion is trying to change minds. How many times to you see nasty claims of hypocrisy here...just on this FR blog. The quote I put up there is the perfect explanation of hypocrisy. If you come here with comments filled with buzzwords, talking points, and calling others morons and hateful, I would consider that to be quite hypocritical.

I am also not trying to silence anyone, I can do that just fine by not reading this blog. Discussion is a great thing, but an original post like Feisty Redhead made accomplishes nothing and contains no discussion.

          Chilled,

If you care for our country, why did the old Congress spend 3 Trillion of our dollars in just two years? What good did it do for our country? Unemployment went up over 9%, the real number is around 17%. China pretty much owns us. Bush is not an answer, the spending is on Obama's watch.

Instead of calling people names, what success do you want? You want fast choo-choos? You want electric cars that need energy that Obama wants to put "Tax and Cap" on?

I call it-You don't know how to fix it. The only thing I see from Liberals is insults and no solutions.

The people spoke in November, you can't live on Hope and Change. Obama is a likable guy, but a horrible leader.

As of today, what's the chance of Obama getting elected? Not your wish, but the countrys' wish. There's a bigger world outside of the Liberal world.

Aww Clara the entertainment of all of this - and that what it is after all is entertainment, arising mostly out of the personal nature of the comments. For instance I think Fiesty just called me a hypocrite. Now I could ask her to provide the basis for that comment, but we all know she won't/can't.

As a professional, I really don't have a lot of interaction with folks like Fiesty, Bev, Newday. Most of the folk I hang out with have college degrees or higher and make enough money that any and all changes in tax law will dierectly effect them. They also, with little exception work very hard and long hours. And for some reason they think they should be entitled to keep as much of their earning as possible/pay as little in taxes as is legal.

Golly to me Fiesty is not even an actual person, but rather a proxy of the libbie left that loves unions, taxes, and couldn't run a business to save their life.

Yes, please Fiesty keep on keeping on. Do it for your "people." You are their defacto leader after all.

PS. Spanky, it's a big mistake to assume that those who make $250K or more a year are all Republicans. There are many who feel pretty strongly about paying 'it' forward. But for the grace of many social programs, I would not have accomplished what I have,...How do YOU reconcile the fact that MANY lawyers are ProDem sympathizers? It's safe to say that generalizations are inaccurate and unnecessary. Too bad you don't have a more diverse friendship base. Walking in other people's shoes is the best way to develop the compassion gene.

Why does 'conservative' have to be all-encompassing? Must everyone who believes in small government also be church-going Christians? I think it's amusing that the folks who scream the loudest about the so-called threat of Sharia law infiltrating the US are the ones whose ideology is more in step with theocracy than the liberal left.

I find it amusing that groups are trying to "out conservative" each other. When BOTH parties can and do work together, the country does seem to move forward. Right now, the country has serious problems, and people such as Michelle Bachmann do not seem to care, as long as they can win the next election. The Republicans, and some of the Tea party have won the last election, and so far, nothing has changed. The Republicans promised, during the campaign that creating jobs would be a priority, instead they decided to go after the health care act, with the expected result of losing. When, exactly will BOTH parties start to work together to move the country forward, get us out of debt, and create jobs? People like Michelle Bachmann et al have only one trick, they want people mto feel threatened, and then tell the people where the threat is coming from, whether that is a factual threat or not is immaterial.

Very True hq2, I find it absolutely astounding that so many of the 'Conservative' camp are not following what is REALLY going on with their 'elected representatives'. So far, instead of working to bring economic relief to the masses in the way of jobs and a better economy ALL that the "right" is doing is trying to tear down President Obama instead. The ONLY thing that they are focused on is to discredit the first Black American President in ANY way possible, whether that be with misinformation, misdirection or to try to block legislation that was put into effect that actually HELPS those that are not Too-Rich-To-Fail already. The Repubs are being hoisted upon their own petard with their saying one thing and then doing the opposite, and soon even the hard core group of heretofore ignorant believers in them will have to admit that they were fooled AGAIN by this unscrupulous group of crooks and their sycophants.

Health care is but one of the many examples of their perfidity: much of the law, some 90% is almost EXACTLY the same wording that they put forth in the '90s, and yet, now, once it has been enacted, by a Black President, they are totally against it, even though it funnels money into the pockets of their highly paid Insurance Backers.

There is a LOT going on behind the scenes, the Justice Department is finally close to rounding up the perpetrators of the Financial Crash and the people that have been ripping off the entire world through the use of the Stock Market by way of Illegally informed insider trading. What most of the public does not know is that a WHOLE LOT of our present Legislators, bureaucrats and those who were supposed to be "regulating" such markets are in it up to their necks, and they will all be going away...far from ANY rein of power or money. When the truth comes out, publicly so that no one can deny it any longer, there is going to be a widespread sense of "How could this have happened, I BELIEVED in those people!" Things to watch: The bankruptcy of The Fed and it's Fiat Currency, the many States that are looking for some form of currency that is NOT backed by The Fed, and the number of businesses and banks that are looking towards getting back onto the gold standard. It is going to happen and the truths that will come with it will surely amaze, dismay, disgust and surprise those who think that they want things to go "The Conservative Way".

Change is happening, and the Big Money Powers That Be are running scared, because they KNOW that their time is up, that the World is moving past them and they will no longer be able to control the World through the practices of Fear, War and Poverty like they have been doing for well over 100 years. The Bush Years threw the covers off and the World has seen who REALLY has been in bed together all this time...and it is Not Pretty.

              Just watch, you WILL See!!

Although it is not true that all conservatives are stupid people, it is true that most stupid people are conservative.

A party of order or stability, and a party of progress or reform, are both necessary elements of a healthy state of political life.

              also...

He who knows only his own side of the case knows little of that.
              John Stuart Mill...

              and...

In all intellectual debates, both sides tend to be correct in what they affirm, and wrong in what they deny.

              Here's a link to some of Mill's work;

The great defender of individual rights,

"John Stuart Mill’s view on liberty, which was influenced by Joseph Priestley and Josiah Warren, is that the individual ought be free to do as he wishes unless he harms others. Individuals are rational enough to make decisions about their good being and choose any religion they want to. Government should interfere when it is for the protection of society. Mill explains,

“The sole end for which mankind are warranted, individually or collectively, in interfering with the liberty of action of any of their number, is self-protection. That the only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others. His own good, either physical or moral, is not sufficient warrant. He cannot rightfully be compelled to do or forbear because it will be better for him to do so, because it will make him happier, because, in the opinion of others, to do so would be wise, or even right..."

His basic political philosophy would probably make him a libertarian today, a bane to conservative and liberal alike...

I guess it would depend on how you define "harm to others"

Clara, The Elephants are out. Haven't you seen them doing green energy commercials for GE? I doubt that Obama would like his buddy, the CEO of GE, using the GOP symbol to tout green energy. Someone at GE is probably worried about a pink slip about now.

Do you liberals ever come up with something original besides what you hear or see on MSNBC?

That popcorn metaphor is so lame and tired.

It may be tired and lame but popcorn is better than that — — — — you teabaggers are so fond of nursing on
