A U.S. Army spokesperson confirms that Staff Sgt. Sal Giunta is not going to re-enlist when his tour is up in mid-June.
Giunta, the first living recipient of the Medal of Honor since the Vietnam War, had hinted for several months that he was keeping his options open and considering going to school. But he decided last week to use his GI benefits and get his undergraduate degree.
Giunta and his wife, Jenny, will move to Fort Carson, CO, later this year. No word yet on which school he will attend, but he will be close to Colorado State University.

Who can blame him Stf Sargeant Giunta - they keep sending them back over and over again and sooner or later their 'ticket' is bound to get punched!
Thank you Sargeant Giunta for your sacrifice for this county. May you find much peace joy & happiness spending time with your familiy!
Yes,, Tell us why does this Administration keep sending them back over and over..
Other then that. A true American Hero. Thanks for your service..
Thank You, Sergeant Giunta, for your service.
The sad thing, is the Bush Administration started sending troops over and over. Hopefully the Obama Administration will get it stopped.
Thank God they got the term right and called him a recipient and not a Medal of Honor winner. You dont win medals, you are awarded them.

Most people do not make a career of the military. He served honorably and deserves his benefits.
He served our nation with valor and courage. He has more than earned his retirement from active duty.
SSG Giunta,
Well done, God Bless You and Yours!
Staff Sgt. Giunta,
Thank you for your heroic service. Well done !
You are everything our country should stand for. God Bless you and your family...go in Peace !
I had the distinct privilege of meeting SSG Giunta and his wife Jenny this past January when they attended various functions associated with the U. S. Army All-American Bowl. Everyone's focus during Bowl week was on the nation's best high school football players. Those players were the center of attention.....until SSG Giunta made his appearance(s). Rightly so, the focus shifted. Athletes, families of athletes, coaches, dignitaries, members of the press, all rushed in to meet him and his wife. Uniformly, he received expressions of appreciation for his service and sacrifice. He, and his wife, bore the weight of an appreciative public with humility and without once demonstrating a lack of composure. Their longsuffering attitude and patience were truly remarkable and exemplary in every respect.
This young man and his wife deserve whatever measure of peace and quiet is available to them, now. I trust they will discover both in the shadow of the Rockies and in the company of fellow students, faculty, staff, and a community who will allow them to return to a life with some relative degree of normalcy.
Whatever SSG Giunta decides to do with his life, I'm confident that he will always and well represent the best traditions of "service before self" that he embodied while he wore the uniform. He lives on as a member of a unique fraternity. God bless him in every way.
