Former Penn. Sen. Rick Santorum speaks at the Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit on Tuesday in Des Moines, Iowa. Santorum commented on President Obama's State of the Union address during an interview with a Des Moines radio station.
Likely presidential candidate and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum (R) dismissed President Obama’s State of the Union address as “a speech of platitudes with very little substance.”
"I thought it was a speech of platitudes with very little substance,” Santorum said on Newsradio 1040 WHO in Des Moines, IA. “You know, he talked about, we're going to be pro-business and the only concrete thing that I saw there about business was raising taxes on job creators, by increasing the top rate. He said they want to do something about spending, and he spent the first half of his speech talking about more spending."
Obama did, however, also talk about cutting the corporate tax rate.
When asked a question about the constitutionality of health care reform, Santorum took the opportunity to hit a possible Republican opponent.
"When Mitt Romney gets up and says ‘RomneyCare’ is OK and Constitutional, he's right -- under Massachusetts [law],” Santorum said. “Massachusetts can require you to buy health insurance, auto insurance, to buy whatever they believe is in the best interest for the people to do, and it's bankrupting Massachusetts.”
Santorum also addressed his comments to Christian News Service where, when referring to President Obama’s pro-choice stance on abortion, he said, "I find it almost remarkable for a black man to say, 'We're going to decide who are people and who are not people.'"
Today, he said he welcomes "this battle. I'm not someone who backs down from a fight when you know you're right. In this case, what I said was dead on, and I believe it. I'm glad that we're having this debate. It's a debate we need to have in America."

"Man on dog" Rick has something irrelevant to say and you give him the time of day. Curious.
This is the same guy who represented Pennsylvania while he and his family live in Leesburg, Virginia, right?
Right, he wanted PA to pay for his kids' education. Pennsylvania got rid of him and now he wants to foist himself on the rest of the nation. He also wanted a $250,000 limit on awards for medical practice, buthis wife sued her chiropractor and got over $300,000.
It's also, if I'm not mistaken, the guy who has a passel of kids and is relying on his mommy and daddy to help pay for 'em, as well as accepting public funds to pay for special needs care.....
He was a teabagger before teabagging was all the rage on the right. In more ways than one probably. It's a truism that all of these anti-gay crusaders are just gay people who've allowed their religious brainwashing to bury their real selves in medieval self-loathing. So they rant on and on against gays, hoping that one day their unacceptable desires will be somehow scared away.
B2O2...As a gay man....I REFUSE to accept Santorum as a member of the tribe....he'll have to fnd another minority to join!
And enter the other "crazy" from the Republican party. You know, in the old days folks used to keep the crazies in the attic, but the Republican Party likes to keep theirs right out front of EVERYBODY, pushing them forward as "leaders". If there is a sane person left in the right wing, would you please step forward? It is entertaining as all get out, I do admit, but the problems are too serious to leave them in the hands of the deluded.
Let's see...there must be 37 or 3, 700 GOPer's who think they can win in 2012. They all have something in common - self-delusion!!! They also fall all over themselves trying to outTP each other. All they will achieve in the end is moving themselves so far right that even sane and sensible people would never vote for them. Guess they have never heard (they only listen to FOX, so of course they have never heard) that only moderates and centrists win the big dance historically.
How shocking that Rick didn't like the SOTU (yawn). Until he declares his intent to run for president, he's a nobody, and even then I still don't care what he thinks about anything.
Santorum? Sanitarium is more like it.
Santorum/Palin 2012!!!! Let's turn it over to the nuts.
Santorum/Palin/Bachmann/Obama/Biden 5 somes are always better....
I had hoped, with all of my heart, that Rick Santorum would disappear. Another hope crushed.
LMAO ex this and ex that says it all
Hey, Santorum ... where ARE those weapons of mass destruction, anyway?
Notice how it is okay by Santorum that the states do health care but not the federal government? But what is the purpose of the federal government but to make sure the States treat the citizens of the USA properly? And if only 1 state is offering good health care, shouldn't the federal government step in to be sure that ALL the remaining states follow suit? And we seem to be going backwards on gun safety laws! Arizona keeps arming her citizens to the hilt and now other states are looking to do the same thing. I think we may have "militia" every where we look. I actually had someone ask if Arizona allows guns at youth soccer games!
California Girl: I think you do not knowthe difference between gun safety and arming law abiding citizens.
Also, you need to take care of Calif. gun problems, NOT Arizona's problems. In Calif. criminals have more guns then the good citizens because of your state gun laws. So get it fixed.
Good post dembarb, I enjoyed it. I even laughed.
Santorum lost his Senate seat to a nobody. That's not how you win the presidency. A.
B. He's right about Romney and the legality and validity of Commonwealth Care in MA. He's right to say Mitt's right in pointing that out without being hypocritical. Rick, though, is wrong that it's "bankrupting" the state. At not even 2% the state budget, CC is bankrupting nothing.
In my view, the federal government ought to act as the facilitator for state solutions or plans for healthcare. That is what they should do for education too, for that matter. In any event, it looks like Obe & Co. are more interested in centralized control of the nation, which means centralized manufacturing of healthcare and eduction and all the rest of it for years to come....unless the Republicans nominate Romney in 2012.
Santorum was too easy on Obama. If Obama really wants bipartisanship, he would state publicly that he will sign the repeal of ObamaCare when it passes the Senate. Actions speak louder than words. The Democrats betrayed America when they passed that bill over the clear wishes of the American people. Independents will not forgive Democrats until the bill is repealed with Democrat support.
Obama will not be able to run in 2012. Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma and Georgia (and probably other states too) will all pass a bill this year that requires future presidential candidates to present a birth certificate before they are allowed on the ballot. Arizona needs 31 votes in the House and 16 votes in the Senate for the bill to pass. The bill already has 25 co-sponsors in the House and 16 co-sponsors in the Senate. The bill will definitely pass. Then it goes to a Republican governor who is being sued by Obama. She is really pissed and will be quite delighted to sign a bill to keep Obama off the ballot in Arizona in 2012.
Obama is toast. The only question is if he will be able to finish out his term. I'd say it is 50/50 right now. If Obama's eligibility goes to the Supreme Court, Sotomayor and Kagan will be recused because their fate will be determined by the outcome of the case. If the court rules Obama is not Constitutionally eligible to be president, then Sotomayor and Kagan will be removed from office also.
2011 and 2012 will not be good years for Democrats.
You are scaring me. Biden would take over the presidency. He is really scary. All the bills he signed would be repealed. WOW all the earmarks Harry would have to slip in again to other bills, at least it would keep him quite. LOL
By the way, there is good legal precedent for a court to remove a chief executive from office if he is not Constitutionally eligible to hold the office. The precedent was set in North Dakota. Gov Moodie was sworn in and soon after it became known that he was not Constitutionally eligible. The Supreme Court ruled he was ineligible and Moodie was removed from office. It could happen with Obama in 2011.
Something tells me that in this day and age it would have happened long ago - its been 2 years already. So it's just a pipe dream thought up by people who don't like the current administration.
Here's a thought though, concentrate on solving real problems and leave the conspiracy theories to the maroons on the idiot box.
Can all the idiots who still believe that our President is not a citizen of the United States come this way, I have a new plan to make you a millionaire overnight!!!
Ron Cram please go back to the barn and milk a cow
People should never forget that real health depends how well you take care of yourself and not what health insurance you carry but I agree health insurance is important for every one. Search "Wise Health Insurance" online for dollar a day insurance plans.
GOP reiterates to invest in America is to dig a ditch of debt for our children, however, it is exactly the opposite -- to invest in America, is to invest in our children's and grandchildren's future and in ourselves. Not to do so, is to invite decay and then death. Even nature renews itself each year. America must renew herself or die. It is ironic, that Americans spend millions of dollars a year on face lifts, tummy tucks, liposuction to keep their infrastructure looking new and youthful and yet some who spend millions on themsleves for renewal want to spend nothing on keeping America youthful and in tip-top shape. I am sure these same people are spending millions on renewing their homes, their vacation homes and would never allow their homes to get in such a delapilated condition as the United States is in right now, which in reality is "our home."
What happened to our pioneering spirit, it has been stifiled by the nay sayers. We need heros and courageous people to step up and speak out against those who only want to benefit themselves and let everything and everyone else go to the dogs. America is too important for that. Our childlrens' future is too important for that.
It is so sad that lawmakers will not allow the building up of America yet lawmakers through guns allow the destroying of America.
Santorum/Bachmann 2012. HA,HA,HA
Santorum loses his own State by 19 pts - seems logical he could convince the entire nation to vote for him....lmao
i think dand savage know "santorum" best...google it
No, I think actually we should elect Rick.... right now PA has the honor of having the worst President (and the only one from PA) James Buchanan... then we could have the two worst... Buchanan and Rick....
