State of the Union: A look back

As we wrote earlier today in First Thoughts, President Obama is likely to revisit several themes that he discussed in his first State of the Union address, like the economy and political civility.

We put together a montage of some major themes - and seminal moments - of previous State of the Union addresses.

Popcorn please. I'll pass on the booze for now. If were to drink it would be for each time a gop/tea bagger gives a dirty look to the Prez.

Right now I'm LMAO at how Bush got through his speech with giggling.

I bet when Bush looks back at his previous speeches he's rolling his @$$ on the floor laughing out loud thinking about how he managed to pull off the Big Lie without cracking up.

Thanks FR for the refresher. Seeing the contrast between Presidents Clinton and Bush, and Obama and Bush made me remember why sometimes, watching President Bush was painful. He gave nice speeches if you were just listening but watching was akin to watching someone sucking on a lemon, no disrespect intended. His speeches were well written, nicely delivered even if I disagreed with some his policies but his face was always puckered up.

Jody: it always looked to me like they made an effort to teach Bush the speeches four words at a time.

It's what FR is all about, left vs right discussion. Apparently you missed the nasty stuff coming from the right yesterday, or doesn't that count. You don't have to stop by.

Nasty stuff coming from the right yesterday? What about today? I think what you said to dangerfield was unnecessary.

dangerfield, I really do miss your debates!

See, there you go again thetotas: Still waiting for you to have a substantive post, and not one that is just taking verbal shots at people you don't agree with. You are not in Jody's league, and until you are, you may want to hold comments like that.

Rush has a drinking game -

If you want to do a drinking game for the State of the Union show tomorrow night I have two words and you will be plastered inside the first 20 minutes: "Investments" and "civility." If you consume a shot of quality adult beverage every time you hear Obama talk about investments or civility, ladies and gentlemen, you'll be unable to pay attention to that thing.

You really think that ANYONE should emulate Limbaugh... a man that is crude beyond belief?

I agree thetotas, plenty do. Which is a measure of IQ for this nation. How sad is it that people are unable to recognize the rantings of Limbaugh for what they are? A very sick, vindictive human being.

Sorry that you feel that way, I really am.

But how can you generalize like that? You listen to Limbaugh you must be stupid. How is it that you can see through him, and everyone else cant? No disrespect, but you sound a little condescending

To be honest, I dont listen to him or Beck they give me a headache. I do watch O' Reilly and once I actually watch Rachel but had enough of her in 5 minutes. She reminds me of Limbaugh, they both are to extreme for me.

Just because we may differ in our views doesn't make it OK to question someones IQ. Not everyone is blessed with the education or skills to have a honest debate, but would like to without getting attacked. Intimate them into silence. Now that is sad.

"I don't listen to Limbaugh" yes you do thetotas. It is clear. I question the IQ of ANYONE who listens to the 3 stooges. Now, do be a good girl and re read your last paragraph, do a self analysis and figure out why I am laughing so hard. Try your hardest to write a substantive post, otherwise, quit wasting our time.
