Court: Rahm not qualified to run for mayor

Rahm Emanuel (D), a former White House chief of staff

Rahm Emanuel might not qualify to run for mayor after all.

NBC Chicago reports:

Rahm Emanuel's residency fight just took a turn for the worse. The Illinois Appellate Court ruled 2-1 to overturn a Chicago Board of Elections decision to allow Rahm Emanuel on the mayoral ballot. Rahm's Attorney Kevin Forde says "its a surprise."

*** UPDATE *** Here's the court's opinion.

This is clearly a move by a Republican lead Judiciary to keep the favorite and virtual shoe-in out of the race. I have a home in Illinois and Georgia and divide the time. Mayor Daley has a home in Michigan. These people never cease to amaze me. From Illinois to Washington... the Republicans are all pigs.

So, sad! He at least has a vision for Chicago, now let's see what the other candidates come up with beside mud! Hope the Supreme Court straightens this out. Still wonder who is behind all this and afraid of Rahm to run?

Unfortunately, the Illinois Supreme Court is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Chicago machine so it's a near certainty that they'll put him back on the ballot.

Wow - there's at least one truthful lawyer in the country. I'm sure he was "surprised". Otherwise the carpetbagger wouldn't have quit the cabinet to try and become Mayor.

Still alot of hate in republican views, to bad we just can't move on. The court will have its say. Then the appeal and then another. To bad our court system is just as corrupt as the politicians who run for office. If judges are not elected they are appointed by politicians. Really the same thing. If your run you are a politician. The politics that took over in Iraq, really showed us the corrupt side of American Politics.

Wonder when his good friend in the Oval office will step in to help. O can not let his buddies fail. To do so would say something badly of himself.

Obama HAS exported this Chicago style politics to the rest of the country! The White house, Czar's and Czarina's, is all about Chicago thug politics.  IT is this style of politics that is inflaming the rhetoric and angst in this country, NOT AM radio, the culprit is in the White House, and Rahm was very much a leader! Good Riddance.

Thank God. Now maybe he can run for President. He would certainly be a damn site better than the spineless puppet man ever dreamed of being. Could be bad news for Obozo considering he doesn't have Ted Kennedy to lie for him anymore....

DNC would be smart to drop Obama and put their money on Rahm..... He certainly couldn't do any worse and I doubt he would fly all over the world apologizing and catering to the world. He certainly would wear the pants better than Michelle and her wife Barry...

The decision seems quite suspect....Emanual continued to own property in Chicago, hold a driver's license with the Chicago address, kept his voter registration at his Chicago address, and paid taxes from that address. I'm betting this gets reversed.

Asked to comment on the ruling, Emanuel stated, "those (bleep) sons of (bleep) just (bleep) in their own mess kits. I will (bleep) them over so (bleep)-ing bad they won't know what the (bleep) hit them. (Bleep) 'em all, the (bleep)-ing anti-Semites. The only (bleep)ing reason these bags of (bleep) offered up this (bleep)-ing ruling is because I'm a (bleep)ing Jew. These (bleep) think I'm too (bleep)ing stupid to know what the (bleep) is going on here. Well, get this, you (bleep)ing (bleep) (bleep) (bleep)-bags. I know where you (bleep)ing live. Vito and Carmine will pay you a (bleep)ing visit and shove this (bleep)ing ruling up your (bleep)ing (bleep).

Rahm is not known for sophisticated commentary. He and Cheney both require sewer permits to speak.

It's called Karma.  He was a dooshbag to his staff and now it's coming back to bite him.  Plus he was a terrible Chief of Staff for Obama who talked Obama into doing stupid crap (like not endorsing the Public Option).

Well, to be fair, Illinois and Chicago are allowed to have different laws than New York.

No, as we find out today, Illinois is not as liberal or corrupt as New York.

If its true that Rahm going back to Chicago was a inside deal that was signed off by Daley and Obama, then why didn't the Illinois Appellate Court get that memo. all this corrupt talk in Illinois is garbage, just ask the Illinois Appellate Court.

Maybe they could dig up Richard Daley and run him. He could probably do as good a job as Rahmbo.

After reading the court's full opinion, I have to agree with the dissenting judge. The burden of proof falls to the plantiffs to show he abandoned (or intended to abandon) his Chicago residence. There's clearly no evidence that was the case, and in fact there is ample evidence to the contrary. This will be overturned, but probably not in time for the election. Those plantiffs sure were some sore losers - lost at the Election Board, lost at the county court, but finally kept appealing until they found someone to agree with them. I'm sure they think the whole thing should be put to rest for the good of Chicago's citizens - now that they've won. Ha! What a country!
